Edmodo is a social networking site designed for educational use. It allows teachers to create class pages for students to join, and facilitates the posting of assignments, quizzes, polls and discussions. Edmodo functions similarly to Facebook but focuses exclusively on educational content and collaboration between teachers and students. The author believes Edmodo is beneficial for both teachers seeking an organized way to distribute materials and engage students, as well as for students by providing an educational online community free of distractions.

Edmodo: Web 2.0 falls under three certain criteria, free, real-time, and must be collaborative.
Edmodo happens to fall under all of those criteria there for it is a Web 2.0. Edmodo is essentially
a Facebook for education. It has all of the features of Facebook, even its color scheme, without
all of the game requests and the annoying people that always try and message you. On Edmodo
you can post statues’ and you can create quizzes and tests and post webquests and polls and all
that sort of stuff. You can make a page as a teacher and your students much become a member of
you page (class) and then you can give them assignments like I have stated above. You can
create discussion boards and this is where we see a lot collaborating take place. I like Edmodo
because it is purely educational based. Sure Facebook could be used in the same way but it
would be much more distracting because that is more social media than anything and Edmodo
was made for education. In using Edmodo, teachers can upload pictures to their page of what is
going on in the classroom, they can post assignments up online for the class to do, and they can
every interact with their students in message boards and what not. Overall I think Edmodo is a
great site and is beneficial to not only the teacher in organization but to the kids as well.
