January 24, 20011 Favorite Food My favorite food is chicken fettuccini pasta. I prefer this dish
because of the great taste. It consists of a magnificent sauce, tender chicken, and mixed vegetables.
This blend of ingredients contributes the flavor, texture, and appearances of the pasta.
Just because the sauce isn't an attractive color, which is an dull white with drops of grey from
mushrooms and specks of green from the broccoli .The creamy fettuccini sauce itself is so
tantalizing it's truly what I call the cream of the crop. Added to the sauce is a mixture of mozzarella,
ricotta, and provolone cheese along with sautГ©ed mushrooms and sun dried tomatoes. As I twirl the

The green small crunchy tree– like shaped vegetable doesn't make me feel guilty about my favorite
meal because every bite is filled with specks of broccoli so the health factor is definitely included. I
know I'm getting my proper amount of vegetables. The succulent tan chewy mushrooms provides an
excellent source of potassium, also an interesting fact (mushrooms helps with migraine headaches.)
The sundried tomatoes are sparingly sprinkled throughout the dish because the flavor is quite
intense, concentrated and slightly salty so a little goes along way. Many vegetables give pasta the
picture perfect look. When eating this incredible tasting pasta I understand what it takes to make food
so inviting. It has many different yet, incredible savory sauces and different ways of being crafted
it can easily be adapted in diverse culture which makes pasta that more interesting. The pasta dish
has come a long way from its original creation in the 18th century with its ingredients that consisted
of only egg , flour, cheese, and cream; however, it has evolved into a food of art that has my taste
buds more in–tact. Its roman herbs and spices give me a feeling of warmth and cheerfulness at the
time of eating. Food of this stature should be a crime given my opinion because of the texture and
taste only keeps me coming back for more. This pasta comes second to none; it's my choice over all
when it comes to my favorite

Food Insecurity Essay
Food Insecurity Nutrition is important for healthy life. Many people are still hungry around the
world even though there is mass production of food. This is because of unhealthy food
production. In today's world we see many obese people because of high intake of high fat and
cholesterol containing food. It is important to have a healthy diet/ nutritional intake for individuals
to have good foundation for physical and mental health. Now a day's healthy food is getting more
expensive rather than unhealthy food. Poor people are forced to eat unhealthy food, while the rich
can afford to eat whatever the please. Food insecurity is caused by individuals not having healthy
food for their families due to their low income or political and...show more content...
Even in developed country like The United States of America food security is a major problem. In
the article "Association of Household and Community Characteristics with Adult and Child Food
Insecurity among Mexican–Origin Households in Colonias along the Texas–Mexico Border" author
Sharkey et.al supports that over population of Mexicans, living in colonies along the Texas– Mexico
border causes food insecurity. Because of the Overpopulation on the texas–mexico border there is
low availability of healthy food, causing people to eat junk food which lacks of nutritional value,
and has high amount of sugar, fat, cholesterol. Food insecurity causes health issues such as obesity,
diabetes, heart disease, and early mortality among young single mothers. According to author
Christine A. Stevens young single mothers are affected by food insecurity in two ways "first, the
stress of food insecurity can lead to compounding issues of depression for this mother, second, food
choice." Factors that assist these problems are socioeconomic status and the ability to obtain
adequate nutrition. These young single mothers do not have enough money to give nutritional food
to their families. With limited money they do not have a choice for nutritional food and according to
Stevens are forced to buy "inexpensive, high fat, high carbohydrates food" (Stevens 163). In

Food And Drink Essay
How to Eat and Drink Healthily when Travelling Maintaining a healthy diet while travelling is not
the world's easiest thing to do. Not only is your access to food restricted by what is available
around you, but also the temptations to snack and eat junk food are enhanced when you hit the road.
The good news is that eating and drinking healthily isn't impossible – you just need to keep these tips
and tricks in mind the next time you hit the road. Packing healthier options with you The most
obvious way to avoid indulging in bad snacks and drinks is by packing healthier options with you.
If you have healthy food with you, you naturally won't feel the need to spend money and end up
making bad choices. So, instead of being forced to buy a chocolate...show more content...
You don't have to just rely on packed goods in order to stay healthy– it is possible to buy healthy
foods and drinks at your destination and on the road. When shopping at the airport or station
(gas, bus or train), try to consider the above food choices as your go to items. Purchase turkey or
chicken sandwiches, look for nut and fruit mixes with no added chocolate or sugar and skip the
sugary beverages for water. Yogurt can be a great option, especially when soothing an upset
stomach and opt for salads whenever possible. Just remember to have the dressing on the side to
avoid those sneaky calories. Furthermore, check your options beforehand! If you know the route
and especially the stations you'll be stopping by, check out what supermarkets or brands are
available. You can even find discounts from VoucherBin to eat at restaurants across the UK to
ensure you eat healthy and save money. For example, if you are staying at a Premier Inn, browse
their website to see the menu and plan your meals ahead of time. The same works with stations, as
you can generally see the stores available at the station and plan your shopping accordingly. Make

The Most Memorable Meal Essay
The Most Memorable Meal
As a food lover and adventurous eater, I've certainly eaten so many kinds of food from many
countries around the world. And I have a lot of good and bad moments related to food. However,
when you ask me about the most memorable meal that I have eaten in my life, perhaps the first thing
that appears in my mind is my daddy's soup.
It was 10 years ago, when I was just a little boy. At that time, my mom had so much work at her
office and she just couldn't come back home until 9 p.m. In my family, my mom was the only one
who could prepare food and cook. So when she called my dad and said that she couldn't come back
home early to cook a meal for me and my father, we thought that we were having the biggest problem

And I was so surprised about my dad's soup. All my thoughts about a great meal were taken down.
The soup was not as delicious as it looked, it tasted so weird: at first, I felt it so salty, after a while,
it tasted so spicy. After tasting the first sip, I looked at my dad and smiled. He just thought that he
was successful with his soup until he tried his first sip. Then he knew how his soup was and he
said "Sorry son, I tried my best, maybe we can wait for mom to come back home and cook dinner
for us." As soon as he finished speaking, I took the spoon, continued eating the soup and smiled. I
know the soup was not good, but it was from my dad, from all his love for me. I don't know if my
dad knew what I was thinking or not, or maybe he thought that I was so hungry to eat everything
even though it tasted too bad. My dad was so surprised about my act for a while, and he continued
to eat the soup with me. We both had a great time together, eating and talking with each other
about bad things, good things at work and school. After that, my mom finally came home. She
looked so tired from her work, but she still smiled and looked at me and my dad while both of us
were eating soup. She surely knew my dad made something for me and she slowly went forward to
the table and started tasting the soup. After her tasting, not a single word, she hugged both of us
with her slender arms and also with all her heart. This

