A Short Story : The Story Of A Rose
On one cold winter night by the oven–warm fire sat five children who had become friends and
experienced a christmas miracle. Before that let's take it back to a couple months before all that
happened .One day in the autumn an old gentleman had gone away, and had rented his house to a
family of little American children. Their mother was awfully sick so they moved from the U.S. to
Italy. Then the next day they went to their backyard garden and they danced and sang. One day
they're kitten ran away and they chased after it to a big wall and saw big black eyes looking through
the hole in the stones they were frightened and did not speak to the girl .The next day she was there
again, and Rose, the oldest girl, went up to the wall and talked to her a little while. The girl told
Rose that she had no kind father, no big brother or sister, and no sweet baby to play with and love.
Her and her mother lived all alone in an old stone house that looked on a dark. They were very poor,
and the mother was away from home almost every day, washing clothes and scrubbing floors, and
working hard to earn money for her little girl . When the children found that she had no one to play
with and was very lonely, they talked to her every day, and often brought her fruits and candies, and
passed them through the hole in the wall they even pushed the kitten through but the hole was hardly
large enough for her, and she mewed and scratched and was very much frightened. So then the
father broke away an

The definition of Sociology is the study of human societies through the synthesis of theoretical
analysis and controlled research, focusing on the social patterns and the different factors that
influence humans. I was born in a small town with roughly five hundred people in it; Terrero Negro

From the first day of December you can notice the Christmas spirit in everyone's face. In my
grandma's house me and my older brother had to go to a near forest to cut a pine tree and afterwards
we had to check every single light to make sure to only put the ones that work. The most marvelous
feelings is walking inside your house and smelling all the food being cooked and the smell of a fresh
cut pine tree.Furthermore everyone house is full of food and consequently there are children running
around the streets having a blast. In the other hand christmas in the united states is very depressing
for someone like me, because do do all the abundance and ways to get whatever you desire there is
no longer a sensation or the impulsive to share with your neighborhoods the joy of that marvelous
moment. This is a perfect example of how difference in income can have a totally different effect on
entire community. Where i lived the feeling of a community coming together and putting aside their
differences is like a forest full of green trees filled with live. However if you celebrate this day in a
different places with none of your family instead of that joy it's depressing and there is no longer the
two months of desperately waiting for the that day to

Sir Gawain And The Green Knight: Poem Analysis
In the poem Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, it was Christmastime at Camelot in King Arthur's
court celebrating the Feast of the Epiphany, known as a manifestation or appearance of a divine or
superhuman being and also known as the biggest holiday of the year. This time of year is significant
to the poem since this holiday is filled with feasting, magic, and strange happenings and explains the
timing by Morgan's (King Arthur's half– sister and a fairy) trickery upon King Arthur in creating the
Green Knight and the game he challenges to the knights, "So at Christmas in this court I lay down a
challenge: if a person here present ... is big or bold or red–blooded enough to strike me and be struck

Yus Tree Symbolism
The symbolism of the Christmas tree aka the "Yule–tree", has been around for many centuries.
Many can relate to being a kid and decorating the Christmas tree at home. Those kind of memories
are priceless. But would you believe, the tradition was viewed as a pagan before it became a
Christmas tradition.
The origins of the Christmas tree actually can be attributed to ancient people such as the Egyptians
and early Romans. The tree goes back to Prophet Jeremiah in the Old Testament, (Jeremiah 10:2–4),
but it was viewed as a pagan practice during this time. The ancient Egyptians, Hebrews and Chinese
used evergreen trees, wreaths, and garlands to show symbolism of eternal life.
The traditions were considered heathen and pagan symbols by some like William Bradford. In 1659
observance of December 25 outside of church was against the law and you were fined for hanging
decorations. But we can thank Queen Victoria for bringing a Christmas tree to her Windsor Castle in
1848. And the tradition was born in England, Canada and the United States. Although Germans used
a small 4 foot tree in height, while Americans like the grandeur of a tree from floor to ceiling.
Popular decorations were apples, nuts and marzipan cookies. Popcorn was interlaced with berries
and nuts after being dyed bright colors. And soon after Martin Luther a Protestant Christian was said

The custom originated in what is now, Weihnachtsbaum and the trees were called, "Paradeisbaum"
or paradise trees. During the 16th century Christians decorated trees in their homes; The "tree of
paradise" as it was called in medieval plays given on December 24. This was known as the name
day and commemmoration of Adam and Eve. The decoration of apples represented the forbidden
fruit and wafers representing the Eucharist and redemption was used in play setting. The "tree of

Exploring Christmas Essay
Exploring Christmas
As the year draws to an end, the holiday spirit is in the air (quite literally we are waiting for the
actual 'holiday' to start) Well, jokes aside Christmas is surely just around the corner and the spirit of
Christmas is once again present among us. But what is this 'Spirit of Christmas'? In fact what is
Christmas?
When a person thinks of Christmas, the first thing that most probably comes to mind is the
Christmas tree or Santa Claus or even presents. Christmas can be described in many ways but it is
usually celebrated by millions of people according to tradition. Tradition dictates to put up a
Christmas tree, decorate the house for 'Santa Claus to come and visit' ... Show more content on

