Eat Drink Man Woman Analysis
When watching the movie, "Eat Drink Man Woman", I was able to learn a lot about the Chinese
culture and the food that they eat. Even though all the food that was prepared in the film was high
end cuisine, I was still able to get a glimpse of what it had to offer. When a lot of Americans think of
Chinese food, they tend to think strictly about American Chinese food, and that is not the case.
Many meals were prepared in the film that ranged from elegant soups, chicken, duck, and fish, to
fancy dumplings, and desserts. The film was able to show me a lot of what the food they eat looks
like, even if it was five star meals, and had a great storyline to back it up.
The story involves a widowed father, who is a master chef, and the three of his daughters.

Preventing Obesity among School Children through Healthier...
Preventing Obesity Among School Children through Healthier School Meals
Obesity and overweight are among the pressing health problems among children and adolescents in
the developed world.
Obesity refers to an excess amount of body fat whereas overweight can be measured by the BMI
index or height–weight ratio.
According to the WHO (2012), obesity and overweight are the fifth largest risk for global deaths.
Introduction
Obesity and overweight among children and adolescents has increased to more than a third of
children and adolescents (CDC, 2012).
Children and adolescents consume 700 to 1000 more calories per day than required (NCCOR,
2012).
School lunches mostly consist of fried and salty foods, which has prompted ex–military officers to
call for legislation on healthy school lunches (Spillius, 2010).
Problem Identification
Such children are likely to have higher risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes in later years
(CDC, 2012).
Obesity in children and adolescents can lead to greater susceptibility to the following in later years:
Asthma
High blood pressure
Bone and joint problems
Sleep apnea
Low self–esteem
Problem Identification
Children and adolescents often resort to unhealthy ways of controlling weight including: Crash diets
Binge eating, leading to bulimia nervosa Starvation Drugs, e.g. cocaine Laxatives
Hence, there is a need to develop healthy ways of controlling obesity in children.

Child Hunger In America Research Paper
When people ask me what I think the biggest problem in the America is today, my answer doesn't
really hit me until I least expect it to. I grew up loving family get togethers, celebrations and any
other event resulting in my family going all out on cooking and making sure there are seconds for
everyone there. No body left a family get together hungry. I remember sitting down many times and
not being able to finish all of the food I thought I could. The silent walk to the trash can trying to
have let no one see everything I wasted, I humbly slid past the crowd. It's not until that very moment
a family member says "You're not going to eat that?" "That is such a waste of food." Just then it

Pros And Cons Of Controlling School Lunches
The government controls the amount of calories in a school lunch to make sure kids get a fulfilling
lunch. Although schools cannot make them buy a healthy product they control what they put out for
the kids to eat. The healthy, hunger–free kids act in 2010 signed by former President Obama has
helped all it can in bringing down obesity. Parents can barely control what the kids eat also, they
can't be right behind their backs at all time. They could have sugar and calories for breakfast a half
healthy lunch and there parents wouldn't know this and give them more calories for dinner. You
aren't born knowing what is right from wrong this needs to be taught. Many people disagree with the
government controlling school lunches. 68% say they shouldn't be doing this. 32% say this is okay
and, should be happening (Debate pg. 1) Many parents want to be able to control what their child
eats and not the government but, the other 32% feel the government is making the right choice and,
they should be the only one controlling this. There are many different programs to help a kid make a
healthy choice, programs to help a parent understand what to feed their child. But today 17% of
school kids are obese, this is triple the rate it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kids would be more food crazed. What is put on the table is not only what the parents eat but the
child too. This can be seen anywhere you go. Parents don't by salads for the kid and chicken nuggets
for themselves so everyone is eating the same food. If kids don't learn to eat healthy at home, the
school has a chance to teach them. But when the kids go home, they only have unhealthy food to
eat. Kids develop a taste for sugar at a young age and want it when they are older. Some kids
develop a taste for caffeine and diet soda. When they try not to drink it, they get headaches and can't
focus. This happens for adults and it is a worse effect on

Travel Peruvians
Traveling and seeing other parts of the world can be very eye opening. As you travel to other
countries you can learn many things about the way they live and the different lifestyle they have
from your everyday life. I got the opportunity to travel to Peru and learn many new things about the
country that you wouldn't know if you didn't get to experience it first hand. One of the main things
that is part of someone's lifestyle is the food they eat. The meals that Peruvians eat throughout the
day create a healthier lifestyle than most Americans.
Peruvians always start their day off with a substantial meal. This meal is called desayuno, and in
english, breakfast. This meal is usually eaten around 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. The foods that are eaten for
breakfast in Peru are very similar to the ones we eat here in America. The foods most commonly
eaten are bread, oatmeal, eggs, and coffee. (Dunnell). The next meal of the day for Peruvians is their
largest meal, called almuerzo, or lunch. This meal is significantly different than how Americans eat
lunch. At around noon all business close and everyone goes home to eat lunch with their family.
This meal usually includes three courses so it can become very drawn out. After everyone's done
eating lunch business tend to open back up and everyone from the family goes back to school or
`work at around 3 p.m. The three courses eaten are an appetizer, the main meal, usually followed by

One of the main reasons I find this to be true is the adult obesity rates of Peru compared to America.
In Peru, 15.7% of adults are obese, whereas in America that number is multiplied by two and then
some, with 33% (source). Some of the reasoning behind this could be the types of foods that they
eat. Peruvians tend to eat a healthy breakfast whereas a typical American breakfast consists of
greasy foods like bacon or unhealthy pastries like donuts or

At What Point Does Convenience Become More Important Than...
At what point does convenience become more important than health? It seems like there's an easy
answer to that question. After all, health is always more important than saving a few minutes of
time, right? Most people would probably agree with that, but our actions don't always hold up to the
standards our words set.
How often do you pop a dish into the microwave rather than preparing a good meal?
Worse yet, how many times do you stop off at a fast food restaurant when you're in a rush rather
than eating a balanced meal at home? It's easy to do, especially today when everyone has an
overwhelmingly busy schedule.
More households than ever have two working adults, and sometimes even working teenagers.

