Reflective Essay On Learning Styles
Learning is obtaining skills through knowledge, study, or by teaching. Learning styles refers to a
system of collecting, processing, interpreting, arranging and thinking about information. Learning
takes place in different forms like Read & Write comprehends through reading and writing by taking
notes, Aural listens to information by hearing and speaking, Visual learns through visualizing of
objects to understand, Kinesthetic is hands on learning experience, and Multimodal is study via
several diverse modes of learning.
Looking at these learning styles, I am a Multimodal learner according to my VARK result test. With
several methods of learning, this employs diverse ways to help me memorize and understand what
I've learned much better by changing between different learning styles that any teacher might use to
teach because, I like numerous ways of absorbing information.
As a read and write learner, I like taking notes in class and I read over these notes or copy them out.
I take my time to study at my own pace and in a quiet environment, I love studying ahead of time to
gather and collect all the information needed to understand and also learn a new task to achieve new
skills I require. When I'm listening to a lecture for instance, I like to take notes, make bullet points
for my reading, and I also turn illustrations into words and check the dictionary for word meanings
for me to understand when I study. I check out information in library, textbooks and handouts for

The Kolb 's Learning Styles Model
The Kolb's Learning Styles model can help teachers to realize that students have different
approaches to gaining knowledge. To address such a diverse group, teachers should provide learning
objectives in many different ways to ensure that all learning styles are addressed. Today 's teachers
are finding it increasingly challenging to engage students. When students show signs of lack of
understanding and boredom, it is important that faculty adjust their lecture style. To help students be
more engaged in their classes, the faculty must ensure that they combine a mixture of learning style
methods and preferences in order to avoid losing learning opportunities for the students (Kumar et
al., 2012; Romanelli, et al., 2009), especially ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For centuries, professors taught through traditional lectures because it was thought that students
could not practically obtain full access to content central to the course (Michel, et al., 2009). Most
lectures last 50–90 minutes, which is much longer than the attention span of a typical student
(Bunce, Flens, & Neiles, 2010). One study found that 60 percent of students find half of their
lectures boring, while 30 percent of students find nearly all of their lectures boring (Mann, 2009).
When bored, students cope by daydreaming (75%), doodling (66%), and sending texts (45%)
(Mann, 2009). In Davis' (2011) study, it was found that students do not want just to sit, listen to the
lecture, take notes, and leave at the end of class. McDaniel's (2010) study of classroom lectures
summarized that lecturing does all the thinking for students, and does not give them a way to engage
with the materials. McDaniel found that classroom lectures should be removed entirely from classes.
The study reported that lecturing is more beneficial when integrated with other modes of
instructions, and is more productive with small group exercises. The study concluded that when a
lecturer begins to speak, students turn off their brains, with no plan of using them for the next 50
minutes. Students nature shut–down happens because they have been taught to

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Learning Styles
Introduction
The way that people go about gathering and interpreting information can be surprisingly different.
Research shows that people have different preferences and strengths in how they take in, and
process, information. These preferences are sometimes referred to as learning styles and are used to
describe and help us understand the different ways in which different people learn.
Some learners may be very receptive to visual forms of information such as pictures and diagrams,
whilst others prefer written and spoken explanations. Some people prefer to learn actively and
interactively, whilst others work better on their own.
The idea of learning styles usually refers to a preferred way of learning. It implies that each
individual has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Teachers should also avoid the temptation to try to categorise or confine individual pupils to one
learning style. Age, educational level, and motivation influence each pupil's learning so that what
was once preferred may no longer be that pupil's current preferred learning style.
Nevertheless, greater awareness of learning preferences and styles helps teachers to be more flexible
in their teaching and to utilise a wider range of classroom methodologies. The aim is not to match
teaching style to learner preferences, but to help young people build their skills and capacities to
learn well in both preferred and less preferred modes of learning.
The main messages for teachers, schools and learners are as follows.
6. Do not place too much faith in any one learning styles theory. Most are not very robust or reliable.
A learning style should not be thought of as an absolute, nor should it be considered the main
determinant of intelligence, ability or

Auditory Learning Style Analysis
The first question I asked was about what learning style everyone preferred the most. With the
results, I got an equal amount of being a visual learner and a kinesthetic learner. The second
question I asked was about why they preferred that learning style the most. The results showed that
people liked to be hands–on and liked to see what was happening and how something should have
been done.
The third question I asked was about what learning style everyone preferred the least. With the
results, I learned that everyone preferred the auditory learning style the least. The fourth question I
asked was about why they preferred that learning style the least. The results showed that people
cannot learn by listening and trying to retain information

Personal Learning Styles Essay
Personal learning styles are highly complex and unique to specific individuals. It is often difficult to
pinpoint an exact learning style. Though there are different categories, we often fine tune them to
our own abilities. By examining our traits and tendencies we create a clearer understanding of how
we process and learn information. With careful review, I have developed a specific analysis of my
learning characteristics, including an evaluation of skill levels. Based on what I have recently
learned and know from experience, I have also devised a structured plan for improvement of time
management and study skills.
From a very young age, writing has been a passion of mine. Through writing I have developed an ...

Working in a group setting was completely undesirable for me; as I would much rather work on my
own. With an introverted personality, I understand my need for independent thinking. I am only able
to concentrate in quite, personalized settings because of easy distractions.
Similarly, organization is a key element to my unique learning style. After taking the "Personality
Spectrum" (Carter, Bishop, Kravits, 2002) assessment, I have become even more aware of my
compatibility with structured learning environments. In class, I need information to be presented in
an easy but detailed fashion. I prefer outlines style formats over summaries of information. It is also
essential that I know what is expected with academics and assignments. This knowledge insures
confidence in my academic ability and allows me to set extra goals when needed.
With respect to my stronger skills, there are still underdeveloped areas of learning which I would
like to improve on. Reading, for example, is my biggest struggle. I have a significant amount of
trouble remembering and comprehending what I read. This has ultimately caused my lack of interest
in this type of learning. I also struggle with lecture style environments, which is again due to my
deficient ability to retain information in this type of setting.
While my new found academic goals reflect my desire for personal achievement,

Learning Styles And Techniques Of Teaching
During my class in Curriculum, Methods, and Assessments: Science and Math, I have had the
opportunity to observe two different mathematic teachers. Through those observations I have gained
great knowledge and understanding. I was exposed to different teaching, learning styles and
techniques. Being able to observe a few different classrooms has given me an opportunity to witness
different aspects of teaching. Through all of my observations during college of teachers I am
confident that teaching is what I want to do with the rest of my life. I will touch on a few topics
from my observation throughout my paper such as, the objective of the lesson, types of methods the
teachers used, differentiation instruction, ways the teachers assess learning in the classroom and
changes that I could make to the lesson.
For my observations at Metzger Middle School, I had the opportunity to observe Ms. Williams and
Ms. James sixth grade Mathematics classrooms. During Ms. Williams first period she had a Co–
Teacher to assist her students that were ESLs (1 student) and IEP/504 (5 students). A student that
was in a wheelchair was also amongst the students; accommodations were made for this student, for
example; the co–teacher had the student that was sitting in the first chair by the door move back a
desk so that the student could put his chair up the desk. Some of the methods that the teacher
provided were mathematical reference sheets and formula charts to help them when answering

CHAPTER I
THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND
Introduction Learning varies on each and everyone. Individuals can perceive and process
information in different kinds of ways, which implies that the degree to which individuals learn has
as much as to do with whether the learning experience is geared to their style of learning. Some of
the individuals learn and develop easily in the early stage, while others are not. For some time now
educational research exploring the issue of academic achievement or success has extended beyond
simple issues of intelligence and prior academic achievement. One concept in particular which has
provided some valuable insights into learning both academic and other settings is learning style.

