Creative Critical Reflection
“ALONE”

2. 1. How do your products use or
challenge conventions and how do they
represent social groups or issues?
• My media product, Short Film, uses and
challenges conventions of real media products
through the use of variety of shots, editing,
characters, and music.
• I wanted to create a thriller film but I ended it
with a little drama where the 21 year old girl
living alone in her flat gets into finding a
creepy little boy eating her food everyday
whenever she’s out and finds him in a store
room.
3. • In my AS work, I didn’t challenge the
conventions enough. I shooted my movie
opening in light although it was a horror
genre. I used conventions where i added
credits in Red font color and the sound effects
were creating horror feeling. So I mostly used
the conventions rather challenging it.
• In my A2 product which is a short film, I used
the conventions like I shooted it in low key
light to create a thriller feeling.
4. • My A2 product represents a social issue that a
young girl is living alone in her flat and a
stranger little boy is following her and is living
in her flat for 5 years. The girl is unaware of it
but slowly she finds the little boy in her store
room. This represents that strange things
happen with a girl only and she is weak to
handle such incidents in her life.
5. 2. How do the elements of your
production work together to create a
sense of ‘branding’?
• The process involved in creating a unique
name and image for a product in the
consumers mind, mainly through advertising
with a consistent theme.
• I used the poster on my website showing the
little boy on the background, to make a
branding of it.
• I also used the similar font style and color of
the name of my film ‘ALONE’ in three
elements VIDEO, POSTCARD and WEBPAGE.
6. 3. How do your products engage with the
audience and how would they be
distributed as real media products?
• Both of my products target audience is
teenage audience. The reason for this is that
teenage audience easily get attracted to
horror and drama genre films so my AS
product(Horror movie opening) and A2
product(Short film) will definitely be attractive
to this type of audience.
• The audience can relate my Short film with
their lives as such incidents happen in real life
as well.
7. • I would like my products to be distributed by
Universal Studios as it is a big industry and my
audience will be attracted by this name.
Viewership of my products will also increase
and will be profitable.
• Another way I would like my A2 short film to
be distributed in DVDs in local shops only if it
gets high rating.
8. 4. How did you integrate technologies-
software, hardware and online- in this
project?
• SOFTWARE:
• For editing I used Windows Movie Maker.
• For poster of my film, I used Microsoft
Publisher.
• For Webpage, I used Wix.com.
• For background music or sound effects, I used
Soundbible.com
9.
10. • HARDWARE:
• Camera- Nikon D32OO
• Laptop for saving, editing and uploading.
• Tripod
11. • ONLINE:
• For creating the Website to distribute my film I
used Wix.com
• To upload all of my work from AS to A2 I used
my blog on Tumblr and Vimeo.com for videos.
12. POSTER ANALYSIS
Name of the
film
Picture of the boy in
the film who is the
main character
His expressions
may create
some sort of
thrill feeling
when the
viewers see the
poster
The positioning of the
cast name on the
poster looks great.
However, the font
looks too basic, like
Calibri. The poster
needs to use different
font according to the
tone of the film
The background
color is a bit
according to the
genre of film. The
black color and
the darkness in
the picture will
create thrill and
drama feeling.
