Ladies First
1. Kieran Morris
Poster Analysis:
Ladies First:
Film Title:The title ‘Ladies First’ is
written in capital letters and a white font
in order to stand out to the audience in
comparison to the dark, floral colours
used throughout the rest of the poster.
The term ‘Ladies’ connotes wealth and
royalty and also suggests the character
is extremely feminine. Meanwhile, the
term ‘first’ implies that the male
character will always think about the
female characters needs during the film,
and therefore the plot will link to the
theme of love. This has been used to
portray the film’s genre as romance.
Background and Colour Scheme:
The poster uses dark floral colours,
including purple which portrays a sense
of royalty and devotion between the
couple. A naturalistic country setting
with a dark, background suggests that
the film’s narrative will be dark and
possibly depressing for the audience.
Actors Names:
The actor’s names are placed at the top of
the poster to inform the audience of who
the protagonist characters are portrayed
by. However, these actors aren’t well-
known and therefore do not have much
importance in the promotion of the short
film.
Characters: The characters positioning on
the film poster whereby they are gazing into
each other’s eyes suggests that they have a
strong, passionate relationship. The woman is
wearing a purple dress, connoting royalty and
wealth; whilst the male character is wearing
an army uniform, connoting power and
assertiveness. This may imply to the
audience that this film will represent a
traditional heterosexual relationship due to
the mise-en-scene of clothing creating a
historical sense to the short film. The male
character looking down at the female
character may also suggests that he is more
powerful within the relationship due to his
status as a soldier and as a stereotypical
dominant male figure. However, it could be
argued that by holding the hat in his arms, the
soldier is in love with the female character
and has respect for her; linking to the film title
of ‘Ladies First.’
Production Company: Whilst the
production company logo can play a mass
part in film promotion, Blue Cedar Films isn’t
a well-known production company and will
therefore not attract a mass audience to
watch the short film. Despite this, they have
begun to expand their presence on social
media and are becoming more popular in
the UK.
Social Networking: The production companies
Facebook and Twitter links feature at the bottom
left of the poster. The company is not well-known
and therefore is promoting social media to
increase its audience.
