Future Plans and Opportunities
Within the next five years of the company, we are putting forth a plan to achieve a catering
department. We want to be able to provide the planning and set up of the events that we offer, as
well as the food for our clients. Our plan is to lease a kitchen facility big enough to house our staff
and store our products while working out of the kitchen. During this five year goal, we plan on
opening a second branch in the Chicago Illinois area, while having our branch in Erie, PA still
running.
Industry Analysis
The events industry is an ever growing part of the hospitality world. There is a bigger need for the
attention to detail than most people will think about, and event planners are trained to think about
these issues. Event planners have to be able to handle budgets that the clients will set for them while
still maintaining a high quality of service. The events industry is an ever–growing business. There is
always something new that people will want and request at their parties. There is a big need for tight
budgets within the economy as well as some weddings that will be very extravagant.
Future Trends
Once our catering department is added to our company, we will start to look at the trends that the
food industry is currently providing. These trends will include things such as healthier options for
courses as well as smaller portions. These small portions will control the amount of food a person is
advised to eat, but we

The Great Flood Of 1889
Also known as the "Great Flood of 1889," the Johnstown flood occurred when a local man–made
dam failed, unleashing millions of gallons of water and causing utter destruction in its wake.
On May 31st, 1889, at around 3:10 p.m., about 14 miles from Johnstown, PA, the South Fork Dam
was overcome by several structural shortcomings and failed. This allowed millions of gallons of
water to surge through the Conemaugh Valley, leaving little in its wake (NPS).
There were a total of 111 days of rainfall within the year preceding the dam's failure. This level of
rainfall was very unusual for the community of Johnstown, let alone the entire state of Pennsylvania.
Just before the dam broke, 6–8 inches of rain had fallen throughout the region, turning ... Show

These changes had disastrous effects on the structure of the dam (ASDSO).
As large amount of rain fell, debris began to collect in the mesh netting, contributing to rising water
levels, as the spillway was blocked (ASDSP).
The lack of an underlying water relief system, as the previous one had not been replaced after the
reconstruction, increased the pressure of the reservoir (ASDSO).
The pressure of the added volume compromised the structure of the dam and it overtopped. The
structure was overcome and the dam burst (ASDSO).
Due to the nature of this dam break, the water traveled at high velocity– estimated at 64 km/hr or
about 40 mph (National Geographic).
The average amount of water discharged was around 318,000 cubic feet per second (JAHA).
The flood killed approximately 2,209 people. This included 396 children and 99 local families
(Begos, 2014).
As many as 750 corpses remained in "river towns downstream" and "Johnstown morgues" awaiting
family identification, which never happened (Begos, 2014).
1,600 homes were lost and whole communities were swept away (Begos, 2014).
Trains were dislodged from their tracks and were swept downstream about 4,000 feet (JFM, 2013).
The flood debris spanned "30

Social Media Addiction
We are certainly no strangers about social media, but do we know everything about it? Social media
are internet based technologies notably created on computer web based sites and mobile apps
platform, that facilitate the creation and sharing of information via virtual networks. Through social
networking we generate contents such as text post, digital photos and even videos. It connects a
user's profile with those of other individuals or groups. Social media has rapidly altered our
traditional understanding of relationships and personal information, making it difficult for users to
fully comprehend the consequences of a world where individuals can be isolated everywhere they
are in a group and where the private is also public. Social networking has turned the world into a
small but global village. Now it's easy to connect with people from all over the world, people from
Far East like China can interact with others from the United States in real time virtually. Platforms
like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and many more are the mean of social networking; however social
media developed an addiction and overuse that caused unwanted distraction from reality and social
life with people. Once it was a healthy escape from life's problem. Now it's a problem to life itself,
at least people life relationships. Social networking once was a great tool to establish and maintain
relationships with friends, family and even strangers sharing similar interests. But unfortunately it
can backfire

Poverty Reflection
For my civic or political participation, I volunteered with CPS's GIV day for a poverty simulation.
This is a half a day on the Friday of orientation week is available to first year's students. The
students are able to learn about civic issues like poverty and how Gettysburg College works with the
issue and community. As a member of Gettysburg College, I have volunteered with CPS in many
capacities and have done the poverty simulation as a first year. I also choose this engagement
because I have volunteered or participated in it every year except when I was abroad. This
opportunity also allowed me to complete five of my required hours for my sorority and service
fraternity. At the end, GIV day I an amazing way to get involved on campus, and be reminds about
key issues that affect the community and world.
First year students will come to the College Union Buildings Ballroom on the Friday of Orientation
with little to no idea what they are going to experience for half of the day. They will be assigned a
discussion table, a community group number, and a poverty simulation table number. The day is spit
up in half, where for the first half of the students will go to the community site and the other will go
through the poverty simulation. After both are done, the group will switch.
The students in the poverty simulation are divided into tables, which becomes families, and their
goal is to survive the four weeks. Surviving includes going to work, if they have a job, buying food,

