Stereotypes In Films
In today's films, perceptions of women haven't changed much. Nancy Signorielli has a case study
that looked at popular films today and how young girls are portrayed in them. Signorieilli coded the
top 25 films for girls 12–17 in 1995 to look for traits that the characters were portraying and the
situations they were in. She found from her study that girls in these films were 20–30% more likely
to be talking about romance, doing gender stereotyped chores, dating, talking about friends and
clothes, on the phone, grooming, talking about the opposite sex, in class, shopping and working out.
The men in these movies are 25% more likely to be working. In addition to looking at what these
characters are doing, they also looked at the type of behavior they exhibit during the films. From the
study they found that girls were 10–20% more likely to be honest, crying or whining, flirting,
compromising, follow intuition, and be seductive as Signorielli found in her research. From this
they found that the men were more intelligent, more threatening and intimidating, more
hardworking, more risk taking, and use physical force more. From this study it can be seen that
these negative perceptions of women are still similar to the period of ... Show more content on

I chose to draw inspiration from these films because they all portray different stereotypes of girls in
all of them. I chose films that were focused on teenagers because I felt that the age group is one I
know well because I myself am part of it. I believe it's important to be able to focus on stereotypes
of girls that impact my life and age group because not only is it something that I can connect to, but
it is an important message for students who will view this

Modern Film And Modern Films
People argue that modern films are better than earlier films. It is argued that due to advances in film
making and the film technology. Movies like House of Flying Daggers show that with great
directing and usage of the modern–day technology that marvelous films can be made. This is not to
dispute the fact that flims like Lifeboat and White Heat were not both fantastic in their own way.
The films used the resources that they had to their advantages and made unbelievable films. Despite
the greatness of early films, a modern film with both great cinematography, directing, and plot line
are better than an early film with those same components.
Modern films like House of Flying Daggers are the best kind of films that can be made. House of
Flying Daggers is an incredible action–packed love story with various plot twists that kept the
viewer both entertained and on the edge of their seat. This is also one of the most visually appealing
films of all time. Its usage of beautiful outfits and the cinematographer's ability to shoot the beauty
of nature make this a wonderful movie to watch. A film that is both visually appealing and possess a
good solid plot line are the best films that can be created. To start off, the usage of color that is used
in House of Flying Daggers is just remarkable. The scene where the characters are in the bamboo
forest really stuck out to me. All the green that was shown really was mesmerizing. Also, when Mei

Film Analysis Of The Film Thor : Ragnorak
Marvel Industries are known for their well made comics, but more importantly, their movies.
Almost every single trailer they release becomes viral, having millions of views worldwide. People
say that the trailer's does an exceptional job in hyping up the movie, gaining the public's curiosity
through the trailers they release. Still, we need to ask ourselves, "How?" How does this company do
so well in making their movies look so intriguing, yet not revealing the whole movie to the public?
By analyzing the trailer for the very anticipated fantasy/science fiction film Thor: Ragnorak, we can
see that this trailer is successful in rousing the viewers curiosity for this film by implementing the
various types of camera angle shots they use in the trailer, such as close–ups on certain characters,
which shows that they might be important in the movie, and the numerous amounts of color they use
in certain environments to establish a type of theme that will be prominent throughout the movie to
come.
In every single Thor movie to date, they make Thor look like an invincible, strong and powerful
god. They do this by having the camera angles shot lower or under Thor, making him look down on
us. By doing this, it gives him that superior look and feel to him. Moreover, in Thor: Ragnorak, they
seem to have changed this up a bit by showing what seems to be the main antagonist in the trailer, as
more powerful than everyone. In one shot, they put her on top of a flight of stairs, and having

The Film Skyfall : Film Analysis Of A Film Noire
"It has always been easier to recognize a film noir than to define the term" (Naremore 1995). This is
an accurate statement which pertains to the difficulty of forming an adequate description for film
noir. Although it may not be easy to describe, it is easier to point out the typical characteristics of
noir films. Noir films are notorious for their dark, pessimistic, and corrupt moods as well as for
crime and ambiguity. Based on noir characteristics, the film Skyfall is a film noir.
Skyfall is a fairly recent film that came out in 2012. The film was directed by Sam Mendes and was
produced by Eon Productions. The basis of the film is that James Bond resolves to come out of
retirement to help M and the M16 after both have been compromised and come under attack. Bond
must stop a foe from M's past who resurfaces to settle a vendetta. This movie is important because
even though it is a modern film, it depicts how characteristics of film noir continue to live on and
evolve in newer films. This film presents many of the typical noir cinematic elements. Skyfall
makes use of smoke, fog, and dust in many of the scenes to add an obscuring affect. The use of
smoke can be seen at 1:41:49–1:42:05 where Bond shoots at the fire extinguisher which fills the
room with smoke. This all occurs while M is being attacked by Raoul Silva during a public inquiry.
Another noir cinematic element is the use of lighting to produce shadows. A great example of this
occurs at 1:37:15–1:37:25 where Bond

The Importance Of Film And Film
The importance of film and the movies that collectively tell history is easily overlooked during ones
search for entertainment. Sometimes movies persuade the viewer without them noticing, and then
sometimes it's just obvious. During WWII, the film industry was still young, however, they were
growing quickly. Hollywood was making an impression as soon as possible, and with the war just
starting nearly 15 years after, Hollywood was able to expand onto that front. From persuading
viewers, to being labeled as "propaganda", the film industry made an impact on World War 2. It's
hard to tell which films made an impact on history and give them proper credit, however, M. Todd
Bennett goes about his book by telling history through media and film observations. One World, Big

Film Analysis : Movie, Film, And Films
Background
As a medium, films act as a very effective medium to share the stories and affecting people's life.
Since ancient times, the stage has been utilized to tell stories. When the motion picture was invented
in the 19th century, it instantaneously captivates the world. Films have the power to hypnotize,
bringing its viewer to certain realms. With its power to subdue its subject, film becomes a vocal tool
to get inside people's mind. Just like literature, film also creates and promotes cultures.
Why It Is Important
From time to time, this medium has been misused by a large number of people in the industry, to
sell propagandas and deceitful agendas. Hollywood gives influences the whole world and set a

Film Analysis : ' Movie ' Of A Film '
For anyone who has ever watched a film is a critic in some form. They judge various aspects based
on personal feelings or attitudes, then state them for anybody to hear. I, the writer, am guilty of this
type of film analysis. I based my 'review' of a film solely on how I felt the narrative evolved or how
well the acting was done. I never considered why the rhetor of film choose certain details or what
might have influenced the rhetor in the first place. However, through this course I was exposed to
two academic ways of analyzing films, contextually and descriptively. Contextual analysis of a film
uses the events surrounding the film's production or release and the audiences' response to the film
to develop an understanding of the film. Descriptive analysis of a film uses details from the film or
the rhetor's specific choices to decipher what the underlying massage the film was attempting to
portray. In this paper, I will describe the two ways of academically analyzing film, contextually and
descriptively, and how using both styles for the same film is the only way to fully comprehend the
film. The first way to analyze a film in an academic fashion is through contextual analysis. This
method of analysis is reliant on the concept of time. "The key point is that all rhetoric is presented at
a specific time and place and cannot be understood apart from that time and place." (Rowland, 2002,
p.35). For each time and place, there is differing contexts that will shape the way the

Since I've been studying hard all day, I didn't really have time to post something. Well I would if I
wasn't watching Schindler's List again, but when the mood strikes, one should watch that film. So
here is an essay that I wrote a couple of months ago for school, which is all about film piracy and
why I'm against it. The essay managed to get an extremely high excellence. See how different my
writing is when I'm at school compared to when I'm blogging (if I seem to be over–exaggerating a
lot this is because I'm just trying to get my point across, as I am supposed to be writing this essay
for a 'school magazine'):

continues to grow at a fast speed. Envisonal states that 23.76% of global internet traffic is used for
infringing content. With the internet's continual rapid growth, these numbers are set to get bigger –
eventuating in a criminal act such as piracy becoming the biggest user of the internet.
People are under the impression that downloading/watching a pirated film on the internet is
harmless, when it is really theft. What these people fail to realise is that film–making accounts for
over 2.4 million jobs in the US, and is a major contributor to the global economy. The film industry
isn't the only one that loses money to piracy, as the Department for Professional Employees says the
government loses tax revenue "that would have been generated by the sale of non–pirated goods."
The Motion Picture Association of America says that an estimated "$58 billion in economic output
is lost to the US economy annually due to copyright theft." This has a resounding effect on the jobs
needed to make films. Most of the workers in Hollywood are on average wages – even though their
services such as costume making, food preparing or assisting directors are all vital. If their films fail
to earn their budget back, their wages are cut, or even worse, they lose their job. Films aren't just
about the rich actors and lavish sets that appear on screen.

