Homecoming Failure
In my time as a student I have rarely seen latinos in positions of power. Much less in student council, where I was the only latina up until last year.
Imagine the surprise that came to me when I found out I had been chosen to be the head of homecoming. At first, panic set in. What if I didn't do a
good job? What if homecoming failed due to my failing as a leader? If homecoming failed, I would I give into the stereotype of an incompetent
mexican? All these questions loomed in my head. Eventually, I realized this was my chance to prove myself, and prove that others of my race could
do just as good a job as my caucasian counterparts. Once I gained confidence in my ability to lead student council into producing a great homecoming,

Homecoming Poem
Wilfred Owen's Anthem for Doomed Youth and Bruce Dawe's Homecoming are thematically connected poems which explore the futility of war and the
treatment of deceased combatants. Both Owen and Dawe served in the military and were controversial condemners in all that they penned on World
War One and the Vietnam War respectively. Despite this, these texts do not explicitly state these views, but rather evoke the sympathy of the audience
utilising subtle poetic techniques including contrast, flesh imagery and death imagery.
Contrast is one of the most apparent devices within Homecoming and Anthem for Doomed Youth and is used to create a pervading sense of war's
irony. The very title of Dawe's poem, "Homecoming", has the positive connotations of family reunion but... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This quotation is heavy with religious imagery of the passage to heaven, impressed upon the reader by the purposeful placement of commas.
Throughout history religion has been misused as justification of the military institution, and Dawe considers the contradictory nature of these
ideologies; one preaching peace and the other incentivising the indiscriminate killing of one's neighbour. These shadows, however, do not simply pass
over untouched land but the countryside they have scarred; metaphorically envisioned as "steaming chow mein" and likened to Australia's "knuckled
hills" and "desert emptiness". The irony of this poem truly peaks when in spite of all his condemnation, Dawe momentarily admires "the mash, the
splendour" of war, emphasising its eternal allure. Anthem for Doomed Youth shares this ironic contrast, comparing traditional funeral rites to war. From
the opening stanza the audience is immersed in cacophony of battle, with Owen utilising the alliteration of "rifles' rapid rattle" to emulate the sound
produced by the "monstrous anger of guns". Personification is

I've always loved Homecoming and one of my favorite parts of homecoming is being apart of the committee that plans the events. This past year we
got a new football field and were no longer allowed to have our homecoming floats on the field. This lead to the cancellation of float building, one of
the schools biggest bonding experiences, as well as our homecoming parade. When we realized there was no way of bringing floats back, we decided
as a committee to brainstorm events that could replace it. I suggested the idea of a carnival. We ended up deciding to have the carnival and since I
came up with the idea, I was put in charge of planning the first annual carnival. Our field was closed due to construction, subsequently clubs weren't

The Sociological Experiences Of High School And College...
Coming into college, one major thing I was excited for was the week of homecoming. In high school, I always had the most spirit and this week was
one of my favorites. That being said, I looked forward to participating in the homecoming events this past fall football season. I gained from this
experience is that both high school and college homecomings are sociological events that can be compared in many ways. The homecoming I am most
familiar with is a high school homecoming. During the week, students would practice agency meaning the freedom individuals have to choose and
act (Witt, 5). If you didn't want to participate in anything, people wouldn't force you to do it. Every day we would have different theme to go with
our overall theme for the week. By putting up posters the week before, we used nonverbal communication, the use of gestures, facial expressions,
and other visual images to communicate (Witt, 53) to spread the word about upcoming days. By the end of the week, everyone was ready to skip our
last class and go to our infamous Pep Rally. At our Pep Rally you could see the different subcultures, segment of society that shares a distinctive
pattern of mores, folkways, and values that differ from the pattern of the larger society (p.59) in the separation of the classes.
A norm, which is an established standard or behavior maintained by society (Witt, 55), is seen throughout the gym with students wearing our school
colors red, black, and white. Different students

Imagery In Homecoming
If anything is known about war, it progressively gets worse throughout history. The weapons have become far more powerful, the losses are much
greater, and worst of all, soldiers visions of hell have become a reality. War, centuries ago, seemed to young eager young men as an adventure, a
chance for glory, an honorable way to die; however, these opinions shifted as time went on. Many if not most of the soldiers today go towar to defend
their country, their loved ones, and everything else they hold dear in the hopes that the battles they fight will one day come to an end and they will be
able to come home. Millions of soldiers kept their journals, shared their own war stories, or have had their legends written and passed down throughout

In the first line, "Bent double, like old beggars under sacks," is a simile comparing the soldiers trudging along to old women with canes. In the third
line it states, "Till on the haunting flares we turned our backs" meaning that the soldiers had to turn away or change direction from their previous camp
and move forward. "Drunk with fatigue; deaf even to the hoots...Of disappointed shells that dropped behind" describes how the soldiers were just out
of reach of enemy fire. There is a connotation through lines 13–16 where it says, "Dim, through the misty panes and thick green light...As under a
green sea, I saw him drowning. In all my dreams, before my helpless sight, He plunges at me guttering, choking, drowning..." It then continues on to
shift from "...He plunges at me guttering, choking, drowning" to "If in some smothering dreams you too could pace... Behind the wagon that we
flung him in," bringing a past experience to the current time in the poem. "His hanging face, like a devil's sick of sin" is highly unlikely because it's
impossible for the devil to be sick of sin. A little bit later in the poem, Owen writes, "Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud," being a bit graphic but
once again bringing back the bitter reality of war and that death is not a pleasant thing to

The Incident Of Troy University 's Homecoming
"Something bad is about to happen," I stated as I looked over to my cousin's best friend. Apparently, I had spoken too soon. Pow! Pow! Shots were
fired. Crowds of people were frantically running in every direction. What had just happened was not expected and had definitely never taken place
before. Troy University's Homecoming Weekend in the past years had never encountered violence on this level. There was maybe a fight here and
there, but never gunshots. I had never been so scared in my life. Troy University Homecoming 2016 had officially been ruined after this night. That
weekend began like any other homecoming weekend. It was filled with fraternity parties, tailgating, and much more. The previous night, me, my
cousin, and her friends ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We all followed. While waiting at the front door, I constantly observed my surroundings. A sense of nervousness came over my body as I began to
look at the capacity of people standing outside waiting. That's when I noticed two groups of people having a confrontation right behind my group
of friends. The conversation quickly escalated as one of the members of the group swings a punch at another member of the other group. The
brawl was on; in a blink of an eye, both groups were on the ground tumbling and throwing punches. People were running towards the fight for some
odd reason; instead, me and the girls ran towards the door of the building. "Something bad is about to happen," I stated as I looked over to my
cousin's best friend. Apparently I had spoken too soon. As I watched one of the members of the fight get up from the ground and reach into his
pocket, I knew what was coming next. Fear immediately took over my body. Pow! Pow! Shots were fired. Crowds of people were frantically
running in every direction. I began to bang on the door of the building in terror. Thankfully, someone inside the party heard the gunshots, and ran to
open the door for us. Everyone stampeded into the lobby of Sartain Hall like a herd of animals. I looked over to my right, in hopes that at least my
cousin had made it inside the building. She was nowhere to be found. I desperately began to search for my cousin amongst the crowd of flustered
people. "Tia! I'm right here!"

