Reflection Paper On Gym
The Dreaded Gym Class I don't really enjoy exercise, the sweating, being out of breath etc.
Therefore, I would never guess that a high school gym class would influence how I would be
spending the rest of my life. Well, it never changed my opinion on exercise, but it did help me
discover a passion for education and how people should be treated. I always assumed that I would
be a vet, healing animals and having customers come from far and wide. However, around the age
of twelve, I realized you have to be willing to put animals down in order to do that job. Shortly, I
decided that I need to rethink my career choice. The gym is unwelcoming as ever despite the school
colors being flaunted on every surface in the large room. A cold draft of air blows through as the
smooth wooden doors swing open, letting out the odor of the hard work that the basketball team put
in that morning. Two of the four walls are lined with yellow–ish bleachers which doe eyed students
fill. As I walk, my head hangs low enough I can see my reflection on the floor mocking my shyness.
Now I'm truly noticing the assembly of other students, each one looks as nervous as the next. This
class is not the classic gym class. No running miles or the panic of dodgeball, just a class to
integrate students that have special needs with their peers. In time, we are handed a packet that just
came off the printer. Its warmth contrasting to the overall temperature of the room. A lecture starts

The Obesity Epidemic Of The United States Essay
Campaign to end obesity
Obesity continues to be a problem in the United States. With obesity rates on the rise something
must be done to prevent this massive issue. Seventeen percent of children and adolescents about
12.5 million are obese (Diet). Obesity is the result of a rise in fat that accumulated over time due to
the lack of exercise and having a calorie surplus due to unhealthy food. An adult with a BMI (body
mass index) higher than 30% is considered to be obese (Obesity). There isn't a direct focus on
obesity, because people don't think it's an important issue. To ensure a better future, solution is
needed now. The solution to ending the obesity epidemic by encouraging a healthier lifestyle on
children at young ages, improving nutrition at schools and restaurants, as well as providing more
time and space for citizens to get physically active.
The best way to begin a change in health in America is to start with encouraging a healthy lifestyle
for the younger generation. The United States has one of the largest percentiles of overweight/obese
children in the world. The public clearly knows this, but is failing to take action. The parents are
responsible for the future of their kids; they should take action early in securing a healthy future for
them. This can be done requiring all students in school to be part of some sort of sport in school or
outside; like a recreational league. It's up to the parents to take responsibility for this and make sure

Obesity : A Growing Problem
Introduction: 1 Obesity is a chronic, widespread disease that is affecting more children, adolescents
and adults than ever before. In America, obesity rates in children have doubled and tripled in
adolescents since 1980 and additionally, 15 percent of children between 6 and 19 are overweight
and more than 60 percent of adults are overweight are obese. Additionally, the prevalence of a BMI
greater than or equal to 40 had quadrupled from 1986 and 2000 and clinically severe obesity is
become prevalent at a faster rate than regular obesity (Griffin, Morgan). This is a major problem that
needs to be addressed because health care professionals have observed obesity–related health risks
like early onset of Type 2 diabetes, respiratory problems, cancer, depression, and cardiovascular
disease and the longer someone is obese, the more serious these factors become. The USPIRC
article mentions that 85% percent of people with diabetes have type 2 and 90% of those people are
obese or overweight ("Stop Subsidizing Obesity"). Additional health risks include infertility, skin
problems, chronic musculoskeletal problems, and osteoarthritis, a primary cause of disability in
adults. This affects people of all ages and since obesity is difficult to treat and is associated with
chronic diseases, the prevention of it is very vital (Wilding, John). As a country, we need to work
towards eliminating obesity because people will be healthier, more productive, and it will save lots
of money

What Does A Sport And Whether Or Not Cheerleading Should...
When someone tells you to think of a sport I'm sure the first thing that comes to mind is football, or
basketball, or maybe baseball. But what about cheerleading? When you think of cheerleading do
you just think of it as an activity that consists of chants on the sidelines with big pom–poms, or do
you think of it as a sport with extreme stunting such as tumbling, mounting, and tossing? The
question of whether or not cheerleading is or should be recognized as an official sport has been
debated since 1997 and still makes its way to court every few years. Throughout this research paper
I will explore the question of what defines a sport and whether or not cheerleading should be
considered one.
Currently there are three different types of cheerleading you can participate in. The first form of
cheerleading is Sideline Cheerleading (High School/ College Cheer). Sideline cheerleading's
primary purpose is to serve as support group for athletic programs in the school, as well as
entertaining the crowd through cheers, stunts, and dance. Competitive Cheerleading (All–star/
College Cheer) is the second form of cheerleading and can be a mix of school squads and all–star
gym squads. For competitive cheerleading you compete against other squads or gyms with a two
minute and thirty second routine. In these routines, the cheerleaders perform extreme tricks and
higher level stunting and tumbling than sideline cheer in hopes of getting the highest scores
possible. The last form of

The Role Of Crime In America
When we think of crime in the United States we think of violent muggings, shootings, grand theft
auto, the high profile headline grabbing crimes that make the nightly new. We do not think of the
humdrum crime of home invasion but we should: there is two million home burglaries a year in the
U.S. 30% of these happen due to complacency. We say complacency because the thief is able to gain
entry into the home through an unlocked door or window. This is also a topic that should be at the
forefront of our minds because the highest percentages of burglaries happen during the summer
months. This statistic is not hard to reason out: children are out of school, people are more apt to go
on vacation and with the rise of social media posting thieves