Modern Films : The Issue Of Marketing In Modern Film
The Issue of Marketing in Modern Film Sequels and remakes are currently the name of the game for
blockbuster movies. In 2017, seven of the top ten earning films are either remakes or sequels, so
clearly there is a good reason behind this trend. After all, entertainment companies are not being
paid for who is the most creative. Clearly it is a great business decision to stick with what is not
only the safest choice, but the one that will consistently bring in the most revenue for the producer.
The reason for the success of remakes and sequels is that all that the film producers have to do is
satisfy expectations for the film meaning if it is a title like Star Wars, practically everyone already
knows about the film and so now all that needs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This did not happen overnight, however. From the first Iron Man movie, Marvel had a plan. They
were going to create their film universe, and slowly expand the number of heroes that they include
in this film universe so that they could make more and more movies. By having these heroes come
together in their Avengers titles, they are able to bring a wide variety of fans to their biggest
blockbuster and have everyone's favorite stars come together on the screen. Before The Avengers
was released, Marvel had already produced Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Captain
America: The First Avenger, and Thor. In a few of these first movies, Marvel did something genius
by introducing this idea of the Avengers, thereby priming their audience for when Marvel would
eventually bring together all five of these movies into one cinematic experience. Essentially, Marvel
was marketing for their biggest blockbuster through their films, and this strategy had a 1.5–billion–
dollar payout. This idea of priming an audience does not have to happen over five related movie
titles and years of development. Priming an audience can be achieved through effective marketing.
Currently, Hollywood has not mastered their marketing, and it is for good reason. It is incredibly
difficult to get people excited about a new idea, and it is especially difficult to shatter opening
weekend records for a new title. It is clear there is a problem on the marketing side of

Film : Film Analysis Of The Sin City Film
The Sin City film was filmed by several directors led by Frank Miller. Robert Rodriguez and
Quentin Tarantino also took part in the work on the film. These two directors often collaborate
throughout their career, so this was not the first project they worked on in tandem. In this case, the
analysis of the directors' work should take into account the efforts of each of this triad because the
film comprises many elements of the author's style of each director. Like every provincial teenager
in America, Frank Miller adored comics since childhood. He moved to New York to work and
develop in the field of creating graphics. For some time Frank worked for such big companies as
Marvel and DC Comics, which gave him enough experience and skills to realize his own, unique
ideas. Later, "Miller re–read the old comics which had captivated his imagination as a child" (Pérez
275). The Sin City film is an adaptation of his eponymous graphic novel, which he created for
several years. For a long time, the director could not realize his plan and film his comic.
Nevertheless, he did not sell his author rights. Then he came to the aid of Robert Rodriguez, who
shot one of the trial fragments of the future film. "Sin City begins with a three–minute sequence
that is an aesthetic gem– arguably the finest segment of the film" (63). Miller was delighted with
what he saw, and they began to cooperate with Rodriguez. In turn, Rodriguez invited Quentin
Tarantino to take part in the shootings. Tarantino

Music Of Film And Film
Addition of Music in to Film When is the last time that we as an audience watched a film without
sound? What if the silent film was to make a resurgence, how would we, as a nation, respond? How
important has music within film become? Why does music affect us the way that it does? From the
beginning of film to today's digital formatting, music had been a stable part of entertainment and
used to suggest certain emotional responses on the audience and we haven't questioned it. Music is
an important part to film and without it, would make film less interesting. Film came around in the
late 1880's. It at that point was just still images being run in front of a light and projected on a
screen. This was done all without sound, save for the sound of the projector shuttering. Though
films were just pictures on a screen, it still moved audiences. "One could not only get lost in the
crowd, one could also get 'lost' in the images, which is one of the primary aims of the spectarorial
experience (Dixon, 9). They were not only moved by plain images, but also by the image of sound.
Audiences would react to the image of a gunshot or cannon fire by covering their ears. Audiences
still experienced sound even though there was none. This was through a process that was referred to
as the 'silent sound sense.' "This phenomenon, referred to as subception or subliminal auditive
perception by psychologist, was exploited by numerous makers of silent films, who peppered their

Descriptive Film
Great cinema is provocative.
Hey everyone. How is it going?
So what makes a great movie for you? Something probably with guns and action right? Some kind
of romantic comedy, maybe? Some sports movie from zero to hero? Why do we love these movies,
even if we know, they really aren't great movies... We love them because they evoke a feeling inside
of us. They are provocative.
The Oxford Dictionary states that, to be provocative is to cause anger or another strong reaction,
"Especially deliberately". If you think of provocative in terms of cinema many films instantly come
to mind, don't they? Timeless movies, movies that make you feel something, that make you want to
go out and change your life. Actor Russell Crowe once said that, "I want to make movies that pierce
people's hearts and touch them in some way, even if it's just for the night while they're in the
cinema; in that moment, I want to bring actual tears to their eyes and goosebumps to their skin."
Actors and directors alike strive to make provocative films because they understand that great
cinema is provocative. So what is it that makes a film provocative, and is it possible for a film that
once was provocative to lose it's effect over time.
Provocative films, such as Citizen Kane deal with issues of the time and demand a reaction from the
audience. The film, written and directed based on media giant of the time; William Randolph Hearst
aims to deal with issues such as gender equality, childhood innocence, and

Film Censorship
The influence of media on the individual is always the first concern when a new medium of
entertainment is introduced in society. Whether it be the idea that violent video games instill
aggression in its players, or that exposure to rap music inspires drug use, fear of media's influence
has plagued modern society as new technological advancements inundate Americans' lives
overwhelmingly often. This fear, however, is not limited to the current age of smartphones and
virtual reality headsets. When moving pictures first appeared in nickelodeon theaters across the
country in the early twentieth century, it was met with similar reactions. Many individuals believed
exposing the American public to questionable topics such as criminal activity and prostitution would
incite in the audience the desire to replicate the scenes depicted on screen. Among those advocating
on behalf of the moving picture were Charles Sprague–Smith and John Collier of the People's
Institute. They ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

legalized censorship would "stifle [...] the freedom of the (film) industry as a mirror of everyday

education in American society through the medium of film was inhibited by censorship from
external legislation, and from within the motion picture industry itself.
Firstly, public uproar over the the release of J.W. Griffiths's film The Birth of a Nation prompted
discussion of racial issues, and increased membership of civil rights organizations whilst resulting in
nationwide calls for state level censorship legislation. Demands for censorship of motion picture
content had been minimal until the 1915 release of The Birth of a Nation (Rosenbloom 309). The

considered to be a typical "criminals", but someone who could be a respected member of a

outspoken, strong character who stands up for herself. Christina is sexually assaulted by a police

everything behind for a better life in a new country who is repentantly raped by her boss. These
films portray the struggles that many women face. Portraying these issues is an improvement The
film Precious also describes the struggles that women face when it comes to looks. Women are told
from a very young age that the way they look reflects, who they are as human beings. Showing the
damage that beauty standards have on women is extremely important, especially in the age of
technology. Products such as Photoshop make the look that models have become even more

Film : The Influence Of Pop Culture In Film
"Pop culture is the new babylon, into which so much art and intellect now flow, it is our Imperial
Theatre, Supreme Temple of the Western eye. We live in the age of idols. The pagan past, never
dead, flames again in our mystic hierarchies of stardom." (Crowley & Heyer, 2011). Film began in
the 1890's, being under a minute long with no sound or colour, to what can now reach to three
hours. By early 1960's more than 90% of American homes had hold of TV's. (Rodman, 2012) The
motion picture camera and projector were two of the Industrial Revolution's new gadgets. Movies
and films are part of the mass media that able to drive the emotion, attitude and behaviour of people
negatively, where the originality of movies purpose is for basic entertainment, educate or provide
information to the public.
The influence of pop culture in film has made an impact and encountered concerns about potential
harms in connection with young audiences, through the false advertising of the ideal body image
and look, promoting under–age and unsafe sexuality, and the abuse of drugs and violence.
"Younger people, particularly teens, are much more likely to be impacted than older adults because
they are still developing and shaping their worldviews, since they are still being socialized
politically, they are more likely to absorb all sorts of influences, including influences from film."
(Guida, 2015) An average teen spends 11 hours a day on all sorts of platforms that include pop
culture, including film.

Léon: The Professional
Leon (Played by Jean Reno) is a professional hitman who works for a mob boss called Tony (Danny

His life is considerably changed when he befriends a twelve–year–old girl called Mathilda (Natalie

Film Genre Of Western Films
Over the past years Hollywood has produced a wide array of brilliant movies, appearing through a
variety of genres. However, for every generation there consistently exists a dominant movie trend
that encapsulates that culture, frequently making appearances on the big screen. Early on in
filmmaking history, western movies were one of the original major trending movie genres. Later, in
the 1970's, adventure was extraordinarily popular, then horror movies saw a significant rise toward
the 1980's. Each generation has its genre. As of recently, there is an observably massive surge in the
Sci–Fi/Action genres, particularly with teenagers and young men. More specifically, the rampant
growth in superhero movies, which obviously fits into modern culture's acclamation for action
centric science fiction films. Over the last decade superhero movies have surged in popularity,
becoming the most prominent film genre in history, because of its myriad of source material,
painless production, and devout fans. Throughout the last decade, both Marvel Studios and DC
Comics have release a grand total of thirty–eight superhero movies, from those two studios alone.
Numerous other lesser known studios have opted to cash in on modern culture's super hero craze.

