3. Meditation · Lisbon
Under the inspiration of poplar trees
I understood the meditation process as a se-
quence of steps through a journey. The project
is located in the Tagus River Delta, an isolated
area.
My intervention consists of creating an artificial
forest with an empty space in the centre where
the meditation place will be located, generating
in this way a tension between this space and
the canal-path. This path will be an exception in
the geometrical forest and will lead to the medi-
tation space in a natural way.
Walking through the path you will arrive at
a massive clearing, the entrance hall of the
meditation space. This empty area represents
a plaza made by four vegetal façades. The
ground is composed of the river stones [seixos],
with a milky colour and rounded by erosion.
This specific ground has been also placed in the
meditation space to break the limit between it
and the entrance hall.
The meditation space is an extension of
the entrance hall, having a façade comple-
tely open to the outside, softening the line
between both spaces [inside - outside].
The light breaks the concrete solid from the top
to the bottom escaping to the emptiness of the
hall.

4. Renovation and expansion of St. Cecilio’s Hospital · Granada
In this project, I was required to renova-
te and expand an area of St. Cecilio Hospital,
located next to Granada’s bull ring (Spain). The
program of this part of the complex will chan-
ge, turning it into orthopaedic and neurological
paediatric services. The main areas to focus
on were the doctor’s offices and meeting areas
and the different surgeries.
The main points of the project appeared after
the urban analysis and they were the perimeter
wall of the hospital and the image the hospital
projects to the neighbourhood.
Urban scale intentions:
I will provide the building with a new facade
to the Doctor Oloriz Avenue, removing the wall
and building an expansion for the main building
which will contain the doctor’s programme.
This new facade will break with the aspect of
the old building providing the new access with
flexibility and contemporaneity.
Architectonical scale intentions:
The building will have two cores: the expansion
area (located on the left side of the building)
containing the doctor’s use (meeting rooms,
toilets, changing rooms, resting rooms...) and
the central zone where the receptions, waiting
rooms (for adults and children), playrooms,
stairs and lifts are.

6. Culture + Industrial Space: breaking the limit between two neighbourhoods · Granada
The requirement of this project was to
design a new complex for the Library of the
Autonomous region of Andalusia in Grana-
da. The proposed plot had some old buildings
such as a large train storage and the first tra-
in station building in the city, as well as some
small non-outstanding buildings. It has also had
a very strong impact on the development of
the surrounding neighbourhoods, so it was ne-
cessary to reconsider the connection between
those as well.
With the urban analysis some current problems
were detected: two disconnected neighbour-
hoods and a lack of public infrastructure and
spaces. Keeping the projected urban changes
of the area in mind and the opportunities and
characteristics of every part of the plot, the idea
for the project presented itself.
· What to do?
To facilitate permeability through the plot, creat-
ing public spaces with different characteristics
related to the proposed uses, and a strong cul-
tural character.
· How to do it?
- Demolition: the existent elements in poor con-
dition or without any architectural interest.
- Adaptation: the buildings preserved for new
use (library).
- Expansion: two new volumes appear to hold
the rest of the programme (book stack and cul-
tural centre)
- Colonisation: the three volumes colonise the
public space generating areas with several
characteristics.

7. Culture + Industrial Space: breaking the limit between two neighbourhoods · Granada
Following the industrial aesthetic that
involves the project, the two new buildings
arise from the idea of the central one, which I
kept from the original use of the plot. Each one
is designed in a different form sharing the same
root.
The constructive solution adopted to develop
one of the buildings is related to the industrial
style again. The chosen structure solution was
metallic with lattice beams to resolve the roof.
The façade is ventilated with KRION panels
hold by a metallic sub-structure to a brick wall.
The foundations were made by separated
footings linked by reinforced concrete beams.