Reflective Essay About Physical Education
Physical education and health are the most essential classes because they are the only ones capable
of lengthening one's life through establishing habits of healthy living. Upon overhearing my high
school gym and health teacher state this, I began to consider how the statement relates to my
identity as an athlete. Also, I smiled and thought to myself, I can't wait to tell my mom what he just
said! Now I can support my love for gym class and dreadful attitude toward other courses.
Throughout my life, the term athletic consistently has been used to describe me. From the age of
seven to thirteen, my brothers and I attended a summer camp, called Crossroads. Incorporated
within the eight–hour day was snack time, choice time, lunch time, a biblical lesson, song singing,
small groups, and a sports session. Before the day officially began, during choice time, and the
sports session, I delighted in playing sports and competing alongside peers and counselors. At the
end of our last ever day of camp, the counselors held an impromptu graduation where they handed
out some awards and displayed their gratitude for witnessing our growth and contributions over the
years. Jake Veenstra, called out one of the head counselors. Shocked and bashful, I slowly walked
up to the stage confused by what I was recognized for while my face quickly transformed into
deeper tones of red. Eventually, I made it up to the stage and read the award. Most Versatile

General Fink Case Study
The wall clock time approached 2AM, as General Fink's sleep–deprived three staff members were
finishing the touches on his report. They knew that their four–star General would be reviewing it at
zero–seven hundred. So, hours begun to matter. General Fink's commander, the General of the
Army, along with his six counterparts would soon be scrutinizing the Hawkeye report at zero–nine
hundred. Which left no room for discrepancies. Amid the affluent D.C. residences of Prospect
Heights, there was a subterranean control center located under the General's unassuming two–story
brownstone. This windowless basement hid its operational aspect of intelligence gathering around
the clock. Hawkeye was a code name known to a select few. One computer monitor ... Show more

However, there was one more event that would make religion the forefront of his life. Consequently,
Montgomery's transformation into the world of evangelical religion did not occur until the age of

Obese Children Working Out
People need to use obese children's emotional problems as a way to help the child lose weight.
Obese children struggle with making friends and keeping up with other children, however, people
can use this to their advantage to help the child become healthy. Children with these emotional
problems have numerous emotions buried in them, and people can use this to make a child work
harder. The child can physically work through all of the emotional and social struggles they have
been through. Working out can be an outlet for the obese child to let all their frustrations out. By

Cheerleading Essay
It's been phenomenal. Better than I ever expected, within five years, this is going to be the norm
just because it makes sense, says head coach at University of Maryland, Lura Fleece, when
referring to the sport of cheerleading (Drehs). Although cheerleading has developed into a thriving
activity, with determined athletes, demanding practice hours, and astounding bravery most of the
world still does not give it the credit it deserves in the world of sports. In the past 20 years, the
activity has developed into a worldwide, athletic phenomenon with competitive events of its own

The competitive squad is only allowed to have a 144 day season and the coaches have strict
recruiting laws that they must follow. All of the funding and benefits for the competition

comparison to the non–competitive squad the competitive athletes get better scholarships, and have
access to academic advisors, locker rooms, on site trainers and strength coaches (Drehs). Because of
this divide in the teams, the University of Maryland attracts more qualified coaches with better
benefits than most, and they are recruiting more athletes and winning national championships every
year. The split in the spirit team and the competitive team allows the cheerleading to receive benefits
of other sports programs therefore allowing the cheerleading coaches to have a more flexible budget
and can put more money into recruiting athletes. Most college cheerleading coaches must fundraise
in order to hold recruiting clinics and tryouts, but the coaches at schools that have already split the

Success is an event that accomplishes its intended purpose. Success can and does mean different

Accomplishments don't have to be a big hurrah moment, it could simply be a thought of wow, I
actually did it. I've had my fair share of large and simple triumphs, but they've all been moments

Turns out I didn't; I got an F'. Mrs. Gitzen called me over to her desk and told me I could retake it

Overflowing with confidence, I retook the test and without a doubt got an A+. That day I realized

Graduation Speech
Take a deep breath, walk out in front of that gymnasium full of kids, and show them who you
really are. I assured myself. Believe it or not, you can make a difference. Even the most invisible
people have a voice as loud as a lion's roar. All you have to do is take that first step and believe in
yourself.
It was the second month of my junior year when I decided that I wanted to make a difference. I had
always been the blackbird in a school full of robins, but I was never alone. There were plenty of us
outcasts wandering the hallways, shuffling our feet, just trying to make it through another day
without being noticed. However, we stayed in the shadows, trying to remain hidden, even from our
own kind. I remember sitting with only one person at lunch for three years, never reaching out to
anyone, and never being drawn in by anyone.
One chilly day in October, I glanced around the cafeteria noticing the numerous tables taken up by
one or two people each. This was when it hit me how alone they must feel; I felt alone and they
were just like me. I went home that night, took out a notebook, and began writing everything that I
wished I had the nerve to stand up and say to everyone. To tell them that they're not alone, to tell
them that they would always have a place where they belong, to tell them to stop being afraid to
show themselves, and to tell them that even though they may think they're a nobody, they do have a
voice. I had finally written out everything after five pages,

Examples Of Cultural Differences In The United States
In the United States of America, there are a lot of cultural differences compared to other countries.
These cultural differences could vary from different types of healthcare provided by their
government, choice of food, and attitude. It has been about fifteen years now that I have lived in the
United States of America and I have noticed a lot of cultural differences that the US has the is a lot