Schools Should Make Meals For Religious Freedoms
The School lunchroom, is it a place to observe religious freedoms? I think schools should make
meals for religious restrictions available in the school cafeteria, because all students need to feel that
schools care about them, this will make them feel included without raising costs. This is being used
in other states and an example of that is California. The U.S. Department of Agriculture, Food, and
Nutrition Service have instructions that have been provided to everyone, but they leave it up to local
governments to do as they see fit. The document is more directed towards the "Jewish schools,
institutions, and sponsors participating in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP)" (Food and
Nutrition Service (FNS)) in California.

provided by the school, only one problem with that and that is income. Say you're a low income

restricts what you can eat depending on how it's made. "I feel like the free and reduced lunch is a

The School Food Service Is Necessary For Meals Served By...
Our entire lives, food remains one of the few essential things required for survival. Food is one thing
that everyone needs, and because of this, food becomes an important part of our economy. Quality
food is necessary for everyone, but some families cannot afford to provide their children with either
healthy lunches or, in some cases, a lunch at all. The National School Lunch Program was put into
place to provide all children with a healthy lunch, but the program may not be economically feasible
or healthfully effective. The school food service is a business. It is a not–for–profit business, yet
most school food services are required to break even, so the economic pressures are very similar to
those any business faces. The seemingly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These estimates imply a painful financial shortfall when one considers the growing public pressures
to provide better and more nutritious school lunches (Choices). The free lunches for low–income
children, summarized above, are just one fraction of this business. Within the National School
Lunch Program, the school food operation also serves reduced–price lunches for moderate–income
children and "paid" lunches for children from better–off families. The "paid" lunches are still
federally subsidized to some extent as long as the meal meets the requirements of the federal school
lunch program. Meanwhile, the school food service also sells a la carte items, trading off the loss of
federal subsidy against the advantages of being able to sell more desirable or profitable products that
would not qualify as a reimbursable meal. The National School Lunch Program in different school
districts must compete against different things. The program will compete against vending
machines, lunches brought from home, and nearby stores and restaurants for schools with an open–
campus policy. All the food and beverage lines that compete with federal meal programs are
grouped together as "competitive foods" (Agriculture and Applied Economics Association). In
addition to costs, the school food business must consider how meeting the health guidelines will
affect revenues. School cafeterias will not be able to stay in business, regardless of

Men vs Women: Eating Habits

Eating Habits: Men versus Women Getting a hot meal in college is very easy. Most college students
have a very short walk to their campus cafeteria. Entering the cafeteria, there is generally an array of
meals to choose from. Researchers have been studying the eating habits of college students for a
while. Although the studies are predominately due to the typical increase in weight of Americans

fascinating question has arisen to add to the ponderous question of how men and women differ. The

There was more of a presence of meritocracy a number of years ago, and most schools have made
decisions to end streaming classes. Purely from a social inequity point of view this is a smart move.
We have already established that working class students fare less well so by streaming they would
more than likely be in the one class. Unfortunately Smyth et al (2004) states that streaming of
students is more prevalent in schools in disadvantaged areas which is the case in our schools. As
illustrated in Hart et al (2007) 'Government–sponsored initiatives to raise standards and improve
practice in schools have placed particular emphasis upon the need to differentiate by 'ability '. DEIS
schools have a stem test for students entering the schools at the beginning. It is clearly evident that
the brightest students are put in a higher level of class with a breakdown of other students
afterwards. The schools reproduce such inequality that even those students that the test do not
highlight are much after a later period. This myself I have witness, where teachers are asked for the

Even if food cannot always be donated, it can still be recycled instead of just thrown in the dump.
According to the USDA, "Americans waste enough food every day to fill a 90,000 seat football
stadium" (USDA). If students donated and recycled waste it would decrease that number and it
would reduce the amount of waste in landfills because they would be donating and recycling the
food to food banks. The food that the schools donate would go to the needy. Also, according to
David Seifman, writer for the New York Post, New York spends way too much money on food
waste saying they spend "more than three hundred million dollars to ship ten thousand, 800 tons of
trash every day to landfills" (Seifman). If every school donated and recycled food rather than throw
it away, cities like New York wouldn't have to spend as much money and they would also save the
amount of trash going into landfills because if people donate and recycle, food isn't going into the
trash. Lastly, Too much food is wasted. According to CNN, "40% of food goes to waste" (Beasley).
If schools would donate and recycle, that would decrease the amount of food that goes to waste
because the schools wouldn't be throwing food away and it would decrease the amount of food

Hunger And Hunger Of Hunger
You ask me what is hunger? Listen to me. Here I am so famished that you could see every little
detail of my bones. I don't even have the energy to talk, or even walk because my last meal was four
days ago. Hear me out. This is not a joke, nor a pleasant position to be in. There are approximately
920 million people in the world who yearn for a meal each day, and every three point six seconds
someone dies from hunger. Yet, when you think of hunger, you say to yourself, " Oh yes, I've been
hungry before, I've missed breakfast, then my stomach starts to growl, big deal." No, you have it

substance from that bag. The dumpster was my breakfast, lunch, and dinner everyday. It was the
reason why I'm still alive.
Hunger is stealing from a supermarket. This was the vile side of hunger, but it was either the family

Intervention for Food Selectivity in a Specialized School Setting: Teacher Implemented Prompting,
Reinforcement, and Demand Fading for an Adolescent Student with Autism
Food Selectivity is a prevalent characteristic in children with intellectual and developmental
Disorders. In the article, "Intervention for Food Selectivity in a Specialized School Setting ... For an
Adolescent Student with Autism" it discusses the commonalities of peculiar eating amongst
individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and the reasoning's behind their food selectivity. It is
said that texture, taste, and familiarity of foods may be explanations why a child is finicky about
what they consume. (Jonson, Handen, Mayer–Costa, & Sacco, 2008; Ledford & Gast, 2006 Luiselli,
2006).
The importance of the research conducted in this study is to strengthen appropriate eating and
diminish mealtime behaviours in food–selectivity due to the dangerous affects it places on these
individuals. There lays a problematic concern with these types of eating habits since a limited diet
can cause malnutrition, dehydration, and other health risks. (Emond, Emmett, Steer, & Golding,
2010) Along with physical factors from a lack of nutrients, children with food selectivity often
display behavioural outbursts when asked or prompted to eat foods they're not interested in. Within
the study, they used an ABA approach to change the way the individual looked at foods to increase
better eating habits. Unlike most studies where the

Frequent Family Dinners Analysis
In the article " Teens Get Extra Helping of Emotional Welfare at Frequent Family Dinners", Sharon
Jayson explores the benefits of family dinners on the youth. Sharon Jayson reviews different studies
done on family dinners and concludes that the more meals a child eats with their family, the better
the child's mental state. Although having family dinners has its benefits, many families do not eat
together on a regular basis. In today's society, family dinners are becoming less frequent due to
various reasons such as a busy schedule, the convenience of not cooking, and the distractions of
modern day technology.
There are several reasons why a family may not eat together as a family but one major reason is
because of how busy a family is. Each family member has so much going on in their life that it is
hard to find time for everyone in the family to eat together. For example, a parent could work night
shift, leaving them to eat at different hours than the rest of the family. The children of the family are

Some parents simply do not have the time to cook for their families, so they look for an alternative
option. Many people will get fast food because of how convenient it is. Fast food restaurants are
everywhere and since they are so easily accessible, parents will often chose that over cooking.
Another easy option that parents turn to is microwaveable meals. Microwaveable foods have
become so popular because of how quick and simple they are. Since these meals are so simple,
children are able to make food for themselves at a younger age. The children no longer have to rely
on their parents to cook for them and the children are able to make food whenever they are hungry.

