2. Aim
•When creating my trailer, poster and
magazine cover I tried to make a link
between them through the use of colours,
fonts and mise en scene.
•This meant I was able to show a high level of
continuity, which would help create a brand
for my film making it effective.
3. Colour
• I used a combination of similar colours in all my tasks.
• I tried to use a bright colour palette (red, orange) combined with dark
tones (black, brown) as these colours are used often in action comedy
films: The dark colours connote a sense of mystery and tension, whereas
the bright colours signify not only explosions and danger, but also a more
light-hearted tone to the film in places.
• I also chose these colours because they compliment each other and are
easy to read against the opposite colour.
• Films such as ‘The Expendables’ and ‘Die Hard’ have also used this colour
scheme as it helps create a brand and provide continuity.
• I have also used the colour white as it is easy to read on any background
colour and provides a quality look to the magazine cover.
•
4. Font
•I have used the same font to show the film title on all
three elements, which helps the viewer to easily locate it
and know the film. The font use for the film title is ‘PC.DE
bold’ as it is bold and uses sharp edges to make it stand
out, and I used a drop shadow to make it easy to read.
•This font would be recognisable as being action-comedy
as bold fonts are used in the ‘Inception’ and ‘The Dark
knight’ posters.
5. Mise en scene
• To ensure my products looked the same, I made sure the actors did no
change their appearance, either by changing clothes, getting a haircut or
shaving facial hair.
• The costume worn by the protagonist was the same in the trailer and
throughout the photography process for the poster and magazine cover.
• This helps create continuity and clearly identify certain characters for the
viewer so they are not confused.
• Lighting was also important in order to combine my products:
• I have used both high-key and low-key lighting in my trailer to reflect the
different characters (hero, villain) and I tried to match this in the poster
and cover.
• This can be seen as I have used a vignette on the poster to highlight the
central characters which gives them power.