Health Disparities In San Joaquin County
A variety of challenges including personal, social, economic, and environmental factors can
determine the health of an individual as well as its community. Others determinants of health
include genetics, access to medical care, and socioeconomic measures such as education and
poverty. Any interference among these factors can often lead to health disparities, which are health
gaps that exist between different communities and populations. Health disparities can affect
communities based on gender, age, race, social status, economic status, or special care needs.
Therefore to understand which factors affect the health of a community, it is necessary to examine

You Can Never Predict What Life Is Going At You
You can never predict what life is going to throw at you. Until I was about 9 years old, I lived in
Groves, Texas which was located by the Gulf of Mexico. Groves was a small town, so small that I
had to go to school in Port Arthur, the city right next to Groves. I had a small house and a big
backyard with lots of trees. My dad also kept a small ship and a boat in our yard, and I always
thought about what it might be like to board the ship. My days would be spent playing with my little
sister and hanging out in the yard, exploring every inch of our lawn. One hot September day, I was

the car was so packed I had to move in awkward positions to get comfortable and use cardboard

Childhood Obesity : Looking For The Future
Early Childhood Obesity; Looking to the Future Many studies have shown the increasing trend in
early childhood obesity over the past few decades. But in recent years that trend has begun to level
out and even decrease in some cases. In this paper, these trends will discussed along with the health
implications that follow childhood obesity, how big of a problem it has become, as well as how to
fix the problem and what we can do in the future to prevent this problem. History In the past fat
children were considered to be healthy. It was believed that they would have the nourishment they
would need to fight off infections, malnourishment, and any dieses that a child could face (Ebbeling,
Pawlak, Ludwig, 2002). However, past generations were more active including walking to and
from school, playing at recess outside, and had gym classes along with extra–curricular actives.
With gym classes being shortened or cut from children's daily schedules and the availability of
buses as transportation to school, there has been a drop in activity in early childhood. While
overweight and obesity can have a variety of definitions, making it hard to compare different
studies, it is still very obvious that childhood obesity rates have been on the rise since at least the
1970's according to Ebbeling et al. (2002) and Farley Dowell (2014). According to Ebbeling et al.
(2002) the highest rates of early childhood obesity are found in Egypt, England, and the United
States ranked

emphasis on its many holidays and traditions. The food includes staples of corn and
wheat tortillas, beans, rice, tomatoes chili peppers, and chorizo. Fuel and mining
account for a large piece of the GDP in Mexico, and manufacturing has become a
growing industry for the country as well. In this case we will discuss globalization effects
and how culture has affected some of the HR policies in Mexican society today.

Studies have shown that people living in areas with the least exposure to globalization

Baby Boomers Research Paper
Baby Boomers
Introduction:
Baby Boomers have greatly impacted and shaped society to what it is today. Specifically health
care, social issues, and the market place. All these things will immensely effect upcoming
generations' lives.
Who are Baby Boomers?
Baby boomers are adults born in 1946–1964, and the largest demographic in America with around
76 million. They are the children born to parents who served in WWII. After WWII the increase in
wages spurred the belief that they could afford many children. When in reality they could at the
time, but not for long. Now, many boomers will be lower class because of mortgage debt and health
care costs. Boomers are reaching their retirement age soon meaning they will depend heavily on the

in a time when conservatives were becoming more tolerant. Boomers and their family are becoming
less likely to be a part of religious institutions. Boomers are responsible for being the most lenient
for gay and POC equality and women's rights. Without Boomers many laws that protest POC, gays,
and women would not exist. Boomers daily life include exercising at the gym and adult adventure
programs. They are also the main market for plays and concerts. Their influence has shaped
mainstream music to where it is today. The Baby Boomers reached their retirement age in 2011.
Boomers plan to move to southern and western cities. Many Boomers wish to own a second home
for their second home for their personal retirement after paying off their first house. Climate, cost,
and health care are the most important aspects for moving Boomers. Boomers are the highest
earners in The United States. This contributes to 77% of wealth in America.

Obesity Is The Number One Health Problem Of The 21st Century
Over the years, America has become an obese nation. The Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC) affirms that obesity is the number one health problem of the 21st century. Two–
thirds of states in America have adult obesity rates about 25% (Snaric, 2010). There are many
factors that contribute to Americas obesity including, socioeconomics, fast food, and emotional
influences. Socioeconomics is the interaction of social and economic factors (Merriam–Webster).
Socioeconomics is linked to obesity because it causes individuals with less money to become more
likely to be overweight. Low–income families have a higher rate of obesity. A study found that
35.3% of adults who earn less than $15,000 a year in salary are obese. This study is compared with
24.5% of adults who earn $50,000 or more a year who are obese (Snaric, 2010). It is easier for
families with low income to find deals on junk food rather than nutritious foods. Sociologists also
found that poor neighborhoods are more likely to only have convenient stores near them, thus
making it easy for families to buy food without having to worry about travel money. However,
convenient stores are filled with junk foods that are loaded with sugar and empty calories. Junk food
gives low–income families more food for their money as opposed to healthy foods (Snaric, 2010).
Dr. Adam Drewnowski of University of Washington studied that foods produced by subsidized
crops, like French fries and soda, cost five times less