Pressure And Stereotypes For Girls In The Fashion Industry
The Fashion Industry
Under society's norms for decades, girls have been put under the pressure and expectation to have
perfect bodies. That is, thin and curved, beautified by applying pounds of makeup to their face but
not appear ridiculously overdone. Where do these unreachable standards come from? When a young
girl hears the model on the cover of Vogue being called flawless it's easy for her to then aspire to be
a real–life replica of the photoshop. These companies spit out magazine covers plastered with girls'
idols daily. As if maintaining the perfect body wasn't hard enough our culture also forces girls into
the forever expanding world of makeup, however, body image is a pressing issue for girls. Ads and
posters of skinny female models are everywhere. Young girls not only could be better but need to be
better and feel forced to have the perfect physique. Girls are evaluated and oppressed by their
physical appearances. With accessories and apparel designed to enhance a look; social media,
magazines, and marketing campaigns and advertisements add to the burden of perfection. The
fashion industry is a prime target of body image issues, as they believe clothes look better on tall
and slim women. Based on a survey participated by 13 to 17–year–old in the U.S., 90% "felt
pressured by fashion and media industries to be skinny", with more than 60% habitually compare
themselves to models, while 46% will strive to achieve it. Furthermore, the severity of this matter

Disney Princesses : An Overt Sense Of Self Esteem
Fred Rogers and the Disney princesses have a unique similarity in that they both employ an overt
sense of self–esteem in children, which negatively impacts that child's future. Mr. Rogers, through
his television show, has made kids believe that they are special for just being who they are. A similar
idea is also true regarding Disney princesses, in that the little girls who emulate them believe that
life should be lived as a fairy tale. As children grow up, they are very easily influenced by what their
surroundings, particularly by what they see and hear. With Mr. Rogers being the main character on
an educational children's TV program and the "princess" message being promoted everywhere you
look, it is very simple for children to latch onto these people/characters. All of these individuals
seem to allow the child to believe that they are at the center of the world. This may be nothing to
yearn over if it is seen in a young child, but as the child grows up there are various factors that may
be worrisome. Self–esteem, empowerment, and entitlement are three ideals that could be influenced
negatively as the child develops into a young adult. Once again, on the surface it may seem that Mr.
Rogers and the Disney princesses are very positive role models for the youth of our country, but it is
evident that there are aspects of their teaching/culture that are not all that good for an easily
influenced, developing child. Mister Rogers' Neighborhood was an educational

Milton Hershey 's Positive Impact On Society
Despite what some may think, it is proven that Milton Hershey had a positive impact on his
community and the world in a various of ways. For example, he built the Milton Hershey school to
benefit underprivileged youth. In fact, this school is still in operation today and was originally
opened on November 15, 1909. Another way Hershey impacted the lives of many was through the
building of Hersheypark. This amusement park was established in 1907 and, like the school, is still
in operation today. On the other hand Hershey's Chocolate also left a huge impact on the entire
nation and the world and continues to be successful today. Evidently, his chocolate was innovating
at the time because it allowed more people to be able to afford chocolate, not just the wealthy.
Furthermore Milton Hershey's legacy would later impact the lives of a great deal of individuals in a
positive manner. If Milton Hershey had not lived, many youth and various families would not have
the opportunities that for a better life and pleasure.
In 1903, even before the chocolate factory was completed, Milton Hershey set aside a place for a
park to be built for his employee's for picnics and family outings. That is because Hershey wanted to
build a park as a pleasant environment for his workers and their families. Later, the space was used
to build Hershey Park. Construction on the park began in 1905 when a dance hall was built, and then
a theater in 1906. However, the park was not opened until April

The Negative Impact Of Social Media And Politics
Social media has caused an uproar in recent times. Political figures such as President Trump, have
used social media to embarrass himself and the country, countless people lose jobs everyday due to
posts on social media, and Kids are influenced into making bad decisions because of trends. One of
the major key events in all of this is the development of "Facebook". Facebook was one of the very
first platforms that allowed everyone to access it, ever since then, our modern lifestyle has been in a
decline. Social media is a common tool in modern life, however, it has caused many problems,
including a corruption in our political system, damaging careers, and having a negative impact on
children. With social media having such a value to society today, it is crucial to correct these errors
in social media.
Politics is one area where social media can change the entire country. When social media was
introduced in a political candidate, it turned the voting system into a game, as shown by the article
Social Media and Politics "As easy as it is for politicians to reach out to voters on sites like
Facebook, it is even easier for these online supporters to abandon politicians when the campaign
ends"(Social Media and Politics). By this, the author is stating that people who are influenced to
vote by social media are likely to stop their support of the candidate after they win. This means that
voters no longer care about the long term effect of a vote, after they vote they lose interest.

