Muslim Contributions Dbq Essay
From around 750 to 1350, Muslims were able to contribute in the making of how our world. It started when the Muslims inherited, adopted, and made
advancements through people they have conquered, Greece, Rome, and India. Their advancement allowed Muslim achievements to stand out and
make a lasting impact on world cultures; their contributions affected various areas including art, architecture, medicine, agriculture, music, language,
and technology. The Muslims were able to make such great contributions because of their preserved knowledge, their civilization, and their ability of
simplification. These contributions impacted the world by helping medicine advance, building a trade network, and the growth of mapmaking.
Muslims both preserved existing knowledge and extended it, which allowed Muslims to make their great contributions. Muslims had many practical
reasons for learning, including, the advancement of science, qualified physicians to treat illness, and mathematicians and astronomers to calculate time.
"Muslims had practical reasons for supporting the advancement of science. Rulers wanted qualified physicians treating their ills...relied on
mathematicians and astronomers to calculate the times of prayer..." (Doc. 1) Around A.D. 476,Europe entered an era where scholarship suffered, ...

According to document 4, Al–Khwarizmi, a Muslim mathematician wrote a textbook in the 800's about algebra which was later adopted throughout
Europe. Muslim mathematicians also adopted Arabic numerals from Indians and used them in place–value system. (Doc. 4) These mathematical
advances also led to the creation of simple yet complicated structures. Also, after using their observations and their understanding of mathematics,
Muslim scholars were able to make an advancement in mapmaking. They used astrolabe and armillary sphere to help study skies and make calculations
for calendars and maps. (Doc.

Analysis Of 'The Moon Is A Lighthouse : Revisited'
"The Moon is a Lighthouse: Revisited" is a short story that relies heavily on symbolism and imagery and intentionally makes elements of itself
vague enough to be interpreted in a variety of ways. The primary story is quite simple on the surface is quite simple. A mother tells her sons to
bring her a river. They move the bed towards the river face a window. It is raining, and the brothers decide that the rain is good for making mud. The
moon is not visible from the window however. Then, despite the boys asking her to do so, the mother can not see the river because she is on her back.
The mother then compares the river to the sky, the stars to the eyes of fish, and the moon to a light house.
The first time I read "The Moon is a Lighthouse: Revisited," I had no idea what was happening. I lingered on the portion in the beginning where the
mother said "Bring me your river" because I was utterly confused. At first, I thought it was a random interjection that had no relation to the
surrounding text, but I quickly realized that the piece of text was just dialogue without quotes around it. My first reading was centered around trying
to understand what the piece literally means. My first reading gave me the sense that I was watching a Stanley Kubrick film like 2001: A Space
Odyssey, rather than reading a short story because of how experimental it was. Literature is an old art form, so I thought that there were only so many
things a person can do to push boundaries, but I was clearly

mysterious lights pass overhead while its citizens pretend to sleep." (Second Cover). Welcome to Night Vale was co

Jeffrey Cranor. It is set in a town that is exactly like any other town, and at the same time unlike any other town, with quirky neighbours, local radio
and community culture. In the novel two characters; Jackie Fierro and Diana Crayton make their way across Night Vale, their home town in hopes of

The Diner is described as a typical small town diner with neon lighting, subpar food, and outdated dГ©cor. The outside of the building is a mint green

All Summer Is A Day By Ray Bradbury
Many centuries after the first spaceship landed on the moon, a group of brave rocket men and women did the unbelievable. The short story "All
summer is a day", by Ray Bradbury, takes place in the underground city of the planet Venus where tunnels roamed instead of streets. The land above
them was submerged with endless pouring rain and deadly jungles. The sight of the sun was a rare miracle that only happened once every seven years.
The children spent all their life in the enclosed underground tunnels, well all except for one. Margot was the only child who came to Venus when she
was four, and the biggest difference was that she still remembered the times when the glowing sun gave warmth and hope.
Thesis Statement (1–3 sentences) – Her past experiences and opportunities caused the children of Venus to be jealous of her. As a result, the children
harassed Margot in disbelief. The gloomy, enclosed environment affects everyone greatly. The message of the story shows how the environment and
the people around you can affect you because of their own lack of experiences. The author portrays this when the children harass the main character,
he also uses craft moves to show isolation of the main character, and how depressed she is as a result. To begin, the author shows that the harassment
Margot goes through is due to the children' lack of knowledge about the sun since they have spent their whole life on Venus. Throughout the day,
Margot brings back memories of the sun.

Personal Narrative-Calum
Calum A small shiver traveled up Calum's spine as the wind brushed against his skin. It was a welcoming chill; the kind you can only feel from the
air on a Spring morning. A cold that contrasted the heat of his body, but did not overtake it. Calum liked the feeling of breathing in the morning air,
but that pleasure was taken from his lungs when his fingers met his lips. Instead of the sweet fresh air, he was breathing in death, wondering when it
would come. Smoking was calming to him. When the entirety of his focus was on that one cigarette, everything else escaped his mind, and for a few
minutes the only pain he felt was the dull burn of the cigarette. His whole body was numb. The world around him was nothing but a void, and then

La Luna Short Story
La Luna
He stares at the beautiful night sky as his father and Nonno takes him to the quiet sea. They took a small wooden boat which can fit three people in.
The wooden boat swishes through the middle of the calm dark water as Bambino's father rows gently. He parked the wooden boat properly.
The three watched the sky as the beautiful and bright moon rises up high onto the horizon. Bambino's father pulls up a tall ladder from the inside of
the bottom of the boat and lets it reach near closely to the moon. He and Nonno tells Bambino to climb up. Bambino hesitantly wraps himself with the
metal anchor tied with a rope and slowly went up. As he was on the edge of the ladder, he started to lose his balance and has the urge to panic.
He levitated towards the moon with his eyes squinting closed. With one eye open, he tries to carefully land on the moon while looking at his two
feet. After Bambino had landed, he slowly lifted his face up and there he saw were millions of shining little stars. His jaw dropped and his eyes
sparkle with joy and happiness the first time he saw them. While his father and Nonno climb up, a light came swiftly towards the moon and made a
"clink clink" sound.
It sounded like glass dropped. Bambino walks cautiously to it and it was a twinkling golden star. He crouches down to his knees to the twinkling
golden star and looks at it when it was still shining. It made a sharp "shing" sound when he gently taps it with his finger. When Bambino tries to grab the

Modern World Of The Islamic And Arabic World : A Bit Of A...
Centuries of colonialism, Eurocentrism, and global policing has given the European world, particularly the Anglosphere, a bit of a hero–complex.
There is an all too common way of thinking that, within the past couple of decades or so, European and American political, cultural, and military forces
have just begun a cultural infiltration of the previously isolated and primitive Middle East. It is believed by many that western entities are modernizing
the Middle East. The veracity, utility, and morality of such actions will not be discussed here. What will be discussed is that the inverse of that
assumption is true: it is as a result of centuries of progress in the Islamic and Arabic world that modern global society as a whole exists today. It is
common knowledge that it is the European Renaissance to which we owe our modern understanding of science, mathematics, and medicine, as well as
the technology that makes our lives possible today. This "rebirth", so to speak, was inspired by a multitude a factors, but a key catalyst was the
reintroduction and study of classical Greek texts. As such, there is a common cut–and–dry view of the history of knowledge as having sprung from
Hellenic Greece, having laid dormant after the fall of Rome, and suddenly reemerging in Europe in the fourteenth century (Van Ness Meyers). There are
many problems with this mode of thinking (the first being that western thought did not spontaneously arise in Greece, but may have originated in