All of us have the capacity to learn in all four modes. You naturally gravitate to one over the others
based on which style has led to your greatest learning successes.
Background of the Study People are not alike; the world is seen in a way that makes the most sense
to each individual. Since two persons are not basically alike, not all benefits from the same
approach. Each individual has his or her own unique learning strengths and weaknesses. Thus,
educators must use a variety of method to reach the students. This research study has brought
together academic study (knowing), personal growth (being) and practical experience (doing). In
choosing the research topic, the researchers observed the different setting inside the classroom – the
environment inside the classroom and how the students cope during lectures. At the outset it seemed
that the members had different issues and interests. As the concerns were discussed and personal
experiences were shared, the research group seemingly integrated each other's thinking and move
toward a consensus. Brainstorming was used to help the group decide on which topic to research on
as a number of suggestions were narrowed down to the most appropriate choice. The sharing of
ideas made all of the researchers more aware of the complexities of the problem. And this has led
them to the issue on the different learning styles of students.

Four Learning Styles
As I went through high school and college, I always wondered what type of learner there is, how
they learn and what type of learner I am. I learned that there are four different types of learning
which include visual, aural, reading/writing, and kinesthetic. Each learning style has different ways
of learning the material in class, while studying and during exams. Even though there are four main
types of learning, not every person is one type of learner. Most people are a combination of these
learning style because that is how information sticks with them the best. In this essay I will discuss
the differences in the learning styles and how they perform and remember information and go over
what type of learner I am.

I am a mix of kinesthetic and a visual learner. I know I am a kinesthetic learner because I do better
in labs, when teachers give me examples, when I can do hands–on activities, and I go on field trips.
That helps me to recall information for the test and in the test I do have to stretch or move around in
order to jog my memory and stay focused. I am also a visual learner because I can recall pictures
and use pictures or graphs or charts to help me study information. Once I have ideas categorized in
how they fit together, I feel more confident on taking the tests and what to expect on the tests. These
two learning style go hand and hand with each other and are a common combination of learning
styles because the way they merge together. With this knowledge, I now know how to properly

My Learning Style Analysis
Throughout my high school and early college career, the concept of a learning style is far from
foreign. I have learned of the three main learning styles: auditory, visual, and kinesthetic. I have
taken multiple tests and found out what my learning style is and that it has not changed much
throughout my educational career. Earlier in this course, I learned that I need to adapt the way the
teacher is teaching to the learning style that best suits me. My learning style is mainly visual and
kinesthetic. However, the questionnaire created by Barbara Soloman and Richard Felder has given
me a lot more insight to my learning style. I have learned more about my learning style such as what
type of learner I am, how I learn best, my preferred way to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This was an obvious one for me. I knew prior to taking the questionnaire how I learned best. That is
through my visual sensory channels. On the questionnaire I received nine points in the direction of
being a visual learner. This is quite obvious in my daily life as well. I struggle remembering names,
unless I can see it with my eyes, such as written or typed. If that is the case, then most times I will
remember the name. Also, in class, if a teacher just lectures, I learn little to nothing. But, if I am
taking notes, I can see what is being talked about on paper, which better suits my learning style.
Often, I can also learn a lot more on my own, considering many classes are lecture based. This is
advantageous to me because it gives me the ability to go at my own pace and learn even more than
what I may have in class. The way I prefer to process new knowledge was not quite as obvious to
me as how I learn best. While it was not as obvious, that does not mean it does not make sense. My
score for this section was a three, which is very close to being balanced in the way I process new
knowledge. I see traits of both learning styles. I do not find sitting through lectures too difficult. I do
prefer to work alone. I do want to understand things before doing them in most cases. I like to think
out loud and try new things. I do like to learn while doing something active with

The Value of Learning Styles
The Value of Learning Styles Learning styles and their value have been debated for some time.
Students may have a preferred style but this doesn't mean that educators should use just one form to
accommodate an individual's style. Using a multitude of styles will keep a student's interest and will
ensure a more solid understanding of the information presented.
Many researchers believe that everyone has a preferred learning style and have developed a list of
questions and if answered truthfully, are designed to indicate what preferred style the learner has.
The basic learning styles are auditory, visual and kinesthetic. The auditory learners prefer
information presented in a lecture format; Visual learners will do best with images or ... Show more

M., 2013, p. 2). With all of these varying ideas on how to categorize students way of learning it
becomes difficult to know how to best accomplish teaching for a group of different learners. While
it would seem that students benefit from learning in their preferred style or type the reality is that
there may be more to this. The unfortunate truth is the studies that investigate teaching to the
student's style are for the most part flawed. The few that are not flawed show no benefit to teaching
to the student's style. (Guterl, S., 2013, p.2). Cognitive ability and the subject being taught may play
more of a role in the student's ability to learn and retain. The idea to cater to students strengths
seems counter productive. If a student struggles with visual learning, it may be advantageous to
develop that shortcoming. The goal of any education program is to leave with more knowledge. The
idea of stretching the abilities of students will only benefit them in the end. When a child is very
little and unable to walk we don't discourage them from developing the strength and coordination to
walk, even though there are other ways of moving around. We know that in time they will learn to
walk and eventually run. We encourage them to stretch their abilities and by that develop more
abilities. The same could be said of learning styles; by a student learning in a style that is less
desirable they are developing a new strength.
Another way to look at learning styles is the

the original Learning Style Inventory developed by David A. Kolb. Like its predecessors, KLSI 3.1
is based on experiential learning theory (Kolb 1984) and is designed to help individuals identify the
way they learn from experience. This revision includes new norms that are based on a larger, more
diverse, and more representative sample of 6977 LSI users. The format, items, scoring and

In Piaget's terms, learning occurs through equilibration of the dialectic processes of assimilating
new experiences into existing concepts and accommodating existing concepts to new experience. 6.
Learning is the process of creating knowledge. ELT proposes a constructivist theory of learning
whereby social knowledge is created and recreated in the personal knowledge of the learner. This
stands in contrast to the "transmission" model on which much current educational practice is based,
where pre–existing fixed ideas are transmitted to the learner. ELT defines learning as "the process
whereby knowledge is created through the transformation of experience. Knowledge results from
the combination of grasping and transforming experience" (Kolb 1984: 41). The ELT model portrays
two dialectically related modes of grasping experience–Concrete Experience (CE) and Abstract
Conceptualization (AC)–and two dialectically related modes of transforming experience–Reflective
Observation (RO) and Active Experimentation (AE). Experiential learning is a process of
constructing knowledge that involves a creative tension among the four learning modes that is
responsive to contextual demands. This process is portrayed as an idealized learning cycle or spiral
where the learner "touches all the bases"–experiencing, reflecting, thinking, and acting–in a
recursive process that is responsive to the learning situation and what is being learned. Immediate or

