PDHPE is important in primary school settings as it contributes to
the development of positive attitudes towards physical activity
and lifelong habits of participation. With this is mind, it is essential
that students experiences in PDHPE are positive as it will
significantly impact their attitudes and practices later in life.
4. Why should PDHPE be apart of the
curriculum?
PDHPE is unique to other areas of the curriculum. PDHPE is
focused on supporting the development of the whole person.
This holistic approach is detrimental for positive health
outcomes in the future.
PDHPE programs in schools contribute to providing
students with knowledge regarding health issues and
assist in presenting skills that encourage healthy and
active lifestyles. For this reason the integration of this KLA
is essential for students learning.
5. My Personal Philosophy
• Students should be given the opportunity to form positive
attitudes about themselves and others. This enables them to
develop and maintain positive relationships, communicate
effectively and to work cooperatively.
• Students should be physically active for at least 20 minutes at
least 3 times a week, this activity must be vigorous for their own
health benefits. Such involvement in regular physical activity is
important for the development and maintenance of optimum
health.
• Students should have emphasis in their learning in relation to
making informed decisions in order to take responsible action
regarding their health.