Dietary Changes To School Meals Essay
The Public Needs to Know: Dietary Changes to School Meals
Children today are in much greater danger of health issues related to poor nutrition and diet than
seen in previous generations. As children continue to face the dangers of issues like obesity, more
and more programs are aiming to address the issue with effectiveness. It is clear that something
needs to be done in regards to helping improve the nutritional intake of school in the state and across
the country. Changes to breakfast and lunch menus within districts are directed at improving health
and nutritional intake of school children across the state.
More and more concern regarding the nature of school meals and how that plays into the dangerous
environment America's children are being exposed to. This concern has prompted many legislative
actions that have increased the standards and requirements school meals must met in districts across
the country (USDA Office of Communications, 2012). Yet, following these new restrictions can
prove quite a costly endeavor for many schools here in the United States. School meal programs
already cost around $11 billion annually, and so changes that would require more expensive and
fresh foods would strain an already fragile budget for school operations (Nixon, 2012). Government
reports show that the funding for such changes will increase dramatically. The New York Times
reported an extra 3.2 billion that will be needed by schools across the country to fulfill the new

Essay About Food
Progress Starts with Food My body jolted with shock as I awoke from one of my several
consecutive nightmares. Slowly, I opened my eyes hesitantly as my pupils adjusted to the dark room
in search of light. Pushing my elbows against the surface of the rough carpet, I propped myself
upright looking around frantically for any signs of danger. Once I realized that danger was not
present, I dismissed my fear of being at risk for anything harmful. I then tightly pulled my knees to
my chest, lowered my head into my lap, and clenched my fists. Soon after, tears began to overflow
my sealed shut eyes as they escaped, racing down my pale cheeks onto my uncontrollable shaky
legs. Time passed, and I was still hysterical until I was interrupted by my ... Show more content on

This was a pivotal point in my life where I proved to myself that I can make independent food
choices by reconstructing my eating habits and weighing my values in life. Much of my life was
dedicated to sports in which I competitively participated in soccer, basketball, and lacrosse. I was
not just an athlete, but a student athlete. I had to maintain a healthy food regimen to ensure that my
body could perform to its fullest potential; whether it was on tests or playing in my game. Every day
I ate a solid three meals with snacks in between school and my games. Calorie counting wasn't my
main concern, it was more of which foods I consumed, such as fruits, vegetables, and protein with
as few carbs as possible. A popular food menu for me consisted of, apples, grapes, bananas,
asparagus, green beans, spinach, chicken, etc. Although it was hard to keep up with eating on a
schedule, I knew for my body to work efficiently it was essential to consume food. By working out
nonstop and eating healthy, I was in the best shape I've ever been in my life. I've never felt more
strong, powerful, focused, and sane when I was accustomed to this agenda. This was all a repetitive
process up until several blows to the head in sports caused trauma to my brain. Concussions became
a regular topic of discussion for me. I have had three documented concussions with scattered
undisclosed blows to the head. The last concussion I received turned my whole life around

Free School Meals Act 1906 Analysis
One piece of legislation that was introduced was the education (provision of meals) act in 1906, this
act gave free school meals to children, they rose from 9 million to 14 million. It gave the local
authority a grant to fund 50% of the cost of meals and there was a public funded welfare service set
up to replace charity funding. Although the School Meals Act, passed in 1906, gave local councils
power to provide free school meals, if they wanted to. Money to provide these meals however had to
be raised from local tax payers and so therefore was not universally adopted. By 1914 less than half
of local authorities had no school meals (Intriguing History,2014) (BBC,2014). This Act did help
reduce poverty because allowing a child one set meal a day meant that they would not starve if there
was no food at home. Giving a child food at school would also help them learn more effectively
which would give them a better chance at getting a good job. On the other hand the free school
meals act was not compulsory for all schools which meant that a lot of children were still living in
poverty without food. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There was also another part to this act which was free medical treatment but there was a drawback
with this part of the act so it was not compulsory and widely ignored by the education authorities.
Free medical treatment was only made compulsory in 1912 when grants were provided and clinics
set up. This act did help reduce poverty because Inspections began in 1907 and there was provision
for treatment. People started to realise that they should care for the health and wellbeing of children
which overall reduced their poverty. However few authorities provided free medical treatment so
there was no point in inspections without

Moneysmart Family And Poverty
Three billion people around the world are living in poverty and the MoneySmart family could join

MoneySmart family, I came up with ways the family can adjust spending, how their kids could help,
and how families everywhere can prepare better for similar situations. The MoneySmart family
could adjust spending by fitting their meals around sales of grocery stores. For example, Valli
Produce, a local grocery store of Rockford, mails out a catalog full of low price food with coupons
and my MoneySmart family could save a minimum of thirty dollars a week using this technique.

Plan For Start Jo 's Training
Fitness Client: Jo
Rationale: Beginning this new fitness regime, I decided to start Jo's training off with a highly
effective run/walk workout on every other day of the week, with morning yoga to increase
flexibility and strength. I believe that by combining a run for a specified amount of time (gradually
increasing over the months) with short rests in between, Jo will be able to increase her stamina and
work toward her goal of a 10k. In addition, I have incorporated moderate intensity workouts every
Tuesday of the month targeting specific areas of the body and increasing their overall strength. The
number/duration of each exercise is dependent on the abilities of Jo herself, but should increase with
each workout so she may achieve her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As for the run/walk workouts, they will begin to decrease in duration at approximately the second
week of August. The length of the strength training workouts is going to remain the same (45
minutes) in order for Jo to continue increasing the overall strength of her muscles. In addition, with
the tapering of the runs, Jo can begin preparing to return to school (as she is a teacher) after the
summer holidays, however, with this additional time Jo should ensure that a balance is maintained
between her career and her activity goals.
Rationale: Jo's new fitness regime requires a healthy nutrition plan to go along with it. I have
designed each day of the week to begin with a variation of the same type of breakfast in order to
keep it interesting, nutritious and offer Jo new experiences. Lunch and dinner both incorporate
ingredients that result with approximately a 1:3 ratio between grams of carbohydrates and protein,
which is supposed to be excellent for replenishing energy after an intensive workout. Many of the
meals include high–glycemic index foods like rice, potatoes, and pasta because their carbohydrates
(primarily in the form of glucose) are the easiest for the body to break down and use to refuel
muscles. By pairing these side dishes with a lean meat like chicken or turkey, or even seafood, Jo's
post–workout meals will meet all of her needs. Finally, I have also