Reflection On Learning Styles
As both a learner and someone who aspires to teach I have many different learning styles. In class
taking the three different learning style inventories I noticed that I came out to have some results
that were really realistic and fit me and my learning style in class as well as the way I enjoy to teach
others. The three Learning Styles tests we took included Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligences
theory, The traditional learning style inventory, and lastly, the DISC model theory. Together I think
these three devices really helped me understand the way I learn much more effectively as well as
ways to identify, teach, and adapt my teaching style to best fit other learning styles.
According to Howard Gardner's Multiple intelligences learning theory I am Verbal Linguistic,
Musical, and lastly Interpersonal. With Verbal Linguistic being my most prominent and noticeable
learning theory without taking the quiz I believe that this stems back from when I was younger and
how my mother planted the love of reading into my childhood. Even when I was younger I was
always the child to raise my hand and volunteer to read the longest page out of the book because I
just loved reading and speaking aloud. Something new I learned from this learning theory inventory
was that I am also a Musical learner, which I wasn't really expecting. Much like most teens my age,
I enjoy listening to music and singing along, but I never really thought about how much music
affects my learning. Now after taking

Learning Styles : A Learning Style Assessment
A learning style is a term used to describe the ways in which people gather, interpret, and store
information. Each style can be broken down into a category based on sensory needs: auditory,
visual, and tactile. The presumption is that you will best retain the information presented to you if
the conditions of your learning style meet. Based on the idea that learning styles exist, I consider
myself a visual learner. I prefer to write instructions and keep my thoughts organized. I generate
ideas based on reading examples or watching instructional videos. As a child, my preferences were
lined primarily with auditory learning. I could easily remember things that spoken to me. As our
personalities develop and environment changes, so do our learning styles.
A learning style assessment is a good way to gather information about your primary learning style. A
series of questions are asked to determine your sensory preferences. Our learning environment can
play a role in how well we will retain the information given to us. We may use different learning
styles based on the situation. A learning style assessment offers a variety of scenarios to assess the
way you learn most of the time. The questions vary from the type of books you enjoy to what you
do while you wait in line at a store checkout. According to the assessment, my learning style is 40%
Auditory, 35% Visual, and 25% Tactile. As a primarily auditory learner, "you learn best by hearing
and listening" as well as "hum or talk

The Learning Style Inventory ( Lsi )
This assignment came to life because of the two theorists P. Honey and A. Mumford. They
researched on how to put together a project in order to identify the learning styles. The starting point
of this scheme was supported by the Kolb learning style inventory (LSI). Finally, they came up with
the idea of a questionnaire. They gathered eighty questions together, containing four different
learning styles along with characteristics of the person/s that might fit in. The image below
represents the theory along with the learning styles produced. (workpress.com, 2011)
Many people will argue that the theory discussed is `not a psychometric instrument, but a checklist
about how people learn`; furthermore, it could expose the `danger of labelling people as theorists or
pragmatists, when most people exhibit more than one strong preferences (F.Coffield, 2004, p. 28).
Perhaps that every individual from this Planet is different and unique, this is a fact. The same like
being different means that we have diverse ways of perception towards new concepts and ideas
(learning in general). However, we all have similar ways of approaching and understanding,
therefore learning. The two theorists did not necessarily intended to say that certain people have
certain learning styles; conceivably, they just wanted to help people recognize themselves and other
people around them in order to learn and work more efficiently. As we are so unpredictable, at least

A useful example to help understand this concept better is how we learn to use a new piece of
technology. We can approach it either by sitting alone, reading instructions from beginning to end
before or take a 'hands on' approach like pressing the different controls to discover through trial and
error or learn by seeing others using the same. This example helps to reflect about how learning
preferences vary among individuals. This said however, circumstances may also determine how
each person learns something new.
Such examples help us to think about how we have preferences for the manner in which we learn.
Thus, understanding learning styles approaches helps us to consider an individual's dominant or
preferred way of thinking in turn helping us to learn better in lesser time.
HISTORY OF LEARNING STYLES
Early History:
In the beginning, research focused on the relationship between memory and oral or visual methods.
In 1904, Alfred Binet, a French psychologist, developed the first intelligence test, which spawned
interest in individual differences. The study of learning styles was the next step: In 1907, Dr. Maria
Montessori, who invented the Montessori Method of education, began using materials to enhance
the learning styles of her students. Dr. Montessori believed that students do not demonstrate mastery
of subjects through a multiple–choice answer sheet, but through their actions.

Unless a child is completely removed from an environment where language is communicated the

When one attempts to acquire a second language this is not always the case though. Many more

Learning Styles And The Learning Style
In this essay I will be exploring the importance of learning styles and the effectiveness of them to
student nurses, providing evidence from learning theories and also acknowledging David Kolb's
experiential cycle (1984). Furthermore, I will be discussing my dominant learning style, providing
the advantages and disadvantages of my learning style on my learning and development, considering
the various ways I can improve my learning. I will also explain my weaker learning style and
express the different ways I can improve it, in making it an effective learning style for me to
improve the quality of my learning.
The Oxford dictionary of English (2010) defines learning as "the acquisition of knowledge or skills
through study, experience or being taught". Each individual has their own preferred style of
learning, for example some individuals may prefer visual learning rather than text–based learning
(Hughes, 2002). Due to each individual having and understanding their own preferred method of
learning, this helps them to process information and learning new things.
As a student nurse, it is vital that you understand how you learning because, this could have an
impact on your learning. Adding to this, being able to identify your learning style will help you to

the instructor provides different learning activities (Visual, Auditory, Read/Write, and Kinesthetic).
(AIKhasawneh, 2013, p. 1549)". There are other attributes which aides in learning such as room
temperature, lighting, sound and allowing breaks for students to absorb information that instructors
need to consider when teaching. Providing time for learners to absorb information, discuss lecture
with others and replenish nutrition are necessary for instructors to keep in mind. In conclusion, it is
wise to discover your preferred learning style to enhance education and make you a better
teacher/student. Passing along this information to others may encourage them to learn as they
discover the style which best suits them. Important also is to realize patients need to be assessed for
their best learning style. References AIKhasawneh, E. (2013, December, 2013).

