They wrote and produced the album themselves, allowing them to include more personal experiences and individual style compared to previous albums. They expect some fans may not like the change in sound without the band but hope new listeners will also enjoy the album. The album has an upbeat danceable sound compared to their previous albums and includes songs not focused on relationships. Emma Rose discusses new solo album and style secrets
1. Interview Questions
1. You have a new album coming out, what can your fans expect from this
album?
Well I think it’s a lot different from my different album because this is my first solo
album and I don’t have my band with me. Also this is totally written from my
perspective whereas before it would have had to suit my bands style as well but now
it’s completely up to me what I want the song to sound like. It was scary at first with
the individuality but eventually I started to like it because all the songs were about
things that I have experienced so when I sing them I feel really passionate about the
lyrics. Before the experience may have been about one of my band mates and I may
have never been in that kind of situation before.
2. Do you expect more people to start listening to your music after they
hear this album?
I can’t say that I expect to see more people listening to my music. I suppose I might
gain some fans and might lose some but my true fans are always going to be the
ones who have listened to my music since day one. I suppose I’ll have to accept the
ones that hadn’t heard of me until now and actually like my old music as well
(laughs). I don’t know, I suppose because I’m a solo artist now and I don’t need my
brothers band to back me up, music stations and channels might actually start taking
me seriously so hopefully I will have a bigger fan base. What artist doesn’t want a
bigger fan base tough? Am I right?
3. Would you say that this album doesn’t sound like your previous albums?
Yes I would definitely say that. Firstly and most obviously because it’s my first solo
album so my brothers band aren’t going to be playing in the background. Also on this
album I don’t have many slow songs. I even have a song called “Slow Down” which is
really ironic seeing as its quite upbeat! Yeah basically a lot of my songs you can
dance to and there’s quite a few that aren’t actually about relationship experiences
and are just directed straight to my fans.
4. What is your favourite track on your new album and why?
I really like “Music Feels Better” because it’s about how music can really change how
much you enjoy depending on who you’re with. Say if you were in a really bad mood
and someone played a really upbeat song that would probably make you feel even
worse. I also like “Intuition” because that’s really a message to my fans to tell them
to follow their intuition. I did and it does a lot of good!
2. 5. When you were growing up, did you always want to be star?
No not at all! I might have wanted to be a dancer at some points in my life but never
did I think I would be a singer! My mum told me I was always singing and dancing
about the house and to be honest I still do! It’s just nobody knows about it because I
don’t do it when there are others in the house. I have seen some old home videos
and I have to say I was really serious about my performance! I was only four but I
had some good moves! (Laughs)
6. Is there a message you want your fans to take from your album?
There isn’t one message in particular because all the song lyrics are completely
different so they all have a completely different message. I suppose if you want to be
a star…… Actually scrap that! If you have any dream at all keep going because you
will get there eventually!
7. Is there any particular artist you’re interested in at the moment?
Yes of course! I really like Selena Gomez because she is just like me really so that’s
inspiring to know I’m not the only one having left a band to go solo. I’ve met her as
well and she’s so lovely! She’s really down to earth and after you spend a bit of time
talking to her you forget that she’s a really big star. Also her best friend, Taylor! Yes
I’m talking about the amazing Taylor Swift! I haven’t been lucky enough to meet her
yet but her songs are so amazing- all of them! Whatever relationship situation
you’ve been in I’m sure she has probably written the perfect song to go with it. She
makes it so much harder for the rest of us to write about our experiences because
she has beaten everyone to it!
8. And finally, could you tell us your style secrets for this month?
Style secrets? Wow that’s nice knowing that people like my style! Well as its getting
colder I like to wrap up warm but I like to keep it stylish still so I use pretty scarves.
Not the big thick woollen types just the ones that look pretty. It’s not really a secret
as I’m wearing one every day at the moment!