American Patriotism : The Tragedy Of American Patriotism
Edmund Burke once said that the only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men– or, in my case, women– to do nothing. It is therefore
important to stand for what one believes in at all times, no matter the stakes, for if one fails to do so when it matters little, they will certainly fail to
do so when it matters much. Although I was in no real danger, I experienced a subtle version of this social phenomenon during my senior year of high
school in a controversial display of American patriotism.
Kennesaw Mountain High School school has a spirit week in the days leading up to homecoming. Each day has a theme, be it Tacky Tuesday, College
Wear Wednesday, or Throwback Thursday. During my senior year, just after the kneeling of the NFL players, the student government and I decided to
try something new: Freedom Friday, in which students wear patriotic clothing as a celebration of American freedom. We thought it was harmless fun,
but it soon became a controversial, and even threatening, topic. Groups of people were agreeing to wear black to demonstrate the "social injustice of
America", resulting in a snowball effect encompassing about a quarter of a school of 3000. Although I disagreed with their point, I was respectful of
their peaceful protest, as one of the great things about our country is the ability of the people to demonstrate their opinions through free speech.
Then, the rumors started. They occurred on private channels, behind closed doors. The word on the

Pep Rally Argumentative Essay
Based on the criteria we set as a class, I determined that the Pep Rally went successful. A Pep Rally is where we compete against other grade levels in
order to win a prize. The prizes are homework–free for a week and having a week to listen to music during lunch. Although, in order to receive this
prize you must win the break down. A break down is when we stomp on the floor to make sick beats. Each grade level gets a turn to participate the
break down in other words, who ever stomps the loudest wins! The criteria that I used to evaluate the SGMS Pep Rally was Energy, Loud, Good
Music, Games, and Performances/Visitors. One reason why the Pep Rally went successful is Energy. Although, teachers didn't seem to have that
much energy at the Pep Rally. But, the whole students had a lot of energy they just wanna go KABOOM. During, the Pep Rally students were
jumping on the bleachers cheering for their Team. Also, teachers and students were screaming saying their favorite quote "THIS IS OUR HOUSE"!!!.
Lastly, students were stomping as Loud as thunder where they can make their team better than any other grade levels. Another, reason that the Pep
Rally went successful is Performances or Visitors. Now we didn't have any Performances or Visitors that came to SGMS because in my opinion I think
maybe their still practicing their dances or... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the music from the beginning to the end. The ways students and teachers stayed active were singing and dancing. Singing can make students

what a coincidence. For example, the games that were played at the Pep Rally were Tug of war, Basketball shoots, Hula hoop, musical chairs, and

Sargent Andrew Ford was relieved. He was finally ending seven months of deployment in Afghanistan and was getting ready to see his wife. Mentally
tired and physically exhausted, his entire goal was to reconnect with his life and enjoy being with his family after months apart. Unlike most soldiers
returning from tour, he had a surprise that went beyond his homecoming. When he saw his wife for the first time after seven months, he was going to
tell her about his jackpot win.
Ford's story is an unlikely one. He started playing an online casino game that gave him 80 free spins. The free spins helped to wile away the time as
he waited to return. Before long, he realized that his online gaming was more than just a diversion: he won a total of $515,871 ... Show more content on

McKee (2014) informs us that genre work by providing conventions that allow efficient communication between producers and audiences. Spiderman
Homecoming has crossed numerous genres including further the science fiction, adventure branches. However, in contrast to this, the film Beauty and
the Beast encompassed a young woman showing a little girl how to read and usually with her nose in a book would allow an audience to comprehend
Bella's kind manner and intelligence being quite nerd–like. Beauty and the Beast on the surface poses as a production that exceeds Disney's usual
stereotypical depictions of gender, race, and social hierarchy. Its paints Belle as a nerdy, intelligent, and adventure seeking heroine who opposes to the
town's provincial life as opposed to the usual consideration to nerds being unattractive, socially awkward and submissive. Her smart and curious
persona who exhibits a need for more than the provincial life that is set out before her enables re–evaluates about the usual considerations placed

Spirits Homecoming
Based on the true story of Kang Il–Chul, a comfort woman, the completion and screening of "Spirits' Homecoming" was a triumph on itself, as you
can read here. The script moves on two axes: The first one takes place in 1943, during Japanese Occupation of Korea. 14–year–old Jung––min lives a
poor but happy life with her parents in the countryside. Her life changes radically for the worse, when she is picked by the Japanese army to act as a
comfort woman for the soldiers, as the authorities picked this way to comfort the stressed soldiers of the front. As her life becomes a living hell, with
the beating and raping being an everyday occurrence, she manages to make friend, Jung–min. Evenutally, along with some other girls, she tries to
escape. The second axis takes place in 1991, where an older Jing–min works as a tailor. One of her clients is the chief–priest of a temple, where the
newest members is a medium, Eun–kyeong. The young girl, who has fallen victim to rape, seems to be able to communicate with Jung–min. Two

In the first one, he depicts the horror of the conditions of the comfort girls' lives in the most graphic and cruel fashion. The grotesque sense is
heightened even more by the almost constant sound of screaming and beatings, as Cho paints Japanese soldiers with the darkest colors, since the act
like animals, with only one exception among them. This recurring theme is exemplified in an artfully photographed sequence, with a panoramic take
that shows the terrible things that occur in all of the small rooms in the building, simultaneously. There are some scenes that are quite beautiful, as the
ones in the beginning where Jung–min rides in the back of her father's bike and the one where the girls are sitting over a kind of pond and sing, but
the general sense is truly horrific, as it is

In 1958, 58 students from Missouri Valley College ran from Marshall, Missouri all the way to Orlando, Florida. "There was a group of students that
came up with an idea that they should run an Olympic style type of torch from our opponent's hometown for homecoming," said Mike Machholz. "Dr.
Leslie was involved with that as a student. So, that same year, we had a very good football team and we were selected to play in the Tangerine Bowl in
Orlando, Florida. So, they ran it for homecoming and then they thought okay this would be a great idea let's organize this and let's run it to Orlando."

somebody from the Cross Country team run a lap around the football field with a torch and you know, head out with one lap around campus. So, we
still have all the teams involved. We get two members from each team, each athletic program, and they come together."
All the teams from every sport are required to go to the Torch Run and support their two teammates that are in the race. However, anyone else can
feel free to participate in the Torch Run, as well. "They'll run a 5K, basically," said Machholz. "They'll do a lap around the football field, out three

the Torch Run including any Missouri Valley alumni in order to help honor Dr. Leslie and the other members that were involved in the 1958