Obesity : A Global Health Issue
American Obesity
Mary R. Hoyle
Western Governors University
American Obesity
Obesity is a medical condition in human beings, in which the body overproduces body fats, to such
an extent that the excess body fats which usually accumulates within the body, can lead to other
health problems like increase in body size or the thickening of blood vessels, which may eventually
lead to heart attack or high blood pressure. Obesity is a global health issue, but it's mostly common
in the west, due to the kind of life style the people live. Obese people are usually stigmatized by the
society due to their health status, meaning they are viewed as being in trouble. Whether obesity is a
cause or reason for such stigma, is however debatable (Vogel, 2007).
In the United States, obesity was not a major problem until the 1980s when it was viewed as a
national epidemic. In the 1990s, scholars and researchers struggled to look for the causes of obesity
with some scholars postulating that it could be caused by a virus which behaves like the HIV virus,
while others in 2007 theorized that it could be caused by the influence of individuals by their family
members to over eat, thereby becoming obese (Ibsen2006).
The fact about obesity in the United States is that it is one of the highest in the world, and has been
on the increase since the late 1990s.As of 2007, about 74% of all the adults were either obese or
overweight .The problem of obesity comes with high financial costs to the United

Changing Eating Habits United States is the leading country on obesity where the poor people is
obese and not the rich people. Young people are more propense to have bad eating habits because
bad food is economic and easy to eat than healthy food. Obese has increased over the years and a

unhealthy food and subsidizing vegetables, also they should be a law that makes food industries to

Cheerleading is the sport that test athletes physical and mental abilities. Most people ask what do
cheerleaders do? Well that is a simple question to most, they cheer. Yes they do cheer, but
cheerleaders do way more than most people think. They define gravity. Cheerleadings' roots are
closely tied to American football 's. The first intercollegiate game was played in 1869, between
Princeton University and Rutgers University in New Jersey, and by the 1880s (varsity.com). The
question today is whether or not cheerleading is safe or harmful to athletes.

Athletes who play in other contact sports will argue and say that cheerleaders do not do anything to

one; individuals with type two does not show any symptoms. It is believed that type two diabetes is

experiencing pregnancy, and stress are predisposing factors. Both diseases are equally as dangerous
they can lead to the amputation of limbs, heart disease, or loss of eyesight (WebMD, 2015).

Owens was a sickly child, and was often troubled by his chronic bronchial and pneumonia. Despite
this fact, he was still expected to start working from age 7, and would pick up to 100 pounds of
cotton per day so that his family could get by. When he was just 9 years old, he and his family
moved from their home in Oakville, Alabama, to Cleveland, Ohio for better opportunities. When
Owens changed schools and was introducing himself to his teacher, he said that his name was J.C
Owens, however because of his southern origin, he also had a thick southern accent, and because of
this the teacher interpreted his name to be Jesse Owens, and from then on it stuck with him. As
Owens grew older his sheer athleticism and running ability was noticed by his gym teacher, Charles
Riley. Riley observed young Jesse Owens from afar for about a year, and when Owens was 13 years
old Riley approached him and asked him if he would like to run in high school. Owens nodded his
head in agreement, in shock that a white man would have paid him any attention, and from this
point forward Owens would proceed to simply flat out dominate track and field events. He set his
first records in 1928 as he shattered records for junior high school high jump and long jump. While
he was attending the East Technical High School, he gained national attention, setting records for
the 100 and 200 yard sprints, as well as the long jump. Furthermore he achieved first place in 75 out
of 79 track meets, and single handedly won his school the state championship. After an
overwhelmingly successful junior high and high school career, Jesse Owens proceeded to apply to
Ohio State University, where he would continue his habit of dominance. At this time, the United
States was not desegregated, so as a result Jesse Owens was forced to live off campus away from his

I walked into the high school gym 15 minutes before it started. I was ready to kill it. I could already

offseason preparing and working in order to make the team I'd wanted to play on during my
freshman year. The previous day, I had worked hard, but not as hard as I could. I promised myself
that I would prove to the coach and myself that I was worthy of making the junior varsity team and
playing on it. That day, Coach Wiley told us that only 12 people would make each team. Those
words made me freeze up because I was so nervous. To start the second day, Coach Taylor was
tossing balls to pass and I worked as hard as I ever could to make each and every forearm pass

My Most Memorable Moment
Fencing is , in technical terms , the sport of fighting with rapiers (swords) in order to score points
against an opponent, to me, it's simply the art of sword fighting. My most memorable moment
happened to me, during my junior year in high school ( when I was still fencing in my free time ). I
and some of my fencing class entered a tournament called The Golden Gate International which
took place in the gym of a State University. I still remember when my dad and I finally got to the
gym, I was ecstatic, from the outside the gym looked more like a convention center. The tournament
took place on the indoor basketball court ( which got divided into several sections for multiple
matches ) was massive, almost twice the size of my high school gym. There were rows of seats on
both side of the gym, and even stairs and a elevator that led to a balcony like, second floor where
you could get a bird's eye view of the whole gym.
I had six matches that day, and surprising the match where I lost is the not the most memorable. My
most memorable match took place around 3 hours into the tournament, mainly because of the
experience with the referee. The first thing I noticed was that the referee looked like he was
completely pulled from the crowd, almost like someone's father. Still, he seems rather confident and
has the tough look of an ex–military guy, so I'm appropriately intimidated. The First touch was a