Hipparchus's work and his catalogue after he was dead. He gather another 37 in the end the total was 1080 stars. Hipparchus was credited with
dividing a circle into 360 degrees. This was 1st used in trigonometry but later on used in other mathematical formulas and equations. Hipparchus had
referred to Timocharis, who was and astronomer who lived 150 years before him. Hipparchus appears on many Roman coins from five different
emperors reigns in 138 AD and 253 AD.
Hipparchus has made three contributions to astronomy. Hipparchus was the 1st Greek to create a quantitative and an accurate model for the motion of
the Sun and Moon. Another contribution he made is more towards mathematical contribution. Hipparchus possessed a trigonometric table and he likely
solved problems of spherical trigonometry. The last contribution is he made a reliable method of predicting solar eclipses, and the compilation of the
first comprehensive star catalog. Hipparchus has many others work but sadly they are now lost. These included an astronomical and astrological
writings and a catalogue of his own works.
In summary, Hipparchus was a Greek astronomer who gave three things to astronomy and the mathematical world. He kept a catalogue of all the stars
he had observed over time. After Hipparchus

Summary Of All Summer In A Day
"All Summer In A Day" by Ray Bradbury is a short story about a girl named Margot and her experiences on the planet Venus. Margot moved to Venus
from Earth when she was 4 years old, old enough to remember the sun. On Venus, the sun only comes out every 7 years for a couple hours, other than
this, it's always raining. The other children on this planet bullied Margot, they were mean to her because she could remember the sun, and they didn't.
One lesson the story suggests is that when you don't think about your actions, it can lead to regret and guilt.
Throughout the story, the children were jealous of Margot and bullied her. Bradbury says, "They surged about her, caught her up and bore her,
protesting, and then pleading, and then crying, back into a tunnel, a room, a closet, where they slammed and locked the door. They stood looking at
the door and saw it tremble from her beating and throwing herself against it. They heard her muffled cries. Then, smiling, they turned and went out and
back down the tunnel, just as the teacher arrived." This paragraph illustrates how mean the children were to Margot and how they acted so quickly
without really thinking about what they were doing. When the children did this they acted out of jealousy and hurt Margot, without even knowing it.
This is a reason why you should always think before you say or do something; sometimes we can get wrapped up in our own jealousy and hurt someone.
After the the children hurt Margot they felt terrible and guilty. In the story it states "They stood as if someone had driven them like so many stakes,
into the floor. They looked at each other and then looked away...They could not meet each other's glances. Their faces were solemn and pale." These
couple short sentences tell us how the children looked after they remembered Margot, by knowing this, we know how they felt. Before, all of the
children teamed up and shoved her in a closet, then the sun came out and they had a great time playing outside together. After 2 hours the sun was gone
again and the children finally remember about Margot, when this happened each of them felt tremendously guilty. This a a reason why you should
always be kind to others, because no matter what you will hurt them and

Summary OfAll Summer In A Day By Ray Bradbury
In the story, "All Summer in a Day," Ray Bradbury draws us in, as readers, with a story that takes place on the planet Venus. The environment of
Venus is as described in this quote, "It had been raining for seven years; thousands upon thousands of days compounded and filled from one end to
the other with rain, with the gush and gush of water...fall of showers and the concussion of storms so heavy they were tidal waves come over the
islands..."(Bradbury, 1954) With an environment like this, what type of people would those on Venus be if they had never felt, saw, or
experienced the sun before? The only one that has experienced and remembers the sun is a young girl, Margot. Margot lived on Earth until she
was four years old, unlike the others who have been living underground in Venus for their entire lives. Because of this, Margot is constantly facing
problems regarding her classmates' jealousy of her past opportunities. Without the sun, she has become, as Bradbury writes, "...a very frail girl
who looked as if she had been lost in the rain for years and the rain had washed out the blue from her eyes and the red from her mouth and the
yellow from her hair. She was an old photograph dusted from an album, whitened away, and if she spoke at all her voice would be a ghost."(1954,
Bradbury) In this short story by Bradbury, the theme is that jealousy and ignorance can blind us from seeing things how they really are. This is
shown time after time when Margot is harassed, depressed, and isolated because of her classmates' jealousy. To begin, a way that Bradbury shows us
that jealousy and ignorance can shield a person from the truth is through the main character, Margot, who is constantly being harassed by her
classmates. The only reason Margot's classmates harass her is because she remembers the sun. This makes her different from all the others, who have
lived here on Venus since birth. In this way, they are uneducated or ignorant because they have never experienced the sun. Because she is different, the
classmates take every chance they have to harass her in any way they can. Right before the sun came out, one of the rare events that Margot was
greatly looking forward to, the classmates "...surged about her, caught her

On that momentous Christmas Eve of 2013, daubs of ashen grays, splattered specks of lapis, careless streaks of pale lavender, and muted, chalky
whites were smeared across the blank canvas sky, barely concealing the cold, distant stars. The sliver of the moon that was shaped as though it were a
narrow, shining claw, was tied to the edge of a low hanging cloud with a thin, wisp of a string. Millions of the beautiful feathery, ice crystals were
brutally thrown toward the Earth, onto the frosted, dead grass, where they joined their companions in a heap of broken, mangled snowflakes. For the

Juxtaposition In Bless Me Ultima
Bright white light of the New Mexico sun bathes and protects the small town of Guadalupe. Like his parents and older brothers before him, young
Antonio struggles to find his true inner self as his parents push two family names on him. In Anaya Rudolfo's novel Bless Me, Ultima, Antonio is
ultimately a mixture between a Marez and a Luna, as seen through the juxtaposition between the symbols of the moon and the sea, as well as God and
the Golden Carp. The moon that represents the Luna family, and sea which connects to the Marez, are forces which push Antonio to make his final
decision about family. In the beginning, Antonio tries his hardest to please both of his parents by combining their dissimilar ideas about his future.
Although Antonio begins his life thinking he is a mixture of both parents' heritage, the juxtaposition of the symbols in the book changes his mind on
that, "It is the blood of the Lunas to be quiet... They are quiet like the moon – And it is the blood of the MГЎrez to be wild, like the ocean from which
they take their name" (Anaya 41). Aside from the obvious fact that the Spanish word for moon is, in fact, Luna, that family represents the moon. The
calmness of said moon contrasts with the wild men of the sea. Maria is controlling of her family, similar to how the moon controls the sea. Each
contrasting idea propels Antonio in separate directions– either towards the Luna priests or the Marez vaqueros. Despite the fact that his mother wants
to make a priest out of Antonio, the other side of his family thinks in their own unique way, "He is a Marez... His forefathers were conquistadors,
men as restless as the seas they sailed" (Anaya 6). Once again, the contrary sides of Antonio's family pull him to the sea instead of the moon. The
true struggle Antonio goes through is choosing his own destiny, even with the strong influences of both the moon and sea. Suddenly he has a moment
of realization and tells his uncle, "'I am Marez,'... 'That is right, you are a Marez first, then Luna" (Anaya 250). Even though he may think he is Marez
first, he still lives with Luna blood coursing through his veins. After all, he skipped a grade, which makes him a boy of learning. Then again, his
adoration of nature proves

