The Perfect Family Became A Broken Home
"She is not in there. She is gone, and she said she was not coming back," whimpered my dad. At that
moment, that is all we ever knew. It was all anyone ever knew. The perfect family became a broken
home in 2009, but not just any broken home. It became a home searching for a renewing, searching
for a reconnection. With whom? Well, we did not quite know that answer at that point of our
beautiful tragedy either. From the alcoholic father, to the sleepless mother, I grew up in a family that
seemed perfect enough for me. My dad, my mom, my sister Charli, and I spent most weekends with
my dad 's family, our friends, and my dad 's best friend Darrell. Other than the times my dad would
lash out in anger while he was drunk, life was happy–go–lucky. Every day, every year was a routine.
My dad would get off work; we would get out of school. Around five o 'clock my mom would be
home, and we all would go do our usual get together, which most the time consisted of watching the
men of the group drink, our mom 's bringing us home early, and then the men coming in late hours
of the night. Over the next few years the situation got worse. My dad hardly came home without
being drunk, and my mom spent hours on top of hours waiting up on him. Eventually, she got tired
of it, I guess. In the summer of 2009, my Aunt Amy and grandmother had taken us on vacation
traveling from Nashville, Tennessee to Natchez, Mississippi. While on the Natchez Trace, we did
not have a worry in the world. We spent

Lilly Hoss: A Short Story
My Story
Growing up I loved being called Lilly Hoss, after school I would go over to the High school and
walk around with my dad or I would sit in the office. It was awesome having my dad as a principle.
When there was high school games we would stay after school and set stuff up for the event that
night. I loved it so much. Then after the games my dad and his friends would all get together and
drink and just have fun. Then it seemed normal every Friday night to go someone's house and while
they had fun I would take care of all the kids. When I was in Fifth grade my sister and I came home
from school. When we got home from school my dad was so happy to see us. Then he asked if we
wanted to go outside and play for a little bit. He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My grandpa came and picked me up from practice, then picked Kara up from there practice before
the game. Then he just said that dad was sick and mom went home to take care of him. But on the
car ride home I knew something was going on. I asked if everything was okay. My grandpa said that
dad was just sick. I knew that everything wasn't okay, something is happening because my mom
wouldn't went home to take care of dad. When we walked in the door we knew something was
wrong. My mom told us to sit down, and my dad to go outside. Then she told us that the police came
to our house today and took dad's phone. That he has done something bad. One night he was drunk
and sent a picture to a high school girl of his chest and told the girl to send one back. My mom told
my sister that it is up to you but I don't think you should go back to the game tonight. She said that
she wanted to stay here with us. It was a Friday so we didn't half to go back to school tomorrow. But
it was all over TV, newspaper, social media. Then when I went back to school that Monday I was
doing well, then my teacher asked if I was okay. I said yes at first then, I fell straight to the ground
and said know. I asked why would I be okay, my life is over and everybody hates me. My teacher
got me up and told me to sit on her lap. She said you are your own person, people love you. Then
later it was back in the news

Should Men Stay At Home Dad Research Paper
Is it okay for a man to be a stay at home dad and the woman to be the breadwinner? When it comes
to this question whether a woman should let their men become a stay at home dad, people have
different opinions about this topic. In modern society, men are viewed as the breadwinner, but then
again it has always been that way. This tradition goes further back even in ancient times, male and
females recognized their gender roles. The men would always leave to hunt for food and water,
while the women would stay to care for the children but, as you know things change over time. We
live in a time where females are no longer obligated to be a stay at home mom. Women have fought
their way through this stereotype that women cannot do the same things as men. Therefore, why
can't men be accepted to be stay at home dads? "SAHDs also have to contend with the societal
perception that being a househusband is unmanly" (Sacks, 257). Many would see men as "unmanly"
for being a stay at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fathers struggle to find acceptance within the role of a stay at home dad because men have always
been viewed as the breadwinner. It makes men feel worthless for not being the one providing for
their family financially. In my opinion, there really is no difference with being a stay at home mom
or a stay at home dad. Even for stay at home moms, people will view the women as a freeloader, and
lazy just as with stay at home dads because they choose to be at home to care for their children.
Whether it is the mother or the father that decides to be the primary caregiver or the breadwinner
both will still benefit from it. Parents will still be able to save money, and care for their children by
being a stay at home parent. In addition, this teaches children that there are really no gender roles.
Men can do whatever women are capable of doing just as women are able to do what men are
capable of

Nontraditional Gender Roles Essay
Many men and women today are choosing to take on nontraditional gender roles. People are
embracing their individuality and living their lives in a way that contrasts what many have been
raised to believe. Regardless, in our society, the traditional roles of men and women in regards to the
family have always been clear, the man goes to work and is the financial provider for the family
while the woman stays at home, watches over the children and monitors the cleanliness of the house.
However men and women have realized in recent years that both gender are capable of their
opposites duties regardless of what society believes. A plethora of the population have began to
break the "rules" of gender responsibilities and stereotypes. ... Show more content on

If Brady had a "wife" she would take on the roles of the traditional father. She would go back to
school, provide for the family if need be. She would not have to worry about the children's needs so
Brady could focus on herself and her well being. Sacks essay contrasts Brady's essay by explaining
the benefits of having the father stay at home to take care of the classic mother duties. "... men
interfere with their wives' career aspirations by their refusal to become their children's primary
caregivers forcing women to sidetrack their careers if they want children" (Sacks 265). Children
who are raised with a stay at home dad are equally influenced by both parents. Although the father is
taking on the traditional roles of the mother, no one can replace the care children receive from their
mom. The mom is still the mom and the dad is still the dad. The children will do dad things with
their dad and will still do mom things with their mom, even if the mom is not at home with the
children all day. Men and women alike are capable of caring for their children with the same level of
tenderness. A Majority of people believe stay at home fathers are lackadaisical, unable to find work
or too feminine to bear the load of providing. Providing for the family can come in many different
forms. Whether is it working a 9 to 5 job or staying home and watching over the children.

My Experience In My Life
Life
Imagine being in a family that always had so much going on, so many people running around going
places, doing things, coming over, basically just always busy. Being the youngest it was never easy,
always feeling like no one had time for me, not understand that I am not the only kid that has to be
taken care of.
It was the first day of kindergarten, my mother took me to the school and as we were walking in she
told me, "Don't worry sweetheart, you are going to make so many friends and mommy will be here
to pick you up after the day is over." We hadn't even made it into the classroom and I was already
crying because I didn't want to leave my mom. I had never been away from my her for a whole day,
how in the world did they expect me to do that when I was only about five years old. She told me it
would be alright and then proceeded to go back home. I spent half of the day in the classroom
crying, refusing to do anything but eventually gave in because I was hungry. When my mom picked
me up from school that day, she asked me how the day was, and by that time I had forgotten about
how scared I was to be without her. I was so excited for the next day. It was the end of the school
year and I was loving it, I felt like I was finally getting the attention from the adults in my life that I
had always been wanting. My teacher was great and always so caring and nice to me, she almost
seemed overly nice to me but I didn't think anything of it because I was loving every minute of

How Working Moms And Dads
Growing up, I always dreamt of being a wonderful mother and wife. I want to be a woman that
works hard and also takes cares of her responsibilities. Coming up is seemed like the right thing for
a mom to be home taking care of the children while The Father is at work. As life goes on the roles
have switched. What used to be traditional is no longer traditional. In a Modern day family, Either
the mother works while dad is home, maybe there is no dad, or maybe both parents work. Today's
American families are more likely than those of past decades to feature two full–time working
parents. According to A new Pew Research Center report looks at how working moms and dads in
two–parent households are balancing their jobs with their family ... Show more content on