Learning Styles Research Paper
The Effects of Learning Styles As Benjamin Franklin once said, "Tell me and I forget. Teach me and
I remember. Involve me and I learn." Throughout the years many have studied how people learn.
Knowing this, there are different types of learning. There are three types of learning styles, Visual,
Aural and Kinesthetic according to The Twin Cycle Experimental Learning Model:
Reconceptulizing Kolb's Theory. (Avery, Gayle and Bergstiener, Herald. 2014). The observations
done in the articles have proved the theory of multiple learning styles is to be true. Learning styles
of students is very prominent and obviously an issue when combined with a large class size.
Different learning styles have always impacted our lives although it may be more relevant due to
test scores and lecture studies. Whereas in the article Teaching Very Large Classes, professors give
their own opinions on the struggle of attending to the needs of very large class sizes. People don't
use the different learning styles, Visual, Kinesthetic and Auditory, to their advantage. In particular,
my first article examined all learning styles and even broke them down further from just Kinesthetic,
Auditory and Visual to six different types. This proving the three to be dominant with people they
experimented with. In my first article The Twin Cycle Experimental Learning Model:
Reconceptulizing Kolb's Theory states, "Furthermore, the model in conjunction with the taxonomy
is integrative, it takes account of Gregorc's

My Learning Style Analysis
In my school career I have found that there are many different learning styles, and although a person
can be more than one, which I happen to think I am, most of us typically are just "one" type of
learner. According to the "Learning Style Survey," my results ended up being a "visual learner,"
(Bixler, "Learning Style Inventory"). I found these results to be very accurate. I learned at an early
age that I was more of a visual learner, I always needed to look at what I was learning, this gave me
a sense of understanding. According to the webpage, "Learning Style Inventory," I tend to use
specific learning materials such as " charts, maps, filmstrips, notes and flashcards," (Bixler,
"Learning Style Inventory"). I know that when I was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

huge accomplishment. This specific pledge pertains to my learning style in the since, that I will

Describe Your Preferred Learning Style
1. Describe your preferred learning style according to the results of the self–assessment. Discuss all
four dimensions. After completing the online learning style self–assessment and analyzing my
results, I have noticed that I'm a fairly balanced person on the two dimensions of the scales. I scored
1 towards being an active learner and a reflective learner. This means that I prefer learning by being
physically active, equally to sitting and thinking about the matter quietly. I tend to prefer working
alone and with groups depending on the type of work that I'm required to complete. I scored 1
towards the sensing learning style on the sensing and intuitive scale. This means that I don't really
favor any of them and that I am fairly flexible with both. I tend to learn facts when possible and also
like discovering possibilities and relationships between certain topics. I tend to have an equal
preference when it comes to learning practically and carefully, in comparison to working fast and
being more innovative. I scored 1 towards the visual learning style on the visual and verbal style
scale. This means that I tend learn easier visually by seeing pictures, diagrams and demonstrations
similarly to writing and listening to explanations. I also scored 3 towards the global learning style on
the sequential and global scale, which was not very similar to my other results. It is still considered
fairly balanced and that I don't really have a preference over the other. On that scale, I

Social Determinants Of Learning Style Preferences
Whether being in a lecture class or in a work setting, every individual has a specific learning style
that best fits them. Some people prefer to understand life interactively while others may prefer
logical, concrete, or practical types of comprehension. From the cognitive aspect, individuals
receive and process information differently which describes their learning style. According to the
"Cultural Determinants of Learning Style Preferences" article, learning styles are cognitive,
affective, and physiological traits that aid as stable indicators of how individuals perceive, interact
with, and respond to the learning circumstances (Holtbrugge & Mohr, 2010). The various learning
styles include the assimilating, converging, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My ability to take others feelings into consideration led me to build meaningful relationships with
my colleagues, and superiors. I was able to shadow and learn very pertinent information. In addition
to learning from others I was able to help solve problems as well as propose ideas.
The Diverging learning style pertains to those who listen to the suggestions of others without always
initiating the discussion among the group. Characteristics that make up this particular learning style
are brainstorming, being open–minded, understanding people, recognizing problems, and being
imaginative (Kolb, 2007). As I reflect back to various tasks which I have been assigned, I can recall
using the brainstorming method to come up with a way to effectively execute the assignment. My
first step to executing the assignment was to recognize the problem. My second step was to use my
imagination to come up with numerous possibilities. Lastly, I presented my solutions to my peers,
accepting feedback with an open mind.
Keeping an open mind allows me to be able to learn from others. It also benefits me in ways such as
seeing things from opposing points of view. It provides a platform for me to grow in understanding
that there can be various ways to approach a situation. For example, I was raised in the Church of
Christ, always firm in my religious beliefs. I was taught there was only one right way to go about

Overview of the read/write learning style
The read/write learning style mainly makes the use of printed words to receive and convey learning
information. Using the style enables one skill to become the input of another through the transfer of
the ability to read to that of writing. The skills transfer is integral in raising the awareness of how the
structural components involved in learning are shared in both reading and writing modalities
(VARK, 2016). One of the reasons a leaner may choose to embrace the read/write learning style is
because it facilitates cognitive concept mastery since it brings out the aspect of making ... Show

In case the study consists of charts, diagrams, actions and reactions, one ought to change them into
words or statements ( Routman, 2014). With correspondence to the listed personal strategies, the
VARK strategies require that an individual ought to write the principles and ideas from the intake
sources into other words (VARK, 2016). Reading notes again and again silently is another VARK
strategy which can be compared to developing questions as indicated in the personal strategies.
Writing words again and again as a preferred VARK strategy is the strategy that somehow
challenges the personal strategies but it can be partly linked to reading the notes, summary and the
developed questions again and again to enhance mastery
How teaching and learning is influenced by the awareness of the learning style, preference and
strategies
Read/write learning style has significant influences on both teaching and learning; hence,
determining how a teacher should execute the teaching role and how a student receives and retains
concepts. The use of reading/ writing style exercises metacognition in learning, thereby, positively
influencing learning. The style compels learners to be engaged in metacognitve processes, then
enables them to regulate and attend to cognitive processes (Heeney, n.d). On the other hand, the
awareness of the reading/writing learning style influences the mode of

Teaching and Learning Styles
It is evident that schools in the current society are filled with diversity whether it is culturally,
ethnically or socially (Montgomery & Groat, 1998). All of these unique features can play a part in
the type of learning style the child prefers. The personality and genetic makeup of the learner also
affects the way in which they perceive and process information differently to other learners.
(Gregorc, 1982) According Ellis (1985, p.14) a learning style is "the more or less consistent way in
which a person perceives, conceptualizes, organizes and recalls information." Therefore it is
extremely vital that teachers adapt their teaching styles within the classroom so that each child is

These types of learners go hand in hand with the different learning styles, all depending on the
individual themselves.
There are many subjects that do not fit all types of teaching styles, especially when reaching the
later grades in the educational environment. (Lemmer, Meier & Van Wyk, 2006) However by this
stage most learners have been equipped with the necessary learning skills to understand and learn by
the style that best suits the subject. Science is a good example as to grasp the concepts of mixing
chemicals or gaining textual knowledge one needs to physically acquire such information by means
of experiments and examinations. In this type of subject reading material would not be enough to
gain full understanding. In universities where there are a great number of students lecturing is the
best teaching method as other teaching methods would fail due to allocated time, space and
effectiveness. Yet lecturing would not work in a Grade. 1 class as the children do not have the skills
to understand need more hands on, personal teaching. Therefore age, knowledge and ability
influence the teaching style an educator may use when teaching particular content. (Lemmer, Meier
& Van Wyk, 2006)
In conclusion it is inevitable that learners bring to the classroom a great diversity of learning styles.
So as for a teacher it is difficult to please all styles simultaneously, but if you vary the