Food Culture Essay
Factors Influencing Food Habits and Culture Eating food is essential for all of us, it keep us alive
and also gives us enjoyment at the same time. Food can be defined as any substance that can be
metabolized by an animal to give energy and build tissue. (ilearn) In ancient time, when people feel
hungry, they eat. However, as human history keep developing and evolving, we have a higher
standard on choosing food that we like to eat nowadays. In this paper, we are going to evaluate
factors that are influencing our food habits and food culture. Those factors can be divided into two
main categories, internal factors (individual preference and values) and external factors
(geographical, religion, social, economic and political). Internal...show more content...
Another example would be Chinese like to eat hot pot in winter to keep them warm. In the
northern part of China, there are more spicy dishes than the southern part of China. This is
because eating spicy food will keep people warm. In costal region, there is more seafood than the
inland region. The reason is because it is easier to get fresh seafood in costal region than in the
inland region. Japan is an island surrounded by sea, and that is why eating seafood is famous in
Japan. Some locations are better for growing specific food, for example China have the climate
advantage in growing tea, and France have the advantage in growing wine. Religion is another
external factors influencing food habits and food culture. Different culture has different religion,
different religion has different custom and food is an important part of a religion. Some religion
such as Muslims, consider eating pork as a dirty food, and people should not eat them. Buddhism
do not recommend members to eat meat, because they think that is cruel to kill an animal and that
we should respect them so we should not eat them. Therefore, a lot of Buddhism followers are
vegetarians. Hinduism followers do not eat cow because they think that cows are scarce. People
who believe in a religion will follow the rules of the religion, so this will influence their food habit.
Some religions do not have rules about food, but they have specific food to eat.

Essay on Organic Foods
Organic Foods
"You are what you eat", or so they say. In today's supermarkets, organic foods are everywhere. Not
only are there organic fruits and vegetables, but there are also organic dairy products, organic meats,
organic convenience foods, organic wine, beer, coffee, tea and even clothes made with organic
cotton. All of these choices have made organic foods the "fastest–growing segment of the grocery
industry." The Organic Trade Association (OTA), in its "Business Facts" fact sheet available at
www.ota.com, cites Natural Foods Merchandiser, a trade magazine, as measuring organic industry
growth at 20 percent or greater for the past nine years. Approximately two percent of the U.S. food
supply is grown using organic methods. In...show more content...
Many of the chemicals used to grow and process food today have greatly expedited the entire food
production process. However, Researchers and Scientists in the past relied solely on the efficiency
aspect of the process with little regard to any long–term health affects potentially resulting from the
intake of such foods, especially with the younger population whose immune system is more prone to
ailment.
One of the main principles of organic farming is the cultivation of products without the use of
harmful chemicals and additives. This use of chemicals, both past and present, has led to "Factory
Farming," a popular term describing the mass quantities of food produced throughout the twentieth
century. The rise of these factory–produced foods caused the decline of small scale and family
owned farms. However, the more recent rise in awareness and waves of environmentalism, organic
farms, small and large are back on top and often benefit local communities, land and especially the
people who farm them (B.Wyland, Personal Communication, 1, March, 2005).
The word Organic itself describes a way of growing food. It's a form of agriculture that arose in the
last century in response to the increasing use of synthetic and often toxic chemicals to grow food.
The National Organic Standards Board (NOSB), a governmental advisory panel to the National
Organic Program, wrote this condensed definition of organic farming in

Essay on Food Sustainability
In food service it is important to realize and address hot button issues within the industry to begin to
understand what the target market wants, increase revenue and decrease cost centers. In researching
the increasingly pressing issue of food sustainability in global food service it was discovered that
implementations are initially expensive and require large amounts of dedication but are ultimately
huge factors in increasing brand loyalty and recognition and gaining popularity within the "green"
market segment. It was the goal of this paper to outline specific concerns posed by the issue of food
sustainability as well as methods of the industry's participation in its solutions and to analyze the
progress made to increase awareness of...show more content...
Additionally, on a socio–cultural level, many consumers feel that restaurants partaking in green
initiatives and operations are doing their part to not only help sustain the earth but also to
conserving natural resources (Hu, Parsa & Self, 2010). "Going green" is not simply a trend in the
food service industry but around the world and in all forms of business. Corporate companies
consider "going green" as a sensible business strategy in building recognition for corporate social
responsibility among consumers concerned with environmental conservation efforts. Lastly,
technological initiatives such as Energy Star appliances (dishwashers, refrigerators, ice machines,
etc.) and faucets that use less water must also be analyzed in their ecological conservation capability
and weighed against their financial costs (University of Notre Dame, 2014).
"Reduce, reuse, and recycle" is a motto that pioneered environmental programs in schools, and public
announcements. This motto also holds true in the food service industry. Following the trend to "go
green" means implementing this motto into restaurant operations. This includes procedural changes
that aim to reduce the amount of resources used, attempting to reuse resources, and recycling those
that cannot be reused. Restaurants can move toward more sustainable food service through the
utilization of

Diet and Nutrition Essay
A person eats to gain energy from food that allows our body to perform various functions that
allows us to survive. The food that people take in will go through their digestive system that then
allows them to harness the energy within food. That energy that is taken from the food is then
sent, via the bloodstream, to all of the living cells. These cells then use this energy to perform
their daily functions and tasks. We also eat food to help rebuild and repair damaged and old cells.

