Sherlock vcasmo
1. Straight away the mis en scene of the cobble stones
conveys to the audience the time period in which the
film is set. The cobbles also artistically display all the
logos of the organisations and companies involved in
the making of the film.
The fact that the cobbles are wet and of dark colour
sets the mood/atmosphere for the opening sequence,
this is heightened by the use of non diegetic sound –
backing track, This connotates mystery and sets the
pace for the rest of the opening.
2. Here the diegetic sound has been boosted to overlap the
sound of the backing track in order for the pace to pick
up and the action to begin.
3. The music has now changed to reflect and match the
action on screen.
The setting and props now confirms the time period to
the audience i.e., buildings, horse and carriage.
4. The camera now follows the action onscreen, followed
by close ups of two central characters and their weapons,
the audience are now in suspense of what's going to
happen next. This also conveys the genre of the film.
The mis en scene of costume further conforms to the
time period in which the film is set.
5. The music now alters again as we are introduced to
another character through a close up shot of the him
running in front of the horse and carriage, the pace
quickens.
6. Here minimal lighting is used to establish the setting and
put the character into a silhouette.
Furthermore the crow could connotate bad luck and
misfortune, perhaps foreshadowing the openings later
events.
7. The long shot of the character running helps the audience
to establish the setting even further.
8. The non diegetic sound then falls in time with the
characters movement and abruptly changes to suit the
pace of what’s being shown on screen.
9. The music merges with the diegetic sound of the door
opening and comes to an end when the character goes
through the door and out of sight, creating a cliff hanger
and atmosphere of suspense.
