1. Tradition and lineage keeps continuity of one
core philosophy from one generation to the
next generation
2. The masters always guided and taught
depending on the level of contemporary
society, without deviating from fundamentals
3. But practices were different – combination of
the same practices – Asana, contemplation on
the principles and purpose of life

Dattatreya – Lord of Yoga
•His book, Dattatreya Yoga-Shastra explains the
eight limbs of Yoga for the first time, much before,
Patanjali. There are more than 10 different
traditions started from the Dattatreya in India.
•But none of them claimed or created a style of
Yoga after his name.
•Many scholars believe that, Patanjali was one of
his foremost disciple.

The ancient lineage confirms to Authentic Yoga Tradition.
There are many schools of Yoga – Raja-Yoga, Tantra-Yoga,
Karma-Yoga, Bhakti-Yoga, Jnana-Yoga and more. We find

Schools and styles of yoga – discussion-3
Many a times, the groups of practices contradict one
another, but leading to the same goal.
There cannot be one way to control both emotions and
thoughts.
For example, Raja-Yoga aims at controlling the thoughts,
the practice is different and Bhakti-Yoga aims at emotional
integration, the controlling the thoughts is considered as
secondary practice

Schools and styles of yoga – discussion-4
Patanjali Yoga sutra is also known as Raja Yoga, a school
of Yoga confirms to the same goal as laid down by ancient
masters.
A part of teaching from Patanjali Yoga-Sutra, may not be
considered as lineage.
The style of Yoga has no reference in Authentic Yoga
Tradition.
Any lineage takes at least 5-10 generations of teachings
and learnings.