The health concern will be a relevant and validated health concern for the community indicated. The
relevancy was determined by the Health People 2020 (HP2020) health indicators and the validation
of the concern was compared to past objectives being met and current objectives working forward,

I chose this population due to the large numbers, the poverty level, and the risk for obesity.
Statistically, the Hispanic/Latino school aged population rated one of the lowest populations to be
physically fit. They also ranked lower on fruit and vegetable consumption. Hispanic/Latinos also
have a very low prevalence of higher education compared to the other races and ethnicities. They
also rank highest in languages other than English spoken at home (Healthy Kern County:: Better
health through community, 2015). If there is a high adult obesity problem, children are at risk
because they are at the mercy of the adult food choices and activity examples they set, because it is
usually the adults purchasing the food in the home. Contributing factors to the risk for overweight or
obesity, the low fruit and vegetable intake, and the low activity can be attributed to cultural norms,
language barriers, and lack of money to buy healthier options. Other factors include unsafe
neighborhoods and lack of activity outside of school and ease of purchasing less healthy foods. The
change in the education system over the years has led to decreased activity time. Attention to test
scores has taken precedence over teaching about health (Espinosa–Hall et al., 2007). Also, in Kern

The rise of the U.S. health club industry can be traced back to the 1980s and 1990s when the
majority of health clubs emerged. By 2004, this $14 billion industry claimed 41 million members.
Although the health club industry operated in a perfectly competitive market, several prominent key

Analysis
A number of recognizable key factors are responsible for the rise of the health club phenomenon.
The most notable factor was the growing concern of people's overall health and well–being.
Awareness about the impact of obesity–related diseases on the quality of life and available health
resources was heightened, especially following a statement issued by the Surgeon General's office,
which estimated the annual mortality resulting from obesity complications to be over a quarter of a
million. Further research at the time showed about 6 in 10 American adults were overweight or
obese, with only 4 in 10 adults falling within the healthy people indicator bracket. Between 1964
and 2004, 28 Surgeon General's reports had been issued, all of which described the epidemiology

the U.S. population becoming more enthusiastically committed to fitness activities, with 63%