Some 54% of parents in households with two full–time working parents say the mother does more to
manage the children's schedule and activities, while 39% say this task is shared equally and 6% say
the father does more. And 47% say the mother takes on more when their children fall ill, equal to the
share saying they split this duty equally; just 6% say the father does more of this. Although i
disagree i believe splitting everything down the middle, that puts the stress on both parents instead
of one. i disagree with her theory because fathers don 't like doing womanly things. I don 't see a
father coming home cooking dinner after a long 12 hour shift at work. Nor can mom if she worked
the same hours. If both parents work who has time to do anything when they do get home. Their too
tired to interact with their family which will take a toll on the children. If both parents are taking on
the roles how do they determine who 's spending more time with the children? How do they decide
who picks up one week to the next ? About four–in–ten full–time working mothers say they spend
too little time with their kids. By comparison, 18% of part–time working mothers and 11% of non–
working mothers say the same. For their part, working fathers are significantly more likely than
working mothers to say they spend too little time with their children – fully half of full–time
working fathers say this is the case. But there was a time when a 'family'

walk down South Padre Island. Her dad Ej was at work just coming home. " Macie, I have some bad
news that has just came through from my job." Ej said. Macie looked sternly. Macie said," What is it

"Sammie Jo, get up. We have to go drop dad off," I hear mom say from my door. I roll out of bed
with my doll, my brother is already in the living room. Dad has a big duffle bag sitting by the couch.
He says good–bye to the dogs and then we all walk out to the car. My brother and I do not say word
the whole car ride. Mommy was crying and holding dad's hand on the way to Cherry Point. It took
us about twenty minutes to get on base and to my dad's work building. There was a lot of buff men
in their cammies, some of them are already on the bus. "What is going on?" I think to myself. Dad
gives mom a hug and kiss before he gave me and my brother a hug. I don't understand what is going
on but I don't let go off my daddy for what felt like forever. "Time to let go kiddo," Dad says before
making me pull away. He gives us one last look before walking into the big group of Marines. I
keep my eyes on him as long as possible before he gets on the bus and drives away. The next day is
the first day of second grade. I cannot wait to see my old classmates and meet my new teacher.
When we get done eating breakfast, we give mom a hug good–bye then head to the bus stop. It does

Indi Wingfield Gender Inequality Analysis
think social institutions have different influence and shape gender inequality depending on where
you live and where you're from. Such as in Africa they have high discrimination in social
institutions, due to how their government is run. There they believe that men have the power and
women are the "weak ones" who need to stay home and cook and care for their children. Even for a
women to give birth to a daughter in other countries is looked down upon they want to have a son so
that he can take over the father's farm and whatnot.
In other places like America is a very low discrimination because of how our government is and that
women are now able to get the same job as a man would. With living in different culture you have

Men in female occupations often have male supervisors, it's easier for them to have "gendered bond
with their supervisor" which leads to higher salary and promotions (Wingfield). But when it come to
"black males" it's completely different, black males often experience gendered racism. That limit
them to advance in the career they hope to accomplish in. Wingfield created a term , the glass barrier
to describe a situation that can prevent black men from riding the glass escalator (wingfield). In the
reading it also states that black men and women fight or compete for belonging in the workplace
because to some , "blackness equates to lower qualifications, standards, and competence"
(WIngfield).

Analysis Of Vicks Nyquil's Advertisements
Advertisements come in many different forms and varieties, but they all have one thing in common.
The thing they have in common is that they are trying to persuade you to do something. All
advertisements also have a certain motive that they are trying to achieve. The same can be said for
Vicks NyQuil's advertisement, "Dads Don't Take Sick Days". The strategies used in the
advertisement are, using certain words or phrases to show off their message, calling on your
emotions, and bringing forth an idea that is not the stereotypical way things have been done in the
past. Vicks NyQuil cold and flu is a medicine taken at night to help people become languorous and

This is what Vicks NyQuil has done. Since the beginning of time it has always been thought to be
the women's job to take care of the children, and the man's job to go out and work to provide for the
women and children. This advertisement brings a new thought into play. They switch the typical
roles of the man and woman. In this advertisement the man is a stay at home dad, it is his job to take
care of the children. The number of men becoming stay at home dads has grown substantially since
the 1980's. According to Pew Research Center, the number went from 1.1 million in 1989, to 2
million in 2012 (Livingston). It has almost doubled in size, and number of stay at home dads seems
to be inexorable. Many people believe this should not be happening because it is the woman's job to
take care of the children and the man's job to work. Vick's NyQuil uses this to their advantage.
When you throw this topic into your advertisements it creates an impetus, and that helps this
advertisement grow and becomes the best advertisement that a company can use. The whole point of
an advertisement is to get people to talk about it and go and buy their product. This is exactly what
happens when you watch this

In late September of 2010, was the year I learned a new word "Depression"! I was in 1st grade and

Gender Roles And Family Conflict
Gender roles vary from family to family, and for my family, they are a combination of many
different types. For my childhood, I was raised nontraditional in the sense of masculinity and
femininity. I had Barbies©, Tonka Trucks©, kitchen sets, and legos. I was never told that Barbies©
were only for girls and that Tonka Truck© were only for guys. From traditional to nontraditional
roles, I have been raised to be my own and unique individual. When I was younger, I was raised in a
very nontraditional, gender role home. My father and mother worked and my siblings and I, were
sent to daycare. After a few year of my mother and father working, my mom decided to stop
working to be a stay at home mom. A lot of this was due to work–family conflict, ... Show more

She would not ask my dad for help as she knew he would not be to please to have to stop his resting,
unless dinner was done. If was not common for my dad to discipline us, unless my mother was busy
handling another child. The most work my father would do, would be fixing the small things around
the house or working with the things that he really enjoyed. As it is said, "what one gives to a
relationship is experienced as a cost, and what one receives is experienced as a reward" (Balswick,
91). For my dad, his cost was working the hours that he did, and his reward was coming home and
sitting in his chair, not having to take on the responsibilities house work and child care. My mother
was huge in helping us, kids, with our homework and our needs. One thing different about my mom
was that she was typically the one who enforced the discipline. She was adamant in make sure we
knew what was tolerated and what was not. With the changes in gender roles, "the stakes are high,
as the outcome of these decisions [affect] everything from the stability of marriage to the equality
between men and women" (Cohen, 412). My parents are now divorced and part of that, I feel, is due
to the fact that my parents had to different mindsets as to the gender roles in our family. My dad felt
women should stay at home, cook clean, raise children and obey their husbands. Men were to work
and provide the money that would put the food on the table.

Being An American Informative Speech
INTRODUCTION
I would say that I grew up in the "American Dream". I was raised in a home with both parents, we
had everything we needed, I played sports and dreamed big about the future. I did all the things that
you are supposed to do growing up as an American. It wasn't until I joined the Army that I realized
there were so many other cultures and diversity that exist outside our own small existence. I was
suddenly thrust into a world where everyone was different from me and the people I had grown up
around and with. It was exciting to meet these people and gain new perspectives on our way of life
and how it affects other cultures and people groups. I learned in New York most people don't own a

Well, my parents went to work every day to provide for my brother and I and we had everything we
ever needed. We lived in a nice house, had a dog, and I never went without. I was able to dream
about the future and the possibilities that were out there for me to seize. With that being said the first
topic I would like to discuss with you is the issue of childrearing. If you look at the US over the last
50–100 years within the scope of childrearing you will find a common theme. The "normal" house
consists of a father who leaves every day to go to work and provide for the family and a mother who
stays home to take care of the children and the house. This has been a standard of living in the US
for a very long time. A recent article published by the Pew Research Center states: "While most
stay–at–home parents are mothers, fathers represent a growing share of all at–home parents – 16%
in 2012, up from 10% in 1989. Roughly a quarter of these stay–at–home fathers (23%) report that
they are home mainly because they cannot find a job. Nearly as many (21%) say the main reason
they are home is to care for their home or family. This represents a fourfold increase from 1989,
when only 5% of stay–at–home fathers said they were home primarily to care for family"
(Livingston 2014). This is interesting in many ways. Less than thirty years ago the number of stay at
home dads was drastically lower. One might say that the only reason that these dads are staying
home is because they cannot find work outside the home. The statistics disprove this theory. While it
is true that some have suffered from a shaky economy, many are home because they choose to be.
23 percent say that they are home due to the fact that they cannot find work. 21 percent are home by
their own choosing. This is hard to understand for most people. Globally it is accepted that the place

