Criteria Reflection 2
By: Manoli Yammine
Introduction
The purpose of our opening sequence was to attract young
age men from the ages of around 15 to 30, this is due to the
fact that our opening sequence is a action based film which is
mainly attractive to young boys who like adventures and
action. Most of our audience would be people who like sports,
out doors, fighting and action related maters, this is due to
the fact that when a person goes to watch an action film the
expect to see people fighting or shooting at each other and
the audience always expects a strange plot twist, we have
find in most of the areas which would help the audience
understand that the movie is an action film we have done this
by putting in a car chasing scene and shown a gang meet up.
Uses & Gratifications
Us as young men like to watch action films ourselves and this is one
of the main reasons behind us making an action film, after we
decided on the genre we did our research and asked ourselves
questions which changed our perspective of what an action film is,
we based the story on how we would like it to come out then we
went around asking people their opinions, we did this by giving out
Servais and asking our friends and pears what their opinion was.
Due to that we had to change up a little bit to attract people who had
different beliefs than us and by doing this it helped us understand
that all though all of us might enjoy action films we might not enjoy
the same way they are produced. To produce the final product we
have now we had to make a few changes within the film and after
we have released it we got a lot of positive feed back about it and
this is due to acutance consideration which was done by the Servais
and verbal feed back we did after our first draft.
Narrative Setup
I believe that my set up for the narrative was done very well, this
is due to the fact that we have hit the four main elements of
producing a film which are mise-en-scene, cinematography,
editing and sound which we have adapted to suit our genre, we
have also used our characters as another way to set a bench
mark for our opening sequence genre. We have used a lot of
props like a suit and computer being used by the protagonist to
help identify him as a smart person and a bunch of gang
members in a setting where the lighting was not so great and the
place looked sketchy to help the audience engage and
understand their roll, by having good people and bad people in
the same opening sequence with a car chase scenes it becomes
easy to identify the genre of our movie which is action.
Technical Elements
The more we research the more we got to know and we established
that the use of sound and mise-en-scene where the most influential
when it came to action movies, based on this we had to find a lot of
proper that was specified for each character to allow the audience to
understand what their room is, We gave the protagonist a suit which
symbolized him as a calm and easy going man while we used
normal clothing, suit case and a office with in a house to symbolize
gang members which had a meet up. We also had sound through
out our opening sequence which was mostly fast pace and this was
a main key to make it interesting especially because it had no dialog,
the use of sound and sound effects help us illustrate how the scene
is for the characters which initially should help the audience
understand the setting and the action happening with in the scene.
Audience Feedback
In our case we had presented a demo film to get audience feed
back and due to that we had a lot of knowledge on what we
needed to fix, due to the audience feed back we changed our
background music and have added more action scenes to help
identify the genre, scenes like the car chase and gang member
meet are very useful to the audience as it helps them understand
what movie genre is trying to be shown. Our final opening
sequence keeps audience on the edge of their chairs and this is
done by not properly allowing them to understand if the protagonist
is good or bad until the end and we have shown a few snap shots
of scenes which would initially be with in the movie this makes
audience curious to find out what happens and eventually watch
the film to be able to find out why the boy had such a bad dream.
Distribution
Previously films where made using a common method and after a
period of screening theatrically this period is followed by 5 month
before their availability on demand services after that they become
available in home video, broad case, liner TV, respectably. regardless
of the decline in dv sales film distributers work their way around
increasing sales which they could generate per title. 2014 way the
year that radius-twc emended the traditional way when it released no
piercer on video on demand which was three weeks pre its theatrical
release. On the scope of being a full length
future film my main goal is to increase popularity would not have the
idea of dvd imbedded with in it, this is due to it not being a recent
platform for my target audience; DVDs came around during a older
time frame which included a demographic of older age which doesn't
correlate with my younger target audience.