Gym Reflection Leads to Education Passion

  • 1. Reflection Paper On Gym The Dreaded Gym Class I don't really enjoy exercise, the sweating, being out of breath etc. Therefore, I would never guess that a high school gym class would influence how I would be spending the rest of my life. Well, it never changed my opinion on exercise, but it did help me discover a passion for education and how people should be treated. I always assumed that I would be a vet, healing animals and having customers come from far and wide. However, around the age of twelve, I realized you have to be willing to put animals down in order to do that job. Shortly, I decided that I need to rethink my career choice. The gym is unwelcoming as ever despite the school colors being flaunted on every surface in the large room. A cold draft of air blows through as the smooth wooden doors swing open, letting out the odor of the hard work that the basketball team put in that morning. Two of the four walls are lined with yellow–ish bleachers which doe eyed students fill. As I walk, my head hangs low enough I can see my reflection on the floor mocking my shyness. Now I'm truly noticing the assembly of other students, each one looks as nervous as the next. This class is not the classic gym class. No running miles or the panic of dodgeball, just a class to integrate students that have special needs with their peers. In time, we are handed a packet that just came off the printer. Its warmth contrasting to the overall temperature of the room. A lecture starts on confidentiality ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. The Obesity Epidemic Of The United States Essay Campaign to end obesity Obesity continues to be a problem in the United States. With obesity rates on the rise something must be done to prevent this massive issue. Seventeen percent of children and adolescents about 12.5 million are obese (Diet). Obesity is the result of a rise in fat that accumulated over time due to the lack of exercise and having a calorie surplus due to unhealthy food. An adult with a BMI (body mass index) higher than 30% is considered to be obese (Obesity). There isn't a direct focus on obesity, because people don't think it's an important issue. To ensure a better future, solution is needed now. The solution to ending the obesity epidemic by encouraging a healthier lifestyle on children at young ages, improving nutrition at schools and restaurants, as well as providing more time and space for citizens to get physically active. The best way to begin a change in health in America is to start with encouraging a healthy lifestyle for the younger generation. The United States has one of the largest percentiles of overweight/obese children in the world. The public clearly knows this, but is failing to take action. The parents are responsible for the future of their kids; they should take action early in securing a healthy future for them. This can be done requiring all students in school to be part of some sort of sport in school or outside; like a recreational league. • 3. Obesity : A Growing Problem Introduction: 1 Obesity is a chronic, widespread disease that is affecting more children, adolescents and adults than ever before. In America, obesity rates in children have doubled and tripled in adolescents since 1980 and additionally, 15 percent of children between 6 and 19 are overweight and more than 60 percent of adults are overweight are obese. Additionally, the prevalence of a BMI greater than or equal to 40 had quadrupled from 1986 and 2000 and clinically severe obesity is become prevalent at a faster rate than regular obesity (Griffin, Morgan). This is a major problem that needs to be addressed because health care professionals have observed obesity–related health risks like early onset of Type 2 diabetes, respiratory problems, cancer, depression, and cardiovascular disease and the longer someone is obese, the more serious these factors become. The USPIRC article mentions that 85% percent of people with diabetes have type 2 and 90% of those people are obese or overweight ("Stop Subsidizing Obesity"). Additional health risks include infertility, skin problems, chronic musculoskeletal problems, and osteoarthritis, a primary cause of disability in adults. This affects people of all ages and since obesity is difficult to treat and is associated with chronic diseases, the prevention of it is very vital (Wilding, John). As a country, we need to work towards eliminating obesity because people will be healthier, more productive, and it will save lots of money ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. What Does A Sport And Whether Or Not Cheerleading Should... When someone tells you to think of a sport I'm sure the first thing that comes to mind is football, or basketball, or maybe baseball. But what about cheerleading? When you think of cheerleading do you just think of it as an activity that consists of chants on the sidelines with big pom–poms, or do you think of it as a sport with extreme stunting such as tumbling, mounting, and tossing? The question of whether or not cheerleading is or should be recognized as an official sport has been debated since 1997 and still makes its way to court every few years. Throughout this research paper I will explore the question of what defines a sport and whether or not cheerleading should be considered one. Currently there are three different types of cheerleading you can participate in. The first form of cheerleading is Sideline Cheerleading (High School/ College Cheer). Sideline cheerleading's primary purpose is to serve as support group for athletic programs in the school, as well as entertaining the crowd through cheers, stunts, and dance. Competitive Cheerleading (All–star/ College Cheer) is the second form of cheerleading and can be a mix of school squads and all–star gym squads. For competitive cheerleading you compete against other squads or gyms with a two minute and thirty second routine. In these routines, the cheerleaders perform extreme tricks and higher level stunting and tumbling than sideline cheer in hopes of getting the highest scores possible. The last form of ... Upon overhearing my high school gym and health teacher state this, I began to consider how the statement relates to my identity as an athlete. Also, I smiled and thought to myself, I can't wait to tell my mom what he just said! Now I can support my love for gym class and dreadful attitude toward other courses. Throughout my life, the term athletic consistently has been used to describe me. From the age of seven to thirteen, my brothers and I attended a summer camp, called Crossroads. Incorporated within the eight–hour day was snack time, choice time, lunch time, a biblical lesson, song singing, small groups, and a sports session. Before the day officially began, during choice time, and the sports session, I delighted in playing sports and competing alongside peers and counselors. At the end of our last ever day of camp, the counselors held an impromptu graduation where they handed out some awards and displayed their gratitude for witnessing our growth and contributions over the years. Jake Veenstra, called out one of the head counselors. Better than I ever expected, within five years, this is going to be the norm just because it makes sense, says head coach at University of Maryland, Lura Fleece, when referring to the sport of cheerleading (Drehs). Although cheerleading has developed into a thriving activity, with determined athletes, demanding practice hours, and astounding bravery most of the world still does not give it the credit it deserves in the world of sports. Because of this divide in the teams, the University of Maryland attracts more qualified coaches with better benefits than most, and they are recruiting more athletes and winning national championships every year. The split in the spirit team and the competitive team allows the cheerleading to receive benefits of other sports programs therefore allowing the cheerleading coaches to have a more flexible budget and can put more money into recruiting athletes. Most college cheerleading coaches must fundraise in order to hold recruiting clinics and tryouts, but the coaches at schools that have already split the program have the money in their budget from the school. Most people agree that accomplishing the goals that they set for themselves is success. My achievements have ranged from being a learner to just being me. Accomplishments don't have to be a big hurrah moment, it could simply be a thought of wow, I actually did