Analysis Of ' I Want A Wife '

wife who will take care of my physical needs. I want a wife who will keep my house clean. A wife
who will pick up after my children, a wife who will pick up after Me." by Judy Brady. The wife is a
large component to a functioning household, life, family and career for the man. It is true that all of
these desires are something a male can do as well, but doesn't due to the female gender role
expectation. The irony of the piece is that it was written by a female, whom was seeking a wife. As

Some think that it's a transitional period where he's either unemployed, or looking for a job. Some
think that the dad lacks motivation. Some assume the female takes dominance in the relationship.
Others, pass judgement about the father 'babysitting' that day. Whether it will be a modern day
family where the father works as the mother stays at home, or both of them will work, or the one
where the father stays home. Whatever the individual family chooses works best for them, the fact
remains that it is a choice and that both the husband and the wife are accepting the roles they have
chosen for themselves, regardless of their gender This generation, as it is more open minded and
unrestricted in terms of gender roles allows this trend to be acceptable and practical.
In contrast to my parent's generation and what I witness growing up, is striking to look back on. My
mother's role was an obviously stereotypical role. She made sure my dad's dry cleaning was done,
coffee was made, and he had what he needed to get to work. During the day she cleaned, did
laundry, household errands and finances. She started cooking by 4:30 pm to ensure dinner was
ready, and the table was set when my dad walked in at 5:30 pm. After dinner she cleaned the table
and dishes as my dad relaxed in front of the television. She got myself and brothers ready for bed
and put us to bed by herself. My dad's role was to simply be the bread winner and back my mother

The Importance Of Family Roles
Family roles, especially in traditional families, are an undying debate. Starting from childhood,
through various toys boys are taught to focus on playing with physically active toys, while girls are
taught on how to care for the family. This process of family roles can also be followed through early
history, where it was unusual for men to stay home and women to have any other occupation but the
household. Fortunately, through the feminist women`s movement, there was slow but progressive
progress for women`s rights. As, a result, women were starting to engage in public activities outside
of their homes. Due to this change, fathers are also beginning to comprise their roles as in support of
their wives decisions. Presently, it is becoming a common role for fathers to become stay at home
fathers. When groups of people hear the stay at home roles, mothers are primarily identified with
this particular role. Although stay at home fathers are increasing it is important to define this new
role in order to understand their importance in society. Stays at home fathers are in a couple family
with at least one child under the age of 16 at home, who did not have a job or business, was not
looking for work, was not attending school, and was not permanently unable to work. According to
Statistics Canada 2016, the proportion of fathers participating in household work rose from 51% in
1986 to 76% in 2015. 1 in 10 of families with dad as the stay–home parent in 2015 compared to 1 in

Some Stereotypical Jobs for Woman
A woman's only job is to stay at home, take care of her family, and pleasure her man. What is a
man's job? "Men, they do everything," quoted a fellow male classmate, "Men get the real money."
But it is the twenty–first century! Women are no longer expected to stay at home; they have taken
roles as teachers, doctors, C.E.O.s, part of the military, and the list goes on. As for men, it is now
acceptable for them to stay at home, take care of their families or even become nannies and nurses.
Will Meek, creator of website "Psychology of Men", defined gender role as a set of attitudes,
behaviors, and self–presentation methods ascribed to members of a certain biological sex. Gender

Make your personal appearance just as beautiful as possible" (Hill's Manual of Social and Business

obey her family and her husband's family and make them pleased. A man's purpose in life was also
to please his family by becoming someone important and bringing his family satisfaction and honor.
They were told what to become and didn't exactly have a choice; they had to obey by what their
families wanted. In some cases, this still stands today, but some families aren't as harsh and are a
little more lenient. He was also to provide nourishment and shelter for his wife and children. Society
back then would laugh and judge a man that obeys his wife and puts her before himself. They would
look down to a man that would rather become a nurse rather than a politician. They expected a man
to be in control. Families back then wanted to birth males so that they can expand the family name
and gain power. The males represented the family as whole, whereas the females represented their
husbands and their kids. Neither men nor women continued to be what society wanted them to be.
The shift in women's roles was a turning point in American culture in the late nineteenth century.
They started fighting for their equality and proving that they are worth more than a man's property.
Women began their fight in 1848 with the fight for women suffrage. Four

Character Analysis Of Andrew In Fly Away Home By Eve Bunting
Hopefull. That describes Andrew in Fly Away Home by Eve Bunting. Andrew lives in a airport. He
want the live a normal life but he can't because he's stuck in an airport without a home. Though in a
tough situation he still manages to keep a positive attitude, and he also is helpful. He is so young yet
he is still hopeful.
How would you react living in an airport since you were young, well Andrew manages to keep a
positive attitude. In the story Andrew said "My dad and I live in the airport, that's because we don't
have a home and the airport is better than the streets." This shows his attitude while living in the
airport it's tough but he does not want to show his dad that he truly wants to live in a house. Andrew
tries to stay positive through the situation he's going through. But he is a lot more positive than most
people would be in his predicament. Another example on how Andrew is positive is when he saw
the bird get stuck in the airport, "Don't stop trying!" he told it silently. "Don't! You can get out." This
part is significant to the story by showing how he is encouraging the bird to continue trying, that the
bird can get out. But this makes me wonder if maybe he was just talking to himself because he has
no one to help him stay positive. His dad surely does not encourage him his dad likes it at the airport
his dad does not understand what Andrew really wants, yet Andrew still fights and he still has hope.
The last example on how Andrew is positive is when he said "Then I remember the bird, It took
awhile but a door opened and when the bird left, when it flew free, I knew it was singing." It is
important to notice that before he said this he almost lost hope, he got mad at the people around him
because they had more than him. But he then tried to focus on something positive this shows that he
truly wants to have hope and be positive.
Many people face challenges all the time. But the character Andrew in fly away home lives in an
airport and helps his dad to get out. One example is he can't get noticed by other people, they stay
among the crowds change airlines and sleep sitting up. Even though Andrew is just a kid he doesn't
complain about all the walking and trying not to get noticed. This is helpful

Legalizing Lgbt Families : How The Law Shapes Parenthood
Legalizing LGBT Families: How The Law Shapes Parenthood is a book that portrays what it's like
to be an LGBT parent in the United States of America. This book showcases the livelihood of what
some LGBT citizens face when wanting to start a family. This book does an excellent job of
presenting LGBT parents and what they go through to fight for equal rights when it comes to raising
a family. This book includes over 100 in–depth interviews with LGBT citizens that demonstrate how
the law plays a significant role in decision–making about how the family will be organized and
parenting decisions. Most of the research that was done for this book was done to portray gay family
life and family diversity, or to contest or approve the stereotype.
The authors of this book are Amanda K. Baumle and D'Lane R. Compton. Amanda K. Baumle is an
Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Houston. She has written additional books that
showcase the lives of LGBT citizens. D'Lane R. Compton is also an Associate Professor of
Sociology at the University of New Orleans. Baumle and Compton are also co–authors of Same–
Sex Partners: The Demography of Sexual Orientation. Families of the past have historically relied
on the establishments of blood or law. Families are often stereotypically comprised of a childbearing
mother and hard–working father. This book does an exceptional job of breaking that stereotype and
showing that families can include LGBT citizens.