The easiest way to lower a persons' risk of lifestyle disease is to change their diet to a more
healthful one, and staying out of harmful environments. So, lifestyle diseases are diseases that
you can't always control but a person can greatly lower his risk of obtaining them. There are six
different food groups and they are: Fruit, Grain, Lean Meat and Poultry, Milk and Dairy, and
Vegetables. You should eat mostly grains, vegetables, and fruits. From most to least you should
eat: Grain, Vegetables, Fruit, Lean Meat and Poultry, Milk and Dairy, and then lastly fats, oils,
and sweets. You should in small amounts and only sometimes eat fats, oils, and sweets. All of
these different food groups contribute to your daily diet. The Daily intake guidelines are the
amounts and percentages of fats, proteins, carbs, etc. that a person should intake every day for
healthy eating. These guidelines are based on your weight; for example a person who weighs
100 lbs. would need less carbs than a person who weighs 200 lbs. It is also based on your level of
physical activity, height, and age. The daily intake (DI) you see on various foods is based on an
average adult's daily requirement of 8700kJ. The amount of kJ a person needs varies from person
to person because we are all different and require different amounts of nutrients. Minerals are a class

Homemade Food Is The Best Choice
Cooking and eating is always fun, especially homemade food. Food is one of the primary
necessities of humans and also plays a vital role in maintaining good health. People work hard to
eat; it does not matter if it is healthy or not, but healthy eating prevents a variety of health problems.
For some people eating is an option, but for others they live to eat. People enjoy cooking their own
meals; it gives us peace of mind, satisfaction, and a guarantee of cleanliness. Homemade food is
always treated as a privilege, especially with our hectic life schedules. Now a days, people seldom

They all love homemade food instead of fast food because they say it is delicious. Talking with
people who cook at home, most stated that they make fresh ingredients at home, like grind and
powder all seasonings and curries, so it gives the best flavor, taste, and smell. According to
British Broad Casting, The World Health Organization recommends greatly reducing the intake
of processed foods, because it is not freshly made and people do not know how long it is been in
the freezer or what all ingredients in it (World). Eating at our own kitchen table allow us to eat
more fresh fruits and vegetables so we can focus on all natural ingredients. Most of the people
who cook at home have their own kitchen garden also, so all the vegetables are fresh and organic.
This gives us a great satisfaction and peace of mind that it is fresh cooked meals from our own
garden to the table. The second reason to eat homemade food is that it helps to improve our health.
Before the wide spread availability of fast food restaurants, people always cooked their meals at
home; because of this, they were healthier and lived longer. There were not so many diseases like
myocardial infarction, diabetes, or hypertension; it is so popular now due to not controlling their diet
or eating out all the time. These disease conditions not only affect our health but it also affects our
economy. Unfortunately, many young adults or their

Proper nutrition is one of the most essential elements to being healthy and living a long life.
People deal with food every day, and food has been a part of life since the beginning of
civilization. What we eat becomes our diet, and our diet plays a major role in deciding how
healthy we are and how well our body functions. Without proper diet, our body cannot carry out the
functions it needs to perform. Most people have some common knowledge on what is good and
what is bad for the human body to consume. Fruits, vegetables, nuts, and grains are some common
items people think of when they think of healthy foods. However, it is not enough just to know

These include obesity, diabetes, and several heart conditions. Obesity is the term used for
someone who qualifies as significantly overweight. A BMI (Body Mass Index) records weight in
relation to height. A BMI of 25 is overweight and a BMI of 30 is obese. Obesity is not a disease in
its self but it can lead to different health issues, some fatal. Obesity can be related to eighty
percent of type two diabetes, seventy percent of cardiovascular disease, thirty percent to gall
bladder surgeries, and forty two percent to breast and colon cancer. Unfortunately, obesity rates
in people are rising rapidly. The United States alone had an obesity rate of twenty six percent in
2007. Some cases of obesity are gene related, but most other cases are a result of improper dieting
and exercise among the individual ("Why Is Proper Nutrition Important?", Case Western Reserve
University). Type II diabetes is another major effect from improper diet and nutrition. When
someone is a type II diabetic, their body either produces too little of an amount of insulin, or their
body's cells ignore the insulin. Insulin is important in helping your body use sugar for Kavanaugh 3
energy. When a person consumes food with sugar, the sugar is broken down into glucose. Glucose
is used as an energy source for the body and is transported throughout your blood into the cells by
insulin. Without proper amounts of insulin, your body is unable to use the glucose as

Persuasive Essay About Food Bank
Food banks are a terrible solution to a terrible issue. Hunger is one of the biggest issues the
human race experiences. One in nine people in the world, or 795 million people, out of the 7.4
billion people go hungry every day because they do not have enough to eat. Every 10 seconds, a
child dies from hunger–related diseases (The Hunger Project, 2017). The way lots of organizations
try to help these people in need are through food banks. A foodbank is a non–profit, charitable
organization that distributes to those who have difficulty purchasing enough food to avoid hunger.
Food banks are inefficient in aspects of time, money, and effort because so much more can be done
through donations of money, not non–perishable foods and items....show more content...
Another issue arises though, it needs to be transported from the warehouse to the appropriate
drop–off place, which is most likely in a high–density residential area, not an industrial area. The
time it takes for all this to happen is simply too much and non–efficient. We are in an era where time
is valuable. Everyone is so busy with their lives, be it for work, school, family, or hobbies, it is
unnecessary to spend all this time just to donate something that not even the buyer would eat. To
show an example, let's say a donator's name is David. David works a 9–5 job which pays $20 per
hour and has three kids, two of which have swimming practice after school. David picks up his
kids at 5:30, and goes home right in time for dinner. On his dinner table, he has high quality foods
that are packed with nutrients. David remembers there's a food drive raffle near his workplace that
is looking for donations for a chance to win a grand prize. David now has to go out of his way to go
to a grocery store to buy non–perishable foods. Instead of wasting his time going, he can go to the
food bank and simply donate money. If David was planning on spending $5 and 45 minutes for
the whole process, from purchasing the items to dropping them off, he actually spent $20 plus a
few extra dollars for gas. Instead of wasting 45 minutes of his time to get $5 worth of food, he could
easily have donated $25, which go a long way. This will be explained later, but