Evaluating My Learning Style
People have different learning style. According to the VAK Learning Style Indicators, my learning
style is quite not clear which is tend to be physical but very close to visual and auditory. Because of
in university or college even high school in some cases is very stressful. Student live in a very
intensive environment, so it is very significant to let the student know what their learning style is.
Let them concentrate on using the learning style that they good at. So, I am going to introduce my
current learning style, the tasks I find which is the most easiest or difficult and the strategies I think
it would be useful in university due to my learning style.
I have a weird hobby that is in the theater, I will casually turn my head back to see how people
would react when they watch movie. Perhaps this action shows the visual side that I tend to accept
information. Another example, back to the time I started learning English, I have got no interest at
all. The only thing I interested in is English music, some of them were really attracted me. Then I
started learning those vocabularies from the lyrics while listening to the music, I have learned both
pronunciation and general vocabulary. I believe this would show how auditory style works on me.
Also, this example brought up the moment I learned to dance when I was little. Just imagine all the
movement in my head while listening music then tell the dance instructor all those movements, she

1. What I intend to do
In this assignment I will aim to discuss the factors which can affect learning for a student.
Incorporated in this I will discuss theories of 'learning styles', comparing and contrasting them and
try to identify aspects which can impact upon my practice. I will analyse my own teaching style and
that of others to see how the theories can be applied and also assess my own success in meeting the
needs of the students.
1.1 Why?

Abstract perceivers, however, take in information through analysis, observation, and thinking.

Schooling generally focuses on active and reflective processors however concrete and abstract
perceivers are becoming more and more catered for.
Learning styles theories impact education through the curriculum, instruction and assessment. The
curriculum must place emphasis on intuition, feeling, sensing, and imagination, in addition to the
traditional skills of analysis, reason, and sequential problem solving. In the instruction, teachers
should design their instruction methods to connect with all four learning styles, using various
combinations of experience, reflection, conceptualization, and experimentation. Finally, in
assessment teachers should employ a variety of assessment techniques, focusing on the development
of "whole brain" capacity and each of the different learning styles

Upon completion of the learning styles module, I have confirmed that I am a multimodal learner,
meaning that I use multiple learning styles and strategies. The main learning styles are visual,
kinesthetic, and auditory. In addition, each style has subgroups. For example, a person with visual–
nonverbal style can learn by simply looking at an image, and not find it necessary to be told the
meaning of the image. Such learners may find color–coding to be a useful tool to retain information
(studentlingo.com). Auditory learners learn best by hearing information. Auditory–verbal learners

help the student with a strong read/write preference to understand the meanings contained in the

Learning Styles By Different Types Of Learning
Learning is a very important thing in our life. Every day a person learns new things until the end of
their life. People cannot stop the learning and everyone starts learning from childhood. For example,
when the baby born, they learn about suck, eat, crawl and walk, and then they develop into children
and their bodies ready to learn more than one form of thinking it includes personality, senses,
feelings and values. A.K., Whiren, AP. (2004).
The VARK learning Styles tell that everyone has a different personality to learn. VARK divided a
learning styles by different types of learning like, Visual, Aural, Reading and writing, and
kinesthetic and the mixture. The V which stands for Visual represents people who learn from Charts,
Diagram and pictures. They are people who have to see a new thing to believe them. The A stands
for auditory and they learn best from talking and hearing. The Reading and Writing categories
identifies who learns best by reading and writing. The K stands for kinesthetic and the people who
identify as kinesthetic learn best by demonstration, practice and to see movies of real things. And the
last one VARK identify learning style is mixed. People use various styles for learning rather than
one style. Through this learning style people can get new knowledge and share the new knowledge
with each other. There also is a different kind of learning such as in a group and class room or in

Orientation to Adult Learning is a course that introduces self–awareness to the learner. This course
is vital to all adult learners because this is where the learner identifies a pattern in themselves and in
the life of other individuals as well. This paper will give the reader an insight on four of the many
academic concepts covered in this course that helps equip the adult learner by self–analysis.
Orientation to Adult Learning covers many academic concepts in the weekly readings that were
conducted by each adult learner. Academic concepts basically educate the reader on different
strategies or plans to help them develop better skills for future success. It is a must that to become a
success that every individual is able to identify their own strengths and weaknesses (Bethel

Abstract
This paper examines three models of learning styles including Kolb Experiential Learning Model,
the VARK model, and the Honey and Mumford model. While the research on these three learning
style models details both strengths and weaknesses, an alternative is suggested and explored in this
paper. The methods by which each model is measured are also explained in this paper; they include
the Learning Styles Inventory (LSI) and the Learning Styles Questionairre (LSQ) and correlate to
the Kolb model and the Honey and Mumford model. Using the information discovered concerning
the research of learning styles, the relevance and use of the models is then examined in the context
of the field of training and development. This paper uses Pashler's (2008) findings to suggest that
learning styles should not be the basis for training and development but rather a tool to gain
awareness for organizations to better develop employees for situations that could arise. Keywords:

Teaching Styles And Methods Rather Than Learning
This class was very interesting, and different from other youth ministry classes that I have taken. In
this class we discussed more about teaching styles and methods rather than learning about how to
deal with adolescents. For me this class really helped me to become more confident that I can be a
youth minister. To help relate this experience for me into a paper I will discuss the different
historical elements of how to religiously teach, the learning styles, and some of the things that I will
take with me as I go out into the field. The history of religious education is very intense; according
to Models of Religious Education, religious education starts in the early 19th century . This model is
called "The Historic Prototype of Religious Education." This model is concerned with giving more
of a divine message. For me this is not a type of education that I would use. While, I believe that the
divinity of Jesus is important I feel like there is many more things that need to be discussed than the
divinity of Jesus. The next model that Burgess bring up is "The Classical Liberal Model of Religious
Education," which comes around at about 1910. This method is focuses on being saved through
society. This is a strange topic because it is hard to think about someone being saved because of
society, especially with today's society. However, what they do is teach children to create a social
atmosphere where society can be saved. This method still steams strange to me

said that the knowledge process is made with the help of transformation and the series of

of the characteristics, the ways of gathering information, organizing information and thinking about
the information.
It is an examined fact that the people's learning style includes all the things they know, acts they do,

The cycle of learning helps the student nurse to adopt new skills and get information about the latest
products and the information. The learning process contains 4 important steps. These steps are the
identifications of the needs, the requirements of learning, the design of the learning, delivery of the
learning courses and programs and the learning evaluation.
First of all, the identification of the needs for the learning process is very important for the student
nurses. Why do they need to study? What is their main aim to get education? What is the purpose of
the study and many other important questions are considered under this point. On the basis of the
need identification, the further process continuous.
The next point is the consideration of the learning requirements. These requirements should include
all the important things that are required things that are used in the learning process (Velma Lee,
2011). For an example, the student nurse should use the audio and visual aid to get the information.
Nowadays, with the advancement of the technology, people also refer different applications to the
student nurses to get information. All these are the requirements of learning process for the student
nurses.