What Is The Similarities Between The Hunger Games And Fly...
What does strong really mean? We all have heard the story about how I got lost in the woods or that

Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins. Also, what if you lived in an airport with no place to call home.
That was Andrew's life in a short story called "Fly Away Home," by Eve Bunting. Now these are
situations where you have to stay strong during tough times. One person once said, "Tough times
don't last, tough people do." In The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins the main character is
Katniss Everdeen, a sixteen – year – old girl that lives in district 12, one of the 12 districts that
surrounds the capitol, Panem. The capitol is bitter and heartless place and keeps the districts in
check by forcing each and every district to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve
and eighteen to perform and fight in the annual Hunger Games, on live TV. When Katniss Everdeen

spend the day in. Even though the author's address the themes differently, The Hunger Games being

The Role Of Women In Barbie Doll, By Marge Piercy
People are oftentimes cast into roles or duties that some might believe are duties for certain groups
of people. For example, some people feel nursing is a career for women; and when they encounter a
male nurse, they might not be as receptive to him. In other words, they just don't feel comfortable
with their skills. Also, society has placed women in the role of stay–at–home moms and
housekeepers. Men who take on the duties of stay–at–home dads are sometimes frowned upon by
society and assumptions are made that the dad is not performing "manly" duties. However, there is
no one mold fit all society. People, especially women, should not be stereotyped in roles or duties
that society deemed "women only". The poems "Barbie Doll", "Girl", and "Daystar" reveals the
pain, shame, and loneliness that some women might experience because of society's beliefs.
Marge Piercy's poem "Barbie Doll" reveals society's perception and expectations of girls as soon as
they are born. She is to grow–up and adhere to normal girl behavior. Behavior that does not deviate
from restrictive roles and ideals. Piercy starts the poem off with gender recognition so that the reader
can understand the "girlchild" role in life as a woman. "In other words, she will fit into society's
mold; and the use of the word "presented" rather than given lets the reader know the importance of
the items" (2). After all, they are her training tools. "This girlchild was born as usual and presented
dolls that did pee–pee and miniature GE stoves and irons and wee lipsticks the color of cherry
candy" (1–4). Dolls that pee–pee are to train her for motherhood. A stove is to train her for preparing
meals; and an iron is for making sure her family is always polished. The lipstick is to remind her
that society expects her to be beautiful as well. Puberty is not a magical time. Piercy use of the word
"magic" and puberty together draws attention from society's perceived "Barbie Doll" to reality (5).
Puberty is a time that can create havoc, as the "girlchild" found out. "The author says that one of the
milestones of the girl's life happens in the "magic of puberty" (5). "Puberty is a time of awkward
transitions and not a time of magic, but expressing it in a

Double Duty for Working Parents
Working parents have to deal with some problems when it comes to working and parenting. They
have to both do their jobs in the workforce and care for their children at home in order to maintain
their families. In other words, they cannot fully commit themselves to just working or parenting.
Also, working parents have to find family time to spend with their children in order to strengthen
family relationships.
Traditionally, the mother stays home with her children while the father takes on the workforce and
generates the family income. However, with inflation and the rising cost of living, the mother has to
join the workforce so that both parents can generate sufficient income for the family. As of 2006,
three of four mothers with children under 18 years old are in the workforce. Instead of being stay–
home mothers, they become working mothers that work as employees away from home and as
parents at home.
A growing number of working mothers sacrifice their opportunities in the workforce for their
children's benefit. At the start of the 20th century, 50% of married mothers with newborn children
drop out of the workforce to support their children. Kimberly Palmer categorizes these women
under "the opt–out generation" because they favor "hearth and home over the office." Initially,
Palmer saw her mother as "a total career woman and also a total mom– and that she had managed to
do... everything." She did not realize that her mother had to ride a seesaw that tried to balance the

Pursuing A Career Or Job
Being able to pursue a career or job that you find passion in is a beautiful thing. We as individuals in
modern society have the ability to choose whatever we want to be in life. As a society, we are okay
with individuals going for careers as long as they "fall in line" with their gender. Usually, men go for
jobs where they are able to show their masculinity, strength, or love for automobiles. For example, if
a man pursues a job in the automobile, constructions, or sports then everything is okay with the
world. If a woman pursues a job that mostly women go for such as a nanny, teacher, or hairstylist
then that is okay because we want our women to have feminine or nurturing jobs. When a man or a
women choose to go for a job that does not pertain to their gender things can get pretty ugly. Gender
Discrimination means "discrimination based on a person 's gender or sex, which more often affects
girls and women. Because of gender discrimination, girls and women do not have the same
opportunities as boys and men for education, meaningful careers, & political influence"
(dictionary.com). Even though women may experience gender discrimination more than men, men
also fall victim to this sort of discrimination. Discrimination is the biggest problems people
experience in the workplace or when they are trying to get a job that does not fit for their gender.

Analysis Of Fly Away Home By Eve Bunting
Sometimes your life can be pretty challenging and you just think you have the worst luck ever. But
you need to learn to see the wondrous blessings that got you there. In the story, "Fly Away Home,"
by Eve Bunting, Andrew is a boy that lives his life jumping from airport to airport to live at for a
little while. In this story, the theme is that you should be grateful even in the worst times just like
Andrew did. One way he shows this is by being grateful for his dad. Also, he is doing this with no
home and not many belongings. In the story Andrew learns to be grateful in all times even when he
doesn't have many belongings with him. One way he does this is by cherishing the food he has. He
cherishes the doughnuts and milk he eats for breakfast and sometimes he even gets orange juice. He
should be grateful for this because he doesn't get alot of food and some is better than none. Also, he
has just blue shirts, pants, and jackets as his wardrobe. This shows how he can use what he has for
what he needs and doesn't complain. This is useful becaus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Break Of Day Analysis
In the novel " Break of Day" by Tony Palmer he depicts the themes of family, bravery and death.
The story is about Murray, a boy who lived during the war time and his story that follows the themes
of family, death and bravery. First talking about family, in addition talking about death and finally
talking about bravery.
Firstly how does the novel show the theme of family in the novel. An example from the novel is
when Ada wants to move to the city to find a job in the city. But she can't because she has to stay at
home and look after her family because her mum has died and her dad is always drunk, so if she
leaves things might go badly. Also, family is shown in the novel when Willand Murray don't talk
much anymore because after what happened ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Examples from the novel is when Murray goes to war. Bravery is shown in this because you would
have to be quite brave to go to war and fight for your own country, knowing that you might get shot.
Another example is when Murray stays with Sid at war. Murray stays with Sid at war while he is
injured after Will shot him. They started talking about the cricket match. Another example is when
Will shot paddy. Their dad was going to kill paddy but he handed the rifle to Murray and he was
meant to kill paddy, but he was being a coward so he handed the rifle to his brother so Will had to be
brave and shoot the don. Their dad quoted just before they shot paddy thats there was "No place on a
farm for a fool of a dog" (page 38). These examples and more demonstrate to us that in the novel
bravery was another big theme that Tony Palmer explored.
In conclusion Tony Palmer demonstrated that family, death and bravery are key themes in the novel
"Break of Day". This novel demonstrates bravery when Murray goes to war, when Murray stays
with Sid at war and when Will kills paddy. The novel shows family when Ada stays home with her
family, when Will and Murray don't talk much after the cricket match, And when the family go to
church. The novel shows death when Sid dies at war, when Murray's dad dies from the bushfire and
when Ada's mum dies and what impact it has on her. I think in this novel, Tony Palmer was
conveying a message of family, bravery

Mother Culture Is Good For Young Girls
1.Throughout our readings we have seen gender performed in many ways from Toddlers in Tiaras to
the discussion of Feminist Masculinity and the questions of motherhood and its prices. In Cinderella
Ate my Daughter, Peggy Orenstein lays out the many way we have taught our girl to be princesses
and argues whether or not the princess culture is good for young girls. Orenstein talks about how toy
companies are gendering not only their toys, but also their advertisements making everything glitter
pink or baby blue. She even talks about how babies weren't colored coded until the early twentieth
century. Orenstein lays it all starting from the beginning with girls and the color pink and taking it to
the end with female bodies and objectification.
The Double Standard article puts all our beliefs in check and makes us realize that women can and
do have sexual desires despite Orensteins remarks about how women should "look sexy, but not feel
sexual." Orenstein admire the little girls on Toddler in Tiara, but wonders whether or not teaching
these kids so early in age to be a sexual being (i.e.to be a women), will affect their self–image and
well being later on. Then there are the earlier articles stating that a mother should be a mother and
have no other desire to work or have fun, and the Bell Hooks book that says women should have the
choice to be a SAHM or the bread winer. Finally, We get to the Stay at Home Dads article that opens

