God was willing to give their parents the land 40 years earlier but the people were afraid of the inhabitants of that land and they doubted Yahweh.
Thus, they were doomed to wander the desert for forty years and therefore not enter the Promised Land that their children would inherit in Joshua's
time. Joshua was hand picked by God to lead the people into Canaan. Way back in Numbers chapter 13, God shows that he is special by having
Moses change his name from Hoshea to Joshua which means Yahweh saves. When Moses died the Lord told Joshua to take the people and go into
the land that he had chosen for them. This is Yahweh's call for the obedience of Joshua and his people. What is Joshua's reaction? His reaction is found
in Joshua 1:10–11, "So Joshua ordered the officers of the people: 'Go through the camp and tell the people, Three days from now you will cross the

However this is also subject to a counter argument, as perhaps it could be argued that god has endowed us with intellect, so perhaps we are supposed
to use that intellect to discern what our purpose is, in my personal opinion, it is naГЇve to suggest that mankind has a singular purpose, as I believe that
our purpose is ever–changing and exists in a constant state of flux, as our purpose cannot be simply to worship god, or to reproduce, no, I believe
that mankind does not have a singular purpose as such, as is implied in the question, as would god not have endowed us simply with the qualities

successful in battle, this was the aim of the artist of the Arch of Titus. The numbers of people in this relief panel also present Rome as mighty.
Soldiers are overlapped and carved at different densities. There are multiple levels of heads, giving a sense of fullness and business to the sculpture.
The amount of people on this people makes Rome seem intimidating and great. Thirdly, the Arch of Titus presents Rome as well governed and
powerfully led. In honor of Titus, who had died when it was built, this arch presents the ruler well. It shows him as powerful, equal with gods and
fully supported by the senate. To support and reaffirm the people's sense of security in their roman leaders, the sculptor uses techniques to create a
god–like aura around Rome's leaders. Titus is shown celebrating victory, leading a victory procession. He stands on a chariot with a winged victory,

Faith and science have always had their own viewpoints on various subjects. Science is mankind's attempt to understand how something works.
Science is based solely on facts and does not consider anything a true miracle. Scientists believe every effect has a reasonable cause which can be
discovered through scientific means. Those who believe in religion prefer to believe in the Bible and base their opinions on the what the Bible has told
them. They think miracles are definitely possible with the power of God. These are the reasons why faith and science often conflict.
Historical
Conflicts between faith and science go back for thousands of years, most conflicts between faith and science are found in the Bible. There are
many stories in the Bible which faithful people believe in fully, but people who have a more firm belief in science see the Bible as stories which can
be explained through science. A few stories from the Bible which scientists believe could be explained in ways other than just by miracles, are the
creation of Earth and humans, Joshua stopping the sun, Cain being unable to grow crops, and Elisha fixing a poisoned river. Religious people believe
in these and consider them miracles. However, believers in science doubt their authenticity and find ways to disprove the miracles.

The Characters Of Beowulf And Joshua
In the characters of Beowulf and Joshua, we see two different yet great leaders. Beowulf heroically comes to the aid of the Danish king, as well as his
own people. He continually risks his life, performing acts of bravery and slaying monsters. Joshua, on the other hand, is one of the greatest military
leaders of the Old Testament. Successor toMoses, he leads the Israelites in the conquest of the promised land. While his victories were largely a
product of God's miracles, Joshua still displays excellent leadership skills. He is able to balance humility and courageousness excellently, relying both
on his own capabilities and on the fortitude of God. Although these men are both heroic and noble, Beowulf has several character flaws that do not
exist in Joshua. He is proud, believing himself to be superior to those around him. Additionally, he does not seek a advice from anyone, instead
relying solely on his own discretion. While these men are both great, one is clearly a superior leader.
Bravery is one of Beowulf strongest character traits. Time and time again he proves his valor through acts of heroism. Almost immediately upon his
entrance, Beowulf describes some of his past deeds, which include the slaying of nine sea–beasts.(Beowulf 55–86) He abstains from the use of
weapons when he fights Grendel, choosing instead grapple the beast bare–handed. (Beowulf 25–29) This courage once again resurfaces when he braves

would prove useful on this excavation, being both industrious and reliable, her duties would expand beyond taking pictures to overseeing the workers
assisting at the site. After she returned to England, at the completion of the Zimbabwe expedition, Kathleen joined Sir Mortimer Wheeler's staff at his
excavation at Roman Verulamiun (St. Albans), north of London. While there she would study Wheeler's method of stratigraphic excavation. Wheeler's
findings were based on the concept developed by geologist William Smith where materials accumulate on a site through a sequence of layers that

Joshua was the son of Nun of the tribe of Ephraim. His name means "the Lord is salvation." He was born in Egypt around 1530 B.C. He went through
the Passover and the Exodus. On the way from the Wilderness of Sin to Horeb, Joshua was given command of the army at Rephidim. The Amalekites
were a desert tribe that attacked the Israelites and tried to drive them away. The battle was long and lasted until sunset. Their victory varied upon when
Moses raised his arms or lowered them. Aaron and Hur supported Moses throughout the day. They won the battle and a curse and extermination was
sentenced to Amalek.
Joshua accompanied Moses partway up Mt. Sinai when he went to talk to God. He was given a position of prominence at the Tabernacle as Moses'