Reflective Essay On Learning Styles

  • 1. Reflective Essay On Learning Styles Learning is obtaining skills through knowledge, study, or by teaching. Learning styles refers to a system of collecting, processing, interpreting, arranging and thinking about information. Learning takes place in different forms like Read & Write comprehends through reading and writing by taking notes, Aural listens to information by hearing and speaking, Visual learns through visualizing of objects to understand, Kinesthetic is hands on learning experience, and Multimodal is study via several diverse modes of learning. Looking at these learning styles, I am a Multimodal learner according to my VARK result test. With several methods of learning, this employs diverse ways to help me memorize and understand what I've learned much better by changing between different learning styles that any teacher might use to teach because, I like numerous ways of absorbing information. As a read and write learner, I like taking notes in class and I read over these notes or copy them out. I take my time to study at my own pace and in a quiet environment, I love studying ahead of time to gather and collect all the information needed to understand and also learn a new task to achieve new skills I require. When I'm listening to a lecture for instance, I like to take notes, make bullet points for my reading, and I also turn illustrations into words and check the dictionary for word meanings for me to understand when I study. I check out information in library, textbooks and handouts for better ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. The Kolb 's Learning Styles Model The Kolb's Learning Styles model can help teachers to realize that students have different approaches to gaining knowledge. To address such a diverse group, teachers should provide learning objectives in many different ways to ensure that all learning styles are addressed. Today 's teachers are finding it increasingly challenging to engage students. When students show signs of lack of understanding and boredom, it is important that faculty adjust their lecture style. To help students be more engaged in their classes, the faculty must ensure that they combine a mixture of learning style methods and preferences in order to avoid losing learning opportunities for the students (Kumar et al., 2012; Romanelli, et al., 2009), especially ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For centuries, professors taught through traditional lectures because it was thought that students could not practically obtain full access to content central to the course (Michel, et al., 2009). Most lectures last 50–90 minutes, which is much longer than the attention span of a typical student (Bunce, Flens, & Neiles, 2010). One study found that 60 percent of students find half of their lectures boring, while 30 percent of students find nearly all of their lectures boring (Mann, 2009). When bored, students cope by daydreaming (75%), doodling (66%), and sending texts (45%) (Mann, 2009). In Davis' (2011) study, it was found that students do not want just to sit, listen to the lecture, take notes, and leave at the end of class. McDaniel's (2010) study of classroom lectures summarized that lecturing does all the thinking for students, and does not give them a way to engage with the materials. McDaniel found that classroom lectures should be removed entirely from classes. The study reported that lecturing is more beneficial when integrated with other modes of instructions, and is more productive with small group exercises. The study concluded that when a lecturer begins to speak, students turn off their brains, with no plan of using them for the next 50 minutes. Students nature shut–down happens because they have been taught to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Strengths And Weaknesses Of Learning Styles Introduction The way that people go about gathering and interpreting information can be surprisingly different. Research shows that people have different preferences and strengths in how they take in, and process, information. These preferences are sometimes referred to as learning styles and are used to describe and help us understand the different ways in which different people learn. Some learners may be very receptive to visual forms of information such as pictures and diagrams, whilst others prefer written and spoken explanations. Some people prefer to learn actively and interactively, whilst others work better on their own. The idea of learning styles usually refers to a preferred way of learning. It implies that each individual has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Teachers should also avoid the temptation to try to categorise or confine individual pupils to one learning style. Age, educational level, and motivation influence each pupil's learning so that what was once preferred may no longer be that pupil's current preferred learning style. Nevertheless, greater awareness of learning preferences and styles helps teachers to be more flexible in their teaching and to utilise a wider range of classroom methodologies. The aim is not to match teaching style to learner preferences, but to help young people build their skills and capacities to learn well in both preferred and less preferred modes of learning. The main messages for teachers, schools and learners are as follows. 6. Do not place too much faith in any one learning styles theory. Most are not very robust or reliable. A learning style should not be thought of as an absolute, nor should it be considered the main determinant of intelligence, ability or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Auditory Learning Style Analysis The first question I asked was about what learning style everyone preferred the most. With the results, I got an equal amount of being a visual learner and a kinesthetic learner. The second question I asked was about why they preferred that learning style the most. The results showed that people liked to be hands–on and liked to see what was happening and how something should have been done. The third question I asked was about what learning style everyone preferred the least. With the results, I learned that everyone preferred the auditory learning style the least. The fourth question I asked was about why they preferred that learning style the least. The results showed that people cannot learn by listening and trying to retain information ... • 9. Personal Learning Styles Essay Personal learning styles are highly complex and unique to specific individuals. It is often difficult to pinpoint an exact learning style. Though there are different categories, we often fine tune them to our own abilities. By examining our traits and tendencies we create a clearer understanding of how we process and learn information. With careful review, I have developed a specific analysis of my learning characteristics, including an evaluation of skill levels. Based on what I have recently learned and know from experience, I have also devised a structured plan for improvement of time management and study skills. From a very young age, writing has been a passion of mine. Through writing I have developed an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Working in a group setting was completely undesirable for me; as I would much rather work on my own. With an introverted personality, I understand my need for independent thinking. I am only able to concentrate in quite, personalized settings because of easy distractions. Similarly, organization is a key element to my unique learning style. After taking the "Personality Spectrum" (Carter, Bishop, Kravits, 2002) assessment, I have become even more aware of my compatibility with structured learning environments. In class, I need information to be presented in an easy but detailed fashion. I prefer outlines style formats over summaries of information. It is also essential that I know what is expected with academics and assignments. This knowledge insures confidence in my academic ability and allows me to set extra goals when needed. With respect to my stronger skills, there are still underdeveloped areas of learning which I would like to improve on. Reading, for example, is my biggest struggle. I have a significant amount of trouble remembering and comprehending what I read. This has ultimately caused my lack of interest in this type of learning. I also struggle with lecture style environments, which is again due to my deficient ability to retain information in this type of setting. While my new found academic goals reflect my desire for personal achievement, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Learning Styles And Techniques Of Teaching During my class in Curriculum, Methods, and Assessments: Science and Math, I have had the opportunity to observe two different mathematic teachers. Through those observations I have gained great knowledge and understanding. I was exposed to different teaching, learning styles and techniques. Being able to observe a few different classrooms has given me an opportunity to witness different aspects of teaching. Through all of my observations during college of teachers I am confident that teaching is what I want to do with the rest of my life. I will touch on a few topics from my observation throughout my paper such as, the objective of the lesson, types of methods the teachers used, differentiation instruction, ways the teachers assess learning in the classroom and changes that I could make to the lesson. For my observations at Metzger Middle School, I had the opportunity to observe Ms. Williams and Ms. James sixth grade Mathematics classrooms. During Ms. Williams first period she had a Co– Teacher to assist her students that were ESLs (1 student) and IEP/504 (5 students). A student that was in a wheelchair was also amongst the students; accommodations were made for this student, for example; the co–teacher had the student that was sitting in the first chair by the door move back a desk so that the student could put his chair up the desk. • 13. Different Learning Styles of Sophomore Nursing Students of... CHAPTER I THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND Introduction Learning varies on each and everyone. Individuals can perceive and process information in different kinds of ways, which implies that the degree to which individuals learn has as much as to do with whether the learning experience is geared to their style of learning. Some of the individuals learn and develop easily in the early stage, while others are not. For some time now educational research exploring the issue of academic achievement or success has extended beyond simple issues of intelligence and prior academic achievement. One concept in particular which has provided some valuable insights into learning both academic and other settings is learning style. There is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All of us have the capacity to learn in all four modes. You naturally gravitate to one over the others based on which style has led to your greatest learning successes. Background of the Study People are not alike; the world is seen in a way that makes the most sense to each individual. Since two persons are not basically alike, not all benefits from the same approach. Each individual has his or her own unique learning strengths and weaknesses. Thus, educators must use a variety of method to reach the students. This research study has brought together academic study (knowing), personal growth (being) and practical experience (doing). In choosing the research topic, the researchers observed the different setting inside the classroom – the environment inside the classroom and how the students cope during lectures. At the outset it seemed that the members had different issues and interests. As the concerns were discussed and personal experiences were shared, the research group seemingly integrated each other's thinking and move toward a consensus. Brainstorming was used to help the group decide on which topic to research on as a number of suggestions were narrowed down to the most appropriate choice. The sharing of ideas made all of the researchers more aware of the complexities of the problem. And this has led them to the issue on the different learning styles of students. ... • 15. Four Learning Styles As I went through high school and college, I always wondered what type of learner there is, how they learn and what type of learner I am. I learned that there are four different types of learning which include visual, aural, reading/writing, and kinesthetic. Each learning style has different ways of learning the material in class, while studying and during exams. Even though there are four main types of learning, not every person is one type of