Food And Its Impact On Society
Everyone on earth needs food to sustain themselves, but have we ever thought to consider what we
put in our mouths? Foods have changed greatly as humans continue to advance technologically. The
greatest change of food however comes from society. The foods that we eat and create are
influenced greatly by societies behaviors and habits. Foods in a culture sometimes represent a
society itself. These habits vary from around the world. The easiest and most efficient way for a
society to sustain itself is to produce its own food. As nomadic societies grew larger they were
forced to settle and become somewhat of a agricultural society to sustain their larger population.
The crops that were produced varied around the world but as the world became more
technologically advanced foods could be anywhere at any time we wanted. As populations rise
people had to find a way to produce a great deal of food in a short amount of time. Back then it
was simple because there were not many mouths to feed. The people of today are concerned
about the health issues of food ever since it was industrialized. According to Texas A and M
university the meat inspection act was made for, " Detection and Destruction of diseased meat and
/or contaminated meat." These laws and acts came in place for concern of the people. Even today
there is controversy with genetically grown foods. There are major benefits to genetically grown
crops such as growing crops fast but there are also concerns. According to

Eating Is Something That I Love And Enjoy
Eating is something that I love and enjoy greatly, I love to try new foods and explore new recipes
with my girlfriend. We generally try to make one new recipe each week. I am not a very picky
eater, however, there are some foods that I do not enjoy at all, such as asparagus, mushrooms, and
brussels sprouts. Most people sit down and have three larger meals a day along with some
snacks. I don't eat very much at one time. Generally, I will eat two eggs in the morning, half a
sandwich for lunch with salad or another side, and for dinner I will have a regular sized portion
of whatever we decide to cook that night. I do enjoy snacking on little things like crackers
throughout the day as well. My eating habits revolve around a busy schedule; I am a full time
student and I have two jobs. So, I spend a lot of time eating in my car or at work. I work with a little
boy who is non–verbal and has autism. He is quite a handful; whenever I am with him I need
something I can eat quickly such as a sandwich, piece of fruit, or a protein bar. I generally try to
eat fairly healthy when I can, which is often hard being so busy and not having a lot of money. To
go back to where my eating habits all started. When I was younger my family ate a lot of
processed foods. My mom was gone on business trips a lot. So, that left my dad in charge for
taking care of my brother and I; he was not the best cook. We would eat things such as ham steak,

Descriptive Essay About Food
One of the biggest struggles in my life tends to be food. I love eating, but at the same time, I rather
not eat. I love trying new foods with exotic flavors and unique recipes, but I fear the reaction that
by body will force on me. I have recently been diagnosed with a condition known as dyspepsia. This
essentially means my stomach does not enjoy food as much as my mouth does. With each meal, I
face the possibility of becoming nauseous after eating. As a result, I tend to avoid large portions,
greasy, or overly sweet foods. Although, every now and then, I push my fears of food aside and
fully indulge myself in spectacular meals. Poe's Tavern has been the restaurant in which I break
beyond my fears and gorge on food. Located in Wrightsville beach, Poe's Tavern tends to be one of
my favorite places to eat to feel satisfied after a meal, and fascinated as a literary fanatic throughout

Food Waste Essay
Food Waste Position/Proposal
By Natalie Parisi
An Introduction to the Problem
Food waste is something that affects us all. It happens anywhere food has a presence; the grocery
store, restaurants, in our homes, at schools, on farms, in production and even in transportation. It
affects people everywhere; those living oceans away and those that share our boarders, people living
across America and throughout Utah, businesses and households alike.
Being Aware is a Personal Responsibility
So is the problem food waste itself, or that food is being thrown out when there are alternative
options? Or is it that we just don't stop to consider there is a problem? My concern is that it's not a
priority for most people. In addition, there are...show more content...
(Sklamberg, par.3)
Claiming Ownership
In our homes waste caused because we don't pay attention; we are inattentive and ignorant. For some
of us, it just isn't important. (Jones, Dive!)
Wasting food is a bad habit that affects all of society and we continue to implicate ourselves in
the problem. Of the total of food loss that is going on about 40 percent is in the household. Overall a
typical household of four loses about 600 dollars in food a year. (Jones 11)
Like many things, we just don't bother or we don't feel that we have the time. We aren't realizing
how much it affects each of us. Have you ever taken the time to stop and think about it?
Thinking about it, I realize that every day I throw something away that could be saved and eaten
later. When I take the trash out there are a number of food items that don't need to be there. After
we finish dinner I am wiping food off of plates and realizing that I've made too much. Every time I
clean out the fridge there is food going into the garbage because I waited too long to use it.
Whatever the reason, I realize that it does affect me in many ways and it's constantly happening in
my home.
Looking at the Impacts of Food Waste
Food Waste affects our pocket book because we are essentially throwing out money. At the same
time it is impacting us financially it's also playing a huge role in the problems we see happening to
our environment.
The US Environment Protection Agency said, "Generating food waste

Essay about Food Miles
Food Miles A food mile is the distance food travels from the farm to the store where you buy it, and
these miles are costly to the environment. They are among the fastest–growing sources of
greenhouse gas emissions worldwide. The concept of food miles started in the early 1990's in the
United Kingdom .The more the food miles that are attached to a particular food, the less sustainable
and the less environmentally the food is desired. Professor Tim Lang at the Sustainable Agriculture
Food and Environment (SAFE) was the person behind conceiving the food miles, which appeared in
a report 'The food miles report'. The report consisted of the highlights of the hidden ecological, social
and economic consequences of food production to consumers...show more content...
It has been stated that if people suggested buying food originating from within a 20km radius from
our locality, the country would save over two billion pounds in congestion and environmental
costs. Food grown locally is more environmentally friendly. The reason usually given for this is
that imported food e.g. New Zealand lamb, require a lot of fossil fuels and produce a lot of
carbon emission to get it to the market. Locally grown food, require less fossil fuel and therefore
put out less carbon emissions and is better on a global scale. The media have surfaced a huge
image regarding the New Zealand apples that are transported to the UK .The issue is how the
produce is carried by air. Air transport is a very high producer of greenhouse gases and the
concept of produce being flown from one side of the world to the other is repellent to many
environmentally aware people. However, products like the New Zealand lamb going to the UK are
not transported by air, but are freighted by ship, which uses less fossil fuel and has less emission
per kg of produce. The amount of fossil fuel used to import produce pales beside the amount of fossil
fuel consumed taking the produce from the point of entry into the country to the depot, to the
supermarket and then to the consumer's home. In conclusion food miles does not take into account
the wider economic benefits that trade provides to

I think the most memorable meal I have ever eaten last December 21 of 2013 during our Christmas
party in the Philippines. There was a lechon (roasted pig), a bam–i (fried noodle), tinolang manok
(ginger native chicken soup), goat caldereta, dinuguan (pork blood stew), fresh lumpia (spring roll),
and rice. For our dessert was a fruit salad and a Filipino native wine name tuba made from coconut.
It was memorable because of the presence of my family and friends back home in the Philippines
celebrating Christmas with me. It was also a thanksgiving dinner for my family for protecting my
family from the Typhoon Haiyan that hit part of my province. The combination of food and having
family enjoying the food was the most memorable one.

