1. How did you use new media technologies in
the construction and research, planning
and evaluation stages?
Evaluation Q4
2. Software
Research and Planning
• Prezi and Emaze: I used these as a means of presentation for my blog, it is an
alternative for using Microsoft PowerPoint however it has a similar idea. It enabled me
to create a smooth, professional set of transitions acting as a more interesting way to
present information successfully. This was better than using microsoft as it meant we
had more options to chose from when presenting as I had to present multiple times so
using the same software would have become boring.
• Voki: This is an online software which enables you to present text through the use of a
dialogue presented in a digital communication. It was a more direct method of
presenting information in a creative way, but ensuring that what I wanted to be said was
clear and easy to understand.
• Photoshop: We used photoshop to create mood boards to come up with inspiration
and ideas, We also used this when creating the Logo for our company as it was easy to
use and something that we already knew how to use. It created a professional look
genuine so that it was similar and looked realistic like the company logo’s that are
already out there. We also used this for when we created our poster and magazine, it is
effective because our member of the team who was confident on using it and had used it
previously, meaning we were able to create the poster and magazine we wanted.
4. Software
• Youtube/Vimeo: Both of these I used to help get ideas and inspiration
for our film. I researched into other films that were already on the market,
originally looking at all genre’s and then eventually pin pointing all of my
research into Action/Thriller films in order to understand the conventions
and what other directors had used to help me to decide what I thought would
be effective in our films. This also was helpful when it came to finding
music for our film, First it was important to continue research and listen to
what conventionally thriller films used. I was then able to find non-
copyright soundtracks and sound effects for us to use. These were better
than using things like grooveshark because we could download them easier
by simply copying the link into an mp3 converter.
• Soundcloud: This was an effective software for me to use when
looking for music for my film, because it was a simple way to find non-
copyright music as soundcloud is full of non signed singers and producers
who create their own music and sound effects. This is where we found our
soundtrack that we have actually used in our film.

5. Software
• Final Cut Express: In order to edit our
film we used Final Cut Express, this was not
something we had a choice about as it is the
software we have installed on the Mac laptops
we use. However, it was effective as we had
prior knowledge to how it works and the options
that were available for us to use. The use of
transitions such as fade was something we
which were used a lot in the construction of our
film, it was especially useful when we were
showing the two different lifestyles as It helped
to show they were contrasting, Fade also helped
smooth transitions.
• Weebly: This was what we used to present
our progressions throughout the production of
our film in a blog format, it was a simple and
easy to use and an effective way to convey
information and ideas. For example, when
building the website you can slide components
you want it to include in the blog post, this was
easier than blogger which worked more as
filling a text box.
6. HARDWARE
• Camera: In production we used an SLR Sony camera for our shots, this is a
high quality camera which connects to a tripod. The quality of the camera
meant we were able to get steady, clear shots, which made our production
look as professional as possible. This was better than some alternatives such
as the Legria camera because when putting the shots onto the mac we found
that the SLR kept them relatively sharp and clear for pan and wide shots
which gave our product a more professional look.
• Below are some examples of the shots we produced with his camera:
7. HARDWARE
• The tripod: Made sure we had still shots throughout to ensure that there was not any
shaking from our hands. In one part of our film, we chose not to use a tripod when
Theo was running, this contrasted the smooth transitions of shots and therefore
created a different feeling to the shot, this highlights how Important the use of the
tripod is, as if it wasn’t used all our shots would gibe this same feeling which is not
what we wanted to achieve. It was especially helpful for when we did our London
Skyline shots as it meant we could pan at ease. The tripod we used was better as it
has a three tier stand where as there are some which only have two, this meant that
we had more of a range of the height of where wanted the shot, This was especially
helpful when we were filming the houses of parliament because we had to film over a
fence to get the Thames in as well.