Who Is The Best People I Know?
Helping Hand Have you ever wondered how much of an impact you could have on someone else's life just by doing something small for them? As
you start to grow up you make sense of helping each other out with the little things in life. Some people don't even realize they do it every day,
opening the door for someone, showing someone directions, or even just waving at them. Each day you are doing good for others by not realizing
it, and that is just what Brittany Ross continues to do. Brittany grew up in Peoria Illinois, and her family was known for the people that helped the
community. From what she can remember her family would always have volunteering come first and always would help others out. She says
"They are the best people I know" (Ross). As a child she noticed that her dad was the one to inspire her to volunteer and taught her "everything is a
blessing and to use my good to help others" (Ross). Her family was known in the community by always giving time to help everyone with whatever
they needed. They helped people who were in need of things around the house and even places that needed donations to keep in business. As of right
now she says she will come back home during breaks to help out around the community and to try to be involved. She took on a new step in life by
applying to the University of Iowa, she knew she wanted to volunteer whenever she could by joining organization's here on campus, and she became a

The Perfect Homecoming
The Perfect Homecoming
J.K. Rowling once said, "Rock bottom became the foundation on which I rebuilt my life." In 2017 the United States had one of the harshest hurricane
seasons in a long time, leaving a lot of people at "rock bottom". During the season Hurricane Harvey made landfall in Houston. The Washington post
said, "Harvey has unloaded 9 trillion gallons of water." The Weather Channel stated that Rockport, TX experienced 130 MPH winds. Thestorm was
devastating, flooding most of the city which destroyed countless buildings and homes. When one thinks of home, the first thing that comes to mind is
not always school. But to the students and staff of Lutheran South Academy, their school was not just a place to learn; but a community where
everyone feels like they are a part of a family. When disaster strikes, people lean on family for support. The disaster of Hurricane Harvey did a number
on the campus, destroying many of the buildings belonging to this community. The flooding of the LSA campus due to Hurricane Harvey displaced the
institution forcing them to struggle with the efforts of rebuilding what was destroyed in the flood. However, if people would endure the struggle
together and help rebuild instead of leaving when complications arrive then LSA would be restored in better time and of better quality.

I used "Homecoming" in The Window as a model to write my poem. Upon first reading this poem, I was struck by a scene: a woman is walking on a
white gravel lane, beneath the cathedral arch of walnut trees. Then I read it again and tried to figure out the story behind this scene. From the first and
second stanzas of this poem, it seems that this woman has been caught up in some scandals and she tries to come back home to escape from her current
situation. It is apparent that she is estranged from her family: "there would be nothing to tell them... They hadn't already been told." The description of
the woman's home in the third stanza shows that her family is not poor. The use of the phrase "main house" even indicates that her family is rich enough

The homecoming dance was another challenge to rectify prior sagging attendance. To rectify the situation, ASB established two sites of activities for
the students that necessitated two gyms, one for the dance and the other for the myriad of activities and food that entertained these eager students. As I
stood in the gym with its glittering and shimmering draperies cascading above the dancing students, I knew my ASB goals had been achieved by this
opulent event. We now earned the respect of our administration and energized our student body, and made a substantial profit. Clearly, the students at

The conflict within the Odyssey revolves around the theme of homecoming which in Greek is "nostos." In order for Odysseus to return home he must
purge his household of the suitors. The slaughter that occur near the end of the Odyssey is justified.
Many suitors had taken residence within the walls of Odysseus palace and they attempted to persuade his wife Penelope to marry them. In the duration
of their stay they depleted Odysseus' wealth and disrespected both Telemachus and Penelope during the king of Ithacas absence. Their recklessness is
paralleled in the Odyssey by Odyssues men who consume Helios cattle. Furthermore it was decreed by Poseidon who acts of vengeance against

An Inevitable Homecoming – The Enforcement of the Fugitive Slave Act
The Civil War era was a time of great turmoil for the people of America, but most notably for the African American population. Around the year of
1862 the war was being fought with the primary goal to seize the Confederate South. At this time both Northern free, male slaves and runaway slaves
from the South could enlist in the Northern Union army. However, most African Americans in the Confederacy were labored slaves on plantations
and in the homes of plantation owners. The Fugitive Slave Act of 1850 discouraged the idea for slaves to run away, as it required that all escaped
slaves, upon capture, to be returned to their respective masters. The presidential election of 1860 brought Republican candidate Abraham Lincoln into
office, a political figure known for his extreme opposition to the practice of slavery. Despite his fervent beliefs, no true impact would be made until the
Emancipation Proclamation was introduced in 1863. Until the abolishment of slavery at the end of the Civil War in 1865, African Americans
continued to face the horrors of the institution, which is given a glimpse into with the photograph that I have chosen to analyze and present to you all
today. The photograph that I selected is housed in Wilson Library's Special Collections under the North Carolina Civil War– Social Aspects collection.
It dates back to March of 1862, during the height of the Civil War, and was taken in

Homecoming In The Odysseus
When we take the time to look at The Odyssey there is a lot to examine. We can look at the different themes or how the character interacts with one
another, but one thing in particular I want to talk about is "homecoming". What are the different types of journeys that we see throughout The Odyssey
that tells about "homecoming"? There are different characters throughout the poem that strive for this goal. With this they have to interact with others
throughout the poem to effectively accomplish their goal and their journey. First, we look at what different types of journeys there are through the play.
One example, a very popular example, is Odysseus's journey home from war. After the war Odysseus is stranded on an island The only way for him
to get off is to build a boat and he gets this idea from Hermes. Hermes is the God of communication. Odysseus wants to return to Ithaca. We could
say that every obstacle and every stop in Odysseus's journey is a new homecoming. Each of his encounters with a God or Goddess is a new
homecoming. But until Odysseus is actually home in Ithaca he will not feel as though he is home. Odysseus goes through and endures a lot to get to
his final destination, but when going through this journey he realizes that the journey was the destination and that he was really home all along.
Through hid journey he was shown love and compassion. We can look at this love as agape which is Greek for "mainly love". Throughout his
homecoming Odysseus find that

the thoughts going through my head anymore. I was full of fear that I would have to go through so many days like this one in the next four years of
high school.
My father had been gone seven years now, and my mom four. I was so confused as to why I was so upset on this day when I had already gone through

