The team has been approached by a college to create a promotional video for their Creative Media course. The video will highlight elements of the course like practical work, editing, and teamwork. It will be fast-paced and exciting to engage 16-20 year old students. The video will feature interviews, footage of classrooms and work areas, and college logos once permission is received. Equipment will be hired and legal/ethical considerations like copyright and confidentiality will be addressed. Filming will occur in January/February with an April deadline.
1. Unit 4, 5, 62 – brief
Subject:
We, as a team, have been approached by the Creative Media department at Cheadle and
Marple Sixth Form College in order to create a digital video which will promote that specific
course and the college in general. The video will be used in an interactive application to back
up the information being shared; also it could be used on the college website. During the
video we need to express the various elements of working methods such as practical,
editing, working in teams, etc. We will do this in a fast paced, exciting manner which will
engage the audience and draw their full attention.
What is going to be filmed?
The video we are going to produce is going to be a promotional video about the Creative
Media course within the college.
The video will contain information about the course such as what the course is about, what
people do on the course and also previous students or other people’s opinions on the
course.
The video will be made by following people with a camera, or doing it in an interview kind of
way with a person behind the camera asking questions, such as “Do you enjoy this course?”
and the person being interviewed would then reply into the camera.
The video will also be filmed inside the college around the Creative Media/ICT area so that
people can see what the work area will be like.
Target Audience:
The target audience for this project is going to be students ages 16 years old and over, as it
is mainly people who have just left high school however it could be aimed at students as old
as 20 years old. Because of this quite young target audience we need to use quite a fast
paced, short and punchy technique in order to keep them engaged. We could use quite an
upbeat background track with fast cut scenes and bright colours which will add excitement to
the video as if the video was to come across boring it wouldn’t persuade the students to
apply at CAMSFC.
Assets:
The assets that are going to be collected to include in the digital video will be the college log
and images of the college campus from a sky view, pan view and medium shots. Some
images of students in class will also be collected but being a new promotional video I may
take new images to keep updated on the college.
Equipment:
The equipment that will be used to film the video to our standard will be hired from
http://www.lenslocker.co.uk/
The equipment needed will be a camera, camera accessories such as a tripod, camera grips
and battery packs. A computer will be needed for editing the time and putting the video
together. Lighting and sound equipment will be needed to keep the camera work up to a

2. professional standard. Sound also including individual microphones for any interviews taking
place and Original carts to carry around the equipment.
Budget:
The budget for this project will include a video camera, editing software and maybe some
other things/equipment which might be needed.
Legal and Ethical Consideration:
When producing this digital video we need to look into various different areas of legal and
ethical considerations. One of these would be to avoid any copyright violations, especially
with the images, videos, animations and sound effects that we may use as if they too have
copyright set on them then we would maybe have to ask the owner for permission in order to
us it, this is why we’re probably better off just sticking with our own material to save time.
Another area of this would be confidentiality as they will be supplying me with a lot of
information regarding the product; therefore we can’t share this information with anybody
else. This would be agreed in the contract between us and the business.
Other areas I need to look into are to make sure I don’t offend anyone in any way; this would
include areas such as libel, race, gender, religion or sexuality. As any offensive material
would make a bad reputation for our team as designers and the company we are working
for.
Copyright:
When graphics are created by someone, the right to those graphics is only to that creator, if
copied by someone else it is against the copy right law unless they have permission off the
creator or even the owner of that graphic. The graphics that we are going to be using are the
college logos. We are to get permission from the college to use these graphics such as the
logo and images of the campus that have been taken by the college from views that we may
not reach.
Deadlines:
We will be filming the project around January / February time. The deadline for this project is
roughly around April time.