Centuries ago in Great Britain, wood priests called Druids used evergreens during mysterious winter
solstice rituals. The druids used holly and mistletoe as symbols of eternal life, and place evergreen
branches over doors to keep away evil spirits.
Late in the Middle Ages, Germans and Scandinavians placed evergreen trees inside their homes or
just outside their door to show their hope in the forthcoming spring. Our modern Christmas tree
evolved from these early traditions.
Legend has it that Martin Luther began the tradition of decorating trees to celebrate Christmas. One
crisp Christmas Eve, about the year 1500, he was walking through snow covered woods and was
struck by the beauty of a group of small evergreens. Their branches, dusted with snow shimmered in
the moonlight. When he got home, he set up a little fir tree indoors so he could share the story with
his children. He decorated it with candles, which he lighted in honour of Christ's birth.
The tradition of the mistletoe is derived from the pagan worship of the sun god, Balder. He was
supposed to be immune to all forms of destruction because of spells cast by the other gods. The only
thing they lacked was the immunity to mistletoe. And so Loki, the evil god contrived to have Balder
killed in an arrow made of mistletoe.

Elfie. He makes his appearance on The night of 1st December and hangs around getting into all
kinds of mischief until he heads back to the North Pole with Santa on Christmas Eve. I could
imagine like all traditions with me, they will start out strong but about a week or so into it "Elfie"
may forget to move or we put him in lame spots because I'd run out of ideas. So to ensure that
doesn't happen, I have rounded up some hilarious and easy Elf on the Shelf Ideas.
As some of you may know, my youngest son is on the spectrum and I think our Elf on the shelf will

Dolls House : Characters And Symbolism In A Doll's House
Throughout the 18th and 19th century, having a good reputation in the society played a significant
role in people's lives. Particularly, having a happy and a successful marriage, and a family was a
crucial factor to have power and an influence in the society. Therefore, people usually tried to
disguise the imperfections of their house and attempt to portray a false reality. Similarly, in the play
A Doll's House, Torvald tries to protect his reputation and honor by disguising his house into a
perfectly happy and a successful family. Also, the name of the play is a parallel to his house, as it
looks perfect to the rest of the world when what is inside the house remains unknown. The
characters in the house therefore plays a role as a doll that are convincingly perfect to the outsiders.
––– Ibsen uses the symbolism of the house to uncover the reality that Torvald tries to conceal
through his superficial nature. Throughout the play, Ibsen uses the symbol of macaroons to illustrate
Nora's lack of freedom and her opposition to be the perfect wife. To the outsiders, Nora is the ideal
wife that anyone could ever have, as Rank would "gladly" give his life for her. However, in reality,
Torvald has forced her to hide her childish and carefree nature to look perfect to the rest of the
world. Nora loves macaroons, but under Torvald's control she is not allowed to have them because
"he is afraid they will spoil [her] teeth" (21), therefore, she "[hides] the packet" when he is around

The Movie ' The Nightmare Before Christmas '
Heroes have fascinated the masses for years; this is displayed in comic books, movies, and myths
that trail back farther than five thousand Before Common Era. The question that goes through all
minds at some point, however, is what makes a hero? Joseph Campbell wrote his theory of "The
Hero's Journey" in which he describes the path the hero will tread and the trials and tribulations
ahead of them. That is not to say that there are not multiple ways to go about a hero tale, there are
various kinds of heroes, which all change the story. There are tragic heroes, classic heroes, epic
heroes, and more. In the film The Nightmare Before Christmas, Jack Skellington fits Campbell's
archetype of the Hero's Journey tragically, as he enters the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

His fatal flaw was his ambition. He reached for unattainable goals even when all the odds were
against him, and even when he was given warnings of dire trouble he carried on. Within his text,
Campbell writes about the hero crossing the first threshold and entering a Special World. Taking this
action signifies the beginning of the journey and the hero's commitment to it. When related to Jack,
the Special World he crosses over to is Christmas Town, where he begins his journey toward making
people happy rather than scaring them. After being celebrated by the town for the best Halloween
yet, Jack sneaks off by himself toward the outskirts of the town into a twisted hill above a pumpkin
patch and graveyard, it is there he sits and ponders what he is feeling, and thus he begins singing
"Jack's Lament". Within the song he sings about how others view him as terrifying and displays a
few the scare tactics he has, but the chorus of the song is what reveals the crux of his dilemma, "oh,
somewhere deep inside of these bones, an emptiness began to grow, there's something out there, far
from my home, a longing that I've never known" . Jack is unhappy with the life he is leading and as
a result has become massively depressed. Zero, his ghost dog, even tries to cheer him up to no avail.
This leads to Jack wandering the forest until dawn when he stumbles upon a place he has never been
to before. As a result, he comes

Compare And Contrast France And Christmas In America
Christmas in france is way different then christmas in america. Merry christmas in france is "joyeux

celebrate in america. Christmas is a big holiday in france. Traditional france christmas ornaments
were fruits that they hung on a tree, like pears or apples, but after they went through a drought they
instead made glass ornaments in the shape of fruits. They also wrap pieces of chocolate in wrapping