Analyzing The Essay 'The Magic Of The Family Meal'
The essay, "The Magic of the Family Meal" by Nancy Gibbs, was first published June 12 2006. In
the essay she describes why mealtime together is important. Gibbs Also goes on to tell why and its
effect on the participants. Having mealtime together is important to our social and cultural well–
being. For parents today it is important to have at least one meal together a day, having the children
help prepare the meal, and making conversation at the dinner table. Having at least one meal a day
together can have a large impact. Such as with manners, not only at the table but social cues. As how
to share or pass food with others. When having meals together there is also a better chance of
healthier foods, rather than unhealthier food choices. "Studies show that the more often families eat
together, the less likely kids are to smoke, drink, do drugs, get depressed, develop eating disorders,
and consider suicide and the more likely they are to do well in school, delay having sex, eat their
vegetables, learn big words, and know which fork to use"(Gibbs 212). Next would be having the
children help prepare the meal. Helping prepare and cook the meal teaches children a valuable skill
for life. When helping prepare the food it can also get them to show and ... Show more content on

Having conversations helps children with social cues and speaking. Such as hearing adult speak
with larger words and in a more sophisticated way. Helps promote the children to speak more
thought out and better. It also promotes better confidence and feeling as if the parents are proud of
them. "And on those evenings when the mood is right and the family lingers, caught up in an idea or
an argument explored in a shared safe place where no one is stupid or shy or ashamed, you get a
glimpse of the power of this habit and why social scientists say such communion acts as a kind of

A second study executed at another university in Oregon and found that 59 percent of students
reported having difficulty purchasing enough healthy food with the little money that they have. This
percentage is about four times that of the United States households that reported 15 percent of
Americans are lacking enough food and are in fear of going hungry. Having average to poor health,
a lower grade point average, and low income were among the factors associated with food concerns
among the college students and the students who reported having a job stated that their job did not

maintain a balanced diet. Students who reported food concerns worked an average of 18 hours a

Open Communication Cyberbullying In Children
"Tell me what you eat, and I'll tell you who you are," wrote renowned gastronome Jean Anthelme
Brillat–Savarin in 1825. Sitting down to eat with others, has always had significant meaning over
the course of history, be it the Passover meal or The Last Supper. In today's fast paced, chaotic
times, sitting down with your kids to eat a meal, could be the single most important step a family
can, and should, take in regards to food and overall familial well–being. It has been studied as one
of the most important factors in relation to lowering adolescent risk– factors and obesity in children.
Family meal time has also been shown to decrease negative effects in children, due to being bullied

Children and adolescents who fall victim, are at an increased risk for mental or substance abuse
issues. One study looked to find a protective factor in family meals, to help minimize some of the
results that come from being cyberbullied. After an extensive study done on 18,834 students, ages
12 to 18, from 49 schools in a Midwestern state, the authors concluded the following. "About one–
fifth (18.6%) of the sample had experienced cyberbullying during the past year. The more frequent
this was, the greater the chance the teen would have a mental health or substance use problem,
across all 11 measures. The link between cyberbullying victimization and mental health or substance
use problems was weaker among teens who had more family dinners" (Knopf 5). Although the
research could not say that family meals alone were enough, it was proven to be an extremely
important factor in establishing adolescent mental health, and in reducing the impact of stressful
situations.
An adolescents decreased risk of smoking, drinking and doing drugs, would be yet one more reason
that eating as a family should be given precedent. Many studies have observed that this decreased
risk is true, regardless of the teenager's gender, family structure or socioeconomic level. Feelings of
security, love and comfort, reflected in the effort and consistency of family meals, allows a family to
communicate more openly. Teens with this particular advantage, are found to be more content, have
good relationships with their peers, do better in school, and have healthier long term eating

Meals Tax For Public Schools
Meals Tax On November 8th, voters will be asked to vote for or against the Meals Tax. This meals
tax would be imposed on prepared foods and restaurant meals. The Meals Tax was proposed by
Fairfax County. The reason for this Meals Tax is to fund public schools and county services. The
seventy percent will go to Fairfax County Public Schools. Also, the thirty percent will go towards
capital improvements, county services and property tax relief. It would impose a four percent tax on
top of the existing six percent sales tax. The Meals Tax will support Fairfax County children and
help protect the quality of life for all. The Meals Tax would predictably harm more of low middle
class families. In these tough economic times, this tax will be no help and it will hurt people. There
are many questions to the Meals Tax. What is Meals Tax? The definition of this tax is taxes incurred
in addition to a state's sales tax on the purchase of prepared foods that are eaten in restaurant or to–
go. The media said that Meals Tax would be up to four percent. The actual range is various from
between 0.5 percent to as high as 5.5 percent. There are other cities that charge a tax. Cities like
Miami, Virginia Beach, Dever, Milwaukee, Boston, and Washington D.C. Chicago has high
combined tax of ten point seventy–five percent. There are lot of concerns to this issue. Why is the
government imposing this tax and proposing to the community? Why are people against this tax?

Freezer Meal Research Paper
Title: Freezer Meals
Introduction
Its 3'oclock, the kids will be home from school soon, you have to take one to basketball, the other to
soccer practice, and feed your spouse when they arrive home. You don't want to spend hours
cooking a healthy meal but what choice do you have? The children need to eat something healthy
and your spouse will want a hot meal on the table when they arrive home after working a grueling 8
hour shift. You look in the pantry, everything located there is not very healthy or will take hours to
prepare and make. You could run down to the local hamburger fast food place, but the food they
serve is not very good, and definitely not healthy, also after a while it becomes very expensive if you
were to do this every time you had a day like this. Then something reminds you, there are bread
buns in the bread box, then there is that pulled pork BBQ that you made way to much of two months
ago sitting in a baggie in the freezer. There is your dinner! The family will be happy and you can
throw it on the stove and cook a quick meal.

The Spanish Cuisine Of Spain
The culture of Spain is very diverse and lively. It is filled with beautiful colors like the dresses of the
Flamenco dancers, or the decorations in the late–night fiestas. Last year my school had a foreign
exchange student from a little island off the coast of Spain. Her name was María. She told us all
about the crystal blue water that surrounded her island, and the fiestas her and her friends and family
would go to until 3 A.M. Spain is a beautiful country, and this paper will explain its most important
habits, customs, and differences to American culture. The Spanish cuisine is a mystery in itself. Not

The flamenco was the passionate dance of romance. Finally, the Paso Doble was a simple one step
dance. Most of the literature we talked about was poetry, prose, or drama. For one of our units my
teacher made us write out our own fairytale, and we had to read it to the class. One of my favorite
websites I found for information was commisceo–global, and they explained the cultural aspects of
Spain. 94% of Spaniards are Roman Catholic, and usually in many small towns, the biggest,
grandest building in the town is the church. Also, most holidays were created for religious reasons,
like Three King's Day (January 6) or Holy Week (late March–early April). When María was in
Minnesota she did not go to church on Sundays, but she still participated in our local youth group.
The next cultural aspect this website focused on was family and gender. It explained that most
families consisted of immediate and extended, which helps with financial stability and raising
children. Children were also one of the topics focused on. They say that children were the prized
possessions of the families. They usually started school around 6 and went to school until they were
16. After school, they could either join the workforce, further their educations in high school, or do
vocational training. Adult men and women had their own roles while their children were in school.
Although they shared the responsibilities of parenting and house work, women were usually in