learner. Most people are a combination of these learning style because that is how information sticks with them the best. In this essay I will discuss the differences in the learning styles and how they perform and remember information and go over what type of learner I am. The first learning style ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I am a mix of kinesthetic and a visual learner. I know I am a kinesthetic learner because I do better in labs, when teachers give me examples, when I can do hands–on activities, and I go on field trips. That helps me to recall information for the test and in the test I do have to stretch or move around in order to jog my memory and stay focused. I am also a visual learner because I can recall pictures and use pictures or graphs or charts to help me study information. Once I have ideas categorized in how they fit together, I feel more confident on taking the tests and what to expect on the tests. • 17. My Learning Style Analysis Throughout my high school and early college career, the concept of a learning style is far from foreign. I have learned of the three main learning styles: auditory, visual, and kinesthetic. I have taken multiple tests and found out what my learning style is and that it has not changed much throughout my educational career. Earlier in this course, I learned that I need to adapt the way the teacher is teaching to the learning style that best suits me. My learning style is mainly visual and kinesthetic. However, the questionnaire created by Barbara Soloman and Richard Felder has given me a lot more insight to my learning style. I have learned more about my learning style such as what type of learner I am, how I learn best, my preferred way to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was an obvious one for me. I knew prior to taking the questionnaire how I learned best. That is through my visual sensory channels. On the questionnaire I received nine points in the direction of being a visual learner. This is quite obvious in my daily life as well. I struggle remembering names, unless I can see it with my eyes, such as written or typed. If that is the case, then most times I will remember the name. Also, in class, if a teacher just lectures, I learn little to nothing. But, if I am taking notes, I can see what is being talked about on paper, which better suits my learning style. Often, I can also learn a lot more on my own, considering many classes are lecture based. This is advantageous to me because it gives me the ability to go at my own pace and learn even more than what I may have in class. The way I prefer to process new knowledge was not quite as obvious to me as how I learn best. While it was not as obvious, that does not mean it does not make sense. My score for this section was a three, which is very close to being balanced in the way I process new knowledge. I see traits of both learning styles. I do not find sitting through lectures too difficult. I do prefer to work alone. I do want to understand things before doing them in most cases. I like to think out loud and try new things. • 19. The Value of Learning Styles The Value of Learning Styles Learning styles and their value have been debated for some time. Students may have a preferred style but this doesn't mean that educators should use just one form to accommodate an individual's style. Using a multitude of styles will keep a student's interest and will ensure a more solid understanding of the information presented. Many researchers believe that everyone has a preferred learning style and have developed a list of questions and if answered truthfully, are designed to indicate what preferred style the learner has. The basic learning styles are auditory, visual and kinesthetic. The auditory learners prefer information presented in a lecture format; Visual learners will do best with images or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... M., 2013, p. 2). With all of these varying ideas on how to categorize students way of learning it becomes difficult to know how to best accomplish teaching for a group of different learners. While it would seem that students benefit from learning in their preferred style or type the reality is that there may be more to this. The unfortunate truth is the studies that investigate teaching to the student's style are for the most part flawed. The few that are not flawed show no benefit to teaching to the student's style. (Guterl, S., 2013, p.2). Cognitive ability and the subject being taught may play more of a role in the student's ability to learn and retain. The idea to cater to students strengths seems counter productive. If a student struggles with visual learning, it may be advantageous to develop that shortcoming. The goal of any education program is to leave with more knowledge. The idea of stretching the abilities of students will only benefit them in the end. When a child is very little and unable to walk we don't discourage them from developing the strength and coordination to walk, even though there are other ways of moving around. We know that in time they will learn to walk and eventually run. We encourage them to stretch their abilities and by that develop more abilities. The same could be said of learning styles; by a student learning in a style that is less desirable they are developing a new strength. Another way to look at learning styles is the ... In Piaget's terms, learning occurs through equilibration of the dialectic processes of assimilating new experiences into existing concepts and accommodating existing concepts to new experience. 6. Learning is the process of creating knowledge. ELT proposes a constructivist theory of learning whereby social knowledge is created and recreated in the personal knowledge of the learner. This stands in contrast to the "transmission" model on which much current educational practice is based, where pre–existing fixed ideas are transmitted to the learner. ELT defines learning as "the process whereby knowledge is created through the transformation of experience. Knowledge results from the combination of grasping and transforming experience" (Kolb 1984: 41). The ELT model portrays two dialectically related modes of grasping experience–Concrete Experience (CE) and Abstract Conceptualization (AC)–and two dialectically related modes of transforming experience–Reflective Observation (RO) and Active Experimentation (AE). Experiential learning is a process of constructing knowledge that involves a creative tension among the four learning modes that is responsive to contextual demands. This process is portrayed as an idealized learning cycle or spiral where the learner "touches all the bases"–experiencing, reflecting, thinking, and acting–in a recursive process that is responsive to the learning situation and what is being learned. • 25. Reflection On Learning Styles As both a learner and someone who aspires to teach I have many different learning styles. In class taking the three different learning style inventories I noticed that I came out to have some results that were really realistic and fit me and my learning style in class as well as the way I enjoy to teach others. The three Learning Styles tests we took included Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligences theory, The traditional learning style inventory, and lastly, the DISC model theory. Together I think these three devices really helped me understand the way I learn much more effectively as well as ways to identify, teach, and adapt my teaching style to best fit other learning styles. According to Howard Gardner's Multiple intelligences learning theory I am Verbal Linguistic, Musical, and lastly Interpersonal. With Verbal Linguistic being my most prominent and noticeable learning theory without taking the quiz I believe that this stems back from when I was younger and how my mother planted the love of reading into my childhood. Even when I was younger I was always the child to raise my hand and volunteer to read the longest page out of the book because I just loved reading and speaking aloud. Something new I learned from this learning theory inventory was that I am also a Musical learner, which I wasn't really expecting. Much like most teens my age, I enjoy listening to music and singing along, but I never really thought about how much music affects my learning. Now after taking ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. Learning Styles : A Learning Style Assessment A learning style is a term used to describe the ways in which people gather, interpret, and store information. Each style can be broken down into a category based on sensory needs: auditory, visual, and tactile. The presumption is that you will best retain the information presented to you if the conditions of your learning style meet. Based on the idea that learning styles exist, I consider myself a visual learner. I prefer to write instructions and keep my thoughts organized. I generate ideas based on reading examples or watching instructional videos. As a child, my preferences were lined primarily with auditory learning. I could easily remember things that spoken to me. As our personalities develop and environment changes, so do our learning styles. A learning style assessment is a good way to gather information about your primary learning style. A series of questions are asked to determine your sensory preferences. Our learning environment can play a role in how well we will retain the information given to us. We may use different learning styles based on the situation. A learning style assessment offers a variety of scenarios to assess the way you learn most of the time. The questions vary from the type of books you enjoy to what you do while you wait in line at a store checkout. According to the assessment, my learning style is 40% Auditory, 35% Visual, and 25% Tactile. As a primarily auditory learner, "you learn best by hearing and listening" as well as "hum or talk ... • 32. The Learning Style Inventory ( Lsi ) This assignment came to life because of the two theorists P. Honey and A. Mumford. They researched on how to put together a project in order to identify the learning styles. The starting point of this scheme was supported by the Kolb learning style inventory (LSI). Finally, they came up with the idea of a questionnaire. They gathered eighty questions together, containing four different learning styles along with characteristics of the person/s that might fit in. The image below represents the theory along with the learning styles produced. (workpress.com, 2011) Many people will argue that the theory discussed is `not a psychometric instrument, but a checklist about how people learn`; furthermore, it could expose the `danger of labelling people as theorists or pragmatists, when most people exhibit more than one strong preferences (F.Coffield, 2004, p. 28). Perhaps that every individual from this Planet is different and unique, this is a fact. The same like being different means that we have diverse ways of perception towards new concepts and ideas (learning in general). However, we all have similar ways of approaching and understanding, therefore learning. The two theorists did not necessarily intended to say that certain people have certain learning styles; conceivably, they just wanted to help people recognize themselves and other people around them in order to learn and work more efficiently. A useful example to help understand this concept better is how we learn to use a new piece of technology. We can approach it either by sitting alone, reading instructions from beginning to end before or take a 'hands on' approach like pressing the different controls to discover through trial and error or learn by seeing others using the same. This example helps to reflect about how learning preferences vary among individuals. This said however, circumstances may also determine how each person learns something new. Such examples help us to think about how we have preferences for the manner in which we learn. Thus, understanding learning styles approaches helps us to consider an individual's dominant or preferred way of thinking in turn helping us to learn better in lesser time. HISTORY OF LEARNING STYLES Early History: In the beginning, research focused on the relationship between memory and oral or visual methods. In 1904, Alfred Binet, a French psychologist, developed the first intelligence test, which spawned interest in individual differences. The study of learning styles was the next step: In 1907, Dr. Maria Montessori, who invented the Montessori Method of education, began using materials to enhance the learning styles of her students. Dr. Montessori believed that students do not demonstrate mastery of subjects through a multiple–choice answer sheet, but through their actions.