The Effects Of Parental Gender Roles On Children With Stay...
Bridging the gap between previous studies, the current research explores the influence of parental
gender roles on children with stay at home dads. Acknowledging that this area of interest provided
inconsistent results, predictions are that experiences will vary. However, it is thought that children's
views of domestic and unpaid labour division will be more equal. Results of the study validated
previous findings, with a supposed explanation that implicit and explicit ideas have more impact
than accounted for. However, it is shown that parents of stay at home dads did have an egalitarian
take on gender roles in home and work.
The two biggest components of a child's cognitive development are the individual and their
environment. So it is little surprise that by the ages of 5 and 7 children already internalise and
express knowledge of gender roles displayed in society by way of unpaid (ie. household) and paid
labour division. Previous research has supplied evidence of this claim (Durkin & Nugent 1998,
Martin & Ruble, 1998), however it is found that after the age of 7, children's thoughts surrounding
gender roles become more fluid in interpretation. Furthermore, it is discovered that there is a
positive association between parental gender ideas and their children's attitudes towards gender roles
(Epstein & Ward, 2011, Fulcher, 2010). Fulcher (2010) found that when mothers held more
traditional (women more likely to have an 'at home' role) idea of their gender stereotype,

Most Famous Cosmetologists
Stereotypes are frequently used all around us. There are people who still think women can't be
doctors and men can't be stay at home dads. In today's society, stereotypes have been known to be
kicked to the side and proven untrue. For instance, only men can play sports, but Serena Williams is
one of the best tennis players out there. People also think men should not be cosmetologists,
however, John Frieda ranks number one in cosmetology. According to psychologists, the moment
the baby's gender is discovered, the stereotypes begin. If it's a girl, her nursery is immediately
decorated pink with little birds and butterflies stuck to the walls. The parents assume that their
daughter will be very girly so they fill her closet with frilly pink and purple dresses, tea sets, and
dolls, not realizing that they are teaching their daughter how to be the stereotypical woman, or a

For example, men are doctors, not nurses, men do "dirty jobs" such as construction, they are not

importantly, men are never stay at home dads. Society says that men should not be cosmetologists,
however, John Frieda is the most famous cosmetologist. Men are also not supposed to do housework
or be responsible for their kids, yet in 2009 an estimated 1.4 million fathers were stay at home dads
and when the number was checked again in 2014, an estimated 1.9 million fathers were stay at home
dads. Therefore, more and more men are taking responsibility in the household. Speaking of
responsibility at home, men are not meant to cook, sew, or do crafts, but there are more male chefs

Abstract
Traditionally families were defined by their faithfulness and conventional sex roles. The roles of
men and women were structured according to the traditional family roles. It was believed that the
father's role was to work in the office the whole day as the mother stays at home to attend to house
hold chores. For many years traditional marriage was the cornerstone of almost all societies, an
important institution for the passing on of values and taking care of children. That was then, the
present is experiencing changing roles, and fathers opt for staying at home as mothers pursue their
careers.

What involves staying at Home?
The decision for one to become a stay–at–home dad may encompass a lot than what meets the eye.
A father considering remaining at home may look at many factors including his earning power as
compared to that of the spouse. Work attire, commuting costs, daycare costs and other working
expenses. A slight repetitive flaw is rooted along with the idea of house husbands (McKay 4).
Regardless of whether the decision of men to become primary care givers is by choice or by force,
the fact is that these men take on the care giver role and perform it with a sense of commitment to
the well being and health of their families. However, the sad thing is that as they go about their
duties, they are met with quizzical looks and criticized for taking on the role of fathers who are
responsible and take good care of their children and keep their families home running smoothly.
This does not mean that all stay at home parents including mothers are ideal parents, it only suggests
that men also can be effective as women in taking care of their families despite the way the society
views what is normal and acceptable gender role performance. According to Frank, in his book, The
Involved Father, he argues that fathers are just doing what mothers have been doing all along and
that is domestic house work. The only difference is that in the present day,

which often wrings its hands over the lot of the housewife yet at the same time views SAHDs as
freeloaders who have left their working wives holding the bag" Sacks (pg278). This quote is simply
explains one of the biggest disadvantage men face as being a stay–at–home dad as they are
constantly ridicule for their choices. They are constantly being criticized by society and their
manhood is constantly being questioned for having their wives work and provide for the family
while they stay home and take care of the children. This may sound unmanly to most stereotyped
men. Another disappointing factor as it relates to being a stay–at–home parent is the feeling of
boredom and isolation. Moms and dads who weren't too happy about leaving the work place can feel
even more alienated. This is explained in a quote by Glen Sacks from the short story Stay–at–home–
dads, "In addition,

