2. Challenging Prejudice & Building Tolerance
One of the problem in this world is how people think
negatively and act to something without any basis or
appropriate information.
This attitude inflicts uttering of negative opinions and
doing negative acts towards a person. Thus it starts a
conflict and worse violence to others.

So it is important that before you think of negative
thoughts to person see to it that you have basis because
peace starts with you. It starts on how you think and it
affects on how you act.

According to Gordon Allport, humans have propensity
toward prejudice because of their generalizations and
categories they experience in this world.
5. What is Prejudice?
Is the negative feeling or attitude towards a person or a
group even if it lacks basis

6. What is Stereotype?
It refers to the negative opinion about a person or group
based on incomplete knowledge.

7. What is Discrimination?
It refers to negative actions toward members of specific
social group that may be manifested in avoidance, aversion
or violence

8. Relationship of Prejudice, Stereotype
and Discrimination
If you are stereotyping a person it means that you have
prejudice on that person and soon you will discriminate
that person depending on the degree of your prejudice.
9. People are being unkind toward those who differ from
them in terms of skin color and other physical attributes,
ethnicity, religion, sex, gender or socio-economic class.
We made “Differences” an excuse for prejudice and
exclusion.
10. the main focus of Peace theme 2 is to build tolerance and
respect for the diversity and for other people for us to
avoid violence and to promote peace

it is the belief that one’s own
cultural or racial heritage is
innately superior to that others,
hence, the lack of respect or
appreciation for those who
belong to a “different race”
13. Sexism
it is a system of attitudes, actions and structures that
subordinates others on the basis of their sex where the
usual victims are women.
14. Heterosexism
It is a negative attitude toward lesbians and gay men

It is negative attitudes which members of dominant
language groups hold against non-dominant language
groups
17. Ageism
It is a negative attitudes held against the young or elderly
18. Lookism
Prejudice against those who do not measure up to
standards of beauty.
The usual victims are overweight, undersized, and dark
skinned
19. Religious Intolerance
It is a prejudice against those who are followers of religions
other than one’s own
20. Education for Tolerance and Respect
One effective way to challenge a prejudice is by teaching
tolerance and respect.
Tolerance is not tolerating what is unjust but it is
respecting, accepting and appreciating the rich diversity of
cultures and various forms of human expression
21. Why teach tolerance?
They see education as effective way in teaching tolerance
and respect
Tolerance is embracing and understanding other person’s
differences to avoid prejudice, stereotyping and
discrimination
22. Teach them how to understand and to respect in order for
them to tolerate other people’s difference
Let them be aware of their rights for them to be
responsible in not violating others rights
23. Prejudice is more often occurred in school setting wherein
students discriminate others because of lack of proper
attitude so the role of the teacher is to educate students
the right and proper attitude for them to respect others
and tolerate diversities