Learning Styles And The Learning Style In this essay I will be exploring the importance of learning styles and the effectiveness of them to student nurses, providing evidence from learning theories and also acknowledging David Kolb's experiential cycle (1984). Furthermore, I will be discussing my dominant learning style, providing the advantages and disadvantages of my learning style on my learning and development, considering the various ways I can improve my learning. I will also explain my weaker learning style and express the different ways I can improve it, in making it an effective learning style for me to improve the quality of my learning. The Oxford dictionary of English (2010) defines learning as "the acquisition of knowledge or skills through study, experience or being taught". Each individual has their own preferred style of learning, for example some individuals may prefer visual learning rather than text–based learning (Hughes, 2002). Due to each individual having and understanding their own preferred method of learning, this helps them to process information and learning new things. Throughout the years many have studied how people learn. Knowing this, there are different types of learning. There are three types of learning styles, Visual, Aural and Kinesthetic according to The Twin Cycle Experimental Learning Model: Reconceptulizing Kolb's Theory. Different learning styles have always impacted our lives although it may be more relevant due to test scores and lecture studies. Whereas in the article Teaching Very Large Classes, professors give their own opinions on the struggle of attending to the needs of very large class sizes. People don't use the different learning styles, Visual, Kinesthetic and Auditory, to their advantage. In particular, my first article examined all learning styles and even broke them down further from just Kinesthetic, Auditory and Visual to six different types. This proving the three to be dominant with people they experimented with. • 69. Learning Styles Research Paper What Is Your Learning Style? The way that an individual learns can shape their entire life. I personally struggle when it comes to learning topics within math and sciences. After reading about the different learning styles I understand better as to why that is. It is common sense that everyone is different, so it makes sense that we all learn differently. There are eight learning styles that were outlined and discussed in the textbook. While reading and researching about them I was able to easily put each of the learning styles into three categories: (1) I have those characteristics, (2) I have some of those characteristics, and (3) I am definitely not that. I will discuss more in–depth the styles I feel I do possess which is, interpersonal, verbal, and intrapersonal. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Learning Styles And Their Application Various Learning Styles and their Application: Connecting Learning Styles to Training and Development Katie Gardner Kennesaw State University Abstract This paper examines three models of learning styles including Kolb Experiential Learning Model, the VARK model, and the Honey and Mumford model. While the research on these three learning style models details both strengths and weaknesses, an alternative is suggested and explored in this paper. The methods by which each model is measured are also explained in this paper; they include the Learning Styles Inventory (LSI) and the Learning Styles Questionairre (LSQ) and correlate to the Kolb model and the Honey and Mumford model. Using the information discovered concerning the research of learning styles, the relevance and use of the models is then examined in the context of the field of training and development. • 77. Teaching Styles And Methods Rather Than Learning This class was very interesting, and different from other youth ministry classes that I have taken. In this class we discussed more about teaching styles and methods rather than learning about how to deal with adolescents. For me this class really helped me to become more confident that I can be a youth minister. To help relate this experience for me into a paper I will discuss the different historical elements of how to religiously teach, the learning styles, and some of the things that I will take with me as I go out into the field. The history of religious education is very intense; according to Models of Religious Education, religious education starts in the early 19th century . This model is called "The Historic Prototype of Religious Education." This model is concerned with giving more of a divine message. For me this is not a type of education that I would use. While, I believe that the divinity of Jesus is important I feel like there is many more things that need to be discussed than the divinity of Jesus. The next model that Burgess bring up is "The Classical Liberal Model of Religious Education," which comes around at about 1910. This method is focuses on being saved through society. This is a strange topic because it is hard to think about someone being saved because of society, especially with today's society. However, what they do is teach children to create a social atmosphere where society can be saved. This method still steams strange to me ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