Tinolang manok (Native Chicken Soup) – I think the texture of the Green Papaya give a contrasting
texture to the native chicken meat. Papaya has a soft and easily melts in our mouth once its cook
while the chicken meat a bit firmer. For me the complimentary taste of this dishes is the native
chicken it has a natural taste that so incredible and it gives the soup a savoury taste.
Dinuguan ( Pork Blood Stew) – This is the dishes that give a lot of contrasting texture from the
pork blood itself to the other ingrediets like the ground pork if you use it or it can be a pork
intestine. Pork intestine is a little bit hard to chew while the pork blood has a different texture inside
your mouth. If the dishes will be prepared properly with the exact texture and taste, this dishes came
out very different taste but complimenting to the mouth, the vinegar taste give a little bit of a twist
on this dish.
Fresh Lumpia or fresh springroll– This dish is a combination of vegetable especially the heart of
palm, pork, and shrimp gives a contrasting texture to the egg creeps that is use to wrap the mixture
of vegetable and meat. The taste of the mixture inside combine with the creeps and sauces give a
different blast taste of the dish.
Fruit Salad – Filipino love's fruit salad, it's a mixture of

Personal Narrative: Food Traditions
Guacamole
When my brothers and I were younger, noodles and cottage cheese were a staple food for us. My
mom says that they're a classic in every Jewish household, but she might remember it that way
because cottage cheese is another food group for my Bubbie. There's no telling how much my mom
and her siblings must have ate it. But it started a family food tradition, one that my mother put a
healthy twist on, as usual: one day, she served the dish with chunks of avocado.
I remember my twin brother, Jordan, bringing the bowl right in front of his face and chowing down
on the new variation of the dish, unfazed for once to try this new thing.
"What's that green stuff?" I asked my mom as she piled some noodles onto my dad's plate. I tried a
piece of the mysterious substance, skewering it on my fork, and recoiling at the creamy, earthy taste.
It was too fatty, strangely nutty, and most of all, too green.
"It's...show more content...
We were in Mexico, after all. Could the local fare be that bad?
The truth is, no. But it wasn't the meal of a lifetime, either. The highlight of the meal was the
guacamole, the dish that completely changed my perspective on avocados and started my
long–standing love affair with the fruit.
When the waiter brought the complimentary dip to our brightly decorated table, I was skeptical at
first, not knowing what it was.
"Come on, try some," my dad beckoned. "We might be filling up on it if the rest of the food is bad,"
I rolled my eyes. "That's what you told us last night, only with the breadsticks at La Cucina,"
"Look, all we've been eating on this trip is chicken and pasta, exactly what we have at home almost
every night. Don't you want to try something new and authentic?"
"Fine," I sighed, dipping a tortilla chip in the

Reflective Essay About Food
Food brings everyone together no matter what culture you are in. Culture is a way of life shared
by a group of people, beliefs, customs, symbols and etc. Many families can spend time with each
other by preparing and eating dinner at the table, going out for dinner or just celebrating holidays. In
my family, when we eat at the dinner table, we talk about our day and build better bonds through
our interactions. My mother cooks the meal, my sisters and I set up the table with utensils and
place mats and my father is ready to eat. We all sit at the table, no technology, elbows off the table
and we give grace. While we eat, we talk about our day or anything exciting has happened and we
argue and laugh with each other.
Being in my family, we have made many traditions that have been part of my culture since I was a
kid. Going to Disneyland is one of the traditions we have. The entire family would go come to
have a good time with each other. Since we were a big family, it would be too expensive to buyfood
for everyone so we make sandwiches. Everyone would contribute to bring food, my parents would
bring bread, my uncles would bring the meats and veggies and my aunts would bring chips and
sodas. Being a hispanic family, we would also bring black beans with bread. Since its too much to
carry, we would meet up at the cars in the parking structure and eat in the cars. The sandwiches
weren't just ordinary sandwiches, the bread which call " pan frances" basically french bread.

Essay About Food

  • 1. Descriptive Favorite Food Essay Whitney Walker Professor Brogdon Eng.101 sec.505 January 24, 20011 Favorite Food My favorite food is chicken fettuccini pasta. I prefer this dish because of the great taste. It consists of a magnificent sauce, tender chicken, and mixed vegetables. This blend of ingredients contributes the flavor, texture, and appearances of the pasta. Just because the sauce isn't an attractive color, which is an dull white with drops of grey from mushrooms and specks of green from the broccoli .The creamy fettuccini sauce itself is so tantalizing it's truly what I call the cream of the crop. Added to the sauce is a mixture of mozzarella, ricotta, and provolone cheese along with sautГ©ed mushrooms and sun dried tomatoes. As I twirl the ...show more content... The green small crunchy tree– like shaped vegetable doesn't make me feel guilty about my favorite meal because every bite is filled with specks of broccoli so the health factor is definitely included. I know I'm getting my proper amount of vegetables. The succulent tan chewy mushrooms provides an excellent source of potassium, also an interesting fact (mushrooms helps with migraine headaches.) The sundried tomatoes are sparingly sprinkled throughout the dish because the flavor is quite intense, concentrated and slightly salty so a little goes along way. Many vegetables give pasta the picture perfect look. When eating this incredible tasting pasta I understand what it takes to make food so inviting. It has many different yet, incredible savory sauces and different ways of being crafted it can easily be adapted in diverse culture which makes pasta that more interesting. The pasta dish has come a long way from its original creation in the 18th century with its ingredients that consisted of only egg , flour, cheese, and cream; however, it has evolved into a food of art that has my taste buds more in–tact. Its roman herbs and spices give me a feeling of warmth and cheerfulness at the time of eating. Food of this stature should be a crime given my opinion because of the texture and taste only keeps me coming back for more. This pasta comes second to none; it's my choice over all when it comes to my favorite Get more content on HelpWriting.net