Civility Of Eating At Palm Beach State College
Antonia Gonzalez
Food is a universal need and pleasure. Civility stresses regulation, control, decency, courtesy and
consideration. It is the manners of eating, more than what gets eaten, which expresses the humanity
of the eaters. Depending on their culture, the behavior taught to be appropriate may be different than
others. Allow me to demonstrate civility regarding food, what it says about me and how it reflects
on Palm Beach State College.
I will start by stating that I would think of the place of the meal or the setting; where I would eat.
Like in most parts of the world and with most people, I would rather sit and enjoy my food at a
table. It can be at home, a workplace, school, or at any restaurant, indoor or outdoor. This is one of

You have a set time of when and how long you will have to eat. At Palm Beach State College or any
other colleges you are more independent and may end up having to eat alone. You would have to
work around your class schedules for each day. You and your friends may have different schedules
or you may have a full one that may only allow about 15 minutes between classes to eat something.
Again, it takes away the pleasure of the food. Also, you have to consider the way or how you eat,
what you eat, and the manners that you display while eating or dining with others. It is very
important to learn and grow into these things. I was taught to make others comfortable. Just have
some manners and show consideration for the comfort and pleasure of others that are eating or
dining with you. There have been some times in my life, maybe in many other people's lives as well,
when I was forced to dine with some people that either had dirty hands, were rude, were sick,
sniffing, reaching and coughing over or near the food, chewing loudly or smacking, were eating
with their mouths open, and other unpleasant things. Those type of

The Dining Halls At Virginia State University
Food plays an important role in our lives, especially in college. Food affects people financially,
nutritionally, and educationally. The dining halls at Virginia State University are a major source of
meals and food for students. Needless to say, it is important that those students can eat at these
dining halls. The problem with this is that the cost of campus dining is way too expensive for the
limited options we have.
At Virginia State University, students are paying $8,226 per year for their education, while they
spend $4,738 for the campus dining. That is basically half of the tuition! While most would hope if
they were paying almost the equivalent amount of their tuition on their meal plan, they would be
receiving a quality dining plan; however at Virginia State, that is not the case. There are limited
choices at VSU; usually only two places are open. If you choose not to eat at Jones dining hall or
Foster, you are forced to purchase meals off campus from Friday to Sunday night. This can become
quite expensive for an unemployed college student on a budget. It can be worse for those students
who do not have transportation. Another issue is the fact that many of the dining facilities are
located on the main campus, this makes it harder for students who live on the opposite side to have
to walk across campus for food. This limits our choices, even more, considering those who decline
to take the long walk for café food that isn't even satisfying.

Essay The Iron Triangle and Heclo's Policy of Issue Networks
Heclo's policy of issue networks is a new way of dealing with the connection between politics and
its administration. Previously, the Iron Triangle was the way that the connection was dealt with. The
Iron Triangle concept described the major players as congress, career bureaucrats and large interest
groups. It was said that the groups had a give and take kind of relationship and eventually led to a
reasonably easy way to create policy while somewhat satisfying each of the groups. Basically, the
Congress passes laws, Bureaucrats implement the laws and the interest groups support the congress.
However Heclo describes the new way of doing business in Washington. Heclo does not say the Iron
Triangle theory is wrong he just says that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Heclo describes these groups as varied and operating on many different levels. We may have a small
group that is very vocal and show up at meetings but do not reflect the majority of people. We may
have a professor or expert who is called by legislators for advice or to clarify some part of policy.
Also, people are more involved and well read on issues and understand the issues more completely.
There are a few problems with this way of doing things and we can look at the "Reinventing School
Lunch" policy to see how this system can be effective and also cause some delays and problems.
The original goal of the food lunch program was to feed malnourished school children and to help
farmers by buying up some of their extra crops and commodities. This program worked well for 50
years and was a popular and accepted program. In the 1990's the program was looked at and it was
determined to look at and reinvent the school lunch program. There were many players in this
reinvention and we have Helen Haas who is the head of the "food and nutrition services." She is the
lady who develops a feud with the School food service association. There are also other players in
the story including, school food workers, parent and teacher groups, the farmers, dietary advocacy
groups, the dairy council, meat council, and various health groups. The

A Well Dinner At The Family Table
A well–prepared dinner at the family table was a staple of my childhood. Arriving home from a long
day at school, I could always expect my mother to soon make her way to the kitchen to begin her, as
she called it, "second job." College life and all of its responsibilities, however, have flipped my
expectations of my day–to–day eating experiences. Keeping a log of when and why I am eating has
opened my eyes to the reality of food no longer being a priority in my life. I eat when I can afford
the time as other obligations take my focus. Food has also mostly lost its human qualities. I now feel
as if I am merely consuming to allow myself to continue functioning as opposed to enjoying food
for its quality or savoring a social aspect. The first thing I immediately noticed from my food journal
was the minimalistic nature of my diet. I begin the average weekday by consuming something
unimaginative, such as oatmeal or a sandwich, before making my way to campus. After my classes,
it is nearly three in the afternoon when I attempt to contemplate what I will next have. This midday
meal usually consists, yet again, of something lackluster and repetitive. Many of these meals are a
basic sandwich or include a baked potato. Beyond that meal is a guessing game as to when I will eat
again. I try to push back eating as long as I can so that I can accomplish as many responsibilities as
possible. Only once hunger has brought itself to the forefront of my consciousness will I then again

Eat Drink Man Woman Analysis

  • 1. Eat Drink Man Woman Analysis When watching the movie, "Eat Drink Man Woman", I was able to learn a lot about the Chinese culture and the food that they eat. Even though all the food that was prepared in the film was high end cuisine, I was still able to get a glimpse of what it had to offer. When a lot of Americans think of Chinese food, they tend to think strictly about American Chinese food, and that is not the case. Many meals were prepared in the film that ranged from elegant soups, chicken, duck, and fish, to fancy dumplings, and desserts. The film was able to show me a lot of what the food they eat looks like, even if it was five star meals, and had a great storyline to back it up. The story involves a widowed father, who is a master chef, and the three of his daughters. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Preventing Obesity among School Children through Healthier... Preventing Obesity Among School Children through Healthier School Meals Obesity and overweight are among the pressing health problems among children and adolescents in the developed world. Obesity refers to an excess amount of body fat whereas overweight can be measured by the BMI index or height–weight ratio. According to the WHO (2012), obesity and overweight are the fifth largest risk for global deaths. Introduction Obesity and overweight among children and adolescents has increased to more than a third of children and adolescents (CDC, 2012). Children and adolescents consume 700 to 1000 more calories per day than required (NCCOR, 2012). School lunches mostly consist of fried and salty foods, which has prompted ex–military officers to call for legislation on healthy school lunches (Spillius, 2010). Problem Identification Such children are likely to have higher risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes in later years (CDC, 2012). Obesity in children and adolescents can lead to greater susceptibility to the following in later years: Asthma High blood pressure Bone and joint problems Sleep apnea Low self–esteem Problem Identification Children and adolescents often resort to unhealthy ways of controlling weight including: Crash diets Binge eating, leading to bulimia nervosa Starvation Drugs, e.g. cocaine Laxatives