The company gains profit tremendously by selling their products worldwide. Besides that, the
company also sell their products online through their official website. This has made their financial
status stable throughout the years. As a result, the company's business grew successfully and was
forced to open more branches. Thrus, more factories were opened to produce more quality Hershey's
products (Mattern J., 2015). Other than that, the company increased the price for the ingredients
including cocoa products, dairy products, sugar and so on due to the currency exchange rates as it is
increasing in an alarming rate. However, Hershey's Company also encounter some effects that affect
their financial status. The price for Hershey's products may not be sufficient to maintain its
profitability as the price of everything is increasing day by day. The company may decrease the
product size and increase the price of the product. However, this may result in a decrease amount of
sales volume. Furthermore, the increasing of competitors will result in decreasing profit in the
industry. Some competitors have better marketing strategy and large firms. This has cause Hershey's
Company to produce more advertisements and promotions to attract new customers. Besides that,
the company needs to produce new and innovative products that are able to keep existing customers
attracted. As for technological status, Hershey's Company are using high–tech machines to produce

The Light In the Forest Essay
It is the fall of 1764, and the relations between white settlers of western Pennsylvania and Indians of
the Ohio area are strained. Nevertheless, the ambitious white Colonel Bouquet and his troop of
1,500 men march into Indian country and demand the return of whites who have been kidnapped by
the Delaware Indians. True Son, a fifteen–year–old white boy who has been raised by Indians since
the age of four, is one of the white prisoners who is going to be returned. True Son loves his Indian
way of life and considers himself to be Indian; he has been raised to view whites as enemies and
cannot imagine living with them. But although the Indians love their adopted white relatives, they
agree to give them back so that they will be able to keep ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To True Son, white civilization seems like a prison compared to the free and natural world of the
Indians. Del, however, sees the stone houses and fences as symbols of the superior white culture.
When True Son is introduced to his white father, Harry Butler, he is repulsed by him and states that
the man is not his father. In order to help translate for the Butlers and protect them from the
potentially violent True Son, Del stays with the Butlers for a little while after True Son's return.
True Son, Del, and Harry Butler travel back to Paxton township where True Son meets more of his
family: his mother, Myra, who is sickly; his younger brother, Gordie; and his Aunt Kate. Myra tries
to get True Son to communicate with her and say his real name, John Cameron Butler, but True Son
is stubborn and refuses to acknowledge that the Butlers are his real family. The only person who
does not see True Son's Indian ways as strange and upsetting is Gordie, and a relationship begins to
form between the two boys. True Son cannot sleep the night of his return because he remembers the
story his Indian father told him about the "Paxton boys," a group of white settlers who
brutally murdered some peaceful Conestoga Indians. The next day True Son meets more of his
relatives, including his Uncle Wilse, who was a leader of the Paxton boys.

College Comparison: The Juris Doctor degree
College can be a pretty intimidating change. It is an entirely new lifestyle. You have to do
everything on your own, without any help from parents or guardians. So, when you choose a
college, it should be the perfect fit for you. I'm planning on researching two different colleges–
Duquesne University and Temple University. When choosing my future college, I will think about
the majors they offer, the location that they are in, and the extracurricular options that the university
provides.
Colleges can have an abundance of majors, but they may not acquire the major or field that you are
interested in entering. Both of the colleges that I am investigating have similar majors that I am
interested in. Temple University has a major for Entertainment Law (Temple University Degree
Programs). "Entertainment law or media law is a term for a mix of more traditional categories of
law with a focus on providing legal services to the entertainment industry" (Entertainment Law).
However, Duquesne University offers a JD (Juris Doctor)/ Master of Arts in Philosophy (Duquesne
University). "The Juris Doctor degree is the first, professional law degree offered by law schools in
the United States. Successful completion of the J.D. degree allows a graduate to sit for a state's bar
exam, leading to a license to practice law" (University of the PACIFIC). I would enjoy a major for
entertainment law because I am an entertainer and I enjoy every aspect of entertaining. The