Christmas Music And Religion Essay
We enjoy music Christmas music. Since 2001, we have provided a Christmas CD for neighbors and
friends. We call this our Christmas project. We do this as a means to affirm and share our belief
about Christmas religious and cultural significance. It is the sharing of the same cultural beliefs and
traditions that bind people and society.
Have you noticed, with each passing year, Christmas is becoming more secular? The evidence is all
around us. You cannot escape from the self anointed so–called intellectual elite's continuous
denigration about Christmas religious meaning. At the shopping mall, the religious purpose for
Christmas becomes marginal. The mall background music is exclusively about secular topics such
as a snowman, a winter wonderland, or rocking around a tree. Unfortunately, some Contemporary
Christian music radio stations quest for market share and societal acceptance undermine the reason
for the Christmas celebration. Recently, Mitchell took an informal poll on Christmas versus holiday
music played by a "Christian" music station. After 90 minutes, air time was evenly split between
religious versus secular holiday songs. You would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

is a quiet woman, fond of silence as she reads by the fireplace.
Unfortunately, her husband John Clay can't stand the silence he often talks just to hear his own loud,
boisterous voice. They had been married for ten years

The Little Town Of Christmas Essay
Most people agree that Christmas is a magical time. They believe that it can warm the heart of
Scrooge, bring toys to life, and even deliver toys across the globe. However, can a Christmas ad be
magical, is it possible for just an ad taped to the wall; can it incite warm feelings in someone's heart,
to bring just a spec of happiness to them? This ad for "The Little Town of Christmas," may seem
plain and boring, yet there are several aspects to it that many will and have overlooked. There are
several different design aspects that are used to incite this warm Christmas mood into the hearts of
many; these aspects are the ad's font style, the color scheme, the age range it targets, and the overall
design choice.
Many ads go with several different font styles such as Calibri, Times New Roman, and Comic
Sands. However, instead of these font styles, the production company decided to go with a more
creative font for the ad. Moreover, this font style doesn't have a specific style or standard, because of
this there are a few details that are subtle to the eye. In the "Christmas" the t resembles a cross, that
one can only assume is to honor Christianity; for as many know Christmas was the birth of the profit
Jesus. While intriguing, this subtle detail is not widely noticed to those that do not pay ... Show

With its very broad age range, it can target the largest and most diverse audience imaginable.
Finally, with its snow globe design and other details, it will give the viewers a quote unquote
souvenir to take home to remember. Overall, there may be a few mistakes, but the ad itself will be
very successful in its job to draw attention and to go watch the play. These aspects though alone may
seem irrelevant, together they create the magic of

Essay about Santa Claus Does Exist
Santa Claus Does Exist
So you don't believe in Santa Claus. It's understandable. We find ourselves in an age of pure
skepticism. We question everything. Science has taken hold of our lives, providing answers for all
questions and dismissing anything that cannot be explained as either myth or fiction. So it's quite
understandable why you don't believe, with no physical proof of his existence. It's indeed
understandable to lose sight of Father Christmas with the transformation of this holiday into one
that, as of late, is used commercially as a lucrative crutch solely to make profit. It's understandable
to abandon Santa Claus after hearing countless people deny his very physical or even spiritual
existence. After all, one tends to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the wreaths and Yule logs that come standard with this holiday comes a caring from deep in the
hearts of people unbeknownst to them at any other time of the year. At the sight of the Christmas
decor and the flames roaring at the hearth, a warmth envelops the heart, one with which no flame,
however hot, could compete. We see in our gift–wrap and our greeting cards and our holiday
stockings an entirely new persona occupying this world we live in, reprieving us from the daily
heartaches we all know as familiar.
Santa Claus must exist. How else would you describe this change in the way humans interact during
these otherwise dreary winter months? Santa Claus is the catalyst of human goodness, sparking
within us a genuine care for our neighbor, bringing us together for this wonderful season. Think of a
world without Santa Claus!
While your intelligence is gnawing at the lack of proof (the absent shred of red cloth torn by the
fireplace or the nonexistent cookie crumbs leading from the tree up the chimney), I believe even
still, just as millions upon millions believe in some type of god. As you deny Santa Claus on the
grounds of no proof, I accept him on those same grounds. Who are we to deny something we cannot
understand and therefore cannot explain? No amount of persuasion can convince me that Santa
Claus does not exist through people who celebrate Christmas, just as Christians believe Jesus exists
through them today,

December Soltices And The Winter Solstice And December...
There are different holidays that are celebrated worldwide. Some countries prepare, organize and
celebrate holidays, while others just observe holidays. There is a difference between celebrating and
observing. When a holiday is celebrated that day turns into an event. When a holiday is observed it
is noted as being a special or significant day. June Solstice (a.k.a. Summer Solstice) and the
December Solstice (a.k.a. Winter Solstice) are two holidays that are celebrated by some and
observed by others worldwide. How do the celebrations and observations differ and where?
A solstice is an astronomical event that occurs twice each year in June and December when the sun
is at its greatest distance from the celestial equator. (http://www.dictionary.com/browse/solstice,
n.d.). The term solstice comes from the Latin word solstitium, meaning 'the Sun stands still'.
(http://blog.dictionary.com/summer–solstice/, n.d.). The June Solstice can happen anytime around
June 20 and June 22 and is the longest day of the year in terms of daylight. The December Solstice
can happen anytime around December 20 and December 23 and is the shortest day of the year in
terms of daylight. The dates differ because the earliest sunrise happens a few days before, and the
latest sunset takes place a few days after. (https://www.timeanddate.com/calendar/december–
solstice–customs.html, n.d.).