  • 8. Child Hunger In America Research Paper When people ask me what I think the biggest problem in the America is today, my answer doesn't really hit me until I least expect it to. I grew up loving family get togethers, celebrations and any other event resulting in my family going all out on cooking and making sure there are seconds for everyone there. No body left a family get together hungry. I remember sitting down many times and not being able to finish all of the food I thought I could. The silent walk to the trash can trying to have let no one see everything I wasted, I humbly slid past the crowd. It's not until that very moment a family member says "You're not going to eat that?" "That is such a waste of food." Just then it would hit me and I would feel bad. Reminiscing on all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 10. Pros And Cons Of Controlling School Lunches The government controls the amount of calories in a school lunch to make sure kids get a fulfilling lunch. Although schools cannot make them buy a healthy product they control what they put out for the kids to eat. The healthy, hunger–free kids act in 2010 signed by former President Obama has helped all it can in bringing down obesity. Parents can barely control what the kids eat also, they can't be right behind their backs at all time. They could have sugar and calories for breakfast a half healthy lunch and there parents wouldn't know this and give them more calories for dinner. You aren't born knowing what is right from wrong this needs to be taught. Many people disagree with the government controlling school lunches. 68% say they shouldn't be doing this. 32% say this is okay and, should be happening (Debate pg. 1) Many parents want to be able to control what their child eats and not the government but, the other 32% feel the government is making the right choice and, they should be the only one controlling this. There are many different programs to help a kid make a healthy choice, programs to help a parent understand what to feed their child. But today 17% of school kids are obese, this is triple the rate it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kids would be more food crazed. What is put on the table is not only what the parents eat but the child too. This can be seen anywhere you go. Parents don't by salads for the kid and chicken nuggets for themselves so everyone is eating the same food. If kids don't learn to eat healthy at home, the school has a chance to teach them. But when the kids go home, they only have unhealthy food to eat. Kids develop a taste for sugar at a young age and want it when they are older. Some kids develop a taste for caffeine and diet soda. • 16. Travel Peruvians Traveling and seeing other parts of the world can be very eye opening. As you travel to other countries you can learn many things about the way they live and the different lifestyle they have from your everyday life. I got the opportunity to travel to Peru and learn many new things about the country that you wouldn't know if you didn't get to experience it first hand. One of the main things that is part of someone's lifestyle is the food they eat. The meals that Peruvians eat throughout the day create a healthier lifestyle than most Americans. Peruvians always start their day off with a substantial meal. This meal is called desayuno, and in english, breakfast. This meal is usually eaten around 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. The foods that are eaten for breakfast in Peru are very similar to the ones we eat here in America. The foods most commonly eaten are bread, oatmeal, eggs, and coffee. (Dunnell). The next meal of the day for Peruvians is their largest meal, called almuerzo, or lunch. This meal is significantly different than how Americans eat lunch. At around noon all business close and everyone goes home to eat lunch with their family. This meal usually includes three courses so it can become very drawn out. After everyone's done eating lunch business tend to open back up and everyone from the family goes back to school or `work at around 3 p.m. The three courses eaten are an appetizer, the main meal, usually followed by a ... In Peru, 15.7% of adults are obese, whereas in America that number is multiplied by two and then some, with 33% (source). Some of the reasoning behind this could be the types of foods that they eat. • 18. At What Point Does Convenience Become More Important Than... At what point does convenience become more important than health? It seems like there's an easy answer to that question. After all, health is always more important than saving a few minutes of time, right? Most people would probably agree with that, but our actions don't always hold up to the standards our words set. How often do you pop a dish into the microwave rather than preparing a good meal? Worse yet, how many times do you stop off at a fast food restaurant when you're in a rush rather than eating a balanced meal at home? It's easy to do, especially today when everyone has an overwhelmingly busy schedule. More households than ever have two working adults, and sometimes even working teenagers. • 20. Schools Should Make Meals For Religious Freedoms The School lunchroom, is it a place to observe religious freedoms? I think schools should make meals for religious restrictions available in the school cafeteria, because all students need to feel that schools care about them, this will make them feel included without raising costs. This is being used in other states and an example of that is California. The U.S. Department of Agriculture, Food, and Nutrition Service have instructions that have been provided to everyone, but they leave it up to local governments to do as they see fit. The document is more directed towards the "Jewish schools, institutions, and sponsors participating in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP)" (Food and Nutrition Service (FNS)) in California. They got together with a celebrity chef named Jamie Oliver and his crew. They ended up having a tour at Hoover High School in City Heights. Their Tour ended with them learning about the Muslim tradition of Halal and getting a demonstration of how it is prepared by some Muslim parents and students, "When we got here we actually had a couple of ladies who came on board and they informed us what Halal was and the guidelines they needed to follow"(Burks Megan). They came there with no understanding of what Halal even was "I didn 't even know what Halal was or what their guidelines particularly pertain to,"(Burks Megan). People may try to argue that nobody wants it to change but that is untrue "I want to see a change in the schools," Momentum team member Shukri Abdi said. "I want to see my son (offered) a different style of food than what I saw"(Burks Morgan). Some may also say why not just pack your own lunch rather than getting the lunch provided by the school, only one problem with that and that is income. Say you're a low income family, you qualify for the free lunch program but the only problem is that you have a religion that restricts what you can eat depending on how it's made. • 22. The School Food Service Is Necessary For Meals Served By... Our entire lives, food remains one of the few essential things required for survival. Food is one thing that everyone needs, and because of this, food becomes an important part of our economy. Quality food is necessary for everyone, but some families cannot afford to provide their children with either healthy lunches or, in some cases, a lunch at all. The National School Lunch Program was put into place to provide all children with a healthy lunch, but the program may not be economically feasible or healthfully effective. The school food service is a business. It is a not–for–profit business, yet most school food services are required to break even, so the economic pressures are very similar to those any business faces. The seemingly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These estimates imply a painful financial shortfall when one considers the growing public pressures to provide better and more nutritious school lunches (Choices). The free lunches for low–income children, summarized above, are just one fraction of this business. Within the National School Lunch Program, the school food operation also serves reduced–price lunches for moderate–income children and "paid" lunches for children from better–off families. The "paid" lunches are still federally subsidized to some extent as long as the meal meets the requirements of the federal school lunch program. Meanwhile, the school food service also sells a la carte items, trading off the loss of federal subsidy against the advantages of being able to sell more desirable or profitable products that would not qualify as a reimbursable meal. The National School Lunch Program in different school districts must compete against different things. The program will compete against vending machines, lunches brought from home, and nearby stores and restaurants for schools with an open– campus policy. All the food and beverage lines that compete with federal meal programs are grouped together as "competitive foods" (Agriculture and Applied Economics Association). In addition to costs, the school food