Canal Building before 1840 Essay
Canal Building before 1840: Essay
Throughout history, there has been a need for better mode of transportation in order to keep up with
economical growth. Canals have been around since the Ancient Roman Civilizations and still exist
today. Canals have been so important because they allow people to travel from one place to another
and back by way of water. They require very little energy and maintenance but help trade flow more
efficiently. This can be proved by observing the United States economy in the early 19th century.
The canal Era was a major influence in American History. Canal building was spurred by the
transportation revolution, which was from about 1815 to 1860. The transportation revolution greatly

It had paid off its seven–million dollar debt by 1836. It made New York the biggest trade center in
the United States. Canal construction was being planned in every state east of the Mississippi River.
I have found a couple major interpretations of my subject. One of them is a book titled The
Transportation Frontier. This book contains everything there is to know about the Canal Era. It also
talks about how our major mode of transportation went from turnpikes to canals, and later, canals to
steamboats and railroads. One thing that this source talks about that very few do is the other canals
that were built after the Erie Canal as a result of its success. These canals include the Champlain
canal, the Union Canal, the Ohio Canal, the Pennsylvania Canal, and many more.
I feel that my topic was fine as far as restrictions go. I do think though that it should have been
limited to the Erie Canal only because that was by far the most important canal of the era. All of the
sources I found have contained the Erie Canal.
One thing wrong with my topic is that it is limited to canals before 1840. It should have been canal
building before 1860 since that is about when the Canal Era ended.
Another topic should have been the transportation revolution from 1815 to 1860. This would include
all of the canals built and it would also contain how road and bridge building would move onto
canal building. And it

Fascinated Trey looked around finding himself alone. Looking at his watch he discovered it was

What Was The Erie Canal
How the Erie Canal Opened the Door to the Western Frontier After the American Revolution,
people's thoughts turned to the American West. But while the thought of going west was in a lot of
people's minds, so were thoughts of the restrictions making the move almost impossible. The trip to
the west was filled with mountains, forests, rivers and even a few waterfalls. How was this
transportation of people and goods to take place?
Before the Transcontinental Railway, interstate highways and airplanes changed the shape of our
country, there was the New York State Erie Canal system. Although the idea of a canal was
perceived in the late 1700's, it wasn't until the 1790's that locks and canals on the Mohawk River
allowed for boat travel from Schenectady to Oswego and to Seneca Lake in the Finger lakes region
of New York. One canal of great significance was the Erie Canal. ... Show more content on

perseverance of Clinton, the Erie Canal became a successful engineering project. New York's terrain

cliffs and included eighty–three locks. These locks were structures used to equalize water levels

When the Canal was built towns all along the route from Buffalo to Albany prospered from the
revenue and the attraction the Canal brought with it. Whether the Canal was being used for business
people, immigrants, settlers of the region, or tourists, the border–towns all had some appeal to these
persons. After some time the state was continually asked to expand the Canal from the original route
to include connecting canal routes. However, the same towns along the route from Buffalo to
Albany had already been established along the lines of the original canal. These towns would need
to be relocated in order to obey these new requests. This presented a major problem because the
people in these towns had formed a life around the Canal and many of them made their income
based of the Canal. The inhabitants of the towns changed their mentality from not wanting the Canal
to invade on their lives, to it being an essential part of their lives they depended upon. The Erie
Canal provided an extremely fast source of transportation compared to other ones of that time. A lot
of the land that the Canal went through was uninhabited and therefore people weren't able to move
through these areas. Once the Canal was built it served as that pathway through these areas. The
Canal also was a much cheaper source of transportation that was used by residents, tourists,
emigrants, and workers during this time. Evangelical preachers used the artificial

The Transition Between High School And College
All children become an adult at some point in their lives. The transition between high school and
college exemplifies this transition. Yet few of these students feel prepared for the challenge that is
adult life. After living with their parents for 17–18 years, the move away from home and getting
saddled with a plethora of responsibilities can be jolting. William Allen has many graduation
requirements, but an Independent Living class is not one of them. This needs to change. High
School ought to prepare students for the everyday aspect of college and life after school, not just the
academic aspect of college. The graduation requirements of the Allentown School district include 4
years of English, 3 years of math and science, and 2 years of foreign language (PROGRAM OF
STUDIES 2015–2016 William Allen High School Louis E. Dieruff High School, 7). It does not
include any sort of class designed to help students learn important life techniques. School is
designed to prepare us for college and the difficult transition between high school and college. But
the way our high school curriculum is designed it only prepares us for the academic aspect of
college, and without regard to people who may choose to take a gap year or not go to college. When
going to college, students may worry about the dorms. They must adjust to college lifestyle and
making new friends. The additional stress of being suddenly ladled with a plethora of
responsibilities on top of this stress can be daunting.