Pegasus Research Paper
I have chosen to write about Pegasus as my favorite constellation as it is one of the first I ever learned about and really enjoy the story behind it.
Pegasus is located in the northern sky and is named after the winged horse 'Pegasus' from Greek Mythology. Ptolemy, a 2nd century astronomer listed
Pegasus as one of the 48 constellations of that time and Pegasus remains as one of the 88 constellations today.
Pegasus's creation myth comes from Greek Mythology. Pegasus was a pure white winged stallion horse–god. There are many tales of Pegasus with

First of all, when Via first discovers that her brother, Auggie, removes his Padawan braid as a result of a small remark of a classmate at his new

was a young child, he had an obsession over Star Wars along with his somewhat friend, Christopher, and he continued to have an interest in Star

to not allow anyone to distract his self–confidence. Whenever Via witnesses an ungenerous remark from a passerby, she demonstrates her own

Gender Inequality In Agora
"Synesius, you don't question what you believe, or cannot. I must." – Hypatia The historical film Agora focuses on a lot of points such as, politics,
social status, gender equality, religion and astronomical views. The story revolves around one of the most glorified women in ancient Alexandria, the
mathematician/philosopher/astronomer, Hypatia. She is first seen lecturing to her students about how things on Earth tend to fall down in a straight
path downward. She demonstrates this idea by dropping a handkerchief. Alongside her is the devoted slave, Davus, who seemed to have a special
feeling to his mistress. Two prominent characters are also introduced, namely, Orestes (lover of Hypatia; later became the prefect ofAlexandria) and
Synesius (a faithful Christian; later became the Bishop of Cyrene). The conflict in the movie starts when Pagan believers attack Christians who insult

Women are almost given the same chance as men to show off what they can do and exercise their rights since they were born. But I regret this gender
inequality that happened before. I suddenly think that, what if women have already been given equal chances as men before? I think the world would
go off a better course. Without a doubt, I admit that women are smarter than men. So think of all the possibilities that might happen. With the given
chances today, I still don't know why some women still ask for gender equality.
To end this movie review in Agora, I would like to make it a point that what happened in the history should remain as a history. Though this may lead
to more developments in the future, it is best to live some data forgotten in the past and keep the present rolling to the future. Never let the past dictate
the future. Never let your beliefs be swayed with hearsays. KEEP MOVING

her body became flat. This is illustrated in the excerpt, " 'Oh, it's much better than the sun lamps, isn't it?'"(Bradbury 1954) . This excerpt is exposing
how they prevent depression in the kids. They use special lamps that imitate the sun. They

He laughed, and strolled over to the source of the noise. Several Kikwi had been pinned under a large log they'd been hoisting into place. Link
squatted down and pulled the log up, allowing the small rodent–like creatures to escape. When the Kikwi had offered to help him build a small cabin,
Link accepted their gracious offer. They were hard workers, yet they tended to be a little clumsy at times. "Thanks for the help guys, but I think that'll
be all for today." He said, and the Kikwi scurried off. He meandered into the small living area that had been built, and sat down on one of the few

Examples Of Dark Archetype In Romeo And Juliet
The light vs dark archetype helps to highlight and enhance the conflicts and bring hidden meanings in the play of Romeo and Juliet. In other
words, the light vs dark archetype adds a little spice to the play. As it is possible to see in the lines: "Poor living corse, closed in a dead man's
tomb!"(5.2.30). In this moment of the play, Friar Lawrence, the one saying this line, just discovered that Friar John wasn't able to deliver the letter to
Romeo. The letter with all the explanation of the plan to fake Juliet's death. Now Juliet is going to wake up in the tomb and no one is going to be
there as she risks to suffocate for the lack of oxygen. For this reason, the quote from Friar Lawrence make this scene better. In one sentence it explains

Other words that are being compared, are the words Earth and Heaven that are basically opposite of a spectrum, where Earth represents mortals and
Heaven represents God. Thus, It is clear that the light vs dark is there, and there is a reason why it is in the play. The night of the party, the party
that Capulet was describing as a marvellous event with the best people of the city, is the occasion where Romeo and Juliet meet, fall in love and
kiss for the first time. It is a really crucial evening for the story because is where everything starts. The light vs dark archetype has been used in this
quote to foreshadow the greatness of the party and how it is going to be important for the course of the story. It has been used to enhance the
significance of the night and the conflicts that the party is going to bring. The last example, is in Romeo's line, right after he met, fell in love and
kissed Juliet: "Arise, fair sun, and kill the envious moon"(2.2.4). Before explaining the light vs dark element in this quote, is better analyse the quote
itself to learn the meaning behind it. Romeo compares Juliet, to the sun and its infinite

Use of the Sun and the Moon in Rime of the Ancient...
Both Sun and Moon play significant roles in this old poem, in a symbolic and supernatural way, in order to reinforce the mood that Samuel Taylor
Coleridge has attempted to create in his use of old legends and superstitions. The role that the sun and moon play in this tale of cursed sailors is an
old one, retold over and over the years that Coleridge adapted for his own.
Although mentioned several times before, the Sun makes its first significant appearance in the seventh stanza of the second part. Before then, one will
find both Sun and Moon mentioned many times purely for the reader's enrichment. The repeated mention leads the reader to believe that it will soon
become important by foreshadowing without ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It eventually turns out that those bars of prison are the shadows of Death's dead and dying ship, but does this not allude to the approaching change in
life that the Ancient Mariner suffers? He becomes trapped in life, to wander the earth forever, spreading his story––a prison of freedom, a cell made out
of eternal life. A curse disguised as the world's greatest blessing. He goes further to describe the boat when he says the line, "Are those her ribs
through which the Sun/ Did peer, as through a grate?" This is, on one level, merely continuing the same vein of interpretation as mentioned before, both
veins. But on another level, it describes the weariness of the Ancient Mariner, and the old and eaten–away shape his body has taken on over the
years––his ribs sharp and bony against even the baggy of rags.
Later, it discusses a very old superstition that many may not be familiar with––the legend of the Moon as guardian of the dead, and keeper of the souls
that have passed on. More than once, it is alluded to that the Moon is keeping the sailors' souls safe, and that the Moon is holding them captive where
they lie, as well. Once it even mentions that the Ancient Mariner sees the cold and pale unfeeling light of the moon reflected in the dead men's cold
black unfeeling eyes. Is it a coincidence that the images stirred up are extraordinarily

The Night Before The Moon Essay
Before the swan met the moon, there were only two beautiful things in her life– dancing and her beauty.
She knew the moon was a kind man, with his gentle eyes which turned into small crescents when he smiled, but she would never be quite good enough
for him. Even though she danced and danced and danced, until the snow underneath her feet turned into a river of red, she could only blend with the
moonlight, but the swan was a swan. And a swan could not be the moon.
So she offered herself to the moon, to the moon who must love her so much. She stood there under his gaze in her naked glory, his large hands which
could build worlds, soft against her trembling skin. He tried to push her away, but the swan was nothing but determined.
She could feel his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But what is the point of wishing upon a dying star?
––
The girl who thought she was a swan, she was actually a monster. She was a black hole, she killed the moon.
The moon who used to be loved by the Sun was broken, it lost its light when it finally left the Sun's shadow, there was no more moonlight for the girl to
dance in, and the moon wouldn't dance with her anymore.
Time used to chase her, but now she had all the time in the world, because the world stopped spinning when the Sun stopped loving the moon.
The moon was no longer the moon, he was a thousand pieces of stars consumed by the black hole, and the girl spent what felt like light years trying to
find all the pieces, and she tried to piece the moon back together.
But the girl never managed to get the moon back together quite right, because the hands which used to build, could only break, and the eyes which
used to be so gentle, there was a caged beast inside.
It wasn't okay, it would never be okay. But it was the fault of the girl who thought she was a swan.
She would dance and dance, and let him break her again and again, until she figured out the way for him to love her.
She couldn't leave.
It was all the fault of the girl who wasn't the swan.

