Essay on Bill Gates Biography
Bill Gates Biography
Bill Gates is not only a genius, but also an innovator in education, technology, and philanthropy. A
prodigy, Bill Gates shares an education fact with Abraham Lincoln, Henry Ford, Thomas Edison,
and even his competitor Steve Jobs: no college degree. Instead, he devoted his time to his passion
for technology, going on to create the most profitable technology company in the world. For much
of the past decade, Gates allocated both his profit and attention to philanthropy. Evidence of his
innovation, industry and curiosity can be seen at an early age.
Gates' passion for technology began at the age of 8, when he built his first computer program. This
program allowed the player to compete in a game of tic tac toe ... Show more content on

By the time Bill Gates dies, he will have given away 90% of his wealth. He created the Bill and
Melinda Gates Foundation with his wife in 1997. So far, he has donated 28 billion dollars to
philanthropic causes that include: better health care, vaccines, school grants, education. To date, the
Foundation saved over one million lives with vaccines and better health care alone! In 2002, Bill
and Melinda were named the most generous philanthropists in the world.
Bill founded several schools based on hands–on knowledge and technology. He also has given many
Ted talks on education and constantly strives to make the public school system more effective and
innovative. The Bill and Melinda Foundation has made large strides in education and offers billions
of dollars in grants for schools across the US. In fact, my past school, Da Vinci Innovation
Academy, earned a million dollar grant from this generous foundation to provide one of the first
hybrid homeschool–project based learning school. Bill not only helps the students in these lucky
schools, he also supports the teachers through increased awareness about the lack of feedback and
compensation teachers receive. His Ted talks on education inspire others to join in educational
reform.

The Greatest Entrepreneur of all time is Bill Gates. William (Bill) Henry Gates was born on October
28, 1955, in Seattle, Washington to parents William and Mary (Maxwell) Gates. Most known for his
title of Chairman and CEO of Microsoft Corporation, the World's Largest Computer Company, it
became evident that Gates was a risk–taker early on in his life as his favourite games were "Risk"
and "Monopoly". Gates also had the advantage of starting young as he first learned to program
computers in grade eight. Fast–forwarding a few years, Gates graduated from Lakeside in 1973,
scoring a 1590 out of 1600 on the college SAT test, an accomplishment that few were able to

Microsoft then launched Windows in 1985. A year later, Gate became the youngest billionaire ever,
at the age of 31. That impressive title was followed by another as Gates was named the richest man
in the world at the age of 39. Due to his vision for his company, his strong determination and his
incredible motivation to get to the top, Gates was able to achieve success far beyond anyone would
have expected. Gates had created a multi–billion dollar company, in 25 years. Many people believe
that some of the possible reasons for his success include the fact that he valued his work, and he was
never afraid to ask for money. He was also able to recognize the best employees for his business,
and he rarely stopped to rest. Then, on January 1, 1994, Gates married one of his workers, Melinda
French. He and Melinda had two daughters – Jennifer and Phoebe, as well as a son named Rory. In
1994, Bill and Melinda created a foundation called the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which was

People take for granted how far technology has come in the past 40 years. Back then, computers
weren't seen as a consumer product, only as a high end company's tool for completing complicated
equations or automating systems. Bill Gates was the man who headed the shift in software
development that led to a lot of the technology we have today. Most people probably already know
Bill Gates as the richest man in the world but what is more interesting is the story behind his
fortune. Bill Gates is considered one of the most influential people in technology because of his
breakthrough innovations in personal computers and generous philanthropy. Bill Gates started

Gates was approached by IBM with an offer to buy out their company. "IBM wanted to buy the
source code, which would have given them the information to the operating system. Gates refused,
instead proposing that IBM pay a licensing fee for copies of the software sold with their computers."
(Biography.com Editors) This was an unheard of strategy at the time and critics thought it was
unlikely Gates would turn a profit with this strategy. Luckily Gates's risk paid off. "The
microcomputer industry greatly increased when Microsoft licensed MS–DOS to IBM."
(Biography.com Editors) Although IBM helped a lot getting Microsoft started the company
eventually grew to overshadow IBM and left them. Microsoft was getting a cut from every computer
IBM sold that was running MS–DOS which gave them the opportunity to move out of their
makeshift office and expand the company. During this time, Apple was also seeing huge success
with their "Mac OS" and Gates, being the savvy businessman he is, wanted to see where the
industry was headed. Gates met with Steve Jobs, the CEO of Apple Computers, to discuss working
on Mac OS with them. At first Jobs adamant to keep the OS a secret from competition, but he knew

Bill Gates is known to be the richest man in America, and also the creator of Microsoft. But what
some don't know is that Bill Gates had some challenges along the way to where he is now.

