2. Q. What are the aims of
PD/H/PE?
A. Personal Development, Health and Physical
education (PD/H/PE) in schools across the
country aim to develop in each student the
knowledge and understanding, skills and
values and attitudes needed to lead healthy,
active and fulfilling lives. By equipping
students with these skills they are able to lead
happy, healthy and productive lives.
3. Q. WHAT IS PD/H/PE?
A. PD/H/PE is one of the six key learning areas
in the NSW primary curriculum. Its
implementation has the potential to contribute
to improved and ongoing quality of life for all
individuals within the community. Activities
taught in our school include sports and fitness,
communication and problem solving skills and
overall health and development.
4. The FOCUS THIS TERM WILL BE
ON…
1. Ways to be active- students will learn through
practice to develop skills for participation in
basic games and activities. These will involve
both physical skills as well as mental
strategies.
2. Communication- students will learn to express
their needs and wants in positive ways. oThey
will also learn where they can go if they need
help and who they can talk to.
5. ALLOCATING TIME TO PD/H/
PE!
The Board of Studies does not currently
prescribe time allocations for PD/H/PE in
primary schools. However the primary years
are an important time for the development of
fundamental movement skills in particular.
With rising obesity rates in Australia,
PD/H/PE IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN
EVER. Parents should be involved in decisions
about the PD/H/PE program to assist teachers
to adjust their programs to accommodate the
perspectives of different groups within our
community.