How Would A Trade Union Impact On My Family
The International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail, and Transportation Workers has had an
immense impact on my life. My father has been part of this union for over twenty years and it has
been very important for my family. This union has not only helped my family, but it has also made
my childhood very enjoyable with all of the events that are hosted for the families of union
members. The union has hosted an annual Christmas party that was welcome for my family to
attend, it has picnics in the summer for all to enjoy, and most importantly, the union has helped my
family financially.
There were many events hosted by the union every year and the annual union Christmas party that
was held for all union members was my favourite one to attend, especially as a child. Every
Christmas, I would look forward to this party because I loved the presents I received and taking
pictures with Santa, which was my favourite thing to do during the Christmas season. The gifts were
always amazing and I will always be thankful for them because they really lifted up my spirits,

Reflection Paper On The Teaching Of Santa
Things aren't always black and white and the decisions we make as parents are often a result of our
own heartaches and pains. Which is why to answer the question as to why we did, what we did,
concerning the teaching of Santa comes in the form of a story for me.
For me, as a parent, my goal was for my children to know the truth and to live a life of truth. I
wanted my kids to love Jesus more than life itself. I wanted them to know and experience the life in
Christ I had come to know as teenager in a miserable spot. I knew the King of Kings and Lord of
Lord and wanted that to be the center of our home. I knew if they knew the truth, the truth would set
them free.
When I was little I had a brother and a sister and real parents. My real parents taught me about Santa
Claus. The night before Christmas we put out a glass of milk and a plate of cookies. Christmas
morning the milk was partially gone and all the cookies were gone except a little moon shaped
sliver, proof that Santa had come and that he was real and of course, then there were presents
wrapped under the Christmas tree.
There was so much excitement that one Christmas Eve at bedtime I couldn't settle down. I could see
down the hall right into our living room. Switching places with my little brother, who slept at the
opposite end of the bunk bed, was the remedy for my restlessness and I quickly fell asleep. The next
morning he told me he saw Santa Claus.. I asked what he looked like and how he got in. He

Importance Of Winter Solstice
Celebrating Pagan Yule, a Winter Solstice Holiday The winter solstice (also called midwinter) is a
celebration to celebrate the longest night of year, and is on December 21st or the 22nd. Officially the
first day of winter, the winter solstice occurs when the North Pole is tilted 23.5 degrees away from
the sun (precisely. *sips daintily from teacup*) and is the "dark night of our souls". It celebrates the
birth of the new solar year and the beginning of winter. The winter solstice has been celebrated for
many years. There have been many cultural and religious traditions, and some of them are still alive
(note that I said some, not all). In many places, people honor this day with different kinds of
festivals.
For example, in China and Taiwan and a few other countries celebrate the Dongzhi Festival, where
families and relatives get together and eat and generally have a good time together. Or maybe the
old Western Christian tradition, Blue Christmas, where families mourn and grieve for their dead
relatives or loved ones and "have a good time". Yeah, right. Not every holiday is a cheery one. But
no, you're not reading about the Dongzhi Festival, or Blue Christmas and such. This is all about the
Pagan Yule festival. From festivals, feasts, songs, and dances, Yule, Yule Fest, or Yuletide, is an old
Norse celebration that is still celebrated today (Just not as much as Christmas, though).
Today, many people in Western–based cultures refer to this holiday as "Christmas". In

One can almost cut through the irony of hearing Bing Crosby sing "It's beginning to look a lot like
Christmas" on the radio when the temperature is sixty and the first frost of winter is still weeks
away. As citizens of the United States in this day and age, people are most likely all too accustomed
with this typical rush promoted between important festivities. It's exclusively about generating
maximum revenue for the large corporations as frantic shoppers attempt to assuage their stress
through hour upon hour of incessant shopping; arising in our society today, an important question of
whether or not this avaricious behavior communicates total loss of understanding as to what the true
meaning of the season represents. In my opinion, some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Within our culture, it seems to be of much more convenience to attend a Christmas Eve sale at
Macy's rather than the Christmas Eve vigil at a local church. Days such as BLACK Friday really do
give a good characterization to the way we as a whole have become. Next, one is unable to enjoy the
true spirit of the season – the togetherness, the contentment, and the unadulterated joy – when the
only thing singed into our minds is the need to prepare for the next quickly–approaching holiday.
Before you can even begin to think of the forthcoming celebration, all consumer–based retailers
have their shelves stocked high with goods pertaining to seasons months in the future. Sears, Kmart
and Home Depot were among the first wave of retailers to set up their holiday displays and
merchandise during the last week of September ("Kmart, Sears, and Home Depot"). It seems that, at
this point every year, Halloween and Thanksgiving are to be forgotten, shipped away to the land of
misfit rationalizations; the biggest moneymaker of them all is the only thing that retail stores want
you to remember. It's impossible to see the beauty of the multitude of colors painted across the
leaves of changing trees, to watch the snow gently blanket the cold, hard, winter ground, or to enjoy
the company of several generations of loved ones gathered in close proximity when the