Film Making (The Evolution of Film Industry)
The Film making is a word that has been living more than hundred years. Film making is carried by
many topics that give us the overall meaning of film making. From the importance of film making
many societies are influenced and built based on the film making. Many households are financially
built and based on the film making work. One of the most important topics that carry the meaning of
film making is the Evolution of Film Industry. The Evolution of Film Industry addresses us how the
film industry developed from the first movie till the movies we watch right now, how the evolution
of film industry affect our society through the years, and finally how the evolution of film industry
affect the economy of a society or a country. Now it is obvious the Evolution of Film Industry is
extremely important topic that carries magnificent information which film making built on from
hundred years till now.
Everyone is now aware how films are amazingly created by high quality of technology and cameras.
The history shows us how it was hard to make a film that lasts for couple of second. The history of
film was introduced the 1890s, motion picture cameras were invented and film production
companies began to be built and became an official job. Films in1890s were below a minute long
until 1927 because of the limited technology, and motion pictures were generated without sound and

Experimental Film And Experimental Films In The 1900s
In the beginning, films during 1900s mainly consisted on three genre styles such as documentary,
fiction and experimental. Firstly, documentary films provides factual information on the subject of
the film. Secondly, fiction films are usually based of literature especially short stories and novels,
that contains imaginary events and people. Lastly and most importantly to this essay, experimental
films are essentially avant–garde in which the film isn't required to tell a story. Moreover,
experimental Filmmaking for Dummies (Part 1): Why You Should Be Making Experimental Films
wrote, "Experimental film is difficult to define, not because its guidelines are so abstract or even
esoteric, but because it's such a wide–ranging genre that defining it almost defeats the purpose of the
genre itself." Hardy, R. (2014, November 04). Experimental Filmmaking for Dummies (Part 1):
Why You Should Be Making Experimental Films.
In 1962, French writer Chris Marker directed the experimental short film La Jetée. Primarily, La
Jetée follows the story of a prisoner who is forced into time travel experiments. Additionally, these
experiments are conducted by scientists to call past and the future in order to rescue of the present;

examples are The Hunger Games, Divergent and recently The Fifth Wave. All of the mentioned are

musical is the actor who portrays king George. So when you Chris George, a bi–racial man, as
George Washington we can't just get rid of the new image we have of a bi–racial being a president
of America. The goal for any show or movie should be to eliminate any distance between your
audience and your story. You don't need a white man in the middle of everything in order to be able
to relate to it. Every audience is different and uniquely diverse and that should be reflected in the
cast. Lin–Manuel Miranda describes Hamilton as being "A story of America then, told by America
now." America now has every shade, size and colour, and this is represented so well in Hamilton but
so little in popular films. We should showcase all the many ways we are similar and not different.
When you include diverse casting in a major project you help give a way, for the minorities of
society to reclaim their place, in society. A place that they don't necessarily feel like is theirs because

The genre of film, found footage, is looked down upon in today's society. Although the genre has a
large following, since some if its top movies are the infamously popular Paranormal Activity series.
Some believe the genre is taking the art away from making the movie and replacing it with jump
scares all from the view of a handheld camera. Others believe it is a new way to make films cheaply
and be able to still deliver the same amount of excitement or even more than your traditional film.
Found footage is always being criticized for all the movies seeming the same. Not as in the plots of
the movie are similar but the camera techniques and angles are relatively all the same. People are
able to guess when most of the jump scares are about to happen which ruins the scary and surprising
aspect of the film. The Paranormal Activity series, for example, is widely known and considered to
be some of the biggest movies in the genre today. They are also famous for all of their movies
having basically the same plot, setting, and storyline. The genre has gone from being well liked
among the public to becoming boring to watch because of the mass production of these found
footage films. The audiences are getting bored with all the ideas the directors of these films have
and are beginning to resort to other films. However, this was not the case earlier this decade. The
horror film industry was in a slump and the found footage genre helped to lift them out of this
slump. The quick

Misrepresentation In Film
Representation of Females in the Film Industry
Introduction
This work is to write about the position of women in the film industry. Women had played an
important role in the growth of film industry playing a range of roles. However, they have been
marginalized and sexualized over the years. This is evident with simplistic roles such as the "femme
fatele", which is a typical seductress who will ultimately end the life or career of the male lead.
Women Advancement in the Film Industry
Additionally, statistics prove that women have not progressed as much as men have in the industry.
In the past, females wouldn't't have dominant roles in the industry where as now we see an increase
in women popularity in the industry. Recently, there has been ... Show more content on

What makes a film director different from others directors is it his tone or his personality or maybe
his influences;it actually all of the above. The tone of most of this films are very dark, odd, and
gothic also clay like. The tone of music Tim always has a dark theme throughout all his films for
example Edward scissorhands and corpse bride. The way he shot and framed his film. The same goes
with his lighting.
The music that tim burton uses in most of his films are alway dark and mysterious also sad.For
example in the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory there a scene where willy wonka shut down the
factory where the music was happy to depressing. Also during the corpse bride when the character

Film Music : The Purpose Of Music In Film
Ennio Morricone once said, "Music in film must not just add emphasis but must give more body and
depth to the story, to the characters, to the language that the director has chosen. It must, therefore,
say all that the dialogue, images, effects etc., cannot say". (Peacock, R., 2001. The Art of Moving
Making. New Jersey: Prentice Hall). In the early years of film making the purpose of music was to
keep the audience from talking and to dull the sound of the noisy projector (Schaefer, H., Emotion
and the Film Scores: an empirical approach). Today's cinematic music serves a lot more purposes.
Film music have evolved from the harmoniums, pianos, drums and musical bells to meticulously
composed music–call scores. Scores are composed for a specific scene in a film. Its purpose is to
support the scene. Underscore is music that is heard and understood by the audience, but is not
heard by the characters; it is the background music. (Richards, M., 2013, April 21. Diegetic Music,
Non–Diegetic Music, and Source scoring). Source music, on the other hand, is incidental music that
is a part of a film scene: "This could be music playing from a radio in a bar, or music playing at a
shopping mall." The characters in the film are able to hear this music. (Film Music Explained:
underscores, original songs, and source music, 2017). Both underscoring and source music play
major roles in our understanding and enjoyment of a film. We can see the aesthetic of film music

Film Reflection
This summer has been an eye opener. Throughout this course, I have learned to look at films
through a new perspective. My new perspective will forever change how I look at films. Before this
class, I watched movies for their content as well as for entertainment and enjoyment. This summer, I
have learned that you must analyze films to fully appreciate the work. I will no longer watch films
for enjoyment, but I will watch them for all that they are worth. When watching films, my
perspective has changed, causing me to analyze the camera work elements, and how the film ties
into American life and culture.
Before this class, I never knew that there was so much work and detail put into producing films. The
camera work was put into these films for a specific reason, and when I realized this my thought
process changed. I realized that in many cases the camera work is what made the movie, not the
plot. Once, I had this understanding, I started to break down the camera work into the many
different elements that composed it. By doing so, I could fully appreciate and understand the
purpose of each element. The camera shot that is visible on screen was thoughtfully designed. The
type of shot used, whether it was a closeup, medium shot, American shot, or long shot had a
reasoning behind it. The director had to decide whether he wanted to focus on the character or
specific details about the character's actions or emotions as well as how much of the background to
feature. The usage of only

Spatial Horror
A movie is a series of images shown very rapidly one after another. Each frame is just a flat two–
dimensional image, yet with certain formal elements directors can create a sense of a three–
dimensional space. Some techniques utilized by filmmakers are the same as those painters' use;
things such as lighting, color, contrast, and shadows. Yet when the painting starts to move a whole
new world of spatial elements open up, giving a filmmaker many ways to bring a two–dimensional
image to life. The space created by such elements can be used to make the audience feel a certain
way about a scene or movie as a whole. In the Swedish horror film Let the Right One In there are
three scenes in which the vampire Eli murders people. The director Tomas Alfredson uses space
differently in each of these scenes, evoking different emotions in the audience each time and
escalating the horror sequentially as the film progresses. In the first, the audience is shown
everything; Alfredson uses a single take and a motionless camera in a wide angle to show the entire
attack. Secondly, the audience is taken around a small dimly lit house and is subjected to a jump
scare when Eli attacks her victim (I will be referring to Eli as "her" despite the fact that her gender is
left ambiguous). In the final murder scene, almost the entirety of the horror is done in an off–screen
space. In Let the Right One In the use of varying camera angles, sounds, lighting, and editing

