Power And Class
As William Gaddis defines power; "Power doesn't corrupt people, people corrupt power." We
have been living in a society where we turn to the notion of power, and class. Some conceal
power, but some tend to avoid power. Those who employ power know how to utilize it, either,
correctly or unjustly. Power is a dominant force that can define a new meaning to how class
structure works. As Weber explains class; "Class and status groups are considered to be associated
with power, to achieve one's will, even in the face of opposition from others." To our
understanding, class is what distinguishes us from, rank, level, possessions, income, society, and
mostly power. Power & class is what separates most of us, from low standard to an elite level. Our

Essay about The Future Classroom
When we look at our society today, there is no doubt that our education system is undergoing another
revolution. Technology has advanced to the point where it has made information widely accessible,
and its convenience has established new means of independent learning. Students are able to learn
from a seamlessly infinite resource, and now schools face a competitor in the distribution of
knowledge. Now as schools attempt to integrate technology into the school environment, there are
challenges in defining the next generation of classrooms. Through our Alternate Worlds class, we
have attempted to integrate technology into the class with both success and disappointment.
However, though technology provides a great resource for education,...show more content...
Like a future classroom our class embraces technology as a tool for education. Through websites,
blogs, and streaming online media, our class takes all forms except the traditional lecture style.
Another way in which this class is an example of a future classroom is in the way we communicate.
Through forums, chat boxes and emails, our class communicates through instant mediums instead of
face–to–face contact. One final way in which this class is a model for future classrooms is in the
responsibility that students have for their own education. Students in our class make their own
schedule to keep up in class and are bounded by a loose schedule. Students are given flexibility in
where and when they want to work, which is different from traditional classrooms that meet on strict
schedules.
Though our online class exemplifies many characteristics of a future classroom, our class stays
traditional in several ways. One similarity between our classroom and a traditional classroom is
that students still hold the responsibility for submitting in work to be graded. Students still need to
be assessed on whether or not they are keeping on task with readings, and so assignments and
projects are still used like in traditional education settings. Our class is also similar to traditional
classes in which there is a professor who takes part in ensuring that we stay actively on schedule

Essay about Social Class
SOCIAL CLASS
Social class refers to the system of stratification of the different groups of people in a society.
These different forms of classification are, in most instances, based on gender ethnicity and age.
Social class makes everyone's lives extremely different. For example: How long one can expect to
live. In a wide range of ways, from success, to one's health class, social class influences people's
lives (Grusky,2003).
Among the life chances affected as result of social class involve factors such as: How long people
live (life expectancy), how healthy people are, how much and what they eat, the kind of housing
they live in, the level of education they reach and the qualifications they achieve, how likely they are
to be unemployed...show more content...
The upper middle class consists of managers and professionals, while the lower middle class is
made up of clerks, office workers, telephone sales and shop workers. These jobs are usually not
very well paying and do not require very high qualifications. The petty bourgeoisie on the other hand
are small business owners. This group may consist of people who may own a workshop or shop and
may be employing a small number of people.
The Working Class
This class, like the middle class, consists of sub–groups of people. These include the skilled, the
semi–skilled and unskilled workers. Social mobility has, however, affected the number of people
in this class. Many people born in this class have been able to rise to the middle class, and as a
result, there exists a case of embourgeoisement.
According to the Marxist view, this is the class of people who are detrimental to the fate of the
entire class system. He stated that these people were supposed to unite and overthrow capitalism.
However, this is not what has occurred.
The Underclass
This is the lowest class in the social class stratification. While the majority of the working class now
live reasonably healthy and prosperous lives, a low minority do not. These people cannot work.
They include the long–term unemployed and the disabled and chronically ill. They are in effect, shut
out of much of what most people can attain. This group of

Classism: The Concept Essay
At first glance it might appear that a study of first generation students would naturally reflect a racial
relationship and race would be the "ism" that is most influential on first generation students'
university attrition. This is especially true when the focus of the study is turned toward historically
black colleges and universities. Additionally, a case could be built for the racial "ism" aspect of the
study by focusing on the history of HBCU and the large concentration of first generation African
Americans that attend predominately Black schools. However, in developing the idea for the
proposed research, the "ism" which has the most meaning and connectivity to the topic is classism.
Historically, classist behavior has been present...show more content...
Classism is the systematic oppression of subordinated class groups to advantage and strengthen the
dominant class groups. It's the systematic assignment of characteristics of worth and ability based on
social class. ....Classism is held in place by a system of beliefs and cultural attitudes that ranks people
according to economic status, family lineage, job status, level of education, and other divisions.
Middle–class and owning– or ruling–class people (dominant group members) are seen as smarter and
more articulate than working–class and poor people (subordinated groups)...(What is Classism, p. 1).
As research is begun which has classism as a foundation, William Ming Lui's (2006), well
recognized class and classism researcher, precautions must be taken into consideration. In a
stringent article critique of Laura Smith's "Psychotherapy, classism, and the poor: Conspicuous by
their absence," Liu points out that the study of classism and those areas that it impacts is much
more complex than most researchers realize or expect. He calls for the need for a theory based and
operationlized use of terms such as social class, class, social status, the poor/low–income, and
poverty rather than use of these concepts simply as constructs. He also caution against the tendency
to category low–income subjects by a dispositional attribute (i.e., "poor people"). In conceptualizing
classism, he stresses that

Virtual Classrooms
"It's student driven. They set the pace. It's like a high school class except it's computerized . . .

school of online classrooms in Manton, Michigan. Many people have differing opinions of Virtual
Classrooms, but as Jewett points out, virtual classrooms are "student driven" meaning the student

Many times class rosters are accessible on the online classrooms platform. This allows students to
access to their fellow classmates as well as a way to contact each other. This also provides contact
information for the instructor of the course. Another feature is access to announcements provided
by the instructor. This gives the instructor a quick and easy way to let students know of any
changes or important events. There is also a section for course information, course documents,
and assignments which will provide the students with any important details of the class or
assignments that may be required. Probably one of the most important features of an online
classroom is its form of communication. Most platforms will use a whiteboard or discussion
board in order to hold class discussions and provide a form of input from both students and
teachers. Tools for the students use are also very important. Digital drop boxes make it possible for
students to forward assignments to the instructor without the use of email and attachments.
Calendars allow students to record important dates and keep track of what is planned for each
online lesson. A student information section is also readily available to provide a profile on
students as a way of recording personal information. Some platforms will also provide small
amounts of web space to host a homepage for students and