The Importance Of Social Media And Social Relationships
Recent times have shown an exponential growth in terms of innovation and technology. Because of
this it is vital that we examine the importance of social media in the way we maintain and create
relationships, and how that has affected how happy we are. In this paper I will be arguing that the
use of technology is necessary in order to sufficiently maintain and create better relationships which
increase our overall level of happiness. Relationships are the key to our happiness. According to
psychologist Alt Markman, our relationships help create a sense of belonging which increases our
overall happiness (Markman). Factors such as longing working hours, and global migration have led
to increased social isolation. Social media allows us have to constant connection with others,
helping us build upon and strengthen the relationships we have started, thus solving the problem of
social isolation.
The first reason social media is necessary for us to create sustainable new relationships is the lack of
time people have in today's society. Zeynep Tufekci, a sociology professor at UNC writes that social
isolation has risen not because of social media, but because of "obstacles" such as "... long working–
hours ..." (Tufekci). Moreover, "A Harvard Business School survey of 1,000 professionals found that
94% worked at least 50 hours a week, and almost half worked more than 65 hours" which is
significantly more than it had been before (The Economist). Technology such as smartphones make

Social Media And Its Effect On Society
SOCIAL MEDIA!!!! DIGITAL MARKETING!!! CONTENT MARKETING!!!
Every business hears those terms being bandied about every day. They are made to feel less than and
that their business will go under if they are not on the cutting edge of whatever is happening in
digital. The reality is, there is some truth to it, but not in the way you think.
Digital and Social Media are just tools. Yes tools, like a hammer
Facebook
Twitter
Google+
Pinterest
is a tool, like a drill is a tool, like a great knife is a tool to chef.
Do you need to use the tools? Absolutely!
Because someone else in your industry is already using them and is getting exposure to your
potential (and possibly current) customers that way.
Do you need to jump into every aspect of social media or digital marketing banging away at
everything that might look like a nail with your Thor sized hammer and expecting the sales gods to
bend to your will? No!
Like your business needs a strategy, your social media efforts need a strategy. Don't be scared by the
terminology (learn it, but don't be scared by it). 'You need a strategy' is just a fancy way to say you
need a plan. You would not try and run your business without having a plan. You would not try and
run a marathon without having a plan. Why would you trust your online presence to willy–nilly
efforts without a plan? The good news, is you don't have to. And the primary thing you need to
know about to write your social media plan is Your Business.

fun to relax. First things first, you must pack the essentials. Food (probably more than you need), a
bathing suit and of course, a fishing pole. Now, you are ready for a trip to your favorite lake. After a
few hours of driving, you finally reach your destination and can't wait to get your boat out on the
water, but guess what? Upon inspection from the local DWS officer, you are sent away due to the
presence of Quagga mussels on your watercraft. These miniscule invasive species have completely
ruined your trip. What could you have done differently? By becoming familiar with the rules and
regulations, and being educated in their growth patterns, individuals can become active participants

The only thing we can do is to make sure that we are not transporting quagga mussels. Boat owners
need to clean, drain, and dry their boats or have them professionally decontaminated. During the
summer, self cleaned boats need to dry for 7 days before entering another body of water. The fall
and spring recommendation is 18 days, and 30 days in the winters (or 3 days in below freezing
temperatures.) Several states are already taking action against quagga infestations. Idaho, for
example, has boat inspection stations set up at almost every major road entering into the state. Laws
require that boaters must stop at one of these stations on their way to recreational waters. Utah, in
conjunction with Idaho, spends $2.6 million per year to contain quagga mussels. To put this amount
in perspective, that is the same amount the United States government spends on presidential
vacations alone! Since 2009, when Idaho launched its inspection program, nearly 300,000 boats
have been inspected. Over 200 of those boats were contaminated with over 400 labeled as high

Joy In The Bluest Eye Essay
Here is the truth. It is black and white. The ugliness of her environment personified in her face.
Press has evolved from educating the masses to publicizing for capitalism. Wright, J. C., Huston's
study concludes between the ages of 2–5 children are most affected by the content of television

Most vividly, media skews what is believed to be joy and beauty. Joy is extended pleasure, but with
time, joy can bring pain. Zadie Smiths "Joy" details her navigate through life as she finds pleasure in
the small things, but ultimately finds joy in the larger aspects of her life. Joy is living and
understanding the beauty of life. Mass, popularized media has miss defined what is joy and beauty.