This is because of unhealthy food production. In today's world we see many obese people because of high intake of high fat and cholesterol containing food. It is important to have a healthy diet/ nutritional intake for individuals to have good foundation for physical and mental health. Now a day's healthy food is getting more expensive rather than unhealthy food. Poor people are forced to eat unhealthy food, while the rich can afford to eat whatever the please. Food insecurity is caused by individuals not having healthy food for their families due to their low income or political and...show more content... Even in developed country like The United States of America food security is a major problem. In the article "Association of Household and Community Characteristics with Adult and Child Food Insecurity among Mexican–Origin Households in Colonias along the Texas–Mexico Border" author Sharkey et.al supports that over population of Mexicans, living in colonies along the Texas– Mexico border causes food insecurity. Because of the Overpopulation on the texas–mexico border there is low availability of healthy food, causing people to eat junk food which lacks of nutritional value, and has high amount of sugar, fat, cholesterol. Food insecurity causes health issues such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and early mortality among young single mothers. According to author Christine A. Stevens young single mothers are affected by food insecurity in two ways "first, the stress of food insecurity can lead to compounding issues of depression for this mother, second, food choice." Factors that assist these problems are socioeconomic status and the ability to obtain adequate nutrition. These young single mothers do not have enough money to give nutritional food to their families. With limited money they do not have a choice for nutritional food and according to Stevens are forced to buy "inexpensive, high fat, high carbohydrates food" (Stevens 163). Not only is your access to food restricted by what is available around you, but also the temptations to snack and eat junk food are enhanced when you hit the road. The good news is that eating and drinking healthily isn't impossible – you just need to keep these tips and tricks in mind the next time you hit the road. Packing healthier options with you The most obvious way to avoid indulging in bad snacks and drinks is by packing healthier options with you. If you have healthy food with you, you naturally won't feel the need to spend money and end up making bad choices. So, instead of being forced to buy a chocolate...show more content... You don't have to just rely on packed goods in order to stay healthy– it is possible to buy healthy foods and drinks at your destination and on the road. When shopping at the airport or station (gas, bus or train), try to consider the above food choices as your go to items. Purchase turkey or chicken sandwiches, look for nut and fruit mixes with no added chocolate or sugar and skip the sugary beverages for water. Yogurt can be a great option, especially when soothing an upset stomach and opt for salads whenever possible. Just remember to have the dressing on the side to avoid those sneaky calories. Furthermore, check your options beforehand! If you know the route and especially the stations you'll be stopping by, check out what supermarkets or brands are available. You can even find discounts from VoucherBin to eat at restaurants across the UK to ensure you eat healthy and save money. For example, if you are staying at a Premier Inn, browse their website to see the menu and plan your meals ahead of time. The same works with stations, as you can generally see the stores available at the station and plan your shopping accordingly. Make smarter Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. The Most Memorable Meal Essay The Most Memorable Meal As a food lover and adventurous eater, I've certainly eaten so many kinds of food from many countries around the world. And I have a lot of good and bad moments related to food. However, when you ask me about the most memorable meal that I have eaten in my life, perhaps the first thing that appears in my mind is my daddy's soup. It was 10 years ago, when I was just a little boy. At that time, my mom had so much work at her office and she just couldn't come back home until 9 p.m. In my family, my mom was the only one who could prepare food and cook. So when she called my dad and said that she couldn't come back home early to cook a meal for me and my father, we thought that we were having the biggest problem in...show more content... And I was so surprised about my dad's soup. All my thoughts about a great meal were taken down. The soup was not as delicious as it looked, it tasted so weird: at first, I felt it so salty, after a while, it tasted so spicy. After tasting the first sip, I looked at my dad and smiled. He just thought that he was successful with his soup until he tried his first sip. Then he knew how his soup was and he said "Sorry son, I tried my best, maybe we can wait for mom to come back home and cook dinner for us." As soon as he finished speaking, I took the spoon, continued eating the soup and smiled. I know the soup was not good, but it was from my dad, from all his love for me. I don't know if my dad knew what I was thinking or not, or maybe he thought that I was so hungry to eat everything even though it tasted too bad. My dad was so surprised about my act for a while, and he continued to eat the soup with me. We both had a great time together, eating and talking with each other about bad things, good things at work and school. After that, my mom finally came home. She looked so tired from her work, but she still smiled and looked at me and my dad while both of us were eating soup. She surely knew my dad made something for me and she slowly went forward to the table and started tasting the soup. After her tasting, not a single word, she hugged both of us with her slender arms and also with all her heart. This Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Food can be defined as any substance that can be metabolized by an animal to give energy and build tissue. (ilearn) In ancient time, when people feel hungry, they eat. However, as human history keep developing and evolving, we have a higher standard on choosing food that we like to eat nowadays. In this paper, we are going to evaluate factors that are influencing our food habits and food culture. Those factors can be divided into two main categories, internal factors (individual preference and values) and external factors (geographical, religion, social, economic and political). In the northern part of China, there are more spicy dishes than the southern part of China. This is because eating spicy food will keep people warm. In costal region, there is more seafood than the inland region. The reason is because it is easier to get fresh seafood in costal region than in the inland region. Japan is an island surrounded by sea, and that is why eating seafood is famous in Japan. Some locations are better for growing specific food, for example China have the climate advantage in growing tea, and France have the advantage in growing wine. Religion is another external factors influencing food habits and food culture. Different culture has different religion, different religion has different custom and food is an important part of a religion. Some religion such as Muslims, consider eating pork as a dirty food, and people should not eat them. Buddhism do not recommend members to eat meat, because they think that is cruel to kill an animal and that we should respect them so we should not eat them. Therefore, a lot of Buddhism followers are vegetarians. Hinduism followers do not eat cow because they think that cows are scarce. People who believe in a religion will follow the rules of the religion, so this will influence their food habit. Some religions do not have rules about food, but they have specific food to eat. Not only are there organic fruits and vegetables, but there are also organic dairy products, organic meats, organic convenience foods, organic wine, beer, coffee, tea and even clothes made with organic cotton. All of these choices have made organic foods the "fastest–growing segment of the grocery industry." The Organic Trade Association (OTA), in its "Business Facts" fact sheet available at www.ota.com, cites Natural Foods Merchandiser, a trade magazine, as measuring organic industry growth at 20 percent or greater for the past nine years. Many of the chemicals used to grow and process food today have greatly expedited the entire food production process. However, Researchers and Scientists in the past relied solely on the efficiency aspect of the process with little regard to any long–term health affects potentially resulting from the intake of such foods, especially with the younger population whose immune system is more prone to ailment. One of the main principles of organic farming is the cultivation of products without the use of harmful chemicals and additives. This use of chemicals, both past and present, has led to "Factory Farming," a popular term describing the mass quantities of food produced throughout the twentieth century. The rise of these factory–produced foods caused the decline of small scale and family owned farms. However, the more recent rise in awareness and waves of environmentalism, organic farms, small and large are back on top and often benefit local communities, land and especially the people who farm them (B.Wyland, Personal Communication, 1, March, 2005). The word Organic itself describes a way of growing food. It's a form of agriculture that arose in the last century in response to the increasing use of synthetic and often toxic chemicals to grow food. The National Organic Standards Board (NOSB), a governmental advisory panel to the National Organic Program, wrote this condensed definition of organic farming in Get more content on HelpWriting.net

