15. Past progressive
• In stories past progressive is used to describe the background , context
or environment of a story.
16. Past Simple
• Are short actions in time, they are finished, and they do not express a
long lapse, For example:
I ate salad two minutes ago.
They broke the window.
I studied English at 2am.
17. Past simple and past progressive
• We can use the past progressive to connect a chain of actions in the
past using when and while, For example:
We were having lunch when my father arrived.
We were studying while my mom was screaming.
They killed my father while I was looking for the keys.
• In this examples we can notice that the yellow actions took more time
than the green ones. It is a matter of how do I want to tell my story-
Ex: The sun shone, and I was screaming outrageous(Means that was
the last time for the sun).
• The sun was shining , and I was screaming outrageous. (Means the
sun stills alive)