Media, society's outlet, is a drug (like poppy seeds). Like poppy seeds, media is often dark and very
selective. It is from Pecula's blackness that society has taken its own opiate, so media settles only for

persistence has gotten her to the end. Pleasure is a temporary good with little consequence and ill
intention. In the field of poppy, Pecula is awake and wishes to assimilate into a culture that does not
welcome those who are awake. Zadie Smith and Pecula both found joy despite the distractions and
the temptations that pleasure possesses. There are many things that cannot be changed, but it is
important that boundaries are constantly being pushed. Individuals should persist to challenge the

The next marker on the map was the Historical Culvert 1656, this was much easier to see. The
Culvert was covered in what looked to be moss and surrounded by trees. The depth of it was
unbelievable to me and I could only imagine what it must of looked like back in time. Along the
path signs were posted to tell about the time and what it was like to live there. One sign said Staying
Alive, as it told about the horrific hygiene and the diseases. During this time people, didn't connect
their hygiene to their health and bathing was seen as dangerous. If a person with clean clothes came
up to you they were a rich man. Laborers were proud of the stained and tattered clothing that
showed their skills. Disease was completely under control by this time and efforts were being made
to control any epidemics that would occur. A water sanitation facility in Pittsburgh was the first start
to controlling disease other than medication. The final marker that we reached before we decided to
turn around was Historical Culvert 1624, this one was very difficult to see at first but down in the
bushes a stone wall barely shows. The culvert itself couldn't be seen but the stone, looked made it
look like a ditch full of brush and flowers. As we turned around to return to the car I looked around
at the trees and the scenery and tried to imagine the railroad where I was standing. A State Historic

Little Falls History
The first people who discovered the land that would become the Town of Little Falls are known as
the Mohawk Indians. The Mohawk Indians called the land Little Falls so the could differentiate this
land from another land called Big Falls at Cohoes. When white traders discovered this land in the
early 1600s they explored it and eventually bought it from the Mohawk Indians in 1722 and from
then on people started settling in Little Falls (Little Falls). Around a hundred years after the
purchase of Little Falls the Erie Canal was built. The Erie Canal was the main source of commerce
and transportation through Little Falls in the mid 1800s through to the late 1900s. The Erie Canal

(Bond of Union). Hawley's draft was then left with Surveyor–General De Witt Clinton to try and

Clinton, Thomas Eddy, Peter Porter, James Geddes, William North, Gouverneur Morris, and
Stephen Van Rensselaer, all canal commissioners, traveled the thirty–hour tour up the Hudson to do
surveying without interference of politics. On their journey they visited all the small towns with
companies up and down the Mohawk river, between Albany, Oswego and Buffalo, they asked them
questions about building a canal and if they approved of the idea but, they all said that it wouldn't
matter to them because they traded with Montreal (Bond of Union). After the canal commissioner
members finished their expedition of the Hudson and Mohawk river all of them were convinced that
the canal was not a good idea except for Peter Porter. Porter believed that the canal could be built
right alongside the Mohawk river using the unpredictable waters as their water source for the canal.
Much later after the expedition of the Hudson and Mohawk river De Witt received a letter stating
that the canal must be built or else all the business would go to Montreal, Canada and that building
the canal would turn New York City into "The largest commercial city in the world." (Bond of

Everyone is a genius, but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree then it will live its whole

concluded that the project was too ambitious to undertake, the State of New York took on the task of
carving 363 miles of canal through the wilderness with nothing but the muscle power of men and

The first piece of evidence that shows any sign of women getting their rights is when the
Underground Railroad stations ran right along the pathway of the Erie Canal and triggered women
forcing themselves into communities and realizing how disrespected they were being treated.
However, since women did not have very many right they could not make a difference about it.
According to Catherine A. Brekus' article "Female Preaching in Early Nineteenth– Century
America" women began working against the grain and started to rebel against them not being able to
do any of the things men can and started with preaching in churches secretly. Eventually, women did
not need to keep it a secret because some churches actually began allowing women to preach instead
of men. In the article, from the National Park Service, it is stated that along the stations of the
Underground Railroad a conference was made to discuss Women's Rights. During this convention,
of sorts, 300 people responded to discuss Women's Rights. This convention will lead to the Women's
Rights movement after the Civil War, and World War II.
Given these points, it is safe to say that the Erie Canal effect America by its way of trading, leading
to the abolishment of Slavery, and lead to the Women's Rights movement. So it is important to