Film Analysis Of The Film 'SinginIn The Rain'
"Singin' in the Rain" was a film released in 1952, and is a combination of a musical and a romantic
comedy. The film takes on a portrayal of 1920's Hollywood culture that is very easygoing and
cheerful. And as is the situation with most films that are regarded as classics, it originally received
very lukewarm reactions upon its initial release, but as time went on people began to notice and
appreciate its candor. Nowadays it's regarded as the greatest musical film ever made, and one of the
best films ever made period. In this critique I'm going to give my thoughts on the several different
aspects and themes of "Singin' in the Rain," to understand why it is as highly touted as it is. One of
the biggest reasons as to why "Singin' in the Rain" gets as much praise as it does is because
everything about the film is as equally charming as it is entertaining. And one of the biggest reasons
why its quality is so far above other musicals is because it's also able to remember that it's a film,
and not just a musical. These days it's very hard to find a musical film with a good screenplay
because the people behind the film put too much of the focus on the songs and the performances.
But "Singin' in the Rain" is able to make sure that not only is the musical aspect of the film great,
but that the film is also able to tell a genuinely good story. The film's screenplay takes on a story
that's clever and endearing, by showing the complicated and frustrating switch from silent films to
talking films, through the eyes of 3 performers. So in hindsight "Singin' in the Rain" is a musical
about musicals, as well as being a film about films. And that's why "Singin' in the Rain" is more
noteworthy and significant than all other musical films from an artistic standpoint. Obviously the
big talking point when it comes to "Singin' in the Rain" is the music, that's always been the focal
point and the heart of the film's charm. The actual performances within the film are nothing short of
an amazing achievement. A majority of the dance numbers seen in the film are long and are shot in a
complete single–take, which is a bold artistic choice that not only pays off but looks mightily
impressive as well. And although many of the actual songs

Industry in the world. Movies make billions and billions of dollars a year. At first movies was just
silent films. These films showed them doing scenes then they would have what the actor/actress said
with writing. Then they would put the words that the actress said on the screen. Then eventually
they had sound, but was still in black and white. Eventually color movies came out, but the picture
was ugly and was nowhere near the color movies today. Now they have movies that look like you
are there. The movies today pictures are the best they ever been. There are even 3D movies that look
like it actually coming out of the screen. When 3D movies first came out, the picture was horrible
and nobody liked them. The movies had these weird glasses, where one side had a blue lenses and
the other side had red lenses. Then James Cameron made the movie Avatar that completely change
the 3D movies. Today 3D movies still gave glasses, but they look like sunglasses. James Cameron is
even trying to make 3D movies that will not even need glasses. Now almost all movies being release
today now have a 3D movie version. Movies have been changing since they was invented. Movies

Film Production Of Film Films
The history of film began in the 1890s, when motion picture cameras were invented and film
production companies started to be established. Because of the limits of technology, films of the
1890s were under a minute long and until 1927 motion pictures were produced without sound. The
first decade of motion picture saw film moving from a novelty to an established large–scale
entertainment industry. The films became several minutes long consisting of several shots. The first
rotating camera for taking panning shots was built in 1897. The first film studios were built in 1897.
Special effects were introduced and film continuity, involving action moving from one sequence
into another, began to be used. In the 1900s, continuity of action across successive shots was
achieved and the first close–up shot was introduced . Most films of this period were what came to
be called "chase films". The first use of animation in movies was in 1899. The first feature length
multi–reel film was a 1906 Australian production. The first successful permanent theatre showing
only films was "The Nickelodeon" in Pittsburgh in 1905. By 1910, actors began to receive screen
credit for their roles, and the way to the creation of film stars was opened. Regular newsreels were
exhibited from 1910 and soon became a popular way for finding out the news. Overall, from about
1910, American films had the largest share of the market in Australia and in all European countries
except France.

Dichotomy In Film
Beginning at a very young age in our lives, the film industry influences the way in which each
individual interprets the actions that are taken by a character in a film. The constant portrayal of
what characteristics would best fit with defining what it is to be a hero, seem to focus mainly on
masculine traits. The desirable traits that are illustrated in the majority of the films are being
independent, strong, and most importantly a male. However, the film Maleficent (2014), contradicts
this idea. This film tells the story of Maleficent (Angelina Jolie), a young woman that has been
fooled into believing in true love. When the person she believed was her true love, removes her

This is due to the fact that females are portrayed as being fragile, emotional, and dependent. Disney
fairytales have a constant reoccurring theme in which the male character will save the princess from
an enchantment, with the idea that a kiss from a true love will eliminate the curse. According to Jack
Zipes, author of "Fairytales and the Art of Subversion" says that "the patriarchal notion is that all
women should remain comatose until then rescued by a prince." (Sneed) This proves that Disney
films focused on the dominance of male characters over the females. The princess was prone to
being more fragile and afraid of becoming independent. Even though the princess is the main
character in the Disney films, they are deprived of their ability to think and act for themselves,

Film Fil Film Noir: A Semiotic Analysis Of Film Noir
This paper posits that the media product of film noir produced by Hollywood between the 1940's
and 1950's exemplifies a Gramscian approach to ideological views of America's post war societal
expectations. Film noir, basing its content of crime, corruption, sex, and power found an acceptance
with American audiences who could relate directly to the tensions felt by the genre's cadre of
characters. As a result, the requirement for Gramsci's theory of ideology and popular culture exists
through the consent of audiences of film noir's themes and provides an example of a hegemonic
ideology that is won.
This paper will provide the reader with the social and cultural context in which film noir existed,
link Gramscian theory to its political economy production purpose, and include a semiotic analysis
of the complex themes and coding of film noir, specifically focusing on the use of female sexuality.
Let us first begin with defining film noir.

According to Hillis (2005), Hollywood's film noir genre of the 1940's and 1950's existed not only as
entertainment, but contained both thematic and ideological textures.
Thematically, film noir includes a wide range of plots with an integral protagonist, usually male,
seen as a police officer, detective, private investigator, unemployed drifter, or a law–abiding citizen
that are tricked or lured into crime. The male troubled hero is fighting the system, for money, and to
survive. He is seen often as a large than life, immoral, alienated, misogynistic loner working his way
through the dangers of urban cities (Borde and Chaumeton,

Change In Film
Film, being both visual and audible, has become a power source of art throughout its development.
In many cases, films are used as a way to promote social change. The 2000 X–Men film can be seen
as a cry for equality. A supernatural film about mutants versus humans sends an underlying message
about how people may not feel accepted or like they fit in just because they don't conform to
society. During the mid–1950s and early 1960s movies were used to express the desire to break free,
as a people, from the ideals of perfection and gender norms as America underwent a huge social
change that quickly became known as The Sexual Revolution. (Escoffier, Sexual Revolution). Films
such as Douglas Sirk's All That Heaven Allows (1955), Nicholas Ray's Rebel Without a ... Show

Then the pressures of society weigh down on her and cause her to go back on her feelings, which on
it's own conveys that if you want to be happy, you need to be your own person. Rebel Without a
Cause (1955) is about a troubled teenage boy that wants to find a purpose in life despite being
neglected by his parents and feeling as if he didn't belong in his society. This ultimately leads to a
tragic end for him and it sends the message that not being accepted isn't okay. Some Like It Hot
(1959) is about men who dress as women to escape thugs and the women they meet who march to
the beat of their own drum. This movie was heavily considered against the norm but was made
despite American film censorship's contempt. Men in women's clothing was extremely looked down
upon, which made this movie bold and inspirational to anyone who felt like they wanted to do or be
something or someone although it might be heavily frowned upon ("Some Like It Hot (1959)

History of Film
Plays and dances had elements common to films– scripts, sets, lighting, costumes, production,
direction, actors, audiences, storyboards, and scores. They preceded film by thousands of years.
Much terminology later used in film theory and criticism applied, such as mise en scène. Moving
visual images and sounds were not recorded for replaying as in film.
The camera obscura was pioneered by Alhazen in his Book of Optics (1021),[2][3][4] and was later
perfected near the year 1600 by Giambattista della Porta. Light is inverted through a small hole or
lens from outside, and projected onto a surface or screen, creating a projected moving image,
indistinguishable from a projected high quality film to an audience, but it is not preserved in a ...