Examples Of Conformism In The Stranger
TOPIC #2
THE STRANGER LAP
AP Literature
Nancy Guevara
PERIOD 1
Wolves roam around nature indifferent from its surroundings until a full moon rises above and manipulates it. Triggered by the full moon the wolf lets
out its inner beast and howls. Humans are triggered by many things in nature, like the wolf who is manipulated by the full moon most humans are
manipulated by the bright suns. The sun in the novel The Stranger by Albert Camus is an advisory for the indifference of the protagonist Meursault.
The indifference of Meursault was devastating to the structure of societal conformity making it a habit of ostracizing him throughout the novel and
only when the sun rises the truth is revealed. Since the beginning of the novel it was evident that Meursault was uncertain about the world he lives in,
his attitude showed that he was detached from the world that he didn't even know when his mother died. "Maman died today. Or yesterday maybe, I
don't know." (Camus 3). However, when exposed to the sun, Meursault grew more irritated and indifferent than he already was. It was obvious that
Meursault had trouble with adjusting to the heat and bright lights. As the sun and the heat grew stronger and more overpowering, it became more
manipulative. "But today with the sun bearing down, making the whole landscape shimmer with heat, it was inhuman and oppressive. (Camus 15).
Meursault was walking in the sun when going to bury his mother. All the heat and all the light–bearing off the

The Islamic Culture Mirrors Of The Roman Empire
It is said that the Islamic culture mirrors that of the Roman Empire in terms of expansion and longevity. The now widely practiced faith began in an
area called Arabia, which neither Rome nor Persia dared conquer. From its creation, it contributed several important things to Medieval Europe and the
World as a whole. It conquered a large region and gained thousands of followers.Islam began, as stated, in the desert land of Arabia. Due to the Arabs'
tribal nature, they were skilled at navigation and long–distance trading. They became the guides and couriers of the trade routes going to and from
Africa and Asia. Thus, towns began to form, including the famous pilgrimage site, Mecca. Arabian tribes often worshipped the Black Stone, kept in the
Kaaba, which was located in Mecca. Thus, those that controlled the shrine controlled the entire economic and spiritual life of the region surrounding
Mecca. From this group came Muhammad, who founded Islam and changed the course of the Arabs worship. After experiencing a spiritual epiphany
in, or around, 610, Muhammad made a decision to worship only the most prominent god in Arab faith, Allah. Following this major change in faith,
Muhammad tried to gain a following among the Arab people. This proved unsuccessful at first, so Muhammad and his friends journeyed to the area of
Yathrib, which he renamed Medina and established himself as the ruler. The journey of Muhammad is now know as the Hijrah and is used by Muslims

Spread Of Islam Dbq Essay
Islam is one of the major world religions that quickly proliferated across the world. The spread of Islam started when Prophet Muhammad began to
address the public a new revelation that he received from God in 632 CE. It was later written in the Quran, which is the Islamic sacred text. The
religion united everyone under one rule and appealed to all because there was no hierarchy. It particularly diffused during the Middle Ages, whenIslam
had a great desire in exploring new information, developing extensive trade and creating a powerful military system in the Middle East and North
Africa, which helped the Islamic World dominate politically and religiously.
One of the many ways that Islam extended its empire was through the educational advancement ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the Islamic Empire conquered places, people weren't forced to believe in Allah; they were generally threatened with taxation. The tolerance of
other religions in the places that they conquered shows that Islam was a religion of equality and courtesy. It states, "Believe or else pay tribute
[money]... obey the Lord and His Apostle [Mohammad], and he will defend you... But if you displease them... I will fight against you and take captive
your little ones and slay the elder." (Document 1, Muhammad). However, if they chose to wholeheartedly embrace Islam, the people were given gifts
of payment to illustrate that their faith was acknowledged. "Similarly, stipends were granted to some Persian or Aramean nobles (dihqans) who
cooperated with the Muslims in Iraq. In most cases, it appears that these individuals were required to embrace Islam in order to receive their stipend."
(Document C, The Early Islamic Conquest, Fred Donner). Moreover, Muslims usually went to war or fought when enemies attacked the religion of
Islam. This is known as jihad and it is a way to show devotion to God without the use of instigation. It states, " Koranic revelation commanded them to
"Fight in the cause of God against those who fight you, but do not be the aggressors." The early Muslims thus fought their heathen enemies... war
against unbelievers was sanctioned by divine revelation and the example of the Prophet."

Astronomy Of The Islamic World
Astronomy in Medieval Islam Astronomy is the branch of science that deals with celestial objects, space, and the universe as a whole. During the
medieval era, a golden age of innovations in science took part in the Islamic world. In particular cities in the Iberian Peninsula, like Cordoba,
astronomy blossomed and thrived as an aftermath of the genius and creativity that took place there. Innovations in astronomy were vital in inspiring the
other scientific discoveries, and were greatly encouraged by the religious groups during the time. In the Oxford Encyclopedia of the Islamic World, S.
Nomanul Haq and Massimo Campanini wrote that "astronomy is the only natural science that escaped the censure of the medieval Muslim opponents
of secular sciences (КїulЕ«m al–awДЃКїil) and found a home in mosques, receiving the blessing of mainstream religious circles."1 Because of this
support and encouragement, scientists of astronomy were set up to thrive and innovate. Discoveries during this period made fundamental
advancements on Greek and Mesopotamian astronomy and were crucial for the later advances of Copernicus and Kepler that give the view on
astronomy that is held today. The support of astronomy that garnered during the medieval era had many influences. One influence was religion.

Islam and Science presents an articulate and concise historical introduction to intellectual developments that have shaped Islamic civilization, both
religious and scientific. The work attempts to 'construct a coherent account of the larger religious and cultural background' in which the Islamic
scientific tradition came into existence and to explore the 'vexingly complex' issue of its decline. The main thesis is that scientific traditions 'arose

Chapter ten criticizes 'Islamization of modern science' projects, a new genre of scientific exegesis of the Qur'an, for their 'profanation of the
religious texts,' since the Qur'an cannot be interpreted 'in the light of a knowledge that is always changing.' The last chapter calls for a reconnection
of Islam and science 'through a central nexus which is the unitive function' that was and should constitute the basis of any Islam/science discourse. [4]
Written from an insider's perspective, the work will undoubtedly fuel debates over the nature of the relationship between Islam and science, both the
one that existed in the past and the one that should exist today. The author is not a philosopher, a historian or a sociologist of science, nor a historian
of ideas, but a Muslim chemist and writer who is aware that his tentative conclusions 'might not be shared by certain historians of science' in Islam. A
closer examination of the work may explain why this might be so. [5] A first methodological difficulty the work encounters is rooted in a
conceptual confusion over what constitutes the 'Islamic scientific tradition,' since it includes: Islamic 'religious