business must consider how meeting the health guidelines will affect revenues. School cafeterias will not be able to stay in business, regardless of ... Most college students have a very short walk to their campus cafeteria. Entering the cafeteria, there is generally an array of meals to choose from. Researchers have been studying the eating habits of college students for a while. Although the studies are predominately due to the typical increase in weight of Americans over the past few centuries, the data has shown interesting results not pertaining to their research. After school study for free As a school we aim to create practical support for our students needa, along with one–to–one tuition, a warm place to go at the beginning and end of the day, food, and the enrichment activities (sport, trips and cultural activities) that some families cannot afford. There was more of a presence of meritocracy a number of years ago, and most schools have made decisions to end streaming classes. Purely from a social inequity point of view this is a smart move. We have already established that working class students fare less well so by streaming they would more than likely be in the one class. Unfortunately Smyth et al (2004) states that streaming of students is more prevalent in schools in disadvantaged areas which is the case in our schools. As illustrated in Hart et al (2007) 'Government–sponsored initiatives to raise standards and improve practice in schools have placed particular emphasis upon the need to differentiate by 'ability '. DEIS schools have a stem test for students entering the schools at the beginning. It is clearly evident that the brightest students are put in a higher level of class with a breakdown of other students afterwards. The schools reproduce such inequality that even those students that the test do not highlight are much after a later period. According to the USDA, "Americans waste enough food every day to fill a 90,000 seat football stadium" (USDA). If students donated and recycled waste it would decrease that number and it would reduce the amount of waste in landfills because they would be donating and recycling the food to food banks. The food that the schools donate would go to the needy. Also, according to David Seifman, writer for the New York Post, New York spends way too much money on food waste saying they spend "more than three hundred million dollars to ship ten thousand, 800 tons of trash every day to landfills" (Seifman). If every school donated and recycled food rather than throw it away, cities like New York wouldn't have to spend as much money and they would also save the amount of trash going into landfills because if people donate and recycle, food isn't going into the trash. In the article, "Intervention for Food Selectivity in a Specialized School Setting ... For an Adolescent Student with Autism" it discusses the commonalities of peculiar eating amongst individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and the reasoning's behind their food selectivity. It is said that texture, taste, and familiarity of foods may be explanations why a child is finicky about what they consume. (Jonson, Handen, Mayer–Costa, & Sacco, 2008; Ledford & Gast, 2006 Luiselli, 2006). The importance of the research conducted in this study is to strengthen appropriate eating and diminish mealtime behaviours in food–selectivity due to the dangerous affects it places on these individuals. There lays a problematic concern with these types of eating habits since a limited diet can cause malnutrition, dehydration, and other health risks. Although having family dinners has its benefits, many families do not eat together on a regular basis. In today's society, family dinners are becoming less frequent due to various reasons such as a busy schedule, the convenience of not cooking, and the distractions of modern day technology. There are several reasons why a family may not eat together as a family but one major reason is because of how busy a family is. Each family member has so much going on in their life that it is hard to find time for everyone in the family to eat together. Dietary Changes To School Meals Essay The Public Needs to Know: Dietary Changes to School Meals Children today are in much greater danger of health issues related to poor nutrition and diet than seen in previous generations. As children continue to face the dangers of issues like obesity, more and more programs are aiming to address the issue with effectiveness. It is clear that something needs to be done in regards to helping improve the nutritional intake of school in the state and across the country. Changes to breakfast and lunch menus within districts are directed at improving health and nutritional intake of school children across the state. More and more concern regarding the nature of school meals and how that plays into the dangerous environment America's children are being exposed to. This concern has prompted many legislative actions that have increased the standards and requirements school meals must met in districts across the country (USDA Office of Communications, 2012). Yet, following these new restrictions can prove quite a costly endeavor for many schools here in the United States. School meal programs already cost around $11 billion annually, and so changes that would require more expensive and fresh foods would strain an already fragile budget for school operations (Nixon, 2012). Government reports show that the funding for such changes will increase dramatically. • 51. Free School Meals Act 1906 Analysis One piece of legislation that was introduced was the education (provision of meals) act in 1906, this act gave free school meals to children, they rose from 9 million to 14 million. It gave the local authority a grant to fund 50% of the cost of meals and there was a public funded welfare service set up to replace charity funding. Although the School Meals Act, passed in 1906, gave local councils power to provide free school meals, if they wanted to. Money to provide these meals however had to be raised from local tax payers and so therefore was not universally adopted. By 1914 less than half of local authorities had no school meals (Intriguing History,2014) (BBC,2014). This Act did help reduce poverty because allowing a child one set meal a day meant that they would not starve if there was no food at home. Giving a child food at school would also help them learn more effectively which would give them a better chance at getting a good job. In the essay she describes why mealtime together is important. Gibbs Also goes on to tell why and its effect on the participants. Having mealtime together is important to our social and cultural well– being. For parents today it is important to have at least one meal together a day, having the children help prepare the meal, and making conversation at the dinner table. Having at least one meal a day together can have a large impact. Such as with manners, not only at the table but social cues. As how to share or pass food with others. When having meals together there is also a better chance of healthier foods, rather than unhealthier food choices. "Studies show that the more often families eat together, the less likely kids are to smoke, drink, do drugs, get depressed, develop eating disorders, and consider suicide and the more likely they are to do well in school, delay having sex, eat their vegetables, learn big words, and know which fork to use"(Gibbs 212). The link between cyberbullying victimization and mental health or substance use problems was weaker among teens who had more family dinners" (Knopf 5). Although the research could not say that family meals alone were enough, it was proven to be an extremely important factor in establishing adolescent mental health, and in reducing the impact of stressful situations. An adolescents decreased risk of smoking, drinking and doing drugs, would be yet one more reason that eating as a family should be given precedent. Many studies have observed that this decreased risk is true, regardless of the teenager's gender, family structure or socioeconomic level. Feelings of security, love and comfort, reflected in the effort and consistency of family meals, allows a family to communicate more openly. Teens with this particular advantage, are found to be more content, have good relationships with their peers, do better in school, and have healthier long term eating ... Freezer Meal Research Paper Title: Freezer Meals Introduction Its 3'oclock, the kids will be home from school soon, you have to take one to basketball, the other to soccer practice, and feed your spouse when they arrive home. You don't want to spend hours cooking a healthy meal but what choice do you have? The children need to eat something healthy and your spouse will want a hot meal on the table when they arrive home after working a grueling 8 hour shift. You look in the pantry, everything located there is not very healthy or will take hours to prepare and make. You could run down to the local hamburger fast food place, but the food they serve is not very good, and definitely not healthy, also after a while it becomes very expensive if you were to do this every time you had a day like this. Then something reminds you, there are bread buns in the bread box, then there is that pulled pork BBQ that you made way to much of two months ago sitting in a baggie in the freezer. • 69. The Spanish Cuisine Of Spain The culture of Spain is very diverse and lively. It is filled with beautiful colors like the dresses of the Flamenco dancers, or the decorations in the late–night fiestas. Last year my school had a foreign exchange student from a little island off the coast of Spain. Her name was María. She told us all about the crystal blue water that surrounded her island, and the fiestas her and her friends and family would go to until 3 A.M. Spain is a beautiful country, and this paper will explain its most important habits, customs, and differences to American culture. The Spanish cuisine is a mystery in itself. Not only does the food differ from American cuisine, but also the customs of when it is eaten. Lisa and Tony Sierra explain the eating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The flamenco was the passionate dance of romance. Finally, the Paso Doble was a simple one step dance. Most of the literature we talked about was poetry, prose, or drama. For one of our units my teacher made us write out our own fairytale, and we had to read it to the class. One of my favorite websites I found for information was commisceo–global, and they explained the cultural aspects of Spain. 