Christmas Tree Analysis
In Ibsen's play A Doll's House, the Christmas tree parallels with Nora's development, her mental
state, and position in the household. The tree can be recognized as an object placed in a house to
please the eyes and adds beauty to a home. Torvald objectifies Nora, seeing her as a plaything
carrying no purpose other than to look at and be pretty. As the play continues and Nora develops
into a mature character and becomes aware of her repression, the Christmas Tree begins to visibly
deteriorate and wither. The Christmas tree emphasizes Nora's rebirth and realization of her own
dissatisfaction with life and must act against Torvald. The disintegration of the tree also parallels the
disintegration of the decorations (pretty dresses) Nora uses ... Show more content on

Early on in the play, Nora's deceitful and immature character parallels to the tree's youthful
condition and as the play progresses, Nora will begin to mature with the tree and as the lies will be
revealed.
Nora serves only to entertain Torvald and does not realize Torvald sees her as nothing but a little
doll to play with. Nora ironically points out: "We shall have a lovely tree–I'll do all the things you
like, Torvald, I'll sing and dance." Right after Nora mentions the tree, she willingly goes along with
her role as a submissive female and this represents her initial characterization which will then
develop to her rejection of her submissive role. Throughout act 1, Nora repeatedly decorates the tree
with ornaments and decorations: "Nora decorates the tree, still talking to herself, saying everything
Krogstad has said is nonsense..." Nora's act of decorating the tree parallels to the standards society
has for women to cover themselves in pretty clothes and makeup. Nora's continuous decorating also
represents her secrets and deceit and the lies she tells herself about her 'stable' marriage. In the
quote, Nora rejects what Krogstad has said and refuses to accept the truth, representing her childish
behavior and her inability to face her problems, choosing to hide them with pretty decorations
instead.
Nora's character development and maturity begins after Nora has been confronted by Krogstad and
Torvald for being a "lying mother." In

Naty Crib Scene History
An important part for celebrating is the Nativity Crib Scene. Using Nativity Crib Scene was a big
help to tell the Christmas story. This is very popular and was used by St. Francis of Assisi in 1223. A
lot of Italian families have a Nativity crib in their homes. In the city of Naples which is in Italy, is
very famous for making cribs. These people are known as "Presepe Napoletano". The first crib
scene in Naples was thought to go back to 1025 and was in the Church of St. Maria Del Presepe, this
was even before St. Francis of Assisi had made cribs very popular! Having cribs in your own home
has been popular since the 16th century and it's still popular today. Cribs are traditionally put out on

Misconceptions About Mars
I don't think men are from Mars. I think they're from Whoville, where every year they align with the

sorely disappointed.
I'm not alone.
Do they do it on purpose? Of course not. It's just that men hate the pressure of holiday shopping and
would cut off their right arm to avoid it.
It shows.

Fry In The Bay Monologue Analysis
Bravery in the Bay

PROLOGUE
Suzy McHullivan was a cheerful young girl with braids as long as the sun's rays. She gracefully
strolled around in a beautiful, fluffy, and pale blue dress. Lucky for her, she was friends with Johnny
Hudson, the son of Captain Henry Hudson of England. Johnny wore a hat as furry as a mother bear's
cub, and a coat made out of splendid material. Captain Hudson, or Mr. Hudson as Suzy called him,
always dressed to look as a king. Suzy and Johnny were on an adventure of a lifetime, with Mr.
Hudson holding the ship's wheel.

without food. "What shall we do?" I asked quickly. "I'm afraid we'll be sending some men to venture
onto the ice to cut the dangerous cubes, so we may be freed." He replied, looking out into the ocean.
"Oh, Mr. Hudson. Could I help to do so?" I asked as the idea came sailing into my head. Mr. Hudson
laughed and turned to the crew. "MEN! All men..." My hopes were fading away until a second later,
Johnny came running up to me. "My father needs help. He doesn't want the men to fall in while
cutting the ice. Do you have any ideas?" "Indeed, I do!" We rushed over to Mr. Hudson on the deck
filled with worried crew members. "Mr. Hudson, I have an idea." I said. "You should attach rope