The Perfect Family Became A Broken Home

  • 1. The Perfect Family Became A Broken Home "She is not in there. She is gone, and she said she was not coming back," whimpered my dad. At that moment, that is all we ever knew. It was all anyone ever knew. The perfect family became a broken home in 2009, but not just any broken home. It became a home searching for a renewing, searching for a reconnection. With whom? Well, we did not quite know that answer at that point of our beautiful tragedy either. From the alcoholic father, to the sleepless mother, I grew up in a family that seemed perfect enough for me. My dad, my mom, my sister Charli, and I spent most weekends with my dad 's family, our friends, and my dad 's best friend Darrell. Other than the times my dad would lash out in anger while he was drunk, life was happy–go–lucky. Every day, every year was a routine. My dad would get off work; we would get out of school. Around five o 'clock my mom would be home, and we all would go do our usual get together, which most the time consisted of watching the men of the group drink, our mom 's bringing us home early, and then the men coming in late hours of the night. Over the next few years the situation got worse. My dad hardly came home without being drunk, and my mom spent hours on top of hours waiting up on him. Eventually, she got tired of it, I guess. In the summer of 2009, my Aunt Amy and grandmother had taken us on vacation traveling from Nashville, Tennessee to Natchez, Mississippi. While on the Natchez Trace, we did not have a worry in the world. We spent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Lilly Hoss: A Short Story My Story Growing up I loved being called Lilly Hoss, after school I would go over to the High school and walk around with my dad or I would sit in the office. It was awesome having my dad as a principle. When there was high school games we would stay after school and set stuff up for the event that night. I loved it so much. Then after the games my dad and his friends would all get together and drink and just have fun. Then it seemed normal every Friday night to go someone's house and while they had fun I would take care of all the kids. When I was in Fifth grade my sister and I came home from school. When we got home from school my dad was so happy to see us. Then he asked if we wanted to go outside and play for a little bit. He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My grandpa came and picked me up from practice, then picked Kara up from there practice before the game. Then he just said that dad was sick and mom went home to take care of him. But on the car ride home I knew something was going on. I asked if everything was okay. My grandpa said that dad was just sick. I knew that everything wasn't okay, something is happening because my mom wouldn't went home to take care of dad. When we walked in the door we knew something was wrong. My mom told us to sit down, and my dad to go outside. Then she told us that the police came to our house today and took dad's phone. That he has done something bad. One night he was drunk and sent a picture to a high school girl of his chest and told the girl to send one back. My mom told my sister that it is up to you but I don't think you should go back to the game tonight. She said that she wanted to stay here with us. It was a Friday so we didn't half to go back to school tomorrow. But it was all over TV, newspaper, social media. Then when I went back to school that Monday I was doing well, then my teacher asked if I was okay. I said yes at first then, I fell straight to the ground and said know. I asked why would I be okay, my life is over and everybody hates me. My teacher got me up and told me to sit on her lap. She said you are your own person, people love you. • 5. Should Men Stay At Home Dad Research Paper Is it okay for a man to be a stay at home dad and the woman to be the breadwinner? When it comes to this question whether a woman should let their men become a stay at home dad, people have different opinions about this topic. In modern society, men are viewed as the breadwinner, but then again it has always been that way. This tradition goes further back even in ancient times, male and females recognized their gender roles. The men would always leave to hunt for food and water, while the women would stay to care for the children but, as you know things change over time. We live in a time where females are no longer obligated to be a stay at home mom. Women have fought their way through this stereotype that women cannot do the same things as men. Therefore, why can't men be accepted to be stay at home dads? "SAHDs also have to contend with the societal perception that being a househusband is unmanly" (Sacks, 257). Many would see men as "unmanly" for being a stay at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fathers struggle to find acceptance within the role of a stay at home dad because men have always been viewed as the breadwinner. It makes men feel worthless for not being the one providing for their family financially. In my opinion, there really is no difference with being a stay at home mom or a stay at home dad. Even for stay at home moms, people will view the women as a freeloader, and lazy just as with stay at home dads because they choose to be at home to care for their children. Whether it is the mother or the father that decides to be the primary caregiver or the breadwinner both will still benefit from it. Parents will still be able to save money, and care for their children by being a stay at home parent. In addition, this teaches children that there are really no gender roles. Men can do whatever women are capable of doing just as women are able to do what men are capable of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Nontraditional Gender Roles Essay Many men and women today are choosing to take on nontraditional gender roles. People are embracing their individuality and living their lives in a way that contrasts what many have been raised to believe. Regardless, in our society, the traditional roles of men and women in regards to the family have always been clear, the man goes to work and is the financial provider for the family while the woman stays at home, watches over the children and monitors the cleanliness of the house. However men and women have realized in recent years that both gender are capable of their opposites duties regardless of what society believes. A plethora of the population have began to break the "rules" of gender responsibilities and stereotypes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If Brady had a "wife" she would take on the roles of the traditional father. She would go back to school, provide for the family if need be. She would not have to worry about the children's needs so Brady could focus on herself and her well being. Sacks essay contrasts Brady's essay by explaining the benefits of having the father stay at home to take care of the classic mother duties. "... men interfere with their wives' career aspirations by their refusal to become their children's primary caregivers forcing women to sidetrack their careers if they want children" (Sacks 265). Children who are raised with a stay at home dad are equally influenced by both parents. Although the father is taking on the traditional roles of the mother, no one can replace the care children receive from their mom. The mom is still the mom and the dad is still the dad. The children will do dad things with their dad and will still do mom things with their mom, even if the mom is not at home with the children all day. Men and women alike are capable of caring for their children with the same level of tenderness. A Majority of people believe stay at home fathers are lackadaisical, unable to find work or too feminine to bear the load of providing. Providing for the family can come in many different forms. Whether is it working a 9 to 5 job or staying home and watching over the children. Disadvantages of changing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. My Experience In My Life Life Imagine being in a family that always had so much going on, so many people running around going places, doing things, coming over, basically just always busy. Being the youngest it was never easy, always feeling like no one had time for me, not understand that I am not the only kid that has to be taken care of. It was the first day of kindergarten, my mother took me to the school and as we were walking in she told me, "Don't worry sweetheart, you are going to make so many friends and mommy will be here to pick you up after the day is over." We hadn't even made it into the classroom and I was already crying because I didn't want to leave my mom. I had never been away from my her for a whole day, how in the world did they expect me to do that when I was only about five years old. She told me it would be alright and then proceeded to go back home. I spent half of the day in the classroom crying, refusing to do anything but eventually gave in because I was hungry. When my mom picked me up from school that day, she asked me how the day was, and by that time I had forgotten about how scared I was to be without her. I was so excited for the next day. It was the end of the school year and I was loving it, I felt like I was finally getting the attention from the adults in my life that I had always been wanting. • 11. How Working Moms And Dads Growing up, I always dreamt of being a wonderful mother and wife. I want to be a woman that works hard and also takes cares of her responsibilities. Coming up is seemed like the right thing for a mom to be home taking care of the children while The Father is at work. As life goes on the roles have switched. What used to be traditional is no longer traditional. In a Modern day family, Either the mother works while dad is home, maybe there is no dad, or maybe both parents work. Today's American families are more likely than those of past decades to feature two full–time working parents. According to A new Pew Research Center report looks at how working moms and dads in two–parent households are balancing their jobs with their family ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some 54% of parents in households with two full–time working parents say the mother does more to manage the children's schedule and activities, while 39% say this task is shared equally and 6% say the father does more. And 47% say the mother takes on more when their children fall ill, equal to the share saying they split this duty equally; just 6% say the father does more of this. Although i disagree i believe splitting everything down the middle, that puts the stress on both parents instead of one. i disagree with her theory because fathers don 't like doing womanly things. I don 't see a father coming home cooking dinner after a long 12 hour shift at work. Nor can mom if she worked the same hours. If both parents work who has time to do anything when they do get home. Their too tired to interact with their family which will take a toll on the children. If both parents are taking on the roles how do they determine who 's spending more time with the children? How do they decide who picks up one week to the next ? About four–in–ten full–time working mothers say they spend too little time with their kids. By comparison, 18% of part–time working mothers and 11% of non– working mothers say the same. For their part, working fathers are significantly more likely than working mothers to say they spend too little time with their children – fully half of full–time working fathers say this is the case. • 19. First Day In School Essay "Sammie Jo, get up. We have to go drop dad off," I hear mom say from my door. I roll out of bed with my doll, my brother is already in the living room. Dad has a big duffle bag sitting by the couch. He says good–bye to the dogs and then we all walk out to the car. My brother and I do not say word the whole car ride. Mommy was crying and holding dad's hand on the way to Cherry Point. It took us about twenty minutes to get on base and to my dad's work building. There was a lot of buff men in their cammies, some of them are already on the bus. "What is going on?" I think to myself. Dad gives mom a hug and kiss before he gave me and my brother a hug. I don't understand what is going on but I don't let go off my daddy for what felt like forever. "Time to let go kiddo," Dad says before making me pull away. He gives us one last look before walking into the big group of Marines. I keep my eyes on him as long as possible before he gets on the bus and drives away. The next day is the first day of second grade. I cannot wait to see my old classmates and meet my new teacher. When we get done eating breakfast, we give mom a hug good–bye then head to the bus stop. It does not feel right, only saying bye to one parent before going to school but my brother, Blake, just tells me that I better get used to it. The school day goes on as usual. I stay to myself a lot. I don't need a ton of friends or to be the popular one; my only worry at the time is making good grades. All day I think to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Such as in Africa they have high discrimination in social institutions, due to how their government is run. There they believe that men have the power and women are the "weak ones" who need to stay home and cook and care for their children. Even for a women to give birth to a daughter in other countries is looked down upon they want to have a son so that he can take over the father's farm and whatnot. In other places like America is a very low discrimination because of how our government is and that women are now able to get the same job as a man would. Wingfield created a term , the glass barrier to describe a situation that can prevent black men from riding the glass escalator (wingfield). The thing they have in common is that they are trying to persuade you to do something. All advertisements also have a certain motive that they are trying to achieve. The same can be said for Vicks NyQuil's advertisement, "Dads Don't Take Sick Days". The strategies used in the advertisement are, using certain words or phrases to show off their message, calling on your emotions, and bringing forth an idea that is not the stereotypical way things have been done in the past. Since the beginning of time it has always been thought to be the women's job to take care of the children, and the man's job to go out and work to provide for the women and children. This advertisement brings a new thought into play. They switch the typical roles of the man and woman. In this advertisement the man is a stay at home dad, it is his job to take care of the children. The number of men becoming stay at home dads has grown substantially since the 1980's. According to Pew Research Center, the number went from 1.1 million in 1989, to 2 million in 2012 (Livingston). It has almost doubled in size, and number of stay at home dads seems to be inexorable. Many people believe this should not be happening because it is the woman's job to take care of the children and the man's job to work. Vick's NyQuil uses this to their advantage. When you throw this topic into your advertisements it creates an impetus, and that helps this advertisement grow and becomes the best advertisement that a company can use. The whole point of an advertisement is to get people to talk about it and go and buy their product. This is exactly what happens when you watch this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For my childhood, I was raised nontraditional in the sense of masculinity and femininity. I had Barbies©, Tonka Trucks©, kitchen sets, and legos. I was never told that Barbies© were only for girls and that Tonka Truck© were only for guys. From traditional to nontraditional roles, I have been raised to be my own and unique individual. When I was younger, I was raised in a very nontraditional, gender role home. My father and mother worked and my siblings and I, were sent to daycare. If was not common for my dad to discipline us, unless my mother was busy handling another child. The most work my father would do, would be fixing the small things around the house or working with the things that he really enjoyed. As it is said, "what one gives to a relationship is experienced as a cost, and what one receives is experienced as a reward" (Balswick, 91). For my dad, his cost was working the hours that he did, and his reward was coming home and sitting in his chair, not having to take on the responsibilities house work and child care. My mother was huge in helping us, kids, with our homework and our needs. One thing different about my mom was that she was typically the one who enforced the discipline. She was adamant in make sure we knew what was tolerated and what was not. With the changes in gender roles, "the stakes are high, as the outcome of these decisions [affect] everything from the stability of marriage to the equality between men and women" (Cohen, 412). My parents are now divorced and part of that, I feel, is due to the fact that my parents had to different mindsets as to the gender roles in our family. I was raised in a home with both parents, we had everything we needed, I played sports and dreamed big about the future. I did all the things that you are supposed to do growing up as an American. It wasn't until I joined the Army that I realized there were so many other cultures and diversity that exist outside our own small existence. I was suddenly thrust into a world where everyone was different from me and the people I had grown up around and with. Well, my parents went to work every day to provide for my brother and I and we had everything we ever needed. We lived in a nice house, had a dog, and I never went without. I was able to dream about the future and the possibilities that were out there for me to seize. With that being said the first topic I would like to discuss with you is the issue of childrearing. If you look at the US over the last 50–100 years within the scope of childrearing you will find a common theme. The "normal" house consists of a father who leaves every day to go to work and provide for the family and a mother who stays home to take care of the children and the house. This has been a standard of living in the US for a very long time. A recent article published by the Pew Research Center states: "While most