This assignment is designed to increase the participant's knowledge and skill in proper machine
safeguarding techniques and to highlight the benefits of guarding various types of machinery. It
is the employer's responsibility to identify and select the safeguard necessary to protect
employees and others in the work area as well as provide appropriate training in safe work
practices. Knowing when and how to properly safeguard machinery can reduce or eliminate the
potential for accidents and injuries.
Machine: Any mechanical or electrical device that transmits or modifies energy to perform any
type of work.
Historically, a machine required to have moving parts to be classified as a machine.
Nowadays, electronics technology has led to the development of devices without moving
parts that are often referred as machines.
Classification by working principle:
1. Mechanical components (bolts, nuts, shafts, gears, clutches, bearings etc.)
2. Non-mechanical components (electrical, optical, electronical etc.)
3. Combined components (sensors, engines, converters etc.)
Machinery:
Machinery is defined as a mechanical device or the parts that keep something working. An
example of machinery is a car's engine. An example of machinery are the people who work for a
political party; the machinery of the Republican Party.
A group of devices with moving parts that are used to perform specific jobs.

Drying Machine:
Introduction:
Vegetable drying oven adopts circulating hot air to dry vegetables. The dryer is equipped with
low noise, high temperature resistant axial flow fan and automatic temperature control system.
The whole circulation system is fully closed, most hot air circulates in the oven, having high
thermal efficiency and saving energy. The vegetable drying machine is suitable for drying

Working Principle of Hot Air Drying Oven:
Hot air circulating oven adopts steam or electricity as heat source, and axial flow fan to circulate air. After
heated by the radiator or electric heater, the hot air delivered by the circulating fan enters into the drying
room through the air duct, and transfers heat to the materials. Fresh air is replenished through the air inlet
while wet air is discharged through the air outlet. By the constant replenishing of fresh air and discharging
of wet air, the proper relative humidity in the drying oven is maintained.

Frying Machine:
Introduction:

Cutting Machine:
Introduction:
Cutting machine can cut potato and other root vegetables and fruits into slices, crinkled slice,
strips and shreds, the thickness can be adjusted by increasing or decreasing spacers, having wide
applications and multiple functions. It is a necessary machine for potato chips and french fries
production, and an ideal choice for fruits and vegetables processing.

Working principle of Cutting Machine:
Before operating the potato slicer machine, decide whether to cut slices or strips. If you need
slices, take out the strip-cutting knife box and fix the spare board to where the strip-cutting knife
was. Turn on the power switch and put the clean and peeled potatoes consecutively into the feed
inlet. Then the potato slices will come out from the outlet of the potato slicing machine. During
cutting, add a little water into the outlet of the slicer machine, you will get better end products.

Ice cream mix is aged at 40F (5C) for at least 4 hours or overnight. Aging the mix cools it down
before freezing, allows the milk fat to partially crystallize and the gives the proteins stabilizers
time to hydrate. This improves the whipping properties of the mix.
