2. Production Design
Plot:
Years ago, in a Christian village, girls were burned at the stake for believing in the devil. They took their
possessions and placed them in a box in an abandoned house, which was cursed by the evil. The girls who
were burned were not believers but girls who tried to warn the villages of evil. The devil would entice
them with sweet music, to get them to open the box so hell could be unleashed and the only way to stop
the terror on the town would be to sacrifice the one who opened it. Years later, a girl runs from school into
the woods where the house resides as she gets bullied and comes across the box. In curiosity she opens it
and history repeats itself bringing every ones worst fears to life with a vengeance. The girl goes on a quest
to find out how to stop the force of evil and realises the only way is through the sacrifice of the one who
opened it- herself.
Process: First the outside scene of her lying down on the ground will be shot. For this the dress
and fake blood will be needed and the lighting source will be the natural light of the sun.
Secondly, the box scene will shot where all props but no actor will be needed as the shot being
used is a POV Shot. The sequence will end with a black out and the titles will be shown
during the second part of the opening sequence.
3. Lighting
The lighting we used was at a minimum as the lighting we needed was either
natural light or light by candle.
Natural Light Source: The Sun
This was used in a scene where the main protagonist is covered in blood and lying
in a serene place where she felt safest. The natural light was used to highlight her
innocence and serenity in a situation which is much too big for her.
Natural Light Source: Fire via Candles
This was used to help create a scene which was intended to be pre -prepared and
set up for someone to discover. This place was supposed to put people on edge and
create an eerie atmosphere which insinuates a presence of evil. Candlelight worked
best for this as its a natural source of light which is being used to highlight the
hidden secrets discretely hidden through sources on the display.
4. Props & Costume
Props: The props used were a box, ancient
scripts, incense, candles, bottles, glass goblets, dead
flowers, candle holders, a cross and mirrors. All these objects
connote a feel of sacrifice, a ceremony and evil. This is the
exact atmosphere that we wanted create.
Costume: The costume used was a white, old fashioned night
dress. These connoted the prehistoric legends of witches, the
devil and sacrifice that have been kept alive today differently.
Make- Up: Fake blood which emphasised the pain and terror she
has had to go through to save the village and herself.
5. Actors
In the opening sequence only one actress is used to try and not
give too much away about the story.
The girl used is pale with long dark brown hair and average
height. She was chosen to apply emphasis on the theme of
innocence throughout the sequence.
She is told to use no dialogue during the opening sequence as it
adds to the enigma that the other parts of the mise en scene
has helped to create.