stay–at–home parents are mothers, fathers represent a growing share of all at–home parents – 16% in 2012, up from 10% in 1989. Roughly a quarter of these stay–at–home fathers (23%) report that they are home mainly because they cannot find a job. Nearly as many (21%) say the main reason they are home is to care for their home or family. This represents a fourfold increase from 1989, when only 5% of stay–at–home fathers said they were home primarily to care for family" (Livingston 2014). This is interesting in many ways. Less than thirty years ago the number of stay at home dads was drastically lower. One might say that the only reason that these dads are staying home is because they cannot find work outside the home. The statistics disprove this theory. While it is true that some have suffered from a shaky economy, many are home because they choose to be. 23 percent say that they are home due to the fact that they cannot find work. 21 percent are home by their own choosing. The wife is a large component to a functioning household, life, family and career for the man. Whatever the individual family chooses works best for them, the fact remains that it is a choice and that both the husband and the wife are accepting the roles they have chosen for themselves, regardless of their gender This generation, as it is more open minded and unrestricted in terms of gender roles allows this trend to be acceptable and practical. In contrast to my parent's generation and what I witness growing up, is striking to look back on. My mother's role was an obviously stereotypical role. • 41. The Importance Of Family Roles Family roles, especially in traditional families, are an undying debate. Starting from childhood, through various toys boys are taught to focus on playing with physically active toys, while girls are taught on how to care for the family. This process of family roles can also be followed through early history, where it was unusual for men to stay home and women to have any other occupation but the household. Fortunately, through the feminist women`s movement, there was slow but progressive progress for women`s rights. As, a result, women were starting to engage in public activities outside of their homes. Due to this change, fathers are also beginning to comprise their roles as in support of their wives decisions. Presently, it is becoming a common role for fathers to become stay at home fathers. When groups of people hear the stay at home roles, mothers are primarily identified with this particular role. Although stay at home fathers are increasing it is important to define this new role in order to understand their importance in society. Stays at home fathers are in a couple family with at least one child under the age of 16 at home, who did not have a job or business, was not looking for work, was not attending school, and was not permanently unable to work. According to Statistics Canada 2016, the proportion of fathers participating in household work rose from 51% in 1986 to 76% in 2015. 1 in 10 of families with dad as the stay–home parent in 2015 compared to 1 in 70 of ... • 45. Character Analysis Of Andrew In Fly Away Home By Eve Bunting Hopefull. That describes Andrew in Fly Away Home by Eve Bunting. Andrew lives in a airport. He want the live a normal life but he can't because he's stuck in an airport without a home. Though in a tough situation he still manages to keep a positive attitude, and he also is helpful. He is so young yet he is still hopeful. How would you react living in an airport since you were young, well Andrew manages to keep a positive attitude. In the story Andrew said "My dad and I live in the airport, that's because we don't have a home and the airport is better than the streets." This shows his attitude while living in the airport it's tough but he does not want to show his dad that he truly wants to live in a house. Andrew tries to stay positive through the situation he's going through. But he is a lot more positive than most people would be in his predicament. Another example on how Andrew is positive is when he saw the bird get stuck in the airport, "Don't stop trying!" he told it silently. "Don't! You can get out." This part is significant to the story by showing how he is encouraging the bird to continue trying, that the bird can get out. But this makes me wonder if maybe he was just talking to himself because he has no one to help him stay positive. His dad surely does not encourage him his dad likes it at the airport his dad does not understand what Andrew really wants, yet Andrew still fights and he still has hope. The last example on how Andrew is positive is when he said "Then I remember the bird, It took awhile but a door opened and when the bird left, when it flew free, I knew it was singing." It is important to notice that before he said this he almost lost hope, he got mad at the people around him because they had more than him. But he then tried to focus on something positive this shows that he truly wants to have hope and be positive. Many people face challenges all the time. But the character Andrew in fly away home lives in an airport and helps his dad to get out. One example is he can't get noticed by other people, they stay among the crowds change airlines and sleep sitting up. Even though Andrew is just a kid he doesn't complain about all the walking and trying not to get noticed. This is helpful ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 55. The Role Of Women In Barbie Doll, By Marge Piercy People are oftentimes cast into roles or duties that some might believe are duties for certain groups of people. For example, some people feel nursing is a career for women; and when they encounter a male nurse, they might not be as receptive to him. In other words, they just don't feel comfortable with their skills. Also, society has placed women in the role of stay–at–home moms and housekeepers. Men who take on the duties of stay–at–home dads are sometimes frowned upon by society and assumptions are made that the dad is not performing "manly" duties. However, there is no one mold fit all society. People, especially women, should not be stereotyped in roles or duties that society deemed "women only". The poems "Barbie Doll", "Girl", and "Daystar" reveals the pain, shame, and loneliness that some women might experience because of society's beliefs. Marge Piercy's poem "Barbie Doll" reveals society's perception and expectations of girls as soon as they are born. She is to grow–up and adhere to normal girl behavior. Behavior that does not deviate from restrictive roles and ideals. Piercy starts the poem off with gender recognition so that the reader can understand the "girlchild" role in life as a woman. "In other words, she will fit into society's mold; and the use of the word "presented" rather than given lets the reader know the importance of the items" (2). After all, they are her training tools. "This girlchild was born as usual and presented dolls that did pee–pee and miniature GE stoves and irons and wee lipsticks the color of cherry candy" (1–4). Dolls that pee–pee are to train her for motherhood. A stove is to train her for preparing meals; and an iron is for making sure her family is always polished. The lipstick is to remind her that society expects her to be beautiful as well. Puberty is not a magical time. Piercy use of the word "magic" and puberty together draws attention from society's perceived "Barbie Doll" to reality (5). Puberty is a time that can create havoc, as the "girlchild" found out. "The author says that one of the milestones of the girl's life happens in the "magic of puberty" (5). "Puberty is a time of awkward transitions and not a time of magic, but expressing it in a ... John, and I both have good morals, and values, we communicate well, work hard, and know it's important to have good intentions. My brother is a Navy SEAL, and has been for the past four years, but my parents call me the smart one out of us. I know I'll be successful in life, just like my brother, if I don't give up. My boyfriend says life is full of opportunities, so I'm just waiting for mine to come. I was in fourth grade, it was a sunny afternoon, around Halloween time, and my mom picked me up from school on a Friday, normally Gran or Pop picked me up so I knew something was a little off, but I didn't mind because it was a treat that mom picked me up from ... I woke up on the twenty sixth of January feeling like a woman! Let me tell you, nobody can tell me nothing now, I'm grown. I thought I've already been through it all, and I have been through alot. I am smarter than I have ever been, and I have a good head on my shoulders, and I take the punches life throws at me, and I deal with them. I think I've been doing a pretty good job of it too. Considering, since my parents got divorced when I was probably eleven, every week I have moved back and forth from my mom 's house to my dad 's, house living out of a suitcase, and adjusting each week. Mom has always been super psycho controlling, during the summers while I was a preteen, she would find little things I did wrong like having too many dishes in my room, and turn them into big things, and have me on restriction the whole summer. • 59. Double Duty for Working Parents Working parents have to deal with some problems when it comes to working and parenting. They have to both do their jobs in the workforce and care for their children at home in order to maintain their families. In other words, they cannot fully commit themselves to just working or parenting. Also, working parents have to find family time to spend with their children in order to strengthen family relationships. Traditionally, the mother stays home with her children while the father takes on the workforce and generates the family income. However, with inflation and the rising cost of living, the mother has to join the workforce so that both parents can generate sufficient income for the family. As of 2006, three of four mothers with children under 18 years old are in the workforce. Instead of being stay– home mothers, they become working mothers that work as employees away from home and as parents at home. A growing number of working mothers sacrifice their opportunities in the workforce for their children's benefit. At the start of the 20th century, 50% of married mothers with newborn children drop out of the workforce to support their children. Kimberly Palmer categorizes these women under "the opt–out generation" because they favor "hearth and home over the office." Initially, Palmer saw her mother as "a total career woman and also a total mom– and that she had managed to do... everything." She did not realize that her mother had to ride a seesaw that tried to balance the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 61. Pursuing A Career Or Job Being able to pursue a career or job that you find passion in is a beautiful thing. We as individuals in modern society have the ability to choose whatever we want to be in life. As a society, we are okay with individuals going for careers as long as they "fall in line" with their gender. Usually, men go for jobs where they are able to show their masculinity, strength, or love for automobiles. For example, if a man pursues a job in the automobile, constructions, or sports then everything is okay with the world. If a woman pursues a job that mostly women go for such as a nanny, teacher, or hairstylist then that is okay because we want our women to have feminine or nurturing jobs. When a man or a women choose to go for a job that does not pertain to their gender things can get pretty ugly. Gender Discrimination means "discrimination based on a person 's gender or sex, which more often affects girls and women. Because of gender discrimination, girls and women do not have the same opportunities as boys and men for education, meaningful careers, & political influence" (dictionary.com). Even though women may experience gender discrimination more than men, men also fall victim to this sort of discrimination. Discrimination is the biggest problems people experience in the workplace or when they are trying to get a job that does not fit for their gender. There are several ways receiving gender discrimination that happen frequently in the day to day lives like giving a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 67. Mother Culture Is Good For Young Girls 1.Throughout our readings we have seen gender performed in many ways from Toddlers in Tiaras to the discussion of Feminist Masculinity and the questions of motherhood and its prices. In Cinderella Ate my Daughter, Peggy Orenstein lays out the many way we have taught our girl to be princesses and argues whether or not the princess culture is good for young girls. Orenstein talks about how toy companies are gendering not only their toys, but also their advertisements making everything glitter pink or baby blue. She even talks about how babies weren't colored coded until the early twentieth century. Orenstein lays it all starting from the beginning with girls and the color pink and taking it to the end with female bodies and objectification. The Double Standard article puts all our beliefs in check and makes us realize that women can and do have sexual desires despite Orensteins remarks about how women should "look sexy, but not feel sexual." Orenstein admire the little girls on Toddler in Tiara, but wonders whether or not teaching these kids so early in age to be a sexual being (i.e.to be a women), will affect their self–image and well being later on. Then there are the earlier articles stating that a mother should be a mother and have no other desire to work or have fun, and the Bell Hooks book that says women should have the choice to be a SAHM or the bread winer. Finally, We get to the Stay at Home Dads article that opens everyone eyes and shows us that not only women can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 69. The Effects Of Parental Gender Roles On Children With Stay... Bridging the gap between previous studies, the current research explores the influence of parental gender roles on children with stay at home dads. Acknowledging that this area of interest provided inconsistent results, predictions are that experiences will vary. However, it is thought that children's views of domestic and unpaid labour division will be more equal. Results of the study validated previous findings, with a supposed explanation that implicit and explicit ideas have more impact than accounted for. However, it is shown that parents of stay at home dads did have an egalitarian take on gender roles in home and work. The two biggest components of a child's cognitive development are the individual and their environment. So it is little surprise that by the ages of 5 and 7 children already internalise and express knowledge of gender roles displayed in society by way of unpaid (ie. household) and paid labour division. Previous research has supplied evidence of this claim (Durkin & Nugent 1998, Martin & Ruble, 1998), however it is found that after the age of 7, children's thoughts surrounding gender roles become more fluid in interpretation. Furthermore, it is discovered that there is a positive association between parental gender ideas and their children's attitudes towards gender roles (Epstein & Ward, 2011, Fulcher, 2010). Fulcher (2010) found that when mothers held more traditional (women more likely to have an 'at home' role) idea of their gender stereotype, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In today's society, stereotypes have been known to be kicked to the side and proven untrue. For instance, only men can play sports, but Serena Williams is one of the best tennis players out there. People also think men should not be cosmetologists, however, John Frieda ranks number one in cosmetology. According to psychologists, the moment the baby's gender is discovered, the stereotypes begin. If it's a girl, her nursery is immediately decorated pink with little birds and butterflies stuck to the walls. The parents assume that their daughter will be very girly so they fill her closet with frilly pink and purple dresses, tea sets, and dolls, not realizing that they are teaching their daughter how to be the stereotypical woman, or a "perfect ... Stay at Home Fathers Running Head: STAY AT HOME DADS Stay at Home Dads Name: Course: College: Tutor: Date: Abstract Traditionally families were defined by their faithfulness and conventional sex roles. The roles of men and women were structured according to the traditional family roles. It was believed that the father's role was to work in the office the whole day as the mother stays at home to attend to house hold chores. For many years traditional marriage was the cornerstone of almost all societies, an important institution for the passing on of values and taking care of children. That was then, the present is experiencing changing roles, and fathers opt for staying at home as mothers pursue their careers. Introduction The stereotype that men ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What involves staying at Home? The decision for one to become a stay–at–home dad may encompass a lot than what meets the eye. A father considering remaining at home may look at many factors including his earning power as compared to that of the spouse. Work attire, commuting costs, daycare costs and other working expenses. A slight repetitive flaw is rooted along with the idea of house husbands (McKay 4). Regardless of whether the decision of men to become primary care givers is by choice or by force, the fact is that these men take on the care giver role and perform it with a sense of commitment to the well being and health of their families. However, the sad thing is that as they go about their duties, they are met with quizzical looks and criticized for taking on the role of fathers who are responsible and take good care of their children and keep their families home running smoothly. This does not mean that all stay at home parents including mothers are ideal parents, it only suggests that men also can be effective as women in taking care of their families despite the way the society views what is normal and acceptable gender role performance. According to Frank, in his book, The Involved Father, he argues that fathers are just doing what mothers have been doing all along and that is domestic house work. The only difference is that in the present day,