it. I've had my fair share of large and simple triumphs, but they've all been moments that have made me into who I am today. Although I was a happy, fat kid, I knew I wanted to lose weight before I got into middle school. I set a goal of losing at least twenty pounds. That summer I joined a basketball, soccer, martial arts, and swimming camp. I was up at five in the morning and home by ten at night. Even the most invisible people have a voice as loud as a lion's roar. All you have to do is take that first step and believe in yourself. It was the second month of my junior year when I decided that I wanted to make a difference. I had always been the blackbird in a school full of robins, but I was never alone. There were plenty of us outcasts wandering the hallways, shuffling our feet, just trying to make it through another day without being noticed. However, we stayed in the shadows, trying to remain hidden, even from our own kind. I remember sitting with only one person at lunch for three years, never reaching out to anyone, and never being drawn in by anyone. One chilly day in October, I glanced around the cafeteria noticing the numerous tables taken up by one or two people each. This was when it hit me how alone they must feel; I felt alone and they were just like me. I went home that night, took out a notebook, and began writing everything that I wished I had the nerve to stand up and say to everyone. To tell them that they're not alone, to tell them that they would always have a place where they belong, to tell them to stop being afraid to show themselves, and to tell them that even though they may think they're a nobody, they do have a voice. • 22. Childhood Obesity : Looking For The Future Early Childhood Obesity; Looking to the Future Many studies have shown the increasing trend in early childhood obesity over the past few decades. But in recent years that trend has begun to level out and even decrease in some cases. In this paper, these trends will discussed along with the health implications that follow childhood obesity, how big of a problem it has become, as well as how to fix the problem and what we can do in the future to prevent this problem. History In the past fat children were considered to be healthy. It was believed that they would have the nourishment they would need to fight off infections, malnourishment, and any dieses that a child could face (Ebbeling, Pawlak, Ludwig, 2002). However, past generations were more active including walking to and from school, playing at recess outside, and had gym classes along with extra–curricular actives. With gym classes being shortened or cut from children's daily schedules and the availability of buses as transportation to school, there has been a drop in activity in early childhood. While overweight and obesity can have a variety of definitions, making it hard to compare different studies, it is still very obvious that childhood obesity rates have been on the rise since at least the 1970's according to Ebbeling et al. (2002) and Farley Dowell (2014). According to Ebbeling et al. (2002) the highest rates of early childhood obesity are found in Egypt, England, and the United States ranked ... • 27. Obesity Is The Number One Health Problem Of The 21st Century Over the years, America has become an obese nation. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) affirms that obesity is the number one health problem of the 21st century. Two– thirds of states in America have adult obesity rates about 25% (Snaric, 2010). There are many factors that contribute to Americas obesity including, socioeconomics, fast food, and emotional influences. Socioeconomics is the interaction of social and economic factors (Merriam–Webster). Socioeconomics is linked to obesity because it causes individuals with less money to become more likely to be overweight. Low–income families have a higher rate of obesity. A study found that 35.3% of adults who earn less than $15,000 a year in salary are obese. This study is compared with 24.5% of adults who earn $50,000 or more a year who are obese (Snaric, 2010). It is easier for families with low income to find deals on junk food rather than nutritious foods. Sociologists also found that poor neighborhoods are more likely to only have convenient stores near them, thus making it easy for families to buy food without having to worry about travel money. However, convenient stores are filled with junk foods that are loaded with sugar and empty calories. Junk food gives low–income families more food for their money as opposed to healthy foods (Snaric, 2010). Hoyle Western Governors University American Obesity Obesity is a medical condition in human beings, in which the body overproduces body fats, to such an extent that the excess body fats which usually accumulates within the body, can lead to other health problems like increase in body size or the thickening of blood vessels, which may eventually lead to heart attack or high blood pressure. Obesity is a global health issue, but it's mostly common in the west, due to the kind of life style the people live. Obese people are usually stigmatized by the society due to their health status, meaning they are viewed as being in trouble. Whether obesity is a cause or reason for such stigma, is however debatable (Vogel, 2007). In the United States, obesity was not a major problem until the 1980s when it was viewed as a national epidemic. In the 1990s, scholars and researchers struggled to look for the causes of obesity with some scholars postulating that it could be caused by a virus which behaves like the HIV virus, while others in 2007 theorized that it could be caused by the influence of individuals by their family members to over eat, thereby becoming obese (Ibsen2006). The fact about obesity in the United States is that it is one of the highest in the world, and has been on the increase since the late 1990s.As of 2007, about 74% of all the adults were either obese or overweight .The problem of obesity comes with high financial costs to the United ... • 37. Jesse Owens Accomplishments Abstract How did attitudes towards Jesse Owens, as well as his successes, and struggles affect the status quo of race in sports. That is the question that this essay attempts to answer, by exploring Owens' early life, to his first success in 1933, to his record setting eight individual NCAA championships, four each in 1935 and 1936, to one of his greatest achievements on May 25, 1935 during the Big Ten meet at Ferry Field in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where he set three world records and tied a fourth. Then moving to arguably some of his most important victories in 1936 when Jesse Owens represented the United States of America in the Summer Olympics held in Berlin, Germany. It is there that he defied the odds by winning 4 gold medals as well as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Owens was a sickly child, and was often troubled by his chronic bronchial and pneumonia. Despite this fact, he was still expected to start working from age 7, and would pick up to 100 pounds of cotton per day so that his family could get by. When he was just 9 years old, he and his family moved from their home in Oakville, Alabama, to Cleveland, Ohio for better opportunities. When Owens changed schools and was introducing himself to his teacher, he said that his name was J.C Owens, however because of his southern origin, he also had a thick southern accent, and because of this the teacher interpreted his name to be Jesse Owens, and from then on it stuck with him. As Owens grew older his sheer athleticism and running ability was noticed by his gym teacher, Charles Riley. Riley observed young Jesse Owens from afar for about a year, and when Owens was 13 years old Riley approached him and asked him if he would like to run in high school. Owens nodded his head in agreement, in shock that a white man would have paid him any attention, and from this point forward Owens would proceed to simply flat out dominate track and field events. He set his first records in 1928 as he shattered records for junior high school high jump and long jump. While he was attending the East Technical High School, he gained national attention, setting records for the 100 and 200 yard sprints, as well as the long jump. Furthermore he achieved first place in 75 out of 79 track meets, and single handedly won his school the state championship. After an overwhelmingly successful junior high and high school career, Jesse Owens proceeded to apply to Ohio State University, where