Summary OfAll Summer In A Day?
The sun is a big, bright star located at the very center of our solar system. Everything our world, that we know of, needs the sun and its light. In fact,
people get joy just from experiencing the sun's glorious heat. But what if we had to live our life sans the sun, without any light? What if you had to
live your life in constant raining and thunder? In the short story, "All Summer in a Day", a group of scientists had journeyed to the planet Venus, an
ever–raining world, to set up a civilization and continue with their lives. Many of the scientists are raising their offspring. One of the nine–year–old
children is Margot. But instead of being born on Venus, she comes from warm, sunny Ohio; she came when she was four. She is considered different
from the other children of Venus because she has memories of basking in the sunlight, while the others do not. Margot has different memories and
experiences in her life, compared to the children that she is surrounded by, and so they treat her poorly. Ray Bradbury shows this in the text with
isolation, harassment, and oppression.
To illustrate text, Bradbury uses craft moves such as long, descriptive sentences and metaphors, Bradbury writes, "She was an old photograph dusted
from an album, whitened away, and if she spoke at all her voice would be a ghost. Now she stood, separate..."(Bradbury, 1954), to make the reader
understand Margot's depression. Margot is not only mentally, but physically heterogeneous. Because of her differences

Comparing The Sun And The Moon In One Day In The Life Of...
The sun and the moon have long been seen as a dichotomy through various cultures. Day and night, hot and cold; the list can continue with different
interpretations. But, in a Gulag labour camp, where "a convict's thoughts are no freer than he is" (40) – subjected only to the unjust oppression by the
Soviet government – their ideas of what the sun and moon can mean is significantly repressed to ideas of misfortunes that are perpetuated by the camp
and the government. In Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn's novel, One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich, the sun and the moon are symbols of two ideas that
derive from the prisoner's experience in the Gulag camp: incarceration and enlightenment. Although the sun is often thought as empowering, the

The novel explores what life might be like outside of camp on one occasion, when Ivan Denisovich's wife sent him a letter about carpet dyeing.
Despite having an opportunity outside of camp, Denisovich was indifferent because "he lost the habit of scheming how he was going to feed his
family" (44). The guards give prisoners work to do, and that is the prisoner's only purpose in life once they are incarcerated. How the sun represents
incarceration despite the sun's lively connotations, it transcends the confusion that the labour camp and the Soviet government were stirring in the
prisoner's head. Using the moon's symbolism, it leads prisoners and the readers to contemplate on this underlying turmoil. But even though life in
prison is difficult, somehow "life was easier" (44) because Denisovich did not have to bear the burden of his family. He was also questioning if life
"was easier– here or there" (178). This seemingly unquestionable conclusion that a life of liberty outside of camp is much easier than a life of
incarceration inside of camp is being obfuscated by the Soviet government. The prisoners no longer know what they want, and this confusion alludes to
how the Soviet government is wrecking havoc both in the camps and the nation. Solzhenitsyn was trying to convey this idea through One Day in the

All Summer in a Day
Harassment, bullying, isolation and depression are things a nine year old should not be experiencing, but for a little girl living who's living on Venus,
this is exactly what is happening. The short story "All Summer in a Day by Ray Bradbury", takes place on the planet Venus where everyday is like the
next, full of rain. To the residents of Venus, this is normal, unless you just moved here five years ago. This is the case for Margot who has to deal with
the torture of remembering life on Earth. Every seven years, the sun shines on Venus. For just two hour, the rain stops pouring and the sky turns blue.
Margot has been waiting for this day ever since she moved to Venus. Unfortunately, the other students lock her in the closet and she misses the
opportunity to see the sun that she loves and misses so much. A theme throughout the story is that the children of Venus are jealous of Margot because
she is different, this is shown when the author describes Margot, when Margot is in the shower, and when the children lock her in the closet.
One of the reasons that the children of Venus are jealous of Margot is because of her different experiences. The author writes "the biggest crime of
all was that she has come here only five years ago from Earth, and she remembered the sun and the away the sun was and the sky" (Bradbury 1974).
He uses this quote to show the reader the relationship between Margot and her classmates. It shows

Miranda gave the astronaut helmet as a gift to Auggie years ago when Auggie was experiencing life throughout his early years; the astronaut helmet
signifies assistance and friendship to Auggie. When Auggie was given the astronaut helmet, Miranda was aware that the many pedestrians on the street

