either commission based work, personal original characters, and portrait drawing
practice.

12. Costume Design, Pericles 2020
Concept was to be a high fantasy
production of Pericles inspired by
tarot readings. Each character was
based on a specific tarot card. The
world of the play was a fantasy
folktale told through tarot
symbology and themes of circles.
This was a show set to be
performed by Southern
Oregon University in the
spring of 2020. Directed by
David McCandless and
costume designed by myself.
The production was cancelled
due to COVID-19, but a lot of
the work had already been
started.
Narrator, The Hermit
13. The protagonist Pericles goes through a journey that evolves him as a person, so he goes through three different tarots in
his lifetime – Strength, The Chariot, and 4 of Swords. He goes from being a young adventuring prince, to a washed away
warrior, and ends as a wizened man of spirit.
14. The protagonists daughter, Marina, goes through a journey o her own that mirrors her father’s. However, she stays true
to herself and to her own tarot – The Sun. She goes from being a daughter raised by Cleon and Dionyza, to captured and
sold as a prostitute, to reclaiming her status and power with more freedom of her own.
15. Pericle’s wife and mother of Marina,
Thaisa – Death. From Pentapolis where
the costuming most closely resembles
medieval europe, true fairytale shapes.
Cerimon, the priestess of the goddess Diana who
brings Thaisa back to life – Temperance. This
drawn style is pat of the redraws I was doing to
refine their presentation, but I only got to a few as
I stopped when the play was cancelled.
The goddess Diana – The Moon. We
went with the moon side of the
goddess as opposed to the huntress,
to symbolize childbirth and purity.
16. Helicanus – the Emperor. Trusted
advisor to Pericles,wears the
warm colors and fabrics of Tyre.
Cleon – The Fool. King of Tarsus,
location marked by earthy colors and
light wrap styles.
Dionyza, governess of Tarsus –
King of Wands. More extravagant
than husband as she is primary
voice.
17. Simonides – 2 of Cups. Force that
brings protagonist and true love
together. He has jolly coloring
and feels like a storybook king.
Antiochus – King of Swords.
Antagonistic. Coloring to resemble
heavy metles of Antioch and
blood.
Princess – The Tower. She is the
eye-catching opener of the play,
clad in silvers and golds to
represent her as a treasure to be
obtained. Enters with a very long
18. Costume Design, Small Mouth Sounds - 2019
This show was performed by Southern Oregon University in 2019 directed by Jackie Apodaca and
costume designed by myself.
The show was set in a modern day health resort where the characters did not speak as a form of
therapy. The costumes told a story of layers; each character had an amount of layers based on how
many problems they needed to resolve and work through.
19. Ned, played by Grant Luecke. A hiker
who hides a terrible head scar under
his hat. Has perhaps the most spoken
lines of the play, and really only one
issue to resolve. He is a warm
inviting brown palatte, suitable for
outdoor activity, and one base layer
to remove.
20. Rodney, played by Torrin Kelly. The
only character with no real issues;
here to get in touch with personal
spirit. He is the flirtatious character
free in his sexuality. We gave him a
soft but airy outfit to show his open
and active personality. He wore a
necklace pendant of the Celtic symbol
for fertility.
21. Alicia, played by Alyssa Matthews.
This character had the most
growing to do of the bunch, and
was the most confused at first. Had
the most amount of layers and
clothing that would make noise
and draw attention in the quiet
atmosphere (the jacket texture,
hard heels, jangly bracelets).
Became quieter and less layered as
the show progressed and the
character went through growth.
22. Jan, played by Jake Raiter. This
character is a foreginer from
Germany who did not speak English,
but this is not revealed until the end
of the play. A simple religious man,
with a quiet color palette and a
hidden roserie under his shirt. His
costume was to give the impression
of oddity, that there was something
not quite normal about him but not
immediately off-putting (the shoes
with the toes, the way he wore a
button up).
23. Judy, played by Hannah Fawcett. She is a
business woman dragged here by her
partner Joan. She loves lululemon, so
her outfit resembled that kind of
activewear. Black and white to resemble
her world outlook.
24. Joan, played by Katie Herling. This
character was to come to the
outdoor resort in the wrong kind of
clothing, some that resembled what
she thought would be appropriate
but was a bit more proper in material
than what someone should have
been wearing. Colorful and vibrant
on the outside to show her lavish
lifestyle but a little more dull
underneath as her problems shine
through.
25. The guru, played by Carlos Zenen-Trujillo. This was an unseen
character in the show, visible only when the actor takes a bow at
the end. He is the primary voice of the show. His outfit resembles a
man who may be more talk than actual walk, who dresses like he is
the holiest man you could meet. Has various religious idols with him
at all times and wears crocs for comfort.
26. Costume Design – Misc. Theoretical Design
Vodkík from Rusalka, inspired by
bioluminescent marine life. Vodkík
resembles an angler fish.
Lucentio from Taming of the Shrew.
Shakesperean era costume
inspiration.
27. Queen Gertrude from Hamlet.
Set in modern day with
Shakesperean inspired shapes.
Koschei from The Firebird. High
fantasy, concept is that he steals souls
from princesses and keeps them in
the gemstone on his chest.
Lady Bracknell, The Importance of
Being Earnest. Victorian England
setting.
29. This mask was inspired by a costume design concept I did for Rusalka,
in which the characters were based on bioluminescent marine life. The
mask was made out of neoprene and painted using uv activated paint.
30. Hat Making
A pork pie hat made from scratch.
Authentic leather was shaped and
sewn, and later stained to achieve
the desired color. This style of hat
was part of a research project on
fashion hats, taking inspiration
from the 1940’s.
31. Tailoring – Suit Making
A wool suit made from raw material for costume construction class. It
was used to build stock, to be available for theatrical shows in the
future. The pieces made were the pants, vest, and suit jacket.
32. Tailoring – Cosplay Construction
These pieces were bought constructed and heavily altered to resemble the character Eskel
from the video game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