In researching the increasingly pressing issue of food sustainability in global food service it was discovered that implementations are initially expensive and require large amounts of dedication but are ultimately huge factors in increasing brand loyalty and recognition and gaining popularity within the "green" market segment. Additionally, on a socio–cultural level, many consumers feel that restaurants partaking in green initiatives and operations are doing their part to not only help sustain the earth but also to conserving natural resources (Hu, Parsa & Self, 2010). "Going green" is not simply a trend in the food service industry but around the world and in all forms of business. Corporate companies consider "going green" as a sensible business strategy in building recognition for corporate social responsibility among consumers concerned with environmental conservation efforts. Lastly, technological initiatives such as Energy Star appliances (dishwashers, refrigerators, ice machines, etc.) and faucets that use less water must also be analyzed in their ecological conservation capability and weighed against their financial costs (University of Notre Dame, 2014). "Reduce, reuse, and recycle" is a motto that pioneered environmental programs in schools, and public announcements. This motto also holds true in the food service industry. Following the trend to "go green" means implementing this motto into restaurant operations. This includes procedural changes that aim to reduce the amount of resources used, attempting to reuse resources, and recycling those that cannot be reused. These guidelines are based on your weight; for example a person who weighs 100 lbs. would need less carbs than a person who weighs 200 lbs. It is also based on your level of physical activity, height, and age. The daily intake (DI) you see on various foods is based on an average adult's daily requirement of 8700kJ. Food is one of the primary necessities of humans and also plays a vital role in maintaining good health. People work hard to eat; it does not matter if it is healthy or not, but healthy eating prevents a variety of health problems. For some people eating is an option, but for others they live to eat. People enjoy cooking their own meals; it gives us peace of mind, satisfaction, and a guarantee of cleanliness. People deal with food every day, and food has been a part of life since the beginning of civilization. What we eat becomes our diet, and our diet plays a major role in deciding how healthy we are and how well our body functions. Without proper diet, our body cannot carry out the functions it needs to perform. Most people have some common knowledge on what is good and what is bad for the human body to consume. Fruits, vegetables, nuts, and grains are some common items people think of when they think of healthy foods. Obesity can be related to eighty percent of type two diabetes, seventy percent of cardiovascular disease, thirty percent to gall bladder surgeries, and forty two percent to breast and colon cancer. Unfortunately, obesity rates in people are rising rapidly. The United States alone had an obesity rate of twenty six percent in 2007. Some cases of obesity are gene related, but most other cases are a result of improper dieting and exercise among the individual ("Why Is Proper Nutrition Important?", Case Western Reserve University). Type II diabetes is another major effect from improper diet and nutrition. When someone is a type II diabetic, their body either produces too little of an amount of insulin, or their body's cells ignore the insulin. Insulin is important in helping your body use sugar for Kavanaugh 3 energy. When a person consumes food with sugar, the sugar is broken down into glucose. • 12. Persuasive Essay About Food Bank Food banks are a terrible solution to a terrible issue. Hunger is one of the biggest issues the human race experiences. One in nine people in the world, or 795 million people, out of the 7.4 billion people go hungry every day because they do not have enough to eat. Every 10 seconds, a child dies from hunger–related diseases (The Hunger Project, 2017). The way lots of organizations try to help these people in need are through food banks. A foodbank is a non–profit, charitable organization that distributes to those who have difficulty purchasing enough food to avoid hunger. Food banks are inefficient in aspects of time, money, and effort because so much more can be done through donations of money, not non–perishable foods and items....show more content... Another issue arises though, it needs to be transported from the warehouse to the appropriate drop–off place, which is most likely in a high–density residential area, not an industrial area. The time it takes for all this to happen is simply too much and non–efficient. We are in an era where time is valuable. Everyone is so busy with their lives, be it for work, school, family, or hobbies, it is unnecessary to spend all this time just to donate something that not even the buyer would eat. To show an example, let's say a donator's name is David. David works a 9–5 job which pays $20 per hour and has three kids, two of which have swimming practice after school. David picks up his kids at 5:30, and goes home right in time for dinner. On his dinner table, he has high quality foods that are packed with nutrients. David remembers there's a food drive raffle near his workplace that is looking for donations for a chance to win a grand prize. David now has to go out of his way to go to a grocery store to buy non–perishable foods. Instead of wasting his time going, he can go to the food bank and simply donate money. If David was planning on spending $5 and 45 minutes for the whole process, from purchasing the items to dropping them off, he actually spent $20 plus a few extra dollars for gas. Instead of wasting 45 minutes of his time to get $5 worth of food, he could easily have donated $25, which go a long way. This will be explained later, but Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Food And Its Impact On Society Everyone on earth needs food to sustain themselves, but have we ever thought to consider what we put in our mouths? Foods have changed greatly as humans continue to advance technologically. The greatest change of food however comes from society. The foods that we eat and create are influenced greatly by societies behaviors and habits. Foods in a culture sometimes represent a society itself. These habits vary from around the world. The easiest and most efficient way for a society to sustain itself is to produce its own food. As nomadic societies grew larger they were forced to settle and become somewhat of a agricultural society to sustain their larger population. The crops that were produced varied around the world but as the world became more technologically advanced foods could be anywhere at any time we wanted. As populations rise people had to find a way to produce a great deal of food in a short amount of time. Back then it was simple because there were not many mouths to feed. The people of today are concerned about the health issues of food ever since it was industrialized. According to Texas A and M university the meat inspection act was made for, " Detection and Destruction of diseased meat and /or contaminated meat." These laws and acts came in place for concern of the people. Even today there is controversy with genetically grown foods. There are major benefits to genetically grown crops such as growing crops fast but there are also concerns. According to Get more content on HelpWriting.net