I thought about today and my homecoming dress and the dance and how anxious I had been for so long and somehow all of the excitement was
decreasing. I knew my parents wouldn't want me to feel this way, because they wanted me to still live a normal and happy life without them.
I can remember the things my mom would tell me before she passed away,
"You and your sister are going to have each other and that is all that matters, you are strong princess and you will do great things in life"
I thought about my mother saying this to me and I suddenly remembered who I was and the kind of person I have always been without my parents.
Rather than weakness I have always found strength. Strength that there is a plan for everything and that everything has to happen for a reason.
Strength that my parents were watching over me and still there in my heart. Strength that even though I no longer had my two best friends in my life I
had my sister, my grandmother, my aunt, and so many other people in my life supporting me. Today I found strength though in how proud my parents
would be in me. They would be so proud of how far I have come without them even though it doesn't seem fair that they are

Throughout the novel "Homecoming," the effects of the slave trade on the characters are explored. For example, Quey, the son of Effia, feels the
pressure of carrying on his father's slave industry in the midst of struggling with his identities. According to Quey, "he was one of the half–caste
children of the Castle, and, like the other half–caste children, he could not fully claim either half of himself, neither his father's whiteness nor his
mother's blackness. Neither England nor the Gold coast" (Gyasi 55). Quey makes it clear that he struggles to find his place in the world because he
could never put an identity on himself. When asked to accept a position in his mother's village, Quey was not enthusiastic about it because he had...

To be orphaned from my native language felt, and still feels, a crucial decision" (Li 144). Yiyun mentions how she does not write in Chinese nor
does she have her books translated into Chinese. The reason for Yiyun distancing herself from her native language is because it is not "her private
language." In her memoir, Yiyun expands on how English is her private language. According to Yiyun, "English is my private language. Every
word has to be pondered over before it becomes my word...In my relationship with English, in this relationship with its intrinsic distance that makes
people look askance, I feel invisible but not estranged. It is the position I believe I always want in life" (Li,146). In the English language, Yiyun felt
she could truly express herself. Every word she thought and wrote down belonged to her. Chinese, on the other hand, was her public language. In
Chinese, Yiyun questioned if "one could form a precise thought, recall an accurate memory, or even feel a genuine feeling" (Li 147). In other words,
Chinese limited the way Yiyun could express her emotion and ideas, which is why she chose to distance herself from it. In "Dear friend, from my life
I write to you in your life" and "Homecoming," the theme of identity crisis is prominent. In the novel "Homecoming," the character of Quey struggles

Homecoming Week Essay
Homecoming
Students strut through the hall looking as if they are from another planet. A sea of bright blue flood the Wilke. Ear–piercing cheers rattle the bleachers.
Homecoming week is among the most memorable times of high school. Students are able step out of their comfort zone; whether that is by dressing in
flamboyant costumes, or meeting new people during Edgewood in the Community. No matter which event is your favorite, homecoming week is an
enjoyable and memorable time for all. The week starts off with its annual homecoming week mass. As students and faculty gather, the gym feels as if
it is bursting at the seams with excitement to finally start the festivities. Seniors involved in powderpuff were so excited to begin the week, that they
arrived at school before the sun rose. Shoes were soaked with dew, and shirts were dripping with sweat as the battle for the championship continued.
Braids, bows, and bruises can best describe the competitive flag–football league. As the sun slowly filled the sky with its warm rays, students filtered
into school wearing their best rodeo–attire. Cowboy boots clunked down the stairs, country music blasted outside of classrooms, and plaid shirts were
sported by almost everyone. During lunch mods, students were entertained with sign painting. An overwhelming number of people gathered around a
table with art supplies, almost as if they were thirsty animals at a watering hole. Orange, green, purple, and blue paint cascaded over the

Homecoming Quotes
Wow, that was quick. The entire semester just flew by!
This week we were given a set of subjects and given the task of finding quotes that relate to them. The four that were selected, the Soldier Civilian
Divide, War is Hell, Bravery and Cowardice, and lastly, Homecoming.
Kevin started the discussion with his connection of passages that have to do with the idea of homecoming. I think that homecoming plays a significant
part of war, whether it be a soldier or group of soldiers leaving the front line for good, or simply coming home for a short time. It's such a crucial and
important part of the war narrative and Kevin's quotes really put an emphasis on that. He discusses the great importance of the idea and the actual act
of coming home, and

The Day Of The Homecoming Football Game
"Hurry up, guys," I yelled to my sister and mother. "Y'all are going to make me late!" It was October 4th, the night of the homecoming football
game. The game started in fifteen minutes and we hadn't even left the house yet. The frustration I had toward them kept growing inside me until I
decided to leave without them and make them drive separately. I jumped in my car and quickly headed to the game despite the pouring rain.
Certain rash decisions that are made throughout life can never be forgotten because they make such a huge impact in our lives. Sometimes
something that seems horrible at first, may benefit you in the long run of life. The decision I made that night, turned out to be the one that I will
remember forever. I pulled out of my driveway behind a white pickup truck that was speeding and thought to myself how lucky I was to have not
gotten behind someone driving slowly. Keeping up with the truck was easy, knowing I wouldn't get a speeding ticket if the driver in front of me was
going the same speed. As I drove around a curve, going a little too fast for this particular twist in the road, the right front tire of my jeep caught the
gravel on the side of the road. The roads were slick from rain and applying the brakes caused me to hydroplane, then lose control and head into the
ditch on the right side of the road. Scared to death, I jerked the wheel to get back onto the road, which I should've never done. Turning the steering
wheel too hard,

The Homecoming Of Odysseus
The Odyssey of Homer is a fascinating epic of the homecoming of Odysseus, one of the most influential heroes of the Trojan war. This homecoming
journey of Odysseus which serves as a means of teaching him greater lessons of life and humility. Furthermore, Odyssey beautifully portrays the
transformation Telemachus, the son ofOdysseus, from a scared little boy to a confident warrior.
Athena, the goddess of wisdom, wants to make the homecoming of Odysseus successful. The successful homecoming according to Athene's plan won't
be accomplished just by the mere return of Odysseus to Ithaka. The definition of Athena's version of Odysseus' homecoming includes the return of

As a result, Athena is there to advise and prepare Telemachus for her greater plan of the homecoming of Odysseus. Athena's first goal is pointed out by
her statement, "Tomorrow, summon the Achaian warriors into assembly / and publish your word to all...Tell suitors to scatter and go back to their own
holdings" (1.272–274) which commands Telemachus to call an assembly for suitors and tell them to leave his household. Further, Athena suggests
Telemachus visit Nestor and Menelaus, who was his father's friend in the Trojan war by the statement "First go to Pylos, and there question the great
Nestor, / and from there go over to Sparta to see fair–haired Menelaos, / since he came from home last of all the bronze–armored Achains."
(1.284–286). Finally, the words of Athena "after you have made an end of these matters, and done them, / next you must consider well in your heart
and spirit some means by which you can kill the suitors who are in your household, / by treachery or open attack." (1.293–296) reveals her final plan
for Telemachus that he must find a way to kill the suitors after his return.

