3. Injunctions and Decisions
In their work as therapist,
Bob and Mary Goulding
found that twelve themes
emerged again and again
as the basis for people’s
negative early decisions.
They developed the list of
these twelve injunctions.
4. Injunctions and Decisions
Each injunction has its
corresponding permission.
Traditionally in script
analysis, injunctions are
written beginning with the
word “Don’t …..” and
permissions with the
phrase “ It is OK to…”
5. Injunctions and Decisions
Notice that Don’t and Its
OK to are not simple
opposites. Don’t conveys a
blanket prohibition, a
command not to do
something. But it is OK to is
not a command to do
something. Instead, it
invites the receiver of the
message to choose
whether to do something
or not to do it.
