2. Learning Preferences
REF=3, Sen=9, Vis=11, and Seq=5
My learning preferences have been ingrained in me for a while now, so
I am not surprised by the results of the survey. I am confident in my
style of learning and embrace it. I felt this semester has really
brought out and showcased my learning style through the different
ways I have tackled assignments in comparison to other students in
the class. I am a strong visual learner, and I felt the Powerpoints
and slides definitely helped me in the class. Years as a Bio major
has molded me into a sensing learner. I feel knowing about your
own learning styles really helps you in all classes or in situations
where you can learn something which is a daily event. With
knowledge of yourself you can play to your strengths and tailor the
experience to optimally absorb information.

3. Learning Pathway
Learning Warrior
The learning pathway I chose at the beginning of class was Learning Warrior. In the
beginning of the semester, I had a decent understanding of what multimedia was so, I
wanted to learn this new technology at a deeper level and incorporate them into my
classes. I feel I was successful in learning a lot about multimedia and incorporating
multimedia technology in the classroom for myself and fellow students.

4. Learning Activities
The Youtube video about Newton’s Law taught me how different media can be used to learn
at a broader understanding. The combination of pictures, animations, and sound was all
helpful in guiding me through the concepts of laws of motion.
Multimedia activities, specifically the Hip replacement activity was very interesting and
helped me gain a deeper understanding of how multimedia can be used as a learning tool.
The activity put you in the shoes of a surgeon performing hip replacement surgery

5. Exploration of Technologies for
Learning
In my Cell Bio class this semester, I was able to create my own podcast by using my iPod. In class I
would record the days lecture audio from the instructor. The audio would then be played back
after class for review. This was great for me as a sequential learner because I can keep replaying
the certain parts of the lecture over and over again so I don’t miss any steps.
This semester I was on Youtube a lot, looking up videos about cell biology to assist me in learning.
Intrinsically, Youtube provides many types of media for my consumption, from audo to pictures, to
animation, and even 3D graphics. This did wonders for me to picture how cells function. There
were videos taking me on a tour of the inner cell and what it may look like.
. As part of a class assignment, I played with a program called Foldit. This program allows
users to learn how to fold proteins in their most compact configuration.

6. Synthesizing Your Experience
• I think using Youtube gave me the most interest as a
multimedia learning tool. So much information is available on
Youtube, that there has to be an interest that applies to
anyone. It is much an appealing format for people who are
visual learners. I thought that Podcasts surprised me the most
as a learning tool. It seemed boring at first just listening to a
droning voice but if you can take the audio and combine it
with another type of media it really synergizes the experience.
I don’t feel there was any one technology I’ve explored that
can’t be used as a learning tool. I feel all of the technologies
have a visual component accommodated to my learning style.
I want to keep exploring programs such as Foldit as a learning
tool. I feel there is great potential in this technology to recruit
people to help assist in the challenges of synthesizing proteins
for use in the biotech industry.

7. What I'll Do Next
A social learning strategy I will continue to use in a job or outside of class is
using Podcasts. I feel this is a great tool, to be able to record any audio
that you may need in for future reference. A boss could be very busy, so
it’s annoying to keep asking him about how a project or job needs to be
done. Just have the audio be recorded for playback. Also when going to
meetings could be a thing of the past with Podcasts, large companies can
just stream their meetings over the internet for offices across the nation
to hear.