Personal Narrative: Homecoming Week
My reflection was pensive as I stared at the window. I found myself sitting in homeroom. The lights were dimmed with only the soft disturbance
sound of scratching pencils and tapping rain. My notebook was opened, and on a page, I had sketched the house I had seen on Friday. The third door.
I hadn't seen Gemma since the experience. Aside from an early morning glimpse, afar, as she floated off toward class. She appeared exceptionally
distraught after the last experience, though I couldn't blame her. But I had a suspicion she didn't want to see me, converse.
I closed my notebook and breathed out a sigh. This week was homecoming week, the big game was on Friday, and the dance was on Saturday. Today
was Monday.
I still didn't have a date for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There was no escape now, however, as the mass of students came pouring out of classrooms, sending them their exaltations of cheers and praise.
"Big Jare man, congratulations!"
"Hey, Jared! You gonna win the big game on Friday?"
"East Bay!"
"You guys are gonna crush!"
"I nominated you!"
I nodded gratefully and quickly escaped to a nearby water fountain. Too much attention made me feel anxious. Which I was all too aware was a
deviant stereotypical trait for a "football jock." A homecoming king. I had just leaned down to take a sip, when just then, in my peripheral, I spied a
pair of black boots, tapping.
"You know, for being so popular, you're actually kind of hard to find."
Leaning up against the lockers beside me, was Celeste's dark eyes and black grinning lips.
I stood up and wiped my mouth with the corner edge sleeve of his letterman jacket.
"Hey," I cleared my throat, "Can I help you?"
"Oh, of course, can I help you?" she exasperated, clearly offended. "Because apparently, every girl needs a man to help her. Well let me just tell you,

Homecoming Sadness
Dark alleys frighten me, If I was ever to find myself in one I would die right there. Sadly, I know a lightless alley. It's the place where my best friend
was going to be killed, murdered, assassinated. Did I want to know this information, no, but I was forced to.
It was in school the other day, I was walking to my second class of the day and I overheard my friends name. It came from the boys locker room, so I
stood outside listening to what they were saying, they saw me and pulled me in. I wasn 't ready for what I was about to hear, and I never knew it would
affect me till the day I die. The plan was set for the day of homecoming, it was her date, he had made this adorable proposal for homecoming but it was

We were going to go as a group but she got asked by a boy to go to homecoming with him.
I left the locker room and I just wanted to cry and go home, I knew I had to continue on with my day so I went to my second class. It was econ and she
would be with me. What was I to do, I couldn 't ignore her, she 's my friend and she 'd know something was up. So I put on a brave face and sat next to
her, I acted as if I never heard anything.
I finished the school day and went running home, I didn 't want to take the bus, she 's on my bus. As I was walking home, I start balling, the
emotions over flew my body. My head was down, the sadness in my body forced my head down. It was a battle in me, happiness versus sadness
and sadness was winning the war. I never wanted any of this to happen, I can only think of the other scenarios. What if, I had just walked past the
locker room and didn 't go to eavesdrop, what if? Nothing was going to be the same, I was a completely different person this morning and now I 'm
at this. No one was home, both of my parents were working late today so I would have some time alone. Homecoming was in 2 days, and for all
this to happen within 2 days is crazy. Sitting in my room, I couldn 't believe this would all end, all the memories we 've had together are soon going to
be gone. We had picked out our dresses together and we both cried together when she got asked to homecoming. I didn't do anything

Homecoming School Pride
Homecoming is a day where our school pride can be seen throughout the entire student body, and when clubs come together to showcase what they are
all about. I did not realize there was an immense amount of planning going on behind the scenes, until I was placed in charge of the parade portion of
the event in my sophomore year. Throughout organizing the event, I began to see how Homecoming brought students of my high school and people of
the community together. It helped renewed the school pride that had been fading from our school over the years and reminded students to be proud of
their alma mater.
I believe that a person learns best when they are surrounded by people who want to see them succeed. I love helping others reach their goals as

Homecoming Summary
Novel: Homecoming
Author: Cynthia Voigt
Report by: Sophia Anderson
Genre: The genre is adventure. Four kids are going all over the Northeast part of the country to find their family, when abandoned by their mother.
Plot Summary: When four kids, Dicey, James, Sammy, and Maybeth Tillerman are left on their own at a mall in Conneticut, they decide to travel many
miles to find their other family, whom they have never met, Aunt Cilla. After locating her house, they only want to stay together as a family, so even
though the Tillermans find she isn't there, only her daughter, they chose to stay with her for a while. Discovering that this would not be their forever

The Tillermans first start their journey in a city called Provincetown, where they first lived, next, they travel to Bridgeport, where they find their cousin,
after that, they end up in Crisfield, where their mother grew up.
Mood: While finding their Aunt Cilla, the mood is worried, because in this book, it's all improv, where the Tillermans must find a new shelter every
day, somehow make money, and they aren't sure if they even get to eat daily, so they worry.
Tone: I think the tone is hopeful, because the Tillermans just want to stay one family, so they do everything to stick together. Through everything, the
good and the bad, they believe things will turn out right, hoping, and eventually their lives improve.
Theme: The theme may be stick together. As long as you have people there to support and help you, you can count on things to turn out alright. When
their family split up, things weren't perfect, but when Dicey, James, Sammy, and Maybeth stuck together, their life was always getting better, especially
when they discovered their grandmother.
Irony: It's ironic that, Mr. Rudyard came to attack the Tillermans, for running away, but he got attacked instead.
Imagery: "The leaves made designs on the background of the sky, intricate patterns that shifted with any slightest breeze." On page 69, this creates a
picture in your mind, making it imagery.
Symbolism: This book has a boat in it, that the Tillermans travel on for a while, and it

Personal Writing : Homecoming Traditions In High School
Lurking in the 83–degree weather of October is a classic high school theme. There are dozens of movies whose entire plot describes a high school
homecoming. Homecoming rituals at my high school are very clichГ©; everything revolves around dress up week, the football game, and the
(dreaded) dance. Dress up week is always a lot of fun. Not only do the teachers' get really into it, the students do too. The week of homecoming was
always a 4–day week and that only adds to the excitement. The start of the week is time travel Tuesday and the classes all have different eras to
coordinate with. Seniors always had the coolest of the eras as they get the 40's. My senior year I dressed as a pearl–wearing, casserole–carrying
housewife. Wednesdays are character week and I made a habit of always dressing up as my sister because we are twins and it was a fun joke to play.
My personal favorite of the days is Thursday. The seniors dress up in togas and their crowns. Inevitably there is the one boy whose mom didn't pin
his toga just right and he thinks going nude under it is a rite of passage and flashes half of the school in the lunch room. Friday is school spirit day,
the entire school screams raider pride with glitter, face paint, and lots of maroon and black–– all in preparation for the football game. Friday
night–lights is always a party, add homecoming hype and it's an experience. The game opens with the presentation of the homecoming court. The girls
are in big