  • 2. A Short Story : The Story Of A Rose On one cold winter night by the oven–warm fire sat five children who had become friends and experienced a christmas miracle. Before that let's take it back to a couple months before all that happened .One day in the autumn an old gentleman had gone away, and had rented his house to a family of little American children. Their mother was awfully sick so they moved from the U.S. to Italy. Then the next day they went to their backyard garden and they danced and sang. One day they're kitten ran away and they chased after it to a big wall and saw big black eyes looking through the hole in the stones they were frightened and did not speak to the girl .The next day she was there again, and Rose, the oldest girl, went up to the wall and talked to her a little while. The girl told Rose that she had no kind father, no big brother or sister, and no sweet baby to play with and love. Her and her mother lived all alone in an old stone house that looked on a dark. They were very poor, and the mother was away from home almost every day, washing clothes and scrubbing floors, and working hard to earn money for her little girl . When the children found that she had no one to play with and was very lonely, they talked to her every day, and often brought her fruits and candies, and passed them through the hole in the wall they even pushed the kitten through but the hole was hardly large enough for her, and she mewed and scratched and was very much frightened. So then the father broke away an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In my grandma's house me and my older brother had to go to a near forest to cut a pine tree and afterwards we had to check every single light to make sure to only put the ones that work. The most marvelous feelings is walking inside your house and smelling all the food being cooked and the smell of a fresh cut pine tree.Furthermore everyone house is full of food and consequently there are children running around the streets having a blast. In the other hand christmas in the united states is very depressing for someone like me, because do do all the abundance and ways to get whatever you desire there is no longer a sensation or the impulsive to share with your neighborhoods the joy of that marvelous moment. This is a perfect example of how difference in income can have a totally different effect on entire community. Where i lived the feeling of a community coming together and putting aside their differences is like a forest full of green trees filled with live. However if you celebrate this day in a different places with none of your family instead of that joy it's depressing and there is no longer the two months of desperately waiting for the that day to ... Those kind of memories are priceless. But would you believe, the tradition was viewed as a pagan before it became a Christmas tradition. The origins of the Christmas tree actually can be attributed to ancient people such as the Egyptians and early Romans. The tree goes back to Prophet Jeremiah in the Old Testament, (Jeremiah 10:2–4), but it was viewed as a pagan practice during this time. The ancient Egyptians, Hebrews and Chinese used evergreen trees, wreaths, and garlands to show symbolism of eternal life. The traditions were considered heathen and pagan symbols by some like William Bradford. In 1659 observance of December 25 outside of church was against the law and you were fined for hanging decorations. But we can thank Queen Victoria for bringing a Christmas tree to her Windsor Castle in 1848. And the tradition was born in England, Canada and the United States. But what is this 'Spirit of Christmas'? In fact what is Christmas? When a person thinks of Christmas, the first thing that most probably comes to mind is the Christmas tree or Santa Claus or even presents. Centuries ago in Great Britain, wood priests called Druids used evergreens during mysterious winter solstice rituals. The druids used holly and mistletoe as symbols of eternal life, and place evergreen branches over doors to keep away evil spirits. Late in the Middle Ages, Germans and Scandinavians placed evergreen trees inside their homes or just outside their door to show their hope in the forthcoming spring. Our modern Christmas tree evolved from these early traditions. Legend has it that Martin Luther began the tradition of decorating trees to celebrate Christmas. One crisp Christmas Eve, about the year 1500, he was walking through snow covered woods and was struck by the beauty of a group of small evergreens. Their branches, dusted with snow shimmered in the moonlight. When he got home, he set up a little fir tree indoors so he could share the story with his children. He decorated it with candles, which he lighted in honour of Christ's birth. The tradition of the mistletoe is derived from the pagan worship of the sun god, Balder. He was supposed to be immune to all forms of destruction because of spells cast by the other gods. The only thing they lacked was the immunity to mistletoe. And so Loki, the evil god contrived to have Balder killed in an arrow made of mistletoe. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Dolls House : Characters And Symbolism In A Doll's House Throughout the 18th and 19th century, having a good reputation in the society played a significant role in people's lives. Particularly, having a happy and a successful marriage, and a family was a crucial factor to have power and an influence in the society. Therefore, people usually tried to disguise the imperfections of their house and attempt to portray a false reality. Similarly, in the play A Doll's House, Torvald tries to protect his reputation and honor by disguising his house into a perfectly happy and a successful family. Also, the name of the play is a parallel to his house, as it looks perfect to the rest of the world when what is inside the house remains unknown. The characters in the house therefore plays a role as a doll that are convincingly perfect to the outsiders. ––– Ibsen uses the symbolism of the house to uncover the reality that Torvald tries to conceal through his superficial nature. Throughout the play, Ibsen uses the symbol of macaroons to illustrate Nora's lack of freedom and her opposition to be the perfect wife. To the outsiders, Nora is the ideal wife that anyone could ever have, as Rank would "gladly" give his life for her. However, in reality, Torvald has forced her to hide her childish and carefree nature to look perfect to the rest of the world. Nora loves macaroons, but under Torvald's control she is not allowed to have them because "he is afraid they will spoil [her] teeth" (21), therefore, she "[hides] the packet" when he is around ... The Movie ' The Nightmare Before Christmas ' Heroes have fascinated the masses for years; this is displayed in comic books, movies, and myths that trail back farther than five thousand Before Common Era. The question that goes through all minds at some point, however, is what makes a hero? Joseph