If I wanted to teach online, I wouldn’t start here
On 12 March 2020, in response to the Covid-19 situation, Taoiseach Leo Varadker announced that all schools, colleges and universities would move online from the next day. The Irish National Digital Experience (INDEx) Survey, carried out in November 2019, indicates that 70% of staff who teach in higher education in Ireland had never taught in a live online environment. This underscores the challenge faced by teaching staff during the “pivot”, using available technologies to complete the academic year.