Homecoming Failure

  • 1. Homecoming Failure In my time as a student I have rarely seen latinos in positions of power. Much less in student council, where I was the only latina up until last year. Imagine the surprise that came to me when I found out I had been chosen to be the head of homecoming. At first, panic set in. What if I didn't do a good job? What if homecoming failed due to my failing as a leader? If homecoming failed, I would I give into the stereotype of an incompetent mexican? All these questions loomed in my head. Eventually, I realized this was my chance to prove myself, and prove that others of my race could do just as good a job as my caucasian counterparts. Once I gained confidence in my ability to lead student council into producing a great homecoming, the initial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Homecoming Poem Wilfred Owen's Anthem for Doomed Youth and Bruce Dawe's Homecoming are thematically connected poems which explore the futility of war and the treatment of deceased combatants. Both Owen and Dawe served in the military and were controversial condemners in all that they penned on World War One and the Vietnam War respectively. Despite this, these texts do not explicitly state these views, but rather evoke the sympathy of the audience utilising subtle poetic techniques including contrast, flesh imagery and death imagery. Contrast is one of the most apparent devices within Homecoming and Anthem for Doomed Youth and is used to create a pervading sense of war's irony. The very title of Dawe's poem, "Homecoming", has the positive connotations of family reunion but... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This quotation is heavy with religious imagery of the passage to heaven, impressed upon the reader by the purposeful placement of commas. Throughout history religion has been misused as justification of the military institution, and Dawe considers the contradictory nature of these ideologies; one preaching peace and the other incentivising the indiscriminate killing of one's neighbour. These shadows, however, do not simply pass over untouched land but the countryside they have scarred; metaphorically envisioned as "steaming chow mein" and likened to Australia's "knuckled hills" and "desert emptiness". The irony of this poem truly peaks when in spite of all his condemnation, Dawe momentarily admires "the mash, the splendour" of war, emphasising its eternal allure. Anthem for Doomed Youth shares this ironic contrast, comparing traditional funeral rites to war. From the opening stanza the audience is immersed in cacophony of battle, with Owen utilising the alliteration of "rifles' rapid rattle" to emulate the sound produced by the "monstrous anger of guns". Personification is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Homecoming Research Paper I've always loved Homecoming and one of my favorite parts of homecoming is being apart of the committee that plans the events. This past year we got a new football field and were no longer allowed to have our homecoming floats on the field. This lead to the cancellation of float building, one of the schools biggest bonding experiences, as well as our homecoming parade. When we realized there was no way of bringing floats back, we decided as a committee to brainstorm events that could replace it. I suggested the idea of a carnival. We ended up deciding to have the carnival and since I came up with the idea, I was put in charge of planning the first annual carnival. Our field was closed due to construction, subsequently clubs weren't able ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Sociological Experiences Of High School And College... Coming into college, one major thing I was excited for was the week of homecoming. In high school, I always had the most spirit and this week was one of my favorites. That being said, I looked forward to participating in the homecoming events this past fall football season. I gained from this experience is that both high school and college homecomings are sociological events that can be compared in many ways. The homecoming I am most familiar with is a high school homecoming. During the week, students would practice agency meaning the freedom individuals have to choose and act (Witt, 5). If you didn't want to participate in anything, people wouldn't force you to do it. Every day we would have different theme to go with our overall theme for the week. By putting up posters the week before, we used nonverbal communication, the use of gestures, facial expressions, and other visual images to communicate (Witt, 53) to spread the word about upcoming days. By the end of the week, everyone was ready to skip our last class and go to our infamous Pep Rally. At our Pep Rally you could see the different subcultures, segment of society that shares a distinctive pattern of mores, folkways, and values that differ from the pattern of the larger society (p.59) in the separation of the classes. A norm, which is an established standard or behavior maintained by society (Witt, 55), is seen throughout the gym with students wearing our school colors red, black, and white. Different students ... • 5. Imagery In Homecoming If anything is known about war, it progressively gets worse throughout history. The weapons have become far more powerful, the losses are much greater, and worst of all, soldiers visions of hell have become a reality. War, centuries ago, seemed to young eager young men as an adventure, a chance for glory, an honorable way to die; however, these opinions shifted as time went on. Many if not most of the soldiers today go towar to defend their country, their loved ones, and everything else they hold dear in the hopes that the battles they fight will one day come to an end and they will be able to come home. Millions of soldiers kept their journals, shared their own war stories, or have had their legends written and passed down throughout the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the first line, "Bent double, like old beggars under sacks," is a simile comparing the soldiers trudging along to old women with canes. In the third line it states, "Till on the haunting flares we turned our backs" meaning that the soldiers had to turn away or change direction from their previous camp and move forward. "Drunk with fatigue; deaf even to the hoots...Of disappointed shells that dropped behind" describes how the soldiers were just out of reach of enemy fire. There is a connotation through lines 13–16 where it says, "Dim, through the misty panes and thick green light...As under a green sea, I saw him drowning. In all my dreams, before my helpless sight, He plunges at me guttering, choking, drowning..." It then continues on to shift from "...He plunges at me guttering, choking, drowning" to "If in some smothering dreams you too could pace... Behind the wagon that we flung him in," bringing a past experience to the current time in the poem. "His hanging face, like a devil's sick of sin" is highly unlikely because it's impossible for the devil to be sick of sin. A little bit later in the poem, Owen writes, "Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud," being a bit graphic but once again bringing back the bitter reality of war and that death is not a pleasant thing to ... • 6. The Incident Of Troy University 's Homecoming "Something bad is about to happen," I stated as I looked over to my cousin's best friend. Apparently, I had spoken too soon. Pow! Pow! Shots were fired. Crowds of people were frantically running in every direction. What had just happened was not expected and had definitely never taken place before. Troy University's Homecoming Weekend in the past years had never encountered violence on this level. There was maybe a fight here and there, but never gunshots. I had never been so scared in my life. Troy University Homecoming 2016 had officially been ruined after this night. That weekend began like any other homecoming weekend. It was filled with fraternity parties, tailgating, and much more. A sense of nervousness came over my body as I began to look at the capacity of people standing outside waiting. That's when I noticed two groups of people having a confrontation right behind my group of friends. The conversation quickly escalated as one of the members of the group swings a punch at another member of the other group. The brawl was on; in a blink of an eye, both groups were on the ground tumbling and throwing punches. People were running towards the fight for some odd reason; instead, me and the girls ran towards the door of the building. "Something bad is about to happen," I stated as I looked over to my cousin's best friend. Apparently I had spoken too soon. As I watched one of the members of the fight get up from the ground and reach into his pocket, I knew what was coming next. Fear immediately took over my