Andrew Carnegie : A Hero Or A Hero
Andrew Carnegie was a philanthropist who changed history in America. The famous Andrew
Carnegie was born in November, 1835, to a poor and struggling family in Dunfermline, Scotland. In
1848, his family decided to immigrate to the United States for the necessity of a better life and
immediately started working at a local textile mill setting where he earned $1.20 a week. He was
soon recognized by his talent of decoding dot–dot dash–dash messages by ear and was hired by
Pennsylvania Railroad where he later on became a supervisor and earned $1,500 a year. Years later
after hard work and labor, Carnegie met Henry Bessemer, the developer of converting iron into
steel, and soon adopted the Bessemer process. When coming back from his trip from England to
America, he built several steel mills in America. Through dedication and effort, Andrew Carnegie
became one of the wealthiest businessmen in the United States. His steel industry was increasing in
popularity and was known as the "king of steel". Was Andrew Carnegie a hero? A hero is an

Symbolism In Crooked River Burning By Mark Winegardner
Most novels include some type of symbolism that plays an important role in the dynamic and the
plot development of their storyline. In the novel Crooked River Burning by Mark Winegardner, one
symbol remains prevalent throughout the entire book. The city of Cleveland and the crooked
Cuyahoga river plays an incredible role in the interconnections between the characters of the story.
As the Cuyahoga river divides the East and West sides of the city, it also, in turn, divides the two
star–crossed lovers Anne O'Connor and David Zielinsky. However, the thing that makes them so
different is also the very thing that brings them together. The downfall and upbringing of Cleveland
directly influences and nearly parallels the complicated and ever–changing relationship between
Anne and David. Cleveland is described as one of the greatest cities in the world at the beginning of
this novel. The Indians are having a winning season and have started integrating their team, Elliot
Ness is taking down crime left and right with the Untouchables, Dorothy Fuldheim is reinventing
United States television as she becomes the first woman news anchor in history, the local
newspapers are soaring in sales and publicity, and Alan Freed is creating rock and roll through his
radio show. The two main characters of the novel, David Zielinsky and Anne O'Connor, both
witness these successes and innovations firsthand, albeit in slightly different ways. David grows up

The Importance Of Technology On The World

This paper will explore the history of the colonial settlements of the Quakers, who are also known as
the Society of Friends, who settled in New Jersey and Pennsylvania in colonial times. The history
surrounding the establishment and growth of the Quaker colonies of West Jersey and Pennsylvania
will be discussed. William Penn's efforts in establishing the colonies of West Jersey and
Pennsylvania were paramount to Quakers immigrating to America. John Fenwick also played a
major role in founding the colony of West Jersey, which is now known as New Jersey and the later
immigration of Quakers to Pennsylvania. The abolitionist efforts of the Quakers in their fight against
slavery, their equal treatment of slaves and the assistance that they provided to slaves will also be
discussed. Quakers provided shelter, financial support and harbored many slaves so that they could
avoid capture by their owners. Quakers were a large part of the abolitionist movement in the
colonies while slavery was legal. Many Quakers played a role in the Underground Railroad, which
assisted slaves in obtaining their freedom and avoiding capture. The terms "Quaker" and Society of

when first meeting someone, it is a way that can help you start to build a relationship with others. In
the end I do not have to come best friends with the person, but being able to network myself, and
build acquaintances will help me not only in my personal life but in my professional career as well.
Finally, as an extrovert I use social setting as a means of energy for myself. I am always up to going

Erie County Health Department, and part of her job would be going to health fairs, and other events.

In other words, the weight–loss company used social media as a targeting tool. They sent their
marketing out to the people who were most receptive to it. Social media is a place where a company
can mention weight loss without the user instantly clicking off the page.
In addition, since the company was not asking for money for the recipe cards, people were less

Water Transportation in the Jacksonian Era Essay
Water Transportation in the Jacksonian Era Water travel assisted heavily with transportation of
goods and people from the American north–east to the west, which would eventually create a

Before any canals were even built, there was a great demand for better transportation to and from
the west. During this time of exploration, something was necessary in order for settlement to
progress. After the canals were built, people living in to north grew exceedingly wealthy from the
trading benefits of the canals. This wealth would eventually create economic differences with the

a helping hand.
Secondly, the C&O canal had many different developments in the period following it's completion.
However these developments were not nearly as good. The contractors, and engineers proved that
they could not correctly build the canal, as they did not finish in the predicted time(Bourne). The

The Expansion Of The World War II
Since World War II, Pittsburgh has transitioned from a manufacturing town to one of health,

after a major loss of industry. Not only was the economy able to deal with the blow of the loss of
steel, but also the culture and quality of life was able to improve when things looked bleak.
Evidence of this is visible in the innovative building use, use of public land, and public amenities. In
the time after WWII, there were negative changes as well including community loss and resident
relocation and some previous problems that persisted through that reinvention.

