• Antimuscarinic
• Indications
Antisialogogue
Bronchial secretion reduction
Prevent cholinergic cardiac effects
Increase ventricular irritability assoc with acute MI and sinus bradycardia
Antidote for
Inadvertent overdose of cholinergic drugs
Cholinesterase poisoning such as organophosphorus insecticides

3. Contraindications
• Do NOT administer if patient has:
Severe ulcerative colitis or Toxic megacolon complicating ulcerative colitis
GI obstruction
Closed angle glaucoma
Obstructive uropathy
Myasthenia gravis

4. Tachycardia due to cardiac insufficiency
Thyrotoxicosis
Acute haemorrhage with unstable CV status
Fever
Prostate enlargement
Pregnancy induced hypertension

10. Conlusion
• Atropine Sulfate Injection is an antimuscurinic drug use for secretion
reduction.
• It is also an antidote for organophosphate poisoning. It is
contraindicated with patients with severe ulcerative colitis, GI
obstruction, glaucoma and pregnancy induced hypertension.
• The side effects are tachycardia, reduced secretion, urinary difficulty,
bronchial plug, photophobia, blurred vision and hot dry skin
• Use with caution to individuals who are over 40 years old, children
with down syndrome, lactating mothers and pregnant women
