4. This graph signifies that ‘Eastenders’ and ‘Hollyoaks’ are the
most popular soap opera’s for viewers between the ages of 18
and 24. This is most probably due to the cast members being
relatively young and appealing to modern viewers. Because of
this, the issues presented would be more relatable to a younger
audience.
5. All participants of my survey believe that female viewers are
associated with watching soap operas. This connotes that the TV
genre focuses on issues that appeal to a female audience.
6. This graph connotes that more viewers prefer for soap
operas to focus their narrative on social issues for
entertainment and the ability to relate to the
character’s problems and issues.
7. These results signify that the majority of people
watch soap opera’s just once a week. The
connotations of this suggest that people prefer
the wait between episodes and therefore can look
forward to the following episode.

target audience being women, there should be a female
dominance in the programme when it comes to casting
or character superiority in situations.

drama and that is the feature that keeps the

• From these results, it is evident that my target audience is
that of young adults 18-24 who prefer to watch soap opera’s
with characters of similar age. Because of this, I will make sure
to create a narrative that will appeal to this audience. 83.33%
of individual’s who were questioned enjoyed the drama
aspect of their soap operas. Conventionally, the purpose of
soap operas is create drama from over the top situations. Due