Campbell wrote his theory of "The Hero's Journey" in which he describes the path the hero will tread and the trials and tribulations ahead of them. That is not to say that there are not multiple ways to go about a hero tale, there are various kinds of heroes, which all change the story. There are tragic heroes, classic heroes, epic heroes, and more. His fatal flaw was his ambition. He reached for unattainable goals even when all the odds were against him, and even when he was given warnings of dire trouble he carried on. Within his text, Campbell writes about the hero crossing the first threshold and entering a Special World. Taking this action signifies the beginning of the journey and the hero's commitment to it. When related to Jack, the Special World he crosses over to is Christmas Town, where he begins his journey toward making people happy rather than scaring them. After being celebrated by the town for the best Halloween yet, Jack sneaks off by himself toward the outskirts of the town into a twisted hill above a pumpkin patch and graveyard, it is there he sits and ponders what he is feeling, and thus he begins singing "Jack's Lament". Within the song he sings about how others view him as terrifying and displays a few the scare tactics he has, but the chorus of the song is what reveals the crux of his dilemma, "oh, somewhere deep inside of these bones, an emptiness began to grow, there's something out there, far from my home, a longing that I've never known" . Jack is unhappy with the life he is leading and as a result has become massively depressed. Zero, his ghost dog, even tries to cheer him up to no avail. We do this as a means to affirm and share our belief about Christmas religious and cultural significance. It is the sharing of the same cultural beliefs and traditions that bind people and society. Have you noticed, with each passing year, Christmas is becoming more secular? The evidence is all around us. You cannot escape from the self anointed so–called intellectual elite's continuous denigration about Christmas religious meaning. At the shopping mall, the religious purpose for Christmas becomes marginal. The mall background music is exclusively about secular topics such as a snowman, a winter wonderland, or rocking around a tree. Unfortunately, some Contemporary Christian music radio stations quest for market share and societal acceptance undermine the reason for the Christmas celebration. However, can a Christmas ad be magical, is it possible for just an ad taped to the wall; can it incite warm feelings in someone's heart, to bring just a spec of happiness to them? This ad for "The Little Town of Christmas," may seem plain and boring, yet there are several aspects to it that many will and have overlooked. There are several different design aspects that are used to incite this warm Christmas mood into the hearts of many; these aspects are the ad's font style, the color scheme, the age range it targets, and the overall design choice. Many ads go with several different font styles such as Calibri, Times New Roman, and Comic Sands. • 25. December Soltices And The Winter Solstice And December... There are different holidays that are celebrated worldwide. Some countries prepare, organize and celebrate holidays, while others just observe holidays. There is a difference between celebrating and observing. When a holiday is celebrated that day turns into an event. When a holiday is observed it is noted as being a special or significant day. June Solstice (a.k.a. Summer Solstice) and the December Solstice (a.k.a. Winter Solstice) are two holidays that are celebrated by some and observed by others worldwide. How do the celebrations and observations differ and where? A solstice is an astronomical event that occurs twice each year in June and December when the sun is at its greatest distance from the celestial equator. (http://www.dictionary.com/browse/solstice, n.d.). The term solstice comes from the Latin word solstitium, meaning 'the Sun stands still'. (http://blog.dictionary.com/summer–solstice/, n.d.). The June Solstice can happen anytime around June 20 and June 22 and is the longest day of the year in terms of daylight. The December Solstice can happen anytime around December 20 and December 23 and is the shortest day of the year in terms of daylight. The dates differ because the earliest sunrise happens a few days before, and the latest sunset takes place a few days after. Which is why to answer the question as to why we did, what we did, concerning the teaching of Santa comes in the form of a story for me. For me, as a parent, my goal was for my children to know the truth and to live a life of truth. I wanted my kids to love Jesus more than life itself. I wanted them to know and experience the life in Christ I had come to know as teenager in a miserable spot. I knew the King of Kings and Lord of Lord and wanted that to be the center of our home. I knew if they knew the truth, the truth would set them free. When I was little I had a brother and a sister and real parents. My real parents taught me about Santa Claus. The night before Christmas we put out a glass of milk and a plate of cookies. Christmas morning the milk was partially gone and all the cookies were gone except a little moon shaped sliver, proof that Santa had come and that he was real and of course, then there were presents wrapped under the Christmas tree. There was so much excitement that one Christmas Eve at bedtime I couldn't settle down. I could see down the hall right into our living room. Switching places with my little brother, who slept at the opposite end of the bunk bed, was the remedy for my restlessness and I quickly fell asleep. The next morning he told me he saw Santa Claus.. • 29. Importance Of Winter Solstice Celebrating Pagan Yule, a Winter Solstice Holiday The winter solstice (also called midwinter) is a celebration to celebrate the longest night of year, and is on December 21st or the 22nd. Officially the first day of winter, the winter solstice occurs when the North Pole is tilted 23.5 degrees away from the sun (precisely. *sips daintily from teacup*) and is the "dark night of our souls". It celebrates the birth of the new solar year and the beginning of winter. The winter solstice has been celebrated for many years. There have been many cultural and religious traditions, and some of them are still alive (note that I said some, not all). In many places, people honor this day with different kinds of festivals. For example, in China and Taiwan and a few other countries celebrate the Dongzhi Festival, where families and relatives get together and eat and generally have a good time together. Or maybe the old Western Christian tradition, Blue Christmas, where families mourn and grieve for their dead relatives or loved ones and "have a good time". Yeah, right. Not every holiday is a cheery one. But no, you're not reading about the Dongzhi Festival, or Blue Christmas and such. This is all about the Pagan Yule festival. From festivals, feasts, songs, and