Reflection About My Writing Course
At the end of this course, I feel that a lot has improved with my writing. When I first started this
course, I was struggling with a lot of writing mechanisms. One of the things was transition. I was just
writing without thinking of how to connect my thoughts. After completing numerous writing
assignments, I am fully confident with my ability to have a paper that flows. Another thing that I
struggled with was organization. Although I still have a lot of improvement to make, I think this
aspect of my writing has improved. One of the things that helped me immensely was creating an
outline before writing my paper. Another aspect of my writing that also improved has to do with

I learned a very broad variety of English skills in my English 101 class. From the time of doing
research before writing an essay, I wrote from the reader's perspective, considering first what the
reader would be benefited from hearing. I discovered methods of writing so that the reader would

The College Reading Tips handout suggested that someone should skim what they're reading before
actually reading it thoroughly. I found that this piece of advice was very helpful to me and allowed
me to understand readings much more easily. Therefore, I began to regularly skim texts before
reading them thoroughly. The College Reading Tips handout also suggested annotation of texts, and
I therefore regularly began to annotate texts I read: highlighting parts I found notable or wanted to
remember, writing questions and comments about the text in the margins, and circling vocabulary
words to lookup later, then adding in the vocabulary words' definitions. Taking these actions caused
me to understand texts I read better, and furthermore, beyond understanding them, be able to better
analyze texts. Most importantly, I learned to courageously enter the academic conversation in an
appropriate way. I gathered enough information from my research to form an opinion, or a central
idea, on my writing. One of the most important things I learned from the class was that everything
that can be written is persuasive. I also learned how to state my own beliefs, agree, disagree, and

Transitional Writing: Mrs. Dutta And Mollie
In the story, the author has simply transitioned the writing as if it was written in first person point of
view. The transitional thought in the writing felt natural. Often time, the transitional phrase have
occurred during Mrs. Dutta is doing or thinking about something. During those times, the writing

CNE September 10, 2014 Experiencing Transitions: A Theoretical Framework for Practice The
concept of transition involves the process of change that a person experiences when moving from
one stage of life to another. The Experiencing Transition Theory (ETT) developed by Meleis,
Sawyer, Im et al. (2000) may provide a reasonable framework for practice in Nursing
Administration. A review of literature was conducted to identify the source of this theory as well
as examples of how others have used this theory in their research and practice. Additionally five
other concepts were identified that relate to this theory that help build this framework of practice.
These concepts will be defined and their relationship to the theory and each other will be explained.
Review of Literature Dr. Afaf Meleis began her work on the development of the ETT in the
mid–1960s and early 1970s while working on her PhD (IM, 2009, p. 417). In 2000, Dr. Meleis
published the middle range theory ETT which expanded the framework of her earlier work. Meleis et
al. (2000) described the types of transitions people experience as developmental, health and illness,
situational, and organizational. Additionally the framework defines the patterns of transition as

William Bridges Transition Model
Managing Transitions by William Bridges is a well–constructed text written on Change
Management. Bridges begins by expressing the clear distinction between "change" and "transition",
with emphasis that change and transition are not interchangeable terms, but completely separate
processes. The concept, according to Bridges, is simple: Change is situational, it is eventful, visible
and tangible. Change is the WHAT. Transition is psychological, a continuous process that happens
over a span of time, it is internalized by people. Transition is the HOW. Transition is internal, it is
what happens to the person mentally as they process the change.
"Change is situational: the move to a new site, the retirement of a founder, the reorganization of the
roles on the team, the revisions to the pension plan."

I struggled tremendously when it came to transitions, how they work, and how to use them. At the
beginning of this class, I really did not even know what transitions were. In my first work of this
class, the entrance essay, I used no transitions at all. In my Module 4 essay when I wrote about
volunteering and the effects of volunteering, I began to improve on my use of transitions in my
writing. Although it was not much of an improvement, it was still something. I still had much more
learning and improving to do, but I was beginning to actually use transitions and have a better
understanding on what they were and when and how to use them to improve my writing. I also

My Reflation Paper
On my reflation paper there are a lot of corrections that my friend makes on my paper, and I really
think that have someone to read my writing and gives feedback will be the best way to improve
my writing; because they will give me suggestions and I can also know other people's writing style.

Because I always put stuff at the last minute. Which it can makes me not doing well on the paper,
because I might not have enough time to work on my paper. The way to improve this is start a
head of time, so I can make sure I have time to editing and have someone read my paper for me.
The other part that I will need to improve is learn how to use the transition phrases in the paper. In
my previous paper, I try to use some of the transition phrases in my writhing, it makes my writhing
smoother and interesting. Which I found in the Little Brown Handbook, it is useful and it show a

How My Writing Has Improved
After this semester of English 102, at Bristol Community College I feel that I have gained the
skill to articulate what I want to convey to the reader in many ways. I don't just look at
grammatical error, but instead I look for ways to make my sentences more effective and concise.
Nevertheless, I hope that this strategy will continue to help me improve my writing even further
on in the future. My strong points as a reader have also definitely improved after reading the
poems and stories we experienced this semester. Writing has been an important form of
expression for me. I find myself to be very soft spoken and speaking verbally is usually difficult
for me because I can't always seem to find the right words to say. I feel that I am more expressive
and have more control over what I want to say. While this semester progressed toward its end, I
have learned new writing skills and gradually learned how to engage with audiences. This skill
was very useful in meeting my course goals in English 102. I believe that I have grown at
organization and careful stream my thoughts as well. Before I would just begin writing my papers
without any plans or organization, along with no definite idea of where I would be going with the
assignments, but throughout this course I've learned that you should base your paper around your

Writing structure on text structure refers to the way in which the ideas and information are
organized to fashion a coherent argument. This aids writers by allowing them to correctly express
their ideas and present opinions and different viewpoints on topics (Dickson & Simmons &

where I discussed the similarities and differences between written and verbal communication and
