Children 
1st stage: Birth-12 Months
During this period, the child’s
development is very rapid and they
gain control of their muscles.
 They begin to learn from the moment
that they are born by observing the
language
 Sensitive caregiving is crucial because
the child must build emotional
attachment so that they can feel safe.

Babies! 
2nd Stage 1-2 Years of Age
This is the time period where a child begins
to learn self-control; children are
encouraged to learn social and mental skills
by their loved ones
 Children begin to develop their
communication skills
 Children learn a few simple words for
everyday things:
eating, sleeping, pooping, etc.
 With encouragement and interaction their
communication skills grow and vocabulary
expands rapidly

3rd Stage: 2-3 Years of Age
Children in this phase are extremely
energetic and need careful support;
they need active times
 Interacting with other children is also
important so that they can understand
others thoughts and feelings.
 Children are learning how to deal with
their frustration
 Problem solving toys will enhance
their critical thinking

Toddlers! 
4th Stage 3-4 Years of Age
Children enjoy looking at books and
making marks using a variety of
materials
 Self-help and independence is
encouraged because they will learn
how to eat, dress, and use the
restroom by themselves
 They begin to develop physical skills
which means that they can now walk
normally, climb, and run.
 You must teach the child dangers and

6th Stage: 4-5 Years of Age
Children are more interested in
playing games such as make-believe
and construction
 Children are also very enthusiastic
about helping adults with tasks
 At this age children are becoming
more aware of their place in a
community
 Their language is now more complex
as they adapt to use longer sentences

6th Stage: 5-6 Years of Age
Children are now more aware of their
identity
 They recognize the importance of
social rules and customs
 Learn how to play in a group of
children
 Literacy and problem solving skills
continue to develop
 Children developing understanding
cause and effect is encouraged by the
media and technology.