  • 1. Muslim Contributions Dbq Essay From around 750 to 1350, Muslims were able to contribute in the making of how our world. It started when the Muslims inherited, adopted, and made advancements through people they have conquered, Greece, Rome, and India. Their advancement allowed Muslim achievements to stand out and make a lasting impact on world cultures; their contributions affected various areas including art, architecture, medicine, agriculture, music, language, and technology. The Muslims were able to make such great contributions because of their preserved knowledge, their civilization, and their ability of simplification. These contributions impacted the world by helping medicine advance, building a trade network, and the growth of mapmaking. Muslims both preserved existing knowledge and extended it, which allowed Muslims to make their great contributions. Muslims had many practical reasons for learning, including, the advancement of science, qualified physicians to treat illness, and mathematicians and astronomers to calculate time. "Muslims had practical reasons for supporting the advancement of science. Also, after using their observations and their understanding of mathematics, Muslim scholars were able to make an advancement in mapmaking. They used astrolabe and armillary sphere to help study skies and make calculations for calendars and maps. (Doc. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Analysis Of 'The Moon Is A Lighthouse : Revisited' "The Moon is a Lighthouse: Revisited" is a short story that relies heavily on symbolism and imagery and intentionally makes elements of itself vague enough to be interpreted in a variety of ways. The primary story is quite simple on the surface is quite simple. A mother tells her sons to bring her a river. They move the bed towards the river face a window. It is raining, and the brothers decide that the rain is good for making mud. The moon is not visible from the window however. Then, despite the boys asking her to do so, the mother can not see the river because she is on her back. The mother then compares the river to the sky, the stars to the eyes of fish, and the moon to a light house. The first time I read "The Moon is a Lighthouse: Revisited," I had no idea what was happening. I lingered on the portion in the beginning where the mother said "Bring me your river" because I was utterly confused. At first, I thought it was a random interjection that had no relation to the surrounding text, but I quickly realized that the piece of text was just dialogue without quotes around it. My first reading was centered around trying to understand what the piece literally means. My first reading gave me the sense that I was watching a Stanley Kubrick film like 2001: A Space Odyssey, rather than reading a short story because of how experimental it was. Literature is an old art form, so I thought that there were only so many things a person can do to push boundaries, but I was clearly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Welcome To Night Vale Character Analysis "Welcome to Night Vale...a friendly desert community somewhere in the American Southwest where the sun is hot, the moon is beautiful and mysterious lights pass overhead while its citizens pretend to sleep." (Second Cover). Welcome to Night Vale was co –authored by Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Cranor. It is set in a town that is exactly like any other town, and at the same time unlike any other town, with quirky neighbours, local radio and community culture. • 5. All Summer Is A Day By Ray Bradbury Many centuries after the first spaceship landed on the moon, a group of brave rocket men and women did the unbelievable. The short story "All summer is a day", by Ray Bradbury, takes place in the underground city of the planet Venus where tunnels roamed instead of streets. The land above them was submerged with endless pouring rain and deadly jungles. The sight of the sun was a rare miracle that only happened once every seven years. The children spent all their life in the enclosed underground tunnels, well all except for one. Margot was the only child who came to Venus when she was four, and the biggest difference was that she still remembered the times when the glowing sun gave warmth and hope. Thesis Statement (1–3 sentences) – Her past experiences and opportunities caused the children of Venus to be jealous of her. As a result, the children harassed Margot in disbelief. The gloomy, enclosed environment affects everyone greatly. The message of the story shows how the environment and the people around you can affect you because of their own lack of experiences. The author portrays this when the children harass the main character, he also uses craft moves to show isolation of the main character, and how depressed she is as a result. To begin, the author shows that the harassment Margot goes through is due to the children' lack of knowledge about the sun since they have spent their whole life on Venus. Throughout the day, Margot brings back memories of the sun. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was a welcoming chill; the kind you can only feel from the air on a Spring morning. A cold that contrasted the heat of his body, but did not overtake it. Calum liked the feeling of breathing in the morning air, but that pleasure was taken from his lungs when his fingers met his lips. Instead of the sweet fresh air, he was breathing in death, wondering when it would come. Smoking was calming to him. When the entirety of his focus was on that one cigarette, everything else escaped his mind, and for a few minutes the only pain he felt was the dull burn of the cigarette. His whole body was numb. • 7. La Luna Short Story La Luna He stares at the beautiful night sky as his father and Nonno takes him to the quiet sea. They took a small wooden boat which can fit three people in. The wooden boat swishes through the middle of the calm dark water as Bambino's father rows gently. He parked the wooden boat properly. The three watched the sky as the beautiful and bright moon rises up high onto the horizon. Bambino's father pulls up a tall ladder from the inside of the bottom of the boat and lets it reach near closely to the moon. He and Nonno tells Bambino to climb up. Bambino hesitantly wraps himself with the metal anchor tied with a rope and slowly went up. As he was on the edge of the ladder, he started to lose his balance and has the urge to panic. He levitated towards the moon with his eyes squinting closed. With one eye open, he tries to carefully land on the moon while looking at his two feet. After Bambino had landed, he slowly lifted his face up and there he saw were millions of shining little stars. His jaw dropped and his eyes sparkle with joy and happiness the first time he saw them. While his father and Nonno climb up, a light came swiftly towards the moon and made a "clink clink" sound. It sounded like glass dropped. Bambino walks cautiously to it and it was a twinkling golden star. He crouches down to his knees to the twinkling golden star and looks at it when it was still shining. It made a sharp "shing" sound when he gently taps it with his finger. When Bambino tries to grab the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Modern World Of The Islamic And Arabic World : A Bit Of A... Centuries of colonialism, Eurocentrism, and global policing has given the European world, particularly the Anglosphere, a bit of a hero–complex. There is an all too common way of thinking that, within the past couple of decades or so, European and American political, cultural, and military forces have just begun a cultural infiltration of the previously isolated and primitive Middle East. It is believed by many that western entities are modernizing the Middle East. The veracity, utility, and morality of such actions will not be discussed here. What will be discussed is that the inverse of that assumption is true: it is as a result of centuries of progress in the Islamic and Arabic world that modern global society as a whole exists today. It is common knowledge that it is the European Renaissance to which we owe our modern understanding of science, mathematics, and medicine, as well as the technology that makes our lives possible today. This "rebirth", so to speak, was inspired by a multitude a factors, but a key catalyst was the reintroduction and study of classical Greek texts. As such, there is a common cut–and–dry view of the history of knowledge as having sprung from Hellenic Greece, having laid dormant after the fall of Rome, and suddenly reemerging in Europe in the fourteenth century (Van Ness Meyers). There are many problems with this mode of thinking (the first being that western thought did not spontaneously arise in Greece, but may have originated in Ancient ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This was 1st used in trigonometry but later on used in other mathematical formulas and equations. Hipparchus had referred to Timocharis, who was and astronomer who lived 150 years before him. Hipparchus appears on many Roman coins from five different emperors reigns in 138 AD and 253 AD. Hipparchus has made three contributions to astronomy. Hipparchus was the 1st Greek to create a quantitative and an accurate model for the motion of the Sun and Moon. Another contribution he made is more towards mathematical contribution. Hipparchus possessed a trigonometric table and he likely solved problems of spherical trigonometry. The last contribution is he made a reliable method of predicting solar eclipses, and the compilation of the first comprehensive star catalog. Hipparchus has many others work but sadly they are now lost. These included an astronomical and astrological writings and a catalogue of his own works. • 10. Summary Of All Summer In A Day "All Summer In A Day" by Ray Bradbury is a short story about a girl named Margot and her experiences on the planet Venus. Margot moved to Venus from Earth when she was 4 years old, old enough to remember the sun. On Venus, the sun only comes out every 7 years for a couple hours, other than this, it's always raining. The other children on this planet bullied Margot, they were mean to her because she could remember the sun, and they didn't. One lesson the story suggests is that when you don't think about your actions, it can lead to regret and guilt. Throughout the story, the children were jealous of Margot and bullied her. Bradbury says, "They surged about her, caught her up and bore her, protesting, and then pleading, and then crying, back into a tunnel, a room, a closet, where they slammed and locked the door. They stood looking at the door and saw it