proclaiming that they had a program that could run the Altair computer. In reality they didn't have
the Altair, and never had they coded for such a machine in their lives. Wanting to know if MITS was
interested in someone developing such software. MITS was, and their president asked the boys to
demonstrate their program to them. In two months of scrambling inside of Harvard's computer lab,
they finished the program, never having tested it before on an Altair computer. Untested they gave it
a try and miraculously it worked perfectly. Allen was hired by MITS, and Gates soon left Harvard to
work with him, which Gates's parents didn't approve. In 1975, Allen and Gates created "Micro–
Soft," a blend of "micro–computer" and "software." They got rid of the hyphen in less than a year.
Gates had a bad relationship with MITS president Ed Roberts, and would often end up in shouting
matches between the two. The combative Gates clashed with Roberts on the software department
and the direction the company was headed. Roberts considered that Gates was spoiled and
obnoxious. In 1977, Roberts sold MITS to another company and left Gates and Allen on their own.

best subject in grade school was math. At the time when Bill was growing up, there weren't home
computers like the PC, the laptop, or the tablet like we have today. Computers were owned by large
companies and took up lots of space. The first computer program he wrote was a version of tic–tac–
toe while using the computer at his school. At one point, Bill and some of his fellow students were
banned from using the computer because they hacked it to get extra computing time. They then
agreed to look for bugs in the computer system in return for computer time.

I am writing a biography on the life of Bill Gates, the reason I am doing this is because I had too,
most importantly why I'm writing this is to talk about his success and how he did it. My goal in this

Bill Gates was born on October 28, 1955, in Seattle, Washington. Gates began to show interest in
computers at the age of 13 at the Lakeside Private School. He pursued his passion thought college.
Going out on his own with his friend and business partner Paul Allen, Gates found himself at the
right place at the right time. While technology was advancing, he built the world's largest software
business, Microsoft. While doing so... he became the world's richest man.
Gates grew up in an upper middle–class family, he had two sisters (Kristianne, who is older, and
Libby who is younger). His father, William H. Gates, was a law student when he met his future wife,
Mary Maxwell. She was athletic, outgoing and she studied at the University of Washington. Their

a concern to his parents. Taking action, they decided to enroll their son into an elite prep school,
Lakeside School. Bill exceeded expectations by excelling in all his classes almost immediately, with
his favorites being in math and science. As all children enrolled at Lakeside were provided with
personal computers, Bill showed his skills by developing a simple Tic–Tac–Toe program for

childhood because by the age of seven he had read the entire encyclopedia. This shows Gate's thirst
for knowledge even at an early age. Bill Gates was raised by a family that allowed him to pursue his

He began programming the GE system in BASIC, a specific computer language. He then started

For people in my own age group, our oldest memories of computers are most likely the pinball game
on Windows XP, and Google's website showing a different font. A little earlier than that, documents
were saved on floppy disks instead of USB drives, and before that, network connections were made
over a phone line. However, it is hard for anyone to imagine a time when having "'a computer on
every desk and in every home'" was regarded as an impossibility, even if they remember those years
(Academy of Achievement). The personal computer has evolved into an essential tool in the daily
lives of most Americans, because of the wave of innovations that Bill Gates kicked off in 1975. Bill
Gates was raised as a fierce competitor, which he demonstrated at a young age when waterskiing or
playing tennis with his family. However, he was even more intense when he went up against
intellectual challenges, which his parents found out soon after enrolling him in the Lakeside School.
In 1967, a terminal was set up in the Seattle private school, which could use the resources of an off–
site computer for the duration of a paid session, and Gates was immediately hooked. Along with
Paul Allen, he learned the programming language, BASIC, which was in use at the time, and the two
students took every opportunity for computer time they could get. When Paul Allen reflected on this
time, he noted one key difference between Gates and himself: "'Where I was curious to study

up the priceless entrepreneur spirit within every employee and makes it Microsoft's own.

For much of the past decade, Gates allocated both his profit and attention to philanthropy. Evidence of his innovation, industry and curiosity can be seen at an early age. Gates' passion for technology began at the age of 8, when he built his first computer program. This program allowed the player to compete in a game of tic tac toe ... In fact, my past school, Da Vinci Innovation Academy, earned a million dollar grant from this generous foundation to provide one of the first hybrid homeschool–project based learning school. Bill not only helps the students in these lucky schools, he also supports the teachers through increased awareness about the lack of feedback and compensation teachers receive. His Ted talks on education inspire others to join in educational reform. Bill Gates' influence is widespread. He has led the technological industry of the 20th century. Bill Gates Vs Bill Gates Similarities For people in my own age group, our oldest memories of computers are most likely the pinball game on Windows XP, and Google's website showing a different font. A little earlier than that, documents were saved on floppy disks instead of USB drives, and before that, network connections were made over a phone line. However, it is hard for anyone to imagine a time when having "'a computer on every desk and in every home'" was regarded as an impossibility, even if they remember those years (Academy of Achievement). The personal computer has evolved into an essential tool in the daily lives of most Americans, because of the wave of innovations that Bill Gates kicked off in 1975. Bill Gates was raised as a fierce competitor, which he demonstrated at a young age when waterskiing or playing tennis with his family. However, he was even more intense when he went up against intellectual challenges, which his parents found out soon after enrolling him in the Lakeside School. In 1967, a terminal was set up in the Seattle private school, which could use the resources of an off– site computer for the duration of a paid session, and Gates was immediately hooked. Along with Paul Allen, he learned the programming language, BASIC, which was in use at the time, and the two students took every opportunity for computer time they could get.