body. Pow! Pow! Shots were fired. Crowds of people were frantically running in every direction. I began to bang on the door of the building in terror. Thankfully, someone inside the party heard the gunshots, and ran to open the door for us. Everyone stampeded into the lobby of Sartain Hall like a herd of animals. I looked over to my right, in hopes that at least my cousin had made it inside the building. She was nowhere to be found. • 7. American Patriotism : The Tragedy Of American Patriotism Edmund Burke once said that the only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men– or, in my case, women– to do nothing. It is therefore important to stand for what one believes in at all times, no matter the stakes, for if one fails to do so when it matters little, they will certainly fail to do so when it matters much. Although I was in no real danger, I experienced a subtle version of this social phenomenon during my senior year of high school in a controversial display of American patriotism. Kennesaw Mountain High School school has a spirit week in the days leading up to homecoming. Each day has a theme, be it Tacky Tuesday, College Wear Wednesday, or Throwback Thursday. During my senior year, just after the kneeling of the NFL players, the student government and I decided to try something new: Freedom Friday, in which students wear patriotic clothing as a celebration of American freedom. We thought it was harmless fun, but it soon became a controversial, and even threatening, topic. Groups of people were agreeing to wear black to demonstrate the "social injustice of America", resulting in a snowball effect encompassing about a quarter of a school of 3000. Although I disagreed with their point, I was respectful of their peaceful protest, as one of the great things about our country is the ability of the people to demonstrate their opinions through free speech. Then, the rumors started. They occurred on private channels, behind closed doors. The word on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Pep Rally Argumentative Essay Based on the criteria we set as a class, I determined that the Pep Rally went successful. A Pep Rally is where we compete against other grade levels in order to win a prize. The prizes are homework–free for a week and having a week to listen to music during lunch. Although, in order to receive this prize you must win the break down. A break down is when we stomp on the floor to make sick beats. Each grade level gets a turn to participate the break down in other words, who ever stomps the loudest wins! The criteria that I used to evaluate the SGMS Pep Rally was Energy, Loud, Good Music, Games, and Performances/Visitors. One reason why the Pep Rally went successful is Energy. Although, teachers didn't seem to have that much energy at the Pep Rally. But, the whole students had a lot of energy they just wanna go KABOOM. During, the Pep Rally students were jumping on the bleachers cheering for their Team. Also, teachers and students were screaming saying their favorite quote "THIS IS OUR HOUSE"!!!. Lastly, students were stomping as Loud as thunder where they can make their team better than any other grade levels. Another, reason that the Pep Rally went successful is Performances or Visitors. Now we didn't have any Performances or Visitors that came to SGMS because in my opinion I think maybe their still practicing their dances or... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mentally tired and physically exhausted, his entire goal was to reconnect with his life and enjoy being with his family after months apart. Unlike most soldiers returning from tour, he had a surprise that went beyond his homecoming. When he saw his wife for the first time after seven months, he was going to tell her about his jackpot win. Ford's story is an unlikely one. Spiderman Homecoming has crossed numerous genres including further the science fiction, adventure branches. However, in contrast to this, the film Beauty and the Beast encompassed a young woman showing a little girl how to read and usually with her nose in a book would allow an audience to comprehend Bella's kind manner and intelligence being quite nerd–like. Beauty and the Beast on the surface poses as a production that exceeds Disney's usual stereotypical depictions of gender, race, and social hierarchy. Its paints Belle as a nerdy, intelligent, and adventure seeking heroine who opposes to the town's provincial life as opposed to the usual consideration to nerds being unattractive, socially awkward and submissive. • 12. Spirits Homecoming Based on the true story of Kang Il–Chul, a comfort woman, the completion and screening of "Spirits' Homecoming" was a triumph on itself, as you can read here. The script moves on two axes: The first one takes place in 1943, during Japanese Occupation of Korea. 14–year–old Jung––min lives a poor but happy life with her parents in the countryside. Her life changes radically for the worse, when she is picked by the Japanese army to act as a comfort woman for the soldiers, as the authorities picked this way to comfort the stressed soldiers of the front. As her life becomes a living hell, with the beating and raping being an everyday occurrence, she manages to make friend, Jung–min. Evenutally, along with some other girls, she tries to escape. The second axis takes place in 1991, where an older Jing–min works as a tailor. One of her clients is the chief–priest of a temple, where the newest members is a medium, Eun–kyeong. The young girl, who has fallen victim to rape, seems to be able to communicate with Jung–min. Two radically different axes... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This recurring theme is exemplified in an artfully photographed sequence, with a panoramic take that shows the terrible things that occur in all of the small rooms in the building, simultaneously. There are some scenes that are quite beautiful, as the ones in the beginning where Jung–min rides in the back of her father's bike and the one where the girls are sitting over a kind of pond and sing, but the general sense is truly horrific, as it is ... • 13. Homecoming In 1958, 58 students from Missouri Valley College ran from Marshall, Missouri all the way to Orlando, Florida. "There was a group of students that came up with an idea that they should run an Olympic style type of torch from our opponent's hometown for homecoming," said Mike Machholz. "Dr. Leslie was involved with that as a student. So, that same year, we had a very good football team and we were selected to play in the Tangerine Bowl in Orlando, Florida. So, they ran it for homecoming and then they thought okay this would be a great idea let's organize this and let's run it to Orlando." "When Dr. Leslie had his stroke, we had already had conversations about how to change this, he and I had. We decided that we would come up with a different idea. The idea now, to honor Dr. Leslie and that group that did the original run, what we do to keep the spirit alive, is have somebody from the Cross Country team run a lap around the football field with a torch and you know, head out with one lap around campus. So, we still have all the teams involved. We get two members from each team, each athletic program, and they come together." All the teams from every sport are required to go to the Torch Run and support their two teammates that are in the race. However, anyone else can feel free to participate in the Torch Run, as well. "They'll run a 5K, basically," said Machholz. "They'll do a lap around the football field, out three laps around campus, and then come back and finish in front of the stadium." • 14. Who Is The Best People I Know? Helping Hand Have you ever wondered how much of an impact you could have on someone else's life just by doing something small for them? As you start to grow up you make sense of helping each other out with the little things in life. Some people don't even realize they do it every day, opening the door for someone, showing someone directions, or even just waving at them. Each day you are doing good for others by not realizing it, and that is just what Brittany Ross continues to do. Brittany grew up in Peoria Illinois, and her family was known for the people that helped the community. From what she can remember her family would always have volunteering come first and always would help others out. She says "They are the best people I know" (Ross). As a child she noticed that her dad was the one to inspire her to volunteer and taught her "everything is a blessing and to use my good to help others" (Ross). Her family was known in the community by always giving time to help everyone with whatever they needed. They helped people who were in need of things around the house and even places that needed donations to keep in business. As of right now she says she will come back home during breaks to