After this date, the Edison company developed its own form of projector, as did various other
inventors. Some of these used different film widths and projection speeds, but after a few years the
35–mm wide Edison film, and the 16–frames–per–second projection speed of the Lumière
Cinématographe became standard. The other important American competitor was the American
Mutoscope & Biograph Company, which used a new camera designed by Dickson after he left the
Edison company. [8]
At the Chicago 1893 World 's Columbian Exposition, Muybridge gave a series of lectures on the
Science of Animal Locomotion in the Zoopraxographical Hall, built specially for that purpose in the
"Midway Plaisance" arm of the exposition. He used his zoopraxiscope to show his moving pictures

William Kennedy Laurie Dickson, chief engineer with the Edison Laboratories, is credited with the
invention of a practicable form of a celluloid strip containing a sequence of images, the basis of a
method of photographing and projecting moving images.[citation needed] Celluloid blocks were
thinly sliced, then removed with heated pressure plates. After this, they were coated with a
photosensitive gelatin emulsion.[citation needed] In 1893 at the Chicago World 's Fair, Thomas

The Influence Of Film In Citizen Kane : A Film Descriptive...
Provocative films, such as Citizen Kane deal with issues of the time and demand a reaction from the
audience. The film, written and directed based on media giant of the time; William Randolph Hearst
aims to deal with issues such as relationships, childhood innocence, and privacy. Like many people
in society, Kane's relationships always

The Diversity Of The Film Films
Diversity in films is important because representation matters. Viewers are drawn to shows with
ethnically diverse lead cast members. Mostly all viewers love to watch shows that reflect and relate
to their own experiences. Reddigari, a freelance writer, also expresses the question of why we lack
diversity in films. "Hollywood has been producing inspiring films intended to capture the beauty,
joy and sorrow in everyday life. As much as we love our favorite movies, we can't help but notice
that many of them fail to capture the life experiences of all moviegoers, leaving the voices of
millions of Americans from diverse backgrounds underrepresented" (This Tumblr Shows the
Startling Lack of Diversity in Film). Diversity in films is an important topic in society because it
represents equality and people of color to look up to.
People of all races enjoy a good film or tv show but, they sometimes are not being represented
equally. Representation matters because, it is important to teach the younger generations about their
race's worldview on what they find normal. Kenneth and Mamie Clark conducted a psychological
study where, "children were shown two dolls, one black and one white. They were asked to choose
which one they preferred, which one was 'bad' and which one was 'good.' The results were the same
across races: the children generally preferred the white doll and saw that doll as 'good'.... but it is
really no surprise if you look at the media these children are consuming"(The

The Difference Between Film And Film Analysis
The Distinction Between Films and Novels Even though films and novels are equally important to
society, novels are greatly underappreciated. A film is a set of actions recorded by a camera that
would later be processed into a story. On the other hand, a novel is a narrative book that represents
characters and actions that might or might not have realism in it. Major studios are making millions
off of movies that are watched by people across the world (Box Office Mojo, 2016), while book
publishers and writers are not making as much (Dennis, 2014). There are several distinctions
between novels and films, including the age of those interested, profit, how the advancement of
technology has affected both, and the benefits, all of which will be discussed in this essay.

It was straightforward in the past because the only way to make revenue was through ticket sales.
However, studios are looking for new methods of making revenue due to ticket sales not being the
only way anymore (Zipin, 2015). This results in movies making much more money than they used
to in the past, sometimes even going up to billions of dollars. In comparison, novels only make a
fraction of that amount, with the exception of certain franchises gaining sudden popularity for one
reason or another. There are four different categories of publishing a novel (aspiring, self–published
only, traditionally–published only, and hybrid). Roughly 90% of the authors that publish their work
to aspire people make 0$. The most paid category is hybrid, and only 6% of the 9,000 surveyed
authors were in that category, but also 5.7% of them only made 100,000$ (Abrams,2014). The
numbers written above are nowhere near the millions most of the films make. For this reason and
many others, books are not being appreciated like they are supposed

Film Noir Film Analysis
Film Noir is a style that first originated during the early 1940s, influenced by the tumultuous social
and political environment of World War II. These style of films was a subversion from the
conventional gangster films of the 1920s and 1930s. The resurgence of Noir style films in the 1970s
retained the themes of crime, vice and moral ambiguity, but updated the content due to the
relaxation of the Production Code. In this dissertation, the origins of film noir and its techniques will
be examined, with the films The Third Man (Carol Reed, 1949), and L.A Confidential (Curtis
Hanson, 1997) contrasted to highlight the impact of the Production Code. According to Paul
Schrader's "Notes on Film Noir" (1972), there are four catalysts that spawned the film noir style:
Post–war disillusionment, a desire for realism, Germanic influences and the "hardboiled" tradition1.
During World War II, the prominence of dark, brooding Film Noir was overpowered by the
American propaganda produced, but changed after the tragedy of World War II, as American
audiences accepted a less optimistic view of society. This desire for realism is highlighted by the
artificial optimism of previous films pre–World War II. Furthermore, The "hardboiled" narratives of
the 1930s influenced Film Noir through their "tough", defeatist attitude of characters who reside in a
cynical atmosphere. In terms of cinema, Film Noir borrows cinematic techniques and style from
German Expressionism, which refers to a film

Film Analysis Of The Film 'Blue Velvet'
The film "Blue Velvet" was written and directed by David Lynch in 1986. This movie was inspired
by Bobby Vinton's cover of the song "Blue Velvet" that was released in 1963. In the film, David
Lynch showed stylization through the opening and closing montages, as well as the ear of Denmark.
Another stylized moment seen within this film is through the odd connection between Booth and
Lincoln. Blue Velvet is a cult hit dealing with violence, sex, and kidnapping, all being glorified.
Within the movie, the camera zooms into the ear, which is significant within the film because it
starts Jeffery's shady journey. In the movie, it starts off showing viewers a blue velvet curtain.

The ending is almost exactly set up like the opening, with a viewing of a crosswalk, signifying that
things are "normal". "The happy closure is unconvincing when applying the "next day" template to
expect the memories and aftershocks of Frank's disease to be wiped out by his death", McBride said.
I disagree with this. The ending of the movie symbolized peace in my opinion. Despite the disease,
Jeffery put inside her and her conflicting facial expression, Dorothy can go back to living her
normal, American dream. The primal scene is focused on Jeffery coming of age. Many times
throughout the movie, sexualized scenes are shown. A specific scene was at the beginning of the
movie when Jeffery's dad begins to have a stroke while watering the grass. As he falls, the nozzle of
the garden hose is right where his crotch is. According to Professor McBride, "this is necessary for
the dog to continuously pound on him as it instinctively barks at and bites the streaming water." This
scene and set up shows how animalistic these attacks are. During this scene, a young child sees this
animalistic outbreak, which relates back to a Freudian assumption. Since this film has the Freudian
sensation right at the beginning, it makes it obvious that this film will be an erotic one. Something
else that was important in the primal scene was "Lynch first provides this child witnessing a

Film Review : Film Films

Historical Essay Documentary films have been applied to many movies over the course of time.
Even Hollywood people are making "documentary–films". But when a real documentary film maker
makes a documentary film, he wants to change people's attitude. There would be important
information that would make the audience think hard on what they have witnessed. So, people ask,
"what's the nature of a documentary film", "what subject does it have to deal with", and "what is it
doing to this day". Films in Canada and England can make great films but are ramify due to the
mainstreamed trend that they don't see the main point. It first started with Robert Flaherty in 1922.
Robert Flaherty, the explorer, captured man's relationship with the environment on his motion
picture camera. His film was a great success in the theatrical departments. Films including Grass,
Chang, Moana, Taboo, Man of Aran, Wedding of Palo, and others. All of these films had one thing
in common and it was that they showed man in a struggle to survive against nature. To better
understand these films, they were known as "romantic films". In today films, we must appeal to our
audiences through their emotions, as well as through their minds. Documentary films forms and
content are always changing. In the future we will see more personal tales, more synchronized
dialogue, and more attention to the person themselves. Film makers have an understanding of their
jobs and what is ahead of them. There will always