tremble from her beating and throwing herself against it. They heard her muffled cries. Then, smiling, they turned and went out and back down the tunnel, just as the teacher arrived." This paragraph illustrates how mean the children were to Margot and how they acted so quickly without really thinking about what they were doing. When the children did this they acted out of jealousy and hurt Margot, without even knowing it. This is a reason why you should always think before you say or do something; sometimes we can get wrapped up in our own jealousy and hurt someone. After the the children hurt Margot they felt terrible and guilty. In the story it states "They stood as if someone had driven them like so many stakes, into the floor. They looked at each other and then looked away...They could not meet each other's glances. Their faces were solemn and pale." These couple short sentences tell us how the children looked after they remembered Margot, by knowing this, we know how they felt. Before, all of the children teamed up and shoved her in a closet, then the sun came out and they had a great time playing outside together. After 2 hours the sun was gone again and the children finally remember about Margot, when this happened each of them felt tremendously guilty. This a a reason why you should always be kind to others, because no matter what you will hurt them and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Summary OfAll Summer In A Day By Ray Bradbury In the story, "All Summer in a Day," Ray Bradbury draws us in, as readers, with a story that takes place on the planet Venus. The environment of Venus is as described in this quote, "It had been raining for seven years; thousands upon thousands of days compounded and filled from one end to the other with rain, with the gush and gush of water...fall of showers and the concussion of storms so heavy they were tidal waves come over the islands..."(Bradbury, 1954) With an environment like this, what type of people would those on Venus be if they had never felt, saw, or experienced the sun before? The only one that has experienced and remembers the sun is a young girl, Margot. Margot lived on Earth until she was four years old, unlike the others who have been living underground in Venus for their entire lives. Because of this, Margot is constantly facing problems regarding her classmates' jealousy of her past opportunities. Without the sun, she has become, as Bradbury writes, "...a very frail girl who looked as if she had been lost in the rain for years and the rain had washed out the blue from her eyes and the red from her mouth and the yellow from her hair. She was an old photograph dusted from an album, whitened away, and if she spoke at all her voice would be a ghost."(1954, Bradbury) In this short story by Bradbury, the theme is that jealousy and ignorance can blind us from seeing things how they really are. This is shown time after time when Margot is harassed, depressed, and isolated because of her classmates' jealousy. To begin, a way that Bradbury shows us that jealousy and ignorance can shield a person from the truth is through the main character, Margot, who is constantly being harassed by her classmates. The only reason Margot's classmates harass her is because she remembers the sun. This makes her different from all the others, who have lived here on Venus since birth. In this way, they are uneducated or ignorant because they have never experienced the sun. Because she is different, the classmates take every chance they have to harass her in any way they can. Right before the sun came out, one of the rare events that Margot was greatly looking forward to, the classmates "...surged about her, caught her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Christmas Descriptive Writing On that momentous Christmas Eve of 2013, daubs of ashen grays, splattered specks of lapis, careless streaks of pale lavender, and muted, chalky whites were smeared across the blank canvas sky, barely concealing the cold, distant stars. The sliver of the moon that was shaped as though it were a narrow, shining claw, was tied to the edge of a low hanging cloud with a thin, wisp of a string. Millions of the beautiful feathery, ice crystals were brutally thrown toward the Earth, onto the frosted, dead grass, where they joined their companions in a heap of broken, mangled snowflakes. For the ecclesiastical holiday, scintillating lights were intertwined with newly bought, plastic reindeer scattered across the yard, along with a snowman with a crooked,... Like his parents and older brothers before him, young Antonio struggles to find his true inner self as his parents push two family names on him. In Anaya Rudolfo's novel Bless Me, Ultima, Antonio is ultimately a mixture between a Marez and a Luna, as seen through the juxtaposition between the symbols of the moon and the sea, as well as God and the Golden Carp. The moon that represents the Luna family, and sea which connects to the Marez, are forces which push Antonio to make his final decision about family. In the beginning, Antonio tries his hardest to please both of his parents by combining their dissimilar ideas about his future. Although Antonio begins his life thinking he is a mixture of both parents' heritage, the juxtaposition of the symbols in the book changes his mind on that, "It is the blood of the Lunas to be quiet... They are quiet like the moon – And it is the blood of the MГЎrez to be wild, like the ocean from which they take their name" (Anaya 41). Aside from the obvious fact that the Spanish word for moon is, in fact, Luna, that family represents the moon. The calmness of said moon contrasts with the wild men of the sea. Maria is controlling of her family, similar to how the moon controls the sea. Each contrasting idea propels Antonio in separate directions– either towards the Luna priests or the Marez vaqueros. Despite the fact that his mother wants to make a priest out of Antonio, the other side of his family thinks in their own unique way, "He is a Marez... His forefathers were conquistadors, men as restless as the seas they sailed" (Anaya 6). Once again, the contrary sides of Antonio's family pull him to the sea instead of the moon. The true struggle Antonio goes through is choosing his own destiny, even with the strong influences of both the moon and sea. Suddenly he has a moment of realization and tells his uncle, "'I am Marez,'... 'That is right, you are a Marez first, then Luna" (Anaya 250). Even though he may think he is Marez first, he still lives with Luna blood coursing through his veins. After all, he skipped a grade, which makes him a boy of learning. The story revolves around one of the most glorified women in ancient Alexandria, the mathematician/philosopher/astronomer, Hypatia. She is first seen lecturing to her students about how things on Earth tend to fall down in a straight path downward. She demonstrates this idea by dropping a handkerchief. Alongside her is the devoted slave, Davus, who seemed to have a special feeling to his mistress. Two prominent characters are also introduced, namely, Orestes (lover of Hypatia; later became the prefect ofAlexandria) and Synesius (a faithful Christian; later became the Bishop of Cyrene). A group of scientists and their children live on Venus, a planet that only sees the sun for an hour every seven years. The kids that immigrated here are only 9 years old. They do not remember the sun, as they have only seen the sun once, 7 years ago. But, there is a girl named Margot. Unlike the other kids, she was born on earth and moved to Venus 5 years ago. The children living on Venus treat Margot mercilessly in jealousy due to her prior knowledge and experiences. This causes Margot to be a victim of depression, harassment, and denial. There are many conditions that affect Margot, One of them is depression. Unlike the other kids, Margot moved to Venus 5 years ago. She remembers the sun. Studies have shown that people who live in places where the sun doesn't shine for the better part of time can be depressed from Vitamin D or lack of the sun. This is what is happening to Margot. Humans are triggered by many things in nature, like the wolf who is manipulated by the full moon most humans are manipulated by the bright suns. The sun in the novel The Stranger by Albert Camus is an advisory for the indifference of the protagonist Meursault. The indifference of Meursault was devastating to the structure of societal conformity making it a habit of ostracizing him throughout the novel and only when the sun rises the truth is revealed. Since the beginning of the novel it was evident that Meursault was uncertain about the world he lives in, his attitude showed that he was detached from the world that he didn't even know when his mother died. "Maman died today. Or yesterday maybe, I don't know." (Camus 3). However, when exposed to the sun, Meursault grew more irritated and indifferent than he already was. It was obvious that Meursault had trouble with adjusting to the heat and bright lights. As the sun and the heat grew stronger and more overpowering, it became more manipulative. The now widely practiced faith began in an area called Arabia, which neither Rome nor Persia dared conquer. From its creation, it contributed several important things to Medieval Europe and the World as a whole. It conquered a large region and gained thousands of followers.Islam began, as stated, in the desert land of Arabia. Due to the Arabs' tribal nature, they were skilled at navigation and long–distance trading. They became the guides and couriers of the trade routes going to and from Africa and Asia. Thus, towns began to form, including the famous pilgrimage site, Mecca. Arabian tribes often worshipped the Black Stone, kept in the Kaaba, which was located in Mecca. Thus, those that controlled the shrine controlled the entire economic and spiritual life of the region surrounding Mecca. From this group came Muhammad, who founded Islam and changed the course of the Arabs worship. After experiencing a spiritual epiphany in, or around, 610, Muhammad made a decision to worship only the most prominent god in Arab faith, Allah. Following this major change in faith, Muhammad tried to gain a following among the Arab people. This proved unsuccessful at first, so Muhammad and his friends journeyed to the area of Yathrib, which he renamed Medina and established himself as the ruler. It was later written in the Quran, which is the Islamic sacred text. The religion united everyone under one rule and appealed to all because there was no hierarchy. It particularly diffused during the Middle Ages, whenIslam had a great desire in exploring new