Kaydian Roberts Professor Nazos English 101–53 03/29/13 The faces behind Stay at home dads The belief that men are not capable of taking care of a child is now being challenged. Fathers are now taking on a more active role in their child's life by allowing their wives to peruse her career goals while they stay at home with the children. Women are now left with the task of being the family's primary breadwinners. As both step outside their expected gender roles the challenge of gender stereotypes found in families have been questioned. This not only reduce a woman's ability to cut back on work schedule, but also prohibit her from changing careers if it simply does not suit her. There are disadvantages as it relates to men as well. "for one, they will have to endure the unconscious hypocrisy of a society which often wrings its hands over the lot of the housewife yet at the same time views SAHDs as freeloaders who have left their working wives holding the bag" Sacks (pg278). This quote is simply explains one of the biggest disadvantage men face as being a stay–at–home dad as they are constantly ridicule for their choices. They are constantly being criticized by society and their manhood is constantly being questioned for having their wives work and provide for the family while they stay home and take care of the children. This may sound unmanly to most stereotyped men. Another disappointing factor as it relates to being a stay–at–home parent is the feeling of boredom and isolation. Moms and dads who weren't too happy about leaving the work place can feel even more alienated. This is explained in a quote by Glen Sacks from the short story Stay–at–home– dads, "In addition, ...