dances, Yule, Yule Fest, or Yuletide, is an old Norse celebration that is still celebrated today (Just not as much as Christmas, though). The tree can be recognized as an object placed in a house to please the eyes and adds beauty to a home. Torvald objectifies Nora, seeing her as a plaything carrying no purpose other than to look at and be pretty. As the play continues and Nora develops into a mature character and becomes aware of her repression, the Christmas Tree begins to visibly deteriorate and wither. The Christmas tree emphasizes Nora's rebirth and realization of her own dissatisfaction with life and must act against Torvald. Early on in the play, Nora's deceitful and immature character parallels to the tree's youthful condition and as the play progresses, Nora will begin to mature with the tree and as the lies will be revealed. Nora serves only to entertain Torvald and does not realize Torvald sees her as nothing but a little doll to play with. Nora ironically points out: "We shall have a lovely tree–I'll do all the things you like, Torvald, I'll sing and dance." Right after Nora mentions the tree, she willingly goes along with her role as a submissive female and this represents her initial characterization which will then develop to her rejection of her submissive role. Throughout act 1, Nora repeatedly decorates the tree with ornaments and decorations: "Nora decorates the tree, still talking to herself, saying everything Krogstad has said is nonsense..." Nora's act of decorating the tree parallels to the standards society has for women to cover themselves in pretty clothes and makeup. Nora's continuous decorating also represents her secrets and deceit and the lies she tells herself about her 'stable' marriage. In the quote, Nora rejects what Krogstad has said and refuses to accept the truth, representing her childish behavior and her inability to face her problems, choosing to hide them with pretty decorations instead. Nora's character development and maturity begins after Nora has been confronted by Krogstad and Torvald for being a "lying mother." In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Misconceptions About Mars I don't think men are from Mars. I think they're from Whoville, where every year they align with the Grinch and band together to ruin Christmas. Each holiday, after thoughtfully deciding on, shopping for, and wrapping the perfect presents for my boyfriend, I can't wait to see what he picked out for me. I breathlessly anticipate tearing open the perfect romantic/sentimental gift, and every year I'm sorely disappointed. I'm not alone. Do they do it on purpose? Of course not. It's just that men hate the pressure of holiday shopping and would cut off their right arm to avoid it. It shows. We women, on the other hand, have high expectations because we put lots of thought into gift– giving. Throughout the year, we pick up on the little hints he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, this year we have decided to give each other ideas (not necessarily a list) so it should be much easier. Of course there will be a few surprises thrown in. Over the years though, it has been a stressful time. I think that whole Mars & Venus comes into play. She wants cleaning to be easier... a new Shop Vac oughta help. Something we can enjoy together...doesn't a plasma TV fit the bill?" Jim: "I am not crazy about shopping generally, but I don't really mind holiday shopping. I figure she puts up with my crap all year long, so it's my chance to do something nice and let her know I appreciate her. Choosing something she'll really like is tough sometimes, and the fact that I'm a world–class procrastinator doesn't help things. I try to have some fairly definite ideas about what to get, and then hit the mall early (like 8:00 a.m., usually the Saturday before Christmas) before the crowds arrive." Also from Jim: "Cautionary tale about a guy I used to work with: He waited until Christmas Eve to go shopping for his wife, and when he tried to check out he discovered that she had already maxed out all their credit cards! Having no cash, he came home empty handed. He was in the maison–de– pooch for quite a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Fry In The Bay Monologue Analysis Bravery in the Bay By Grace Colombo PROLOGUE Suzy McHullivan was a cheerful young girl with braids as long as the sun's rays. She gracefully strolled around in a beautiful, fluffy, and pale blue dress. Lucky for her, she was friends with Johnny Hudson, the son of Captain Henry Hudson of England. Johnny wore a hat as furry as a mother bear's cub, and a coat made out of splendid material. Captain Hudson, or Mr. Hudson as Suzy called him, always dressed to look as a king. Suzy and Johnny were on an adventure of a lifetime, with Mr. Hudson holding the ship's wheel. Winter on the Ship, 1609–1610 The weather had been treacherous the last two days. It was like trying to get the cookie you wanted from Mama's cookie jar back home in England, just ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Then finally, Johnny and I were able to walk onto the deck when the storm was over. As we entered, I heard Mr. Hudson. "We've come upon a big problem, men." Johnny gasped as we listened some more. "We're surrounded by frozen water!" I ran over to him, panicking like an animal in the winter without food. "What shall we do?" I asked quickly. "I'm afraid we'll be sending some men to venture onto the ice to cut the dangerous cubes, so we may be freed." He replied, looking out into the ocean. "Oh, Mr. Hudson. Could I help to do so?" I asked as the idea came sailing into my head. Mr. Hudson laughed and turned to the crew. "MEN! All men..." My hopes were fading away until a second later, Johnny came running up to me. "My father needs help. He doesn't want the men to fall in while cutting the ice. Do you have any ideas?" "Indeed, I do!" We rushed over to Mr. Hudson on the deck filled with worried crew members. "Mr. Hudson, I have an idea." I said. "You should attach rope onto the crew members so they won't fall into the rushing waters while they cut the ice." I smiled as I spoke. Mr. Hudson ... • 40. Personal Statement: Why I Chose To Go To Santa's Workshop The reason I would go to Santa's Workshop is because, there's toys, candy, Mr. & Mrs. Clause, and their reindeer. Santa's workshop is actually a real place. Don't believe me? Boom: https://www.google.com/maps/@44.4012301,–73.8491959,105m/data=!3m1!1e3. It's just not magical. The toys I would mess with is like RC stuff or something. Like Air Hogs helicopters or something. I really like RC helicopters because, I used to play with them with my cousin when we were little. They were and still are really fun, we also liked to pick up flying maple seeds and dropped them and watched them spin downward. We didn't really know what they were called so we called them "helicopters". Also I would go for the candy. The reason being, I love candy! ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