94% of Spaniards are Roman Catholic, and usually in many small towns, the biggest, grandest building in the town is the church. Also, most holidays were created for religious reasons, like Three King's Day (January 6) or Holy Week (late March–early April). When María was in Minnesota she did not go to church on Sundays, but she still participated in our local youth group. The next cultural aspect this website focused on was family and gender. It explained that most families consisted of immediate and extended, which helps with financial stability and raising children. Children were also one of the topics focused on. They say that children were the prized possessions of the families. They usually started school around 6 and went to school until they were 16. After school, they could either join the workforce, further their educations in high school, or do vocational training. Adult men and women had their own roles while their children were in school. • 71. Civility Of Eating At Palm Beach State College Antonia Gonzalez Food is a universal need and pleasure. Civility stresses regulation, control, decency, courtesy and consideration. It is the manners of eating, more than what gets eaten, which expresses the humanity of the eaters. Depending on their culture, the behavior taught to be appropriate may be different than others. Allow me to demonstrate civility regarding food, what it says about me and how it reflects on Palm Beach State College. I will start by stating that I would think of the place of the meal or the setting; where I would eat. Like in most parts of the world and with most people, I would rather sit and enjoy my food at a table. It can be at home, a workplace, school, or at any restaurant, indoor or outdoor. At Palm Beach State College or any other colleges you are more independent and may end up having to eat alone. You would have to work around your class schedules for each day. You and your friends may have different schedules or you may have a full one that may only allow about 15 minutes between classes to eat something. Again, it takes away the pleasure of the food. Also, you have to consider the way or how you eat, what you eat, and the manners that you display while eating or dining with others. It is very important to learn and grow into these things. I was taught to make others comfortable. Just have some manners and show consideration for the comfort and pleasure of others that are eating or dining with you. There have been some times in my life, maybe in many other people's lives as well, when I was forced to dine with some people that either had dirty hands, were rude, were sick, sniffing, reaching and coughing over or near the food, chewing loudly or smacking, were eating with their mouths open, and other unpleasant things. • 73. The Dining Halls At Virginia State University Food plays an important role in our lives, especially in college. Food affects people financially, nutritionally, and educationally. The dining halls at Virginia State University are a major source of meals and food for students. Needless to say, it is important that those students can eat at these dining halls. The problem with this is that the cost of campus dining is way too expensive for the limited options we have. At Virginia State University, students are paying $8,226 per year for their education, while they spend $4,738 for the campus dining. That is basically half of the tuition! While most would hope if they were paying almost the equivalent amount of their tuition on their meal plan, they would be receiving a quality dining plan; however at Virginia State, that is not the case. There are limited choices at VSU; usually only two places are open. If you choose not to eat at Jones dining hall or Foster, you are forced to purchase meals off campus from Friday to Sunday night. This can become quite expensive for an unemployed college student on a budget. It can be worse for those students who do not have transportation. Another issue is the fact that many of the dining facilities are located on the main campus, this makes it harder for students who live on the opposite side to have to walk across campus for food. This limits our choices, even more, considering those who decline to take the long walk for café food that isn't even satisfying. The United States ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 75. Essay The Iron Triangle and Heclo's Policy of Issue Networks Heclo's policy of issue networks is a new way of dealing with the connection between politics and its administration. Previously, the Iron Triangle was the way that the connection was dealt with. The Iron Triangle concept described the major players as congress, career bureaucrats and large interest groups. It was said that the groups had a give and take kind of relationship and eventually led to a reasonably easy way to create policy while somewhat satisfying each of the groups. Basically, the Congress passes laws, Bureaucrats implement the laws and the interest groups support the congress. However Heclo describes the new way of doing business in Washington. We may have a small group that is very vocal and show up at meetings but do not reflect the majority of people. We may have a professor or expert who is called by legislators for advice or to clarify some part of policy. Also, people are more involved and well read on issues and understand the issues more completely. There are a few problems with this way of doing things and we can look at the "Reinventing School Lunch" policy to see how this system can be effective and also cause some delays and problems. The original goal of the food lunch program was to feed malnourished school children and to help farmers by buying up some of their extra crops and commodities. This program worked well for 50 years and was a popular and accepted program. In the 1990's the program was looked at and it was determined to look at and reinvent the school lunch program. There were many players in this reinvention and we have Helen Haas who is the head of the "food and nutrition services." She is the lady who develops a feud with the School food service association. There are also other players in the story including, school food workers, parent and teacher groups, the farmers, dietary advocacy groups, the dairy council, meat council, and various health groups. • 77. A Well Dinner At The Family Table A well–prepared dinner at the family table was a staple of my childhood. Arriving home from a long day at school, I could always expect my mother to soon make her way to the kitchen to begin her, as she called it, "second job." College life and all of its responsibilities, however, have flipped my expectations of my day–to–day eating experiences. Keeping a log of when and why I am eating has opened my eyes to the reality of food no longer being a priority in my life. I eat when I can afford the time as other obligations take my focus. Food has also mostly lost its human qualities. I now feel as if I am merely consuming to allow myself to continue functioning as opposed to enjoying food for its quality or savoring a social aspect. The first thing I immediately noticed from my food journal was the minimalistic nature of my diet. I begin the average weekday by consuming something unimaginative, such as oatmeal or a sandwich, before making my way to campus. After my classes, it is nearly three in the afternoon when I attempt to contemplate what I will next have. This midday meal usually consists, yet again, of something lackluster and repetitive. Many of these meals are a basic sandwich or include a baked potato. Beyond that meal is a guessing game as to when I will eat again. I try to push back eating as long as I can so that I can accomplish as many responsibilities as possible. Only once hunger has brought itself to the forefront of my consciousness will I then again ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