Stereotypes In Films

  • 1. Stereotypes In Films In today's films, perceptions of women haven't changed much. Nancy Signorielli has a case study that looked at popular films today and how young girls are portrayed in them. Signorieilli coded the top 25 films for girls 12–17 in 1995 to look for traits that the characters were portraying and the situations they were in. She found from her study that girls in these films were 20–30% more likely to be talking about romance, doing gender stereotyped chores, dating, talking about friends and clothes, on the phone, grooming, talking about the opposite sex, in class, shopping and working out. The men in these movies are 25% more likely to be working. In addition to looking at what these characters are doing, they also looked at the type of behavior they exhibit during the films. From the study they found that girls were 10–20% more likely to be honest, crying or whining, flirting, compromising, follow intuition, and be seductive as Signorielli found in her research. From this they found that the men were more intelligent, more threatening and intimidating, more hardworking, more risk taking, and use physical force more. From this study it can be seen that these negative perceptions of women are still similar to the period of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I chose to draw inspiration from these films because they all portray different stereotypes of girls in all of them. I chose films that were focused on teenagers because I felt that the age group is one I know well because I myself am part of it. I believe it's important to be able to focus on stereotypes of girls that impact my life and age group because not only is it something that I can connect to, but it is an important message for students who will view this ... • 2. Modern Film And Modern Films People argue that modern films are better than earlier films. It is argued that due to advances in film making and the film technology. Movies like House of Flying Daggers show that with great directing and usage of the modern–day technology that marvelous films can be made. This is not to dispute the fact that flims like Lifeboat and White Heat were not both fantastic in their own way. The films used the resources that they had to their advantages and made unbelievable films. Despite the greatness of early films, a modern film with both great cinematography, directing, and plot line are better than an early film with those same components. Modern films like House of Flying Daggers are the best kind of films that can be made. House of Flying Daggers is an incredible action–packed love story with various plot twists that kept the viewer both entertained and on the edge of their seat. This is also one of the most visually appealing films of all time. Its usage of beautiful outfits and the cinematographer's ability to shoot the beauty of nature make this a wonderful movie to watch. A film that is both visually appealing and possess a good solid plot line are the best films that can be created. To start off, the usage of color that is used in House of Flying Daggers is just remarkable. The scene where the characters are in the bamboo forest really stuck out to me. All the green that was shown really was mesmerizing. Also, when Mei would dance I found her dresses to be just ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Film Analysis Of The Film Thor : Ragnorak Marvel Industries are known for their well made comics, but more importantly, their movies. Almost every single trailer they release becomes viral, having millions of views worldwide. People say that the trailer's does an exceptional job in hyping up the movie, gaining the public's curiosity through the trailers they release. Still, we need to ask ourselves, "How?" How does this company do so well in making their movies look so intriguing, yet not revealing the whole movie to the public? By analyzing the trailer for the very anticipated fantasy/science fiction film Thor: Ragnorak, we can see that this trailer is successful in rousing the viewers curiosity for this film by implementing the various types of camera angle shots they use in the trailer, such as close–ups on certain characters, which shows that they might be important in the movie, and the numerous amounts of color they use in certain environments to establish a type of theme that will be prominent throughout the movie to come. In every single Thor movie to date, they make Thor look like an invincible, strong and powerful god. They do this by having the camera angles shot lower or under Thor, making him look down on us. By doing this, it gives him that superior look and feel to him. Moreover, in Thor: Ragnorak, they seem to have changed this up a bit by showing what seems to be the main antagonist in the trailer, as more powerful than everyone. • 4. The Film Skyfall : Film Analysis Of A Film Noire "It has always been easier to recognize a film noir than to define the term" (Naremore 1995). This is an accurate statement which pertains to the difficulty of forming an adequate description for film noir. Although it may not be easy to describe, it is easier to point out the typical characteristics of noir films. Noir films are notorious for their dark, pessimistic, and corrupt moods as well as for crime and ambiguity. Based on noir characteristics, the film Skyfall is a film noir. Skyfall is a fairly recent film that came out in 2012. The film was directed by Sam Mendes and was produced by Eon Productions. The basis of the film is that James Bond resolves to come out of retirement to help M and the M16 after both have been compromised and come under attack. Bond must stop a foe from M's past who resurfaces to settle a vendetta. This movie is important because even though it is a modern film, it depicts how characteristics of film noir continue to live on and evolve in newer films. This film presents many of the typical noir cinematic elements. Skyfall makes use of smoke, fog, and dust in many of the scenes to add an obscuring affect. The use of smoke can be seen at 1:41:49–1:42:05 where Bond shoots at the fire extinguisher which fills the room with smoke. This all occurs while M is being attacked by Raoul Silva during a public inquiry. Another noir cinematic element is the use of lighting to produce shadows. A great example of this occurs at 1:37:15–1:37:25 where Bond ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Importance Of Film And Film The importance of film and the movies that collectively tell history is easily overlooked during ones search for entertainment. Sometimes movies persuade the viewer without them noticing, and then sometimes it's just obvious. During WWII, the film industry was still young, however, they were growing quickly. Hollywood was making an impression as soon as possible, and with the war just starting nearly 15 years after, Hollywood was able to expand onto that front. From persuading viewers, to being labeled as "propaganda", the film industry made an impact on World War 2. It's hard to tell which films made an impact on history and give them proper credit, however, M. Todd Bennett goes about his book by telling history through media and film observations. One World, Big Screen is an analysis of movies, actors, politicians, and the media in general during World War 2. i have dyslexia Bennett goes about the book not just as a top 10 list for historical movies, but as a collection of historical references regarding films imprint on World War 2. During WWII, the film industry was still young, however, they were growing quickly. Hollywood during World War 2 was just being born. • 6. Film Analysis : Movie, Film, And Films Background As a medium, films act as a very effective medium to share the stories and affecting people's life. Since ancient times, the stage has been utilized to tell stories. When the motion picture was invented in the 19th century, it instantaneously captivates the world. Films have the power to hypnotize, bringing its viewer to certain realms. With its power to subdue its subject, film becomes a vocal tool to get inside people's mind. Just like literature, film also creates and promotes cultures. • 7. Film Analysis : ' Movie ' Of A Film ' For anyone who has ever watched a film is a critic in some form. They judge various aspects based on personal feelings or attitudes, then state them for anybody to hear. I, the writer, am guilty of this type of film analysis. I based my 'review' of a film solely on how I felt the narrative evolved or how well the acting was done. I never considered why the rhetor of film choose certain details or what might have influenced the rhetor in the first place. However, through this course I was exposed to two academic ways of analyzing films, contextually and descriptively. Contextual analysis of a film uses the events surrounding the film's production or release and the audiences' response to the film to develop an understanding of the film. Descriptive analysis of a film uses details from the film or the rhetor's specific choices to decipher what the underlying massage the film was attempting to portray. In this paper, I will describe the two ways of academically analyzing film, contextually and descriptively, and how using both styles for the same film is the only way to fully comprehend the film. The first way to analyze a film in an academic fashion is through contextual analysis. This method of analysis is reliant on the concept of time. "The key point is that all rhetoric is presented at a specific time and place and cannot be understood apart from that time and place." (Rowland, 2002, p.35). For each time and place, there is differing contexts that will shape the way the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Music and Film Since I've been studying hard all day, I didn't really have time to post something. Well I would if I wasn't watching Schindler's List again, but when the mood strikes, one should watch that film. So here is an essay that I wrote a couple of months ago for school, which is all about film piracy and why I'm against it. The essay managed to get an extremely high excellence. See how different my writing is when I'm at school compared to when I'm blogging (if I seem to be over–exaggerating a lot this is because I'm just trying to get my point across, as I am supposed to be writing this essay for a 'school magazine'): In 1927, the first sound movie, called The Jazz Singer, was made. After years of silence on film, finally someone had ... Envisonal states that 23.76% of global internet traffic is used for infringing content. With the internet's continual rapid growth, these numbers are set to get bigger – eventuating in a criminal act such as piracy becoming the biggest user of the internet. People are under the impression that downloading/watching a pirated film on the internet is harmless, when it is really theft. What these people fail to realise is that film–making accounts for over 2.4 million jobs in the US, and is a major contributor to the global economy. The film industry isn't the only one that loses money to piracy, as the Department for Professional Employees says the government loses tax revenue "that would have been generated by the sale of non–pirated goods." The Motion Picture Association of America says that an estimated "$58 billion in economic output is lost to the US economy annually due to copyright theft." This has a resounding effect on the jobs needed to make films. Most of the workers in Hollywood are on average wages – even though their services such as costume making, food preparing or assisting directors are all vital. If their films fail to earn their budget back, their wages are cut, or even worse, they lose their job. Films aren't just about the rich actors and lavish sets that appear on screen. ... • 9. Modern Films : The Issue Of Marketing In Modern Film The Issue of Marketing in Modern Film Sequels and remakes are currently the name of the game for blockbuster movies. In 2017, seven of the top ten earning films are either remakes or sequels, so clearly there is a good reason behind this trend. After all, entertainment companies are not being paid for who is the most creative. Clearly it is a great business decision to stick with what is not only the safest choice, but the one that will consistently bring in the most revenue for the producer. The reason for the success of remakes and sequels is that all that the film producers have to do is satisfy expectations for the film meaning if it is a title like Star Wars, practically everyone already knows about the film and so now all that needs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This did not happen overnight, however. From the first Iron Man movie, Marvel had a plan. They were going to create their film universe, and slowly expand the number of heroes that they include in this film universe so that they could make more and more movies. By having these heroes come together in their Avengers titles, they are able to bring a wide variety of fans to their biggest blockbuster and have everyone's favorite stars come together on the screen. Before The Avengers was released, Marvel had already produced Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Captain America: The First Avenger, and Thor. In a few of these first movies, Marvel did something genius by introducing this idea of the Avengers, thereby priming their audience for when Marvel would eventually bring together all five of these movies into one cinematic experience. Essentially, Marvel was marketing for their biggest blockbuster through their films, and this strategy had a 1.5–billion– dollar payout. This idea of priming an audience does not have to happen over five related movie titles and years of development. Priming an audience can be achieved through effective marketing. Currently, Hollywood has not mastered their marketing, and it is for good reason. It is incredibly difficult to get people excited about a new idea, and it is especially difficult to shatter opening weekend records for a new title. • 10. Film : Film Analysis Of The Sin City Film The Sin City film was filmed by several directors led by Frank Miller. Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino also took part in the work on the film. These two directors often collaborate throughout their career, so this was not the first project they worked on in tandem. In this case, the analysis of the directors' work should take into account the efforts of each of this triad because the film comprises many elements of the author's style of each director. Like every provincial teenager in America, Frank Miller adored comics since childhood. He moved to New York to work and develop in the field of creating graphics. For some time Frank worked for such big companies as Marvel and DC Comics, which gave him enough experience and skills to realize his own, unique ideas. Later, "Miller re–read the old comics which had captivated his imagination as a child" (Pérez 275). The Sin City film is an adaptation of his eponymous graphic novel, which he created for several years. For a long time, the director could not realize his plan and film his comic. Nevertheless, he did not sell his author rights. Then he came to the aid of Robert Rodriguez, who shot one of the trial fragments of the future film. "Sin City begins with a three–minute sequence that is an aesthetic gem– arguably the finest segment of the film" (63). Miller was delighted with what he saw, and they began to cooperate with Rodriguez. In turn, Rodriguez invited Quentin Tarantino to take part in the shootings. Tarantino ... • 11. Music Of Film And Film Addition of Music in to Film When is the last time that we as an audience watched a film without sound? What if the silent film was to make a resurgence, how would we, as a nation, respond? How important has music within film become? Why does music affect us the way that it does? From the beginning of film to today's digital formatting, music had been a stable part of entertainment and used to suggest certain emotional responses on the audience and we haven't questioned it. Music is an important part to film and without it, would make film less interesting. Film came around in the late 1880's. It at that point was just still images being run in front of a light and projected on a screen. This was done all without sound, save for the sound of the projector shuttering. Though films were just pictures on a screen, it still moved audiences. "One could not only get lost in the crowd, one could also get 'lost' in the images, which is one of the primary aims of the spectarorial experience (Dixon, 9). They were not only moved by plain images, but also by the image of sound. Audiences would react to the image of a gunshot or cannon fire by covering their ears. Audiences still experienced sound even though there was none. This was through a process that was referred to as the 'silent sound sense.' "This phenomenon, referred to as subception or subliminal auditive perception by psychologist, was exploited by numerous makers of silent films, who peppered their products with visual ... • 12. Descriptive Film Great cinema is provocative. Hey everyone. How is it going? So what makes a great movie for you? Something probably with guns and action right? Some kind of romantic comedy, maybe? Some sports movie from zero to hero? Why do we love these movies, even if we know, they really aren't great movies... We love them because they evoke a feeling inside of us. They are provocative. The Oxford Dictionary states that, to be provocative is to cause anger or another strong reaction, "Especially deliberately". If you think of provocative in terms of cinema many films instantly come to mind, don't they? Timeless movies, movies that make you feel something, that make you want to go out and change your life. Actor Russell Crowe once said that, "I want to make movies that pierce people's hearts and touch them in some way, even if it's just for the night while they're in the cinema; in that moment, I want to bring actual tears to their eyes and goosebumps to their skin." Actors and directors alike strive to make provocative films because they understand that great cinema is provocative. So what is it that makes a film provocative, and is it possible for a film that once was provocative to lose it's effect over time. Provocative films, such as Citizen Kane deal with issues of the time and demand a reaction from the audience. • 13. Film Censorship The influence of media on the individual is always the first concern when a new medium of entertainment is introduced in society. Whether it be the idea that violent video games instill aggression in its players, or that exposure to rap music inspires drug use, fear of media's influence has plagued modern society as new technological advancements inundate Americans' lives overwhelmingly often. This fear, however, is not limited to the current age of smartphones and virtual reality headsets. When moving pictures first appeared in nickelodeon theaters across the country in the early twentieth century, it was met with similar reactions. Many individuals believed exposing the American public to questionable topics such as criminal activity and prostitution would incite in the audience the desire to replicate the scenes depicted on screen. Others believe it is a new way to make films cheaply and be able to still deliver the same amount of excitement or even more than your traditional film. Found footage is always being criticized for all the movies seeming the same. Not as in the plots of the movie are similar but the camera techniques and angles are relatively all the same. People are able to guess when most of the jump scares are about to happen which ruins the scary and surprising aspect of the film. The Paranormal Activity series, for example, is widely known and considered to be some of the biggest movies in the genre today. Film Music : The Purpose Of Music In Film Ennio Morricone once said, "Music in film must not just add emphasis but must give more body and depth to the story, to the characters, to the language that the director has chosen. It must, therefore, say all that the dialogue, images, effects etc., cannot say". (Peacock, R., 2001. The Art of Moving Making. New Jersey: Prentice Hall). In the early years of film making the purpose of music was to keep the audience from talking and to dull the sound of the noisy projector (Schaefer, H., Emotion and the Film Scores: an empirical approach). Today's cinematic music serves a lot more purposes. Film music have evolved from the harmoniums, pianos, drums and musical bells to meticulously composed music–call scores. Scores are composed for a specific scene in a film. Its purpose is to support the scene. Underscore is music that is heard and understood by the audience, but is not heard by the characters; it is the background music. (Richards, M., 2013, April 21. Source music, on the other hand, is incidental music that is a part of a film scene: "This could be music playing from a radio in a bar, or music playing at a shopping mall." This summer, I have learned that you must analyze films to fully appreciate the work. I will no longer watch films for enjoyment, but I will watch them for all that they are worth. When watching films, my perspective has changed, causing me to analyze the camera work elements, and how the film ties into American life and culture. Before this class, I never knew that there was so much work and detail put into producing films. The camera work was put into these films for a specific reason, and when I realized this my thought process changed. I realized that in many cases the camera work is what made the movie, not the plot. Once, I had this understanding, I started to break down the camera work into the many different elements that composed it. By doing so, I could fully appreciate and understand the purpose of each element. The camera shot that is visible on screen was thoughtfully designed. The type of shot used, whether it was a closeup, medium shot, American shot, or long shot had a reasoning behind it. The director had to decide whether he wanted to focus on the character or specific details about the character's actions or emotions as well as how much of the background to feature. • 26. Film Analysis : ' The Film ' Spatial Horror A movie is a series of images shown very rapidly one after another. Each frame is just a flat two– dimensional image, yet with certain formal elements directors can create a sense of a three– dimensional space. Some techniques utilized by filmmakers are the same as those painters' use; things such as lighting, color, contrast, and shadows. Yet when the painting starts to move a whole new world of spatial elements open up, giving a filmmaker many ways to bring a two–dimensional image to life. The space created by such elements can be used to make the audience feel a certain way about a scene or movie as a whole. In the Swedish horror film Let the Right One In there are three scenes in which the vampire Eli murders people. The director Tomas Alfredson uses space differently in each of these scenes, evoking different emotions in the audience each time and escalating the horror sequentially as the film progresses. In the first, the audience is shown everything; Alfredson uses a single take and a motionless camera in a wide angle to show the entire attack. Secondly, the audience is taken around a small dimly lit house and is subjected to a jump scare when Eli attacks her victim (I will be referring to Eli as "her" despite the fact that her gender is left ambiguous). In the final murder scene, almost the entirety of the horror is done in an off–screen space. • 27. Film Analysis Of The Film 'SinginIn The Rain' "Singin' in the Rain" was a film released in 1952, and is a combination of a musical and a romantic comedy. The film takes on a portrayal of 1920's Hollywood culture that is very easygoing and cheerful. And as is the situation with most films that are regarded as classics, it originally received very lukewarm reactions upon its initial release, but as time went on people began to notice and appreciate its candor. Nowadays it's regarded as the greatest musical film ever made, and one of the best films ever made period. In this critique I'm going to give my thoughts on the several different aspects and themes of "Singin' in the Rain," to understand why it is as highly touted as it is. One of the biggest reasons as to why "Singin' in the Rain" gets as much praise as it does is because everything about the film is as equally charming as it is entertaining. And one of the biggest reasons why its quality is so far above other musicals is because it's also able to remember that it's a film, and not just a musical. These days it's very hard to find a musical film with a good screenplay because the people behind the film put too much of the focus on the songs and the performances. But "Singin' in the Rain" is able to make sure that not only is the musical aspect of the film great, but that the film is also able to tell a genuinely good story. The film's screenplay takes on a story that's clever and endearing, by showing the complicated and frustrating switch from silent films to talking films, through the eyes of 3 performers. So in hindsight "Singin' in the Rain" is a musical about musicals, as well as being a film about films. And that's why "Singin' in the Rain" is more noteworthy and significant than all other musical films from an artistic standpoint. Obviously the big talking point when it comes to "Singin' in the Rain" is the music, that's always been the focal point and the heart of the film's charm. The actual performances within the film are nothing short of an amazing achievement. A majority of the dance numbers seen in the film are long and are shot in a complete single–take, which is a bold artistic choice that not only pays off but looks mightily impressive as well. The first decade of motion picture saw film moving from a novelty to an established large–scale entertainment industry. The films became several minutes long consisting of several shots. Film noir, basing its content of crime, corruption, sex, and power found an acceptance with American audiences who could relate directly to the tensions felt by the genre's cadre of characters. As a result, the requirement for Gramsci's theory of ideology and popular culture exists through the consent of audiences of film noir's themes and provides an example of a hegemonic ideology that is won. Moving visual images and sounds were not recorded for replaying as in film. The camera obscura was pioneered by Alhazen in his Book of Optics (1021),[2][3][4] and was later perfected near the year 1600 by Giambattista della Porta. Light is inverted through a small hole or lens from outside, and projected onto a surface or screen, creating a projected moving image, indistinguishable from a projected high quality film to an audience, but it is not preserved in a ... Some of these used different film widths and projection speeds, but after a few years the 35–mm wide Edison film, and the 16–frames–per–second projection speed of the Lumière Cinématographe became standard. The other important American competitor was the American Mutoscope & Biograph Company, which used a new camera designed by Dickson after he left the Edison company. [8] At the Chicago 1893 World 's Columbian Exposition, Muybridge gave a series of lectures on the Science of Animal Locomotion in the Zoopraxographical Hall, built specially for that purpose in the "Midway Plaisance" arm of the exposition. He used his zoopraxiscope to show his moving pictures to a paying public, making the Hall the very first commercial movie theater.[5] William Kennedy Laurie Dickson, chief engineer with the Edison Laboratories, is credited with the invention of a practicable form of a celluloid strip containing a sequence of images, the basis of a method of photographing and projecting moving images.[citation needed] Celluloid blocks were thinly sliced, then removed with heated pressure plates. After this, they were coated with a photosensitive gelatin emulsion.[citation needed] In 1893 at the Chicago World 's Fair, Thomas Edison introduced to the public two pioneering inventions based on this innovation; the Kinetograph – ... • 34. The Influence Of Film In Citizen Kane : A Film Descriptive... The film, written and directed based on media giant of the time; William Randolph Hearst aims to deal with issues such as relationships, childhood innocence, and privacy. • 35. The Diversity Of The Film Films Diversity in films is important because representation matters. Viewers are drawn to shows with ethnically diverse lead cast members. Mostly all viewers love to watch shows that reflect and relate to their own experiences. Reddigari, a freelance writer, also expresses the question of why we lack diversity in films. "Hollywood has been producing inspiring films intended to capture the beauty, joy and sorrow in everyday life. As much as we love our favorite movies, we can't help but notice that many of them fail to capture the life experiences of all moviegoers, leaving the voices of millions of Americans from diverse backgrounds underrepresented" (This Tumblr Shows the Startling Lack of Diversity in Film). Diversity in films is an important topic in society because it represents equality and people of color to look up to. People of all races enjoy a good film or tv show but, they sometimes are not being represented equally. Representation matters because, it is important to teach the younger generations about their race's worldview on what they find normal. Kenneth and Mamie Clark conducted a psychological study where, "children were shown two dolls, one black and one white. They were asked to choose which one they preferred, which one was 'bad' and which one was 'good.' The results were the same across races: the children generally preferred the white doll and saw that doll as 'good'.... but it is really no surprise if you look at the media these children are consuming"(The ... • 36. The Difference Between Film And Film Analysis The Distinction Between Films and Novels Even though films and novels are equally important to society, novels are greatly underappreciated. A film is a set of actions recorded by a camera that would later be processed into a story. On the other hand, a novel is a narrative book that represents characters and actions that might or might not have realism in it. Major studios are making millions off of movies that are watched by people across the world (Box Office Mojo, 2016), while book publishers and writers are not making as much (Dennis, 2014). There are several distinctions between novels and films, including the age of those interested, profit, how the advancement of technology has affected both, and the benefits, all of which will be discussed in this essay. The number of people reading on board an airplane compared to the number of people watching movies is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was straightforward in the past because the only way to make revenue was through ticket sales. However, studios are looking for new methods of making revenue due to ticket sales not being the only way anymore (Zipin, 2015). This results in movies making much more money than they used to in the past, sometimes even going up to billions of dollars. In comparison, novels only make a fraction of that amount, with the exception of certain franchises gaining sudden popularity for one reason or another. There are four different categories of publishing a novel (aspiring, self–published only, traditionally–published only, and hybrid). Roughly 90% of the authors that publish their work to aspire people make 0$. The most paid category is hybrid, and only 6% of the 9,000 surveyed authors were in that category, but also 5.7% of them only made 100,000$ (Abrams,2014). The numbers written above are nowhere near the millions most of the films make. For this reason and many others, books are not being appreciated like they are supposed ... • 37. Film Noir Film Analysis Film Noir is a style that first originated during the early 1940s, influenced by the tumultuous social and political environment of World War II. These style of films was a subversion from the conventional gangster films of the 1920s and 1930s. The resurgence of Noir style films in the 1970s retained the themes of crime, vice and moral ambiguity, but updated the content due to the relaxation of the Production Code. In this dissertation, the origins of film noir and its techniques will be examined, with the films The Third Man (Carol Reed, 1949), and L.A Confidential (Curtis Hanson, 1997) contrasted to highlight the impact of the Production Code. According to Paul Schrader's "Notes on Film Noir" (1972), there are four catalysts that spawned the film noir style: Post–war disillusionment, a desire for realism, Germanic influences and the "hardboiled" tradition1. During World War II, the prominence of dark, brooding Film Noir was overpowered by the American propaganda produced, but changed after the tragedy of World War II, as American audiences accepted a less optimistic view of society. This desire for realism is highlighted by the artificial optimism of previous films pre–World War II. Furthermore, The "hardboiled" narratives of the 1930s influenced Film Noir through their "tough", defeatist attitude of characters who reside in a cynical atmosphere. In terms of cinema, Film Noir borrows cinematic techniques and style from German Expressionism, which refers to a film ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Film Analysis Of The Film 'Blue Velvet' The film "Blue Velvet" was written and directed by David Lynch in 1986. This movie was inspired by Bobby Vinton's cover of the song "Blue Velvet" that was released in 1963. In the film, David Lynch showed stylization through the opening and closing montages, as well as the ear of Denmark. Another stylized moment seen within this film is through the odd connection between Booth and Lincoln. Blue Velvet is a cult hit dealing with violence, sex, and kidnapping, all being glorified. Within the movie, the camera zooms into the ear, which is significant within the film because it starts Jeffery's shady journey. In the movie, it starts off showing viewers a blue velvet curtain. According to page one of the Stylized moments chapter, this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The ending is almost exactly set up like the opening, with a viewing of a crosswalk, signifying that things are "normal". "The happy closure is unconvincing when applying the "next day" template to expect the memories and aftershocks of Frank's disease to be wiped out by his death", McBride said. I disagree with this. The ending of the movie symbolized peace in my opinion. Despite the disease, Jeffery put inside her and her conflicting facial expression, Dorothy can go back to living her normal, American dream. The primal scene is focused on Jeffery coming of age. Many times throughout the movie, sexualized scenes are shown. A specific scene was at the beginning of the movie when Jeffery's dad begins to have a stroke while watering the grass. As he falls, the nozzle of the garden hose is right where his crotch is. According to Professor McBride, "this is necessary for the dog to continuously pound on him as it instinctively barks at and bites the streaming water." This scene and set up shows how animalistic these attacks are. During this scene, a young child sees this animalistic outbreak, which relates back to a Freudian assumption. Since this film has the Freudian sensation right at the beginning, it makes it obvious that this film will be an erotic one. Something else that was important in the primal scene was "Lynch first provides this child witnessing a perplexing violent attack as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Film Review : Film Films Vinh Tran Historical Essay Documentary films have been applied to many movies over the course of time. Even Hollywood people are making "documentary–films". But when a real documentary film maker makes a documentary film, he wants to change people's attitude. There would be important information that would make the audience think hard on what they have witnessed. So, people ask, "what's the nature of a documentary film", "what subject does it have to deal with", and "what is it doing to this day". Films in Canada and England can make great films but are ramify due to the mainstreamed trend that they don't see the main point. It first started with Robert Flaherty in 1922. Robert Flaherty, the explorer, captured man's relationship with the environment on his motion picture camera. His film was a great success in the theatrical departments. Films including Grass, Chang, Moana, Taboo, Man of Aran, Wedding of Palo, and others. All of these films had one thing in common and it was that they showed man in a struggle to survive against nature. To better understand these films, they were known as "romantic films". In today films, we must appeal to our audiences through their emotions, as well as through their minds. Documentary films forms and content are always changing. In the future we will see more personal tales, more synchronized dialogue, and more attention to the person themselves. Film makers have an understanding of their jobs and what is ahead of them.