information, developing extensive trade and creating a powerful military system in the Middle East and North Africa, which helped the Islamic World dominate politically and religiously. One of the many ways that Islam extended its empire was through the educational advancement ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the Islamic Empire conquered places, people weren't forced to believe in Allah; they were generally threatened with taxation. The tolerance of other religions in the places that they conquered shows that Islam was a religion of equality and courtesy. It states, "Believe or else pay tribute [money]... obey the Lord and His Apostle [Mohammad], and he will defend you... But if you displease them... I will fight against you and take captive your little ones and slay the elder." (Document 1, Muhammad). However, if they chose to wholeheartedly embrace Islam, the people were given gifts of payment to illustrate that their faith was acknowledged. "Similarly, stipends were granted to some Persian or Aramean nobles (dihqans) who cooperated with the Muslims in Iraq. In most cases, it appears that these individuals were required to embrace Islam in order to receive their stipend." (Document C, The Early Islamic Conquest, Fred Donner). Moreover, Muslims usually went to war or fought when enemies attacked the religion of Islam. This is known as jihad and it is a way to show devotion to God without the use of instigation. It states, " Koranic revelation commanded them to "Fight in the cause of God against those who fight you, but do not be the aggressors." The early Muslims thus fought their heathen enemies... war against unbelievers was sanctioned by divine revelation and the example of the Prophet." ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. Astronomy Of The Islamic World Astronomy in Medieval Islam Astronomy is the branch of science that deals with celestial objects, space, and the universe as a whole. During the medieval era, a golden age of innovations in science took part in the Islamic world. In particular cities in the Iberian Peninsula, like Cordoba, astronomy blossomed and thrived as an aftermath of the genius and creativity that took place there. Innovations in astronomy were vital in inspiring the other scientific discoveries, and were greatly encouraged by the religious groups during the time. In the Oxford Encyclopedia of the Islamic World, S. Nomanul Haq and Massimo Campanini wrote that "astronomy is the only natural science that escaped the censure of the medieval Muslim opponents of secular sciences (КїulЕ«m al–awДЃКїil) and found a home in mosques, receiving the blessing of mainstream religious circles."1 Because of this support and encouragement, scientists of astronomy were set up to thrive and innovate. Discoveries during this period made fundamental advancements on Greek and Mesopotamian astronomy and were crucial for the later advances of Copernicus and Kepler that give the view on astronomy that is held today. The support of astronomy that garnered during the medieval era had many influences. One influence was religion. Marking time accurately is essential for many religions including Islam, Judaism, and Christianity. Islam and Science presents an articulate and concise historical introduction to intellectual developments that have shaped Islamic civilization, both religious and scientiп¬Ѓc. The work attempts to 'construct a coherent account of the larger religious and cultural background' in which the Islamic scientiп¬Ѓc tradition came into existence and to explore the 'vexingly complex' issue of its decline. The main thesis is that scientiп¬Ѓc traditions 'arose from the bosom ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Chapter ten criticizes 'Islamization of modern science' projects, a new genre of scientiп¬Ѓc exegesis of the Qur'an, for their 'profanation of the religious texts,' since the Qur'an cannot be interpreted 'in the light of a knowledge that is always changing.' The last chapter calls for a reconnection of Islam and science 'through a central nexus which is the unitive function' that was and should constitute the basis of any Islam/science discourse. [4] Written from an insider's perspective, the work will undoubtedly fuel debates over the nature of the relationship between Islam and science, both the one that existed in the past and the one that should exist today. The author is not a philosopher, a historian or a sociologist of science, nor a historian of ideas, but a Muslim chemist and writer who is aware that his tentative conclusions 'might not be shared by certain historians of science' in Islam. A closer examination of the work may explain why this might be so. [5] A п¬Ѓrst methodological diп¬ѓculty the work encounters is rooted in a conceptual confusion over what constitutes the 'Islamic scientiп¬Ѓc tradition,' since it includes: Islamic 'religious ... • 36. Summary OfAll Summer In A Day? The sun is a big, bright star located at the very center of our solar system. Everything our world, that we know of, needs the sun and its light. In fact, people get joy just from experiencing the sun's glorious heat. But what if we had to live our life sans the sun, without any light? What if you had to live your life in constant raining and thunder? In the short story, "All Summer in a Day", a group of scientists had journeyed to the planet Venus, an ever–raining world, to set up a civilization and continue with their lives. Many of the scientists are raising their offspring. One of the nine–year–old children is Margot. But instead of being born on Venus, she comes from warm, sunny Ohio; she came when she was four. She is considered different from the other children of Venus because she has memories of basking in the sunlight, while the others do not. Margot has different memories and experiences in her life, compared to the children that she is surrounded by, and so they treat her poorly. Ray Bradbury shows this in the text with isolation, harassment, and oppression. To illustrate text, Bradbury uses craft moves such as long, descriptive sentences and metaphors, Bradbury writes, "She was an old photograph dusted from an album, whitened away, and if she spoke at all her voice would be a ghost. Now she stood, separate..."(Bradbury, 1954), to make the reader understand Margot's depression. Margot is not only mentally, but physically heterogeneous. Because of her differences ... • 37. Comparing The Sun And The Moon In One Day In The Life Of... The sun and the moon have long been seen as a dichotomy through various cultures. Day and night, hot and cold; the list can continue with different interpretations. But, in a Gulag labour camp, where "a convict's thoughts are no freer than he is" (40) – subjected only to the unjust oppression by the Soviet government – their ideas of what the sun and moon can mean is significantly repressed to ideas of misfortunes that are perpetuated by the camp and the government. In Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn's novel, One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich, the sun and the moon are symbols of two ideas that derive from the prisoner's experience in the Gulag camp: incarceration and enlightenment. Although the sun is often thought as empowering, the prisoners ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The novel explores what life might be like outside of camp on one occasion, when Ivan Denisovich's wife sent him a letter about carpet dyeing. Despite having an opportunity outside of camp, Denisovich was indifferent because "he lost the habit of scheming how he was going to feed his family" (44). The guards give prisoners work to do, and that is the prisoner's only purpose in life once they are incarcerated. How the sun represents incarceration despite the sun's lively connotations, it transcends the confusion that the labour camp and the Soviet government were stirring in the prisoner's head. Using the moon's symbolism, it leads prisoners and the readers to contemplate on this underlying turmoil. But even though life in prison is difficult, somehow "life was easier" (44) because Denisovich did not have to bear the burden of his family. He was also questioning if life "was easier– here or there" (178). This seemingly unquestionable conclusion that a life of liberty outside of camp is much easier than a life of incarceration inside of camp is being obfuscated by the Soviet government. The prisoners no longer know what they want, and this confusion alludes to how the Soviet government is wrecking havoc both in the camps and the nation. Solzhenitsyn was trying to convey this idea through One Day in the Life of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Analysis Of All Summer In A Day Prakriti Bhattarai Period ВЅ 11–17–17 All Summer in a Day Harassment, bullying, isolation and depression are things a nine year old should not be experiencing, but for a little girl living who's living on Venus, this is exactly what is happening. The short story "All Summer in a Day by Ray Bradbury", takes place on the planet Venus where everyday is like the next, full of rain. To the residents of Venus, this is normal, unless you just moved here five years ago. This is the case for Margot who has to deal with the torture of remembering life on Earth. Every seven years, the sun shines on Venus. For just two hour, the rain stops pouring and the sky turns blue. Margot has been waiting for this day ever since she moved to Venus. Unfortunately, the other students lock her in the closet and she misses the opportunity to see the sun that she loves and misses so much. A theme throughout the story is that the children of Venus are jealous of Margot because she is different, this is shown when the author describes Margot, when Margot is in the shower, and when the children lock her in the closet. One of the reasons that the children of Venus are jealous of Margot is because of her different experiences. The author writes "the biggest crime of all was that she has come here only five years ago from Earth, and she remembered the sun and the away the sun was and the sky" (Bradbury 1974). He uses this quote to show the reader the relationship between Margot and her classmates. It shows ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The whole image is in black and white; with it being lighter on the bottom half from the the building and street lights, and darker on the upper half, indicating that it is most likely nighttime. First of all, Miranda gave the astronaut helmet as a gift to Auggie years ago when Auggie was experiencing life throughout his early years; the astronaut helmet signifies assistance and friendship to Auggie.
