2. Introduction
As a senior director at government relations firm
Duane Morris Government Strategies, Martin Milita
has achieved success in the areas of finance and
public affairs. Martin Milita also supports the
nonprofit organization Civil War Trust.
Founded in 1987, the Civil War Trust aims to
preserve historic US battlegrounds, primarily those
from the American Civil War. To spread awareness of
the Civil War and its enduring legacy, the Civil War
Trust hosts annual essay and postcard contests for
students in upper elementary, middle, and high
school.
3. Civil War Trust
Every year, the organization introduces an original
Civil War-related theme; this year’s topic was Post-
1865: Effects of the War. Essays were required to
analyze the consequences of the Civil War and
elaborate on the importance of preservation,
whereas original postcard illustrations were expected
to depict creative interpretations of post-Civil War
circumstances.
First-place winners of the junior and senior divisions
will receive $1,000, while second- and third-place
winners will receive $750 and $250, respectively.
