Calsoft was engaged to maximize I/O performance from a Lustre file system for a large education provider. They created Lustre client and server packages for Ubuntu and CentOS, configured RAID6 storage from 60 SAS drives, and identified performance differences between the RAID6 drivers in the 2.6.32 and 3.16.3 Linux kernels. Calsoft proposed porting Lustre patches to the latest 3.16.3 kernel, including porting a zero copy patch and tuning performance from the SAS drives to RAID0, RAID6, and the Lustre server and client. This solution provided identical performance to proprietary hardware on commodity equipment.