help out around the community and to try to be involved. She took on a new step in life by applying to the University of Iowa, she knew she wanted to volunteer whenever she could by joining organization's here on campus, and she became a resident assistant. • 15. The Perfect Homecoming The Perfect Homecoming J.K. Rowling once said, "Rock bottom became the foundation on which I rebuilt my life." In 2017 the United States had one of the harshest hurricane seasons in a long time, leaving a lot of people at "rock bottom". During the season Hurricane Harvey made landfall in Houston. The Washington post said, "Harvey has unloaded 9 trillion gallons of water." The Weather Channel stated that Rockport, TX experienced 130 MPH winds. Thestorm was devastating, flooding most of the city which destroyed countless buildings and homes. When one thinks of home, the first thing that comes to mind is not always school. But to the students and staff of Lutheran South Academy, their school was not just a place to learn; but a community where everyone feels like they are a part of a family. When disaster strikes, people lean on family for support. The disaster of Hurricane Harvey did a number on the campus, destroying many of the buildings belonging to this community. The flooding of the LSA campus due to Hurricane Harvey displaced the institution forcing them to struggle with the efforts of rebuilding what was destroyed in the flood. However, if people would endure the struggle together and help rebuild instead of leaving when complications arrive then LSA would be restored in better time and of better quality. • 16. The Window Homecoming I used "Homecoming" in The Window as a model to write my poem. Upon first reading this poem, I was struck by a scene: a woman is walking on a white gravel lane, beneath the cathedral arch of walnut trees. Then I read it again and tried to figure out the story behind this scene. From the first and second stanzas of this poem, it seems that this woman has been caught up in some scandals and she tries to come back home to escape from her current situation. It is apparent that she is estranged from her family: "there would be nothing to tell them... They hadn't already been told." The description of the woman's home in the third stanza shows that her family is not poor. The use of the phrase "main house" even indicates that her family is rich enough ... Magenta, turquoise, and auburn glimmered in the ceiling of the refurbished gymnasium as hundreds of students engulfed the area for the Homecoming dance. For the preceding months, I had spent numerous hours quarreling with members of the ASB Executive Council, trying to formulate a plan to diminish the apathy that pervaded our school. The student morale was at an all time low, and the administration had lost confidence in the ability of ASB to successfully conduct school events.? As I stood in the gym with its glittering and shimmering draperies cascading above the dancing students, I knew my ASB goals had been achieved by this opulent event. Clearly, the students at Fallbrook High had lost their lethargy and regained their commitment to the school. This experience truly defined who I became and who I am now as a leader. An Inevitable Homecoming : An Inevitable Homecoming An Inevitable Homecoming – The Enforcement of the Fugitive Slave Act The Civil War era was a time of great turmoil for the people of America, but most notably for the African American population. Around the year of 1862 the war was being fought with the primary goal to seize the Confederate South. At this time both Northern free, male slaves and runaway slaves from the South could enlist in the Northern Union army. However, most African Americans in the Confederacy were labored slaves on plantations and in the homes of plantation owners. The Fugitive Slave Act of 1850 discouraged the idea for slaves to run away, as it required that all escaped slaves, upon capture, to be returned to their respective masters. The presidential election of 1860 brought Republican candidate Abraham Lincoln into office, a political figure known for his extreme opposition to the practice of slavery. Despite his fervent beliefs, no true impact would be made until the Emancipation Proclamation was introduced in 1863. Until the abolishment of slavery at the end of the Civil War in 1865, African Americans continued to face the horrors of the institution, which is given a glimpse into with the photograph that I have chosen to analyze and present to you all today. • 23. Homecoming In The Odysseus When we take the time to look at The Odyssey there is a lot to examine. We can look at the different themes or how the character interacts with one another, but one thing in particular I want to talk about is "homecoming". What are the different types of journeys that we see throughout The Odyssey that tells about "homecoming"? There are different characters throughout the poem that strive for this goal. With this they have to interact with others throughout the poem to effectively accomplish their goal and their journey. First, we look at what different types of journeys there are through the play. One example, a very popular example, is Odysseus's journey home from war. After the war Odysseus is stranded on an island The only way for him to get off is to build a boat and he gets this idea from Hermes. Hermes is the God of communication. Odysseus wants to return to Ithaca. We could say that every obstacle and every stop in Odysseus's journey is a new homecoming. Each of his encounters with a God or Goddess is a new homecoming. But until Odysseus is actually home in Ithaca he will not feel as though he is home. Odysseus goes through and endures a lot to get to his final destination, but when going through this journey he realizes that the journey was the destination and that he was really home all along. Through hid journey he was shown love and compassion. We can look at this love as agape which is Greek for "mainly love". Throughout his homecoming Odysseus find that ... Seniors involved in powderpuff were so excited to begin the week, that they arrived at school before the sun rose. Shoes were soaked with dew, and shirts were dripping with sweat as the battle for the championship continued. Braids, bows, and bruises can best describe the competitive flag–football league. As the sun slowly filled the sky with its warm rays, students filtered into school wearing their best rodeo–attire. Cowboy boots clunked down the stairs, country music blasted outside of classrooms, and plaid shirts were sported by almost everyone. During lunch mods, students were entertained with sign painting. The frustration I had toward them kept growing inside me until I decided to leave without them and make them drive separately. I jumped in my car and quickly headed to the game despite the pouring rain. Certain rash decisions that are made throughout life can never be forgotten because they make such a huge impact in our lives. Sometimes something that seems horrible at first, may benefit you in the long run of life. The decision I made that night, turned out to be the one that I will remember forever. I pulled out of my driveway behind a white pickup truck that was speeding and thought to myself how lucky I was to have not gotten behind someone driving slowly. Keeping up with the truck was easy, knowing I wouldn't get a speeding ticket if the driver in front of me was going the same speed. Tone: I think the tone is hopeful, because the Tillermans just want to stay one family, so they do everything to stick together. Through everything, the good and the bad, they believe things will turn out right, hoping, and eventually their lives improve. Theme: The theme may be stick together. As long as you have people there to support and help you, you can count on things to turn out alright. When their family split up, things weren't perfect, but when Dicey, James, Sammy, and Maybeth stuck together, their life was always getting better, especially when they discovered their grandmother. There are dozens of movies whose entire plot describes a high school homecoming. Homecoming rituals at my high school are very clichГ©; everything revolves around dress up week, the football game, and the (dreaded) dance. Dress up week is always a lot of fun. Not only do the teachers' get really into it, the students do too. The week of homecoming was always a 4–day week and that only adds to the excitement. The start of the week is time travel Tuesday and the classes all have different eras to coordinate with. Seniors always had the coolest of the eras as they get the 40's. My senior year I dressed as a pearl–wearing, casserole–carrying housewife. Wednesdays are character week and I made a habit of always dressing up as my sister because we are twins and it was a fun joke to play. My personal favorite of the days is Thursday.