At their first attempt, a small force was sent out, but they were defeated. It was discovered that Achan had kept some of the spoils from Jericho and he
was punished for it. Afterwards, another attempt was made by a larger force and succeeded.

realized that they had been deceived. The Gibeonites secured their lives and safety, but became menial servants in their lands. When neighboring kings
heard of the treaty, they became angry at Gibeon. They formed a plan to attack Gibeon out of revenge. Learning of this, Gibeon sent for Joshua's help.
He arrived and with his army, the kings were defeated and killed. Joshua commemorated the victory with a song.
As the conquest under Joshua's command ended there was much to be done by future generations. In Joshua 14–21, there is a detailed account of the

Is religion dangerous is a very hard question. Some are some aren't but there is a scale on how dangerous a religion is. There are lots of different
types of dangerous and Why are they dangerous. I am going to answer all of these questions. In my opinion I think that some religions are dangerous
but some are not. I am an Atheist and I personally am very sceptical of some religions and one religion in particular.

In the Old Testament, there are a number of books that contain violent stories that may astonish a first time reader. Some of these stories seem to
encourage not only the slaughtering of enemy armies, but also the murder of innocent civilians including the elderly, women, children and livestock. The
book of Joshua has a multiple of narratives that tell of such events. In chapters six through eleven, God instructs Joshua and his fellow Israelites to

The question of authorship and when Joshua was written is often a point of disagreement among scholars. The only certain thing known about the
author is that it was not Joshua himself (Woudstra 5), although some still hold to this belief. It is more likely that the book was gradually written
down and edited over the course of several generations by several different individuals from both the Deuteronomistic and the Priestly schools. While
it is not certain, recent scholarship strongly suggests that the book was composed during the reign of Hezekiah and Josiah, "about 200 to 600 years

The Real Historical Accuracy of Enigma Most historically based movies try to reenact exactly what happened in the historical events that took place,
while others have added twists to them, like a change in storyline, proving its historical inaccuracy. The 2001 filmEnigma stars Tom Jericho, a British
mathematician who solved the German Enigma code, "shark", the first time around and is called back into Bletchley Park to do it again. While doing
so, he teams up with his ex–girlfriend's roommate, Hester Wallace, to detect why his ex, Claire Romilly, has disappeared and discovered secret
information on the Katyn Forest Massacre and a German spy in the British Intelligence System. This movie is both historically accurate and
inaccurate because the information it provided about the German Enigma, Bletchley Park, and the Katyn Forest Massacre is true, yet some details
behind the characters Jozef Pukowski and Tom Jericho are falsely stated. In reflecting upon the movie, it is obvious the producers were sticking to a
particular agenda in altering storylines related to other historical figures to keep it centered around the British and Germans in order to avoid
confusion while it also presented a new perspective in seeing the significance this Enigma War had to the Allies' success in WW II, even though the

Joshua used his leadership as well as God's instructions to win the Battle of Jericho. During the last attempt to claim the Promised Land, while they
were led by Moses, the Israelites did not obey God, and as a result, they lost the battle, and they had to wait another long forty years to try again in
claiming the Promised Land. This time however, Joshua was determined to follow God's directions perfectly, despite the Israelites not agreeing with

To fully grasp and understand the book of Joshua, it is important to take a look at the historical and cultural context, understand the literary context,
evaluate the text, and find relevance in the passage.
The passage that will be focused on will be Joshua 10:16–27. This passage begins with five Amorite Kings that are discovered and then trapped in a
cave. The kings hide in a cave in Makkedah. Joshua finds where the kings are hiding and then proceeds to give instructions regarding what to do with
the kings. They trap the kings in the cave. Joshua proceeds to tell his troops to continue fighting. Joshua and the Israelites defeat their enemies; there
are few survivors left and the army returns to their leader, Joshua. Joshua then uses the defeat of the five kings as an object lesson for his
commanders. They open the cave, in which the Kings are trapped in, the kings are than named and brought out to Joshua. Joshua summons the
men of Israel and order to place their feet on the King's neck. The commanders do so and Joshua tells his men, "Do not be discouraged. Be strong
and courageous. This is what the LORD will do to all the enemies you are going to fight" (verse 25). The king's bodies are then exposed on poles
and are left there until evening. At sunset Joshua gave orders to take down the poles and throw them into the cave in which the kings were hiding.

In Exodus 14, Moses and the Israelites have become sandwiched between the Egyptian military and the chaotic Reed Sea. Yet YHWH's instruction to
them is not to turn and fight, but rather 'be silent' (Exodus 14:14). YHWH promised to come and fight on their behalf. Fast forward to Deuteronomy
2:26–35, and we get yet another story of Israel and potential military activity. Regardless of whether you read the text as actual warfare taking
place, or that of an ideological battle (of which the argument can be made for), I want to note two things: Moses initially tried to make a peace

Finally, coming to the story just before Ai in the Joshua narrative, we are given the story of the siege of Jericho (Joshua 6). In the Jericho passage, we
see that YHWH is the voice giving Joshua instruction regarding how they are to enter the city. Despite YHWH's instruction, there are multiple
instances in this text where Joshua technically disobeys the voice of YHWH, of which I would ascribe to the resulting destruction. The reason I bring
up Jericho and Heshbon, are because they stand in contrast with the Ai narrative in that, like Egypt and Heshbon, YHWH's voice was present in the
