Constructing a Music Magazine Using Various Tools
1.
2. Whilst constructing and developing my music
magazine I have explored and learnt a lot about
different websites, tools and technologies in order
to produce a professional magazine.
3. Photoshop helped me to construct the final pages
of my magazine to make it look professional. This
software gave me access to special effects such as
adding adjustment layers to my raw images which
allowed me to change the brightness and contrast
etc. Another useful tool was the lock guides. These
lock guides made it easier to align images and text
giving my magazine a more professional look.
However a limitation of Photoshop is that it is very
time consuming to edit my images professionally
and took my a while to explore Photoshop.
4. Facebook allowed me to create a closed page
where I was able to upload my final pages of my
magazine and invite friends to view and give good
criticism to my work so that I could edit and tweak
my work in order for my pages to look as good as
possible.
Another strength of Facebook was that it was easy
to do. Friends were able to view my work
electronically which they could access through their
mobile phones etc rather than having to gather
everyone into a room to present my work which
would have been difficult as not everybody is
available at the same time.
5. Technical convergence helped me to convey my
magazine as I was able to edit, record and
distribute my work all on one computer. This saved
time as I was able to construct my magazine all on
one machine rather than other technologies.
6. I used Slideshare to upload my work on to my blog.
Slideshare uses embedded coding which allowed
me to upload word processed documents on to my
blog rather than uploading them as images. This
made my blog more interactive as you are able to
scroll through my word documents rather than
looking at it as an image.
However a limitation of Slideshare is that not all
word processed documents uploaded successfully.
7. Blogger was one of the first websites I was
introduced to whist constructing my magazine. By
using blogger, I was able to upload and present all
of my word electronically this included: product
research tasks, layout plans, final pages of my
magazine etc. Blogger uses HTML coding where
you are able to upload all of your work. It is an
effective website as you are able to place your
work under labels which means each section of
your work is stored under a different label making
it easier to view your work.
8. Survey Monkey is a website which allows you to
create a survey with up to 10 questions. This
helped me construct my magazine as I was able to
send surveys out to friends to find out what people
most liked about music magazines. Survey monkey
allowed me to decide a certain genre for my
magazine and I was also able to see who my official
target audience would be. I constructed this survey
simply to see what magazine conventions
participants enjoyed and which to steer clear from.
Overall survey monkey assigned a genre to my
magazine and helped me with construction.
9. However a limitation of Survey monkey was
that it took a while to receive responses which
meant I wasn’t able to start on my magazine
straight away as I didn’t have the genre or my
target audience.
10. By using a Nikon camera, I was able to produce
good quality images so that my magazine created a
real effect. The reason for this is that a Nikon
camera has a bigger lenses and are full frame
cameras therefore they are able to produce good
quality images. However, it took me a while to get
to use the camera because other people in my
media group were using it at similar times meaning
I had to wait to create my good quality images.
