Custer began exploring careers in railroads and mining. Following the death of his father–in–law in May of 1866, Custer returned
to his home in Monroe, Michigan, that is when he had considered running for Congress. He was very involved in the American

Will Keith Kellogg come into the world on April 7,1860 in Battle Creek Michigan. John and Ann Kellogg believed that hard work
and being kind to people was the best way of life. When Willie was old enough to walk, he helped his mother work in the garden
and do the laundry. At the age of 7 Willie started to work at his father's broom company in the afternoons and weekends. His
parents thought that with the money he earned Will should buy his own clothes. During the day he went to school. Will was shy

After the victory at the "Battle of Boonville" Nathaniel Lyon, who was the first Union general to be killed in the Civil War, ordered
the United States 5th regiment to occupy Lexington. Upon arrival Charles G. Stifel instructed the men to start destroying boats that
could be used to cross the wide Missouri River. He also commanded the soldiers to collect any resources they found. Surprisingly

Confederate General Sterling Price began fighting at Lexington on September 12 when two federal companies commenced firing
