2. Healthy, Active Kids
Kids need a healthy start to life. Primary school is
where they spend many hours of their formative
years and where they learn many of their life lessons.
3. A Rationale
A dedicated sports coordinator in primary schools
could be a solution to the issues.
Healthy active kids become healthy active adults who
are less of a burden on the future health system.
Tinning, R., McCuaig, L. & Hunter, L. (2006) Teaching Health and Physical Education in Australian Schools. Pearson.
4. Dedicated Sports Staff
People with a passion for teaching healthy and active
kids are in the best position to provide quality PDHPE
education in Primary Education.
Many teachers believe PDHPE to be a secondary part
of the curriculum so therefore they do not give it
enough quality time. The appointment of specialised
staff would enable students to gain informed and
passionate education in this Key Learning Area.
5. Outcomes
PDHPE is an important part of the primary education
curriculum and the outcomes far outweigh any
possible opposition to the use of specialised staff to
bring the fun and energy to PDHPE that is required to
make student actively engaged in healthy living
practices.