he would continue his habit of dominance. At this time, the United States was not desegregated, so as a result Jesse Owens was forced to live off campus away from his white cohorts, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Descriptive Essay About Basketball I walked into the high school gym 15 minutes before it started. I was ready to kill it. I could already smell the fresh new volleyballs for the upcoming season. It was the last day of junior varsity volleyball tryouts. Hi Amber! exclaimed Taylor, the junior varsity coach. I waved, sat down, and got my shoes and kneepads on. There were many upperclassmen in the gym ready to make the team they had all made the previous year. Honestly, it was pretty intimidating being a freshman surrounded by all of these amazing players. But, I knew I'd be okay because I spent my entire offseason preparing and working in order to make the team I'd wanted to play on during my freshman year. The previous day, I had worked hard, but not as hard as I could. I promised myself that I would prove to the coach and myself that I was worthy of making the junior varsity team and playing on it. That day, Coach Wiley told us that only 12 people would make each team. Those words made me freeze up because I was so nervous. To start the second day, Coach Taylor was tossing balls to pass and I worked as hard as I ever could to make each and every forearm pass perfect. At that point, I was already sweating like a glass of lemonade on a hot day. We then did a hitting drill with freshman and first–year players only. After, we did some setting drills and a few transition drills. Then, it was time for a water break. How do you think you're doing? Ellie whispered. I whispered back, good, I think. Your sets ... • 40. My Most Memorable Moment Fencing is , in technical terms , the sport of fighting with rapiers (swords) in order to score points against an opponent, to me, it's simply the art of sword fighting. My most memorable moment happened to me, during my junior year in high school ( when I was still fencing in my free time ). I and some of my fencing class entered a tournament called The Golden Gate International which took place in the gym of a State University. I still remember when my dad and I finally got to the gym, I was ecstatic, from the outside the gym looked more like a convention center. The tournament took place on the indoor basketball court ( which got divided into several sections for multiple matches ) was massive, almost twice the size of my high school gym. There were rows of seats on both side of the gym, and even stairs and a elevator that led to a balcony like, second floor where you could get a bird's eye view of the whole gym. I had six matches that day, and surprising the match where I lost is the not the most memorable. My most memorable match took place around 3 hours into the tournament, mainly because of the experience with the referee. The first thing I noticed was that the referee looked like he was completely pulled from the crowd, almost like someone's father. Still, he seems rather confident and has the tough look of an ex–military guy, so I'm appropriately intimidated. The First touch was a parry–riposte or a stalemate with two hits on both sides leaving the round up to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I tear through my closet to find an okay fitting shirt that isn't too tight, but doesn't look like I'm hiding something. Trying on virtually every shirt in my wardrobe, I settle on a black polo with brown buttons and a fading collar. It grabs my hips, my stomach, and loose on my chest. Because the photo is only from the chest up, this is the perfect fit. Running five minutes late, I see my reflection in the mirror while I brush my teeth, and realize I can't see my jaw line anymore. I have no defined boarder between my chin and my neck. Trying to change the shape of my face, I button the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Among other changes, my most gratifying moment was when I bought all new clothes, for I had dropped from an XL in shirt size to an S, and my pants went from a 38 inch inseam to a 31 inch inseam. Cka1 Task 3 CKA1 Comm Health Pop–Foc Nurs Prac Community Health and Population Focused Nursing Practice Denise Bishop Western Governors University Abstract This paper will explore a community health concern from a population focused nursing perspective. The health concern will be a relevant and validated health concern for the community indicated. The relevancy was determined by the Health People 2020 (HP2020) health indicators and the validation of the concern was compared to past objectives being met and current objectives working forward, and the gap in satisfying the target goals set forth (2020 Topics Objectives – Objectives A–Z | Healthy People 2020, 2015). A major force in the community of concern is the Kern County Public Health ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I chose this population due to the large numbers, the poverty level, and the risk for obesity. Statistically, the Hispanic/Latino school aged population rated one of the lowest populations to be physically fit. They also ranked lower on fruit and vegetable consumption. Hispanic/Latinos also have a very low prevalence of higher education compared to the other races and ethnicities. They also rank highest in languages other than English spoken at home (Healthy Kern County:: Better health through community, 2015). If there is a high adult obesity problem, children are at risk because they are at the mercy of the adult food choices and activity examples they set, because it is usually the adults purchasing the food in the home. Contributing factors to the risk for overweight or obesity, the low fruit and vegetable intake, and the low activity can be attributed to cultural norms, language barriers, and lack of money to buy healthier options. Other factors include unsafe neighborhoods and lack of activity outside of school and ease of purchasing less healthy foods. The change in the education system over the years has led to decreased activity time. Attention to test scores has taken precedence over teaching about health (Espinosa–Hall et al., 2007). Also, in Kern County, the climate is a contributing factor to outdoor activities, with temperatures in the high 90's and over 100 degrees during the summer (Bakersfield, ... An Analysis of the U.S. Health Club Industry in 2004 and the Role of Bally Total Fitness Executive Summary Introduction The rise of the U.S. health club industry can be traced back to the 1980s and 1990s when the majority of health clubs emerged. By 2004, this $14 billion industry claimed 41 million members. Although the health club industry operated in a perfectly competitive market, several prominent key players gained large market share, including Bally Total Fitness and 24 hour Fitness. This perfect competition encouraged entry of smaller emerging firms into the industry. In 2004, the health club industry consisted of 26,000 clubs in the U.S. Of this growing market, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before long, Bally boasted presence in over 360 outlets in the U.S. and more than 50 internationally. Analysis A number of recognizable key factors are responsible for the rise of the health club phenomenon. The most notable factor was the growing concern of people's overall health and well–being. Awareness about the impact of obesity–related diseases on the quality of life and available health resources was heightened, especially following a statement issued by the Surgeon General's office, which estimated the annual mortality resulting from obesity complications to be over a quarter of a million. Further research at the time showed about 6 in 10 American adults were overweight or obese, with only 4 in 10 adults falling within the healthy people indicator bracket. Between 1964 and 2004, 28 Surgeon General's reports had been issued, all of which described the epidemiology and health consequences of unhealthy behaviors.1. This general awareness resulted in about 17% of the U.S. population becoming more enthusiastically committed to fitness activities, with 63% recognizing the importance of fitness activities and 25% of whom actually attending health fitness clubs. Also, a recent survey showed that 37% of exercisers were motivated by the desire to control weight. Consciousness about body image and the desire to reduce stress and meet new people also had an impact on the health club phenomenon. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