We generally try to make one new recipe each week. I am not a very picky eater, however, there are some foods that I do not enjoy at all, such as asparagus, mushrooms, and brussels sprouts. Most people sit down and have three larger meals a day along with some snacks. I don't eat very much at one time. Generally, I will eat two eggs in the morning, half a sandwich for lunch with salad or another side, and for dinner I will have a regular sized portion of whatever we decide to cook that night. I do enjoy snacking on little things like crackers throughout the day as well. My eating habits revolve around a busy schedule; I am a full time student and I have two jobs. So, I spend a lot of time eating in my car or at work. I work with a little boy who is non–verbal and has autism. He is quite a handful; whenever I am with him I need something I can eat quickly such as a sandwich, piece of fruit, or a protein bar. I generally try to eat fairly healthy when I can, which is often hard being so busy and not having a lot of money. To go back to where my eating habits all started. I love trying new foods with exotic flavors and unique recipes, but I fear the reaction that by body will force on me. I have recently been diagnosed with a condition known as dyspepsia. This essentially means my stomach does not enjoy food as much as my mouth does. With each meal, I face the possibility of becoming nauseous after eating. As a result, I tend to avoid large portions, greasy, or overly sweet foods. Although, every now and then, I push my fears of food aside and fully indulge myself in spectacular meals. It happens anywhere food has a presence; the grocery store, restaurants, in our homes, at schools, on farms, in production and even in transportation. We aren't realizing how much it affects each of us. Have you ever taken the time to stop and think about it? Thinking about it, I realize that every day I throw something away that could be saved and eaten later. When I take the trash out there are a number of food items that don't need to be there. After we finish dinner I am wiping food off of plates and realizing that I've made too much. • 17. Essay about Food Miles Food Miles A food mile is the distance food travels from the farm to the store where you buy it, and these miles are costly to the environment. They are among the fastest–growing sources of greenhouse gas emissions worldwide. The concept of food miles started in the early 1990's in the United Kingdom .The more the food miles that are attached to a particular food, the less sustainable and the less environmentally the food is desired. Professor Tim Lang at the Sustainable Agriculture Food and Environment (SAFE) was the person behind conceiving the food miles, which appeared in a report 'The food miles report'. The report consisted of the highlights of the hidden ecological, social and economic consequences of food production to consumers...show more content... It has been stated that if people suggested buying food originating from within a 20km radius from our locality, the country would save over two billion pounds in congestion and environmental costs. Food grown locally is more environmentally friendly. The reason usually given for this is that imported food e.g. New Zealand lamb, require a lot of fossil fuels and produce a lot of carbon emission to get it to the market. Locally grown food, require less fossil fuel and therefore put out less carbon emissions and is better on a global scale. The media have surfaced a huge image regarding the New Zealand apples that are transported to the UK .The issue is how the produce is carried by air. Air transport is a very high producer of greenhouse gases and the concept of produce being flown from one side of the world to the other is repellent to many environmentally aware people. However, products like the New Zealand lamb going to the UK are not transported by air, but are freighted by ship, which uses less fossil fuel and has less emission per kg of produce. The amount of fossil fuel used to import produce pales beside the amount of fossil fuel consumed taking the produce from the point of entry into the country to the depot, to the supermarket and then to the consumer's home. In conclusion food miles does not take into account the wider economic benefits that trade provides to Get more content on HelpWriting.net

My mom says that they're a classic in every Jewish household, but she might remember it that way because cottage cheese is another food group for my Bubbie. There's no telling how much my mom and her siblings must have ate it. But it started a family food tradition, one that my mother put a healthy twist on, as usual: one day, she served the dish with chunks of avocado. I remember my twin brother, Jordan, bringing the bowl right in front of his face and chowing down on the new variation of the dish, unfazed for once to try this new thing. "What's that green stuff?" I asked my mom as she piled some noodles onto my dad's plate. I tried a piece of the mysterious substance, skewering it on my fork, and recoiling at the creamy, earthy taste. • 20. Reflective Essay About Food Food brings everyone together no matter what culture you are in. Culture is a way of life shared by a group of people, beliefs, customs, symbols and etc. Many families can spend time with each other by preparing and eating dinner at the table, going out for dinner or just celebrating holidays. In my family, when we eat at the dinner table, we talk about our day and build better bonds through our interactions. My mother cooks the meal, my sisters and I set up the table with utensils and place mats and my father is ready to eat. We all sit at the table, no technology, elbows off the table and we give grace. While we eat, we talk about our day or anything exciting has happened and we argue and laugh with each other. Being in my family, we have made many traditions that have been part of my culture since I was a kid. Going to Disneyland is one of the traditions we have. The entire family would go come to have a good time with each other. Since we were a big family, it would be too expensive to buyfood for everyone so we make sandwiches. Everyone would contribute to bring food, my parents would bring bread, my uncles would bring the meats and veggies and my aunts would bring chips and sodas. Being a hispanic family, we would also bring black beans with bread. Since its too much to carry, we would meet up at the cars in the parking structure and eat in the cars. The sandwiches weren't just ordinary sandwiches, the bread which call " pan frances" basically french bread. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