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Future Plans and Opportunities Within the next five years of the company, we are putting forth a plan to achieve a catering department. We want to be able to provide the planning and set up of the events that we offer, as well as the food for our clients. Our plan is to lease a kitchen facility big enough to house our staff and store our products while working out of the kitchen. During this five year goal, we plan on opening a second branch in the Chicago Illinois area, while having our branch in Erie, PA still running. Industry Analysis The events industry is an ever growing part of the hospitality world. There is a bigger need for the attention to detail than most people will think about, and event planners are trained to think about these issues. Event planners have to be able to handle budgets that the clients will set for them while still maintaining a high quality of service. The events industry is an ever–growing business. There is always something new that people will want and request at their parties. There is a big need for tight budgets within the economy as well as some weddings that will be very extravagant. Future Trends Once our catering department is added to our company, we will start to look at the trends that the food industry is currently providing. These trends will include things such as healthier options for courses as well as smaller portions. These small portions will control the amount of food a person is advised to eat, but we ... • 3. The Great Flood Of 1889 Also known as the "Great Flood of 1889," the Johnstown flood occurred when a local man–made dam failed, unleashing millions of gallons of water and causing utter destruction in its wake. On May 31st, 1889, at around 3:10 p.m., about 14 miles from Johnstown, PA, the South Fork Dam was overcome by several structural shortcomings and failed. This allowed millions of gallons of water to surge through the Conemaugh Valley, leaving little in its wake (NPS). There were a total of 111 days of rainfall within the year preceding the dam's failure. This level of rainfall was very unusual for the community of Johnstown, let alone the entire state of Pennsylvania. Just before the dam broke, 6–8 inches of rain had fallen throughout the region, turning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These changes had disastrous effects on the structure of the dam (ASDSO). As large amount of rain fell, debris began to collect in the mesh netting, contributing to rising water levels, as the spillway was blocked (ASDSP). The lack of an underlying water relief system, as the previous one had not been replaced after the reconstruction, increased the pressure of the reservoir (ASDSO). The pressure of the added volume compromised the structure of the dam and it overtopped. The structure was overcome and the dam burst (ASDSO). Due to the nature of this dam break, the water traveled at high velocity– estimated at 64 km/hr or about 40 mph (National Geographic). The average amount of water discharged was around 318,000 cubic feet per second (JAHA). The flood killed approximately 2,209 people. This included 396 children and 99 local families (Begos, 2014). As many as 750 corpses remained in "river towns downstream" and "Johnstown morgues" awaiting family identification, which never happened (Begos, 2014). 1,600 homes were lost and whole communities were swept away (Begos, 2014). Trains were dislodged from their tracks and were swept downstream about 4,000 feet (JFM, 2013). The flood debris spanned "30 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Social Media Addiction We are certainly no strangers about social media, but do we know everything about it? Social media are internet based technologies notably created on computer web based sites and mobile apps platform, that facilitate the creation and sharing of information via virtual networks. Through social networking we generate contents such as text post, digital photos and even videos. It connects a user's profile with those of other individuals or groups. Social media has rapidly altered our traditional understanding of relationships and personal information, making it difficult for users to fully comprehend the consequences of a world where individuals can be isolated everywhere they are in a group and where the private is also public. Social networking has turned the world into a small but global village. Now it's easy to connect with people from all over the world, people from Far East like China can interact with others from the United States in real time virtually. Platforms like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and many more are the mean of social networking; however social media developed an addiction and overuse that caused unwanted distraction from reality and social life with people. Once it was a healthy escape from life's problem. Now it's a problem to life itself, at least people life relationships. Social networking once was a great tool to establish and maintain relationships with friends, family and even strangers sharing similar interests. But unfortunately it can backfire ... • 7. Poverty Reflection For my civic or political participation, I volunteered with CPS's GIV day for a poverty simulation. This is a half a day on the Friday of orientation week is available to first year's students. The students are able to learn about civic issues like poverty and how Gettysburg College works with the issue and community. As a member of Gettysburg College, I have volunteered with CPS in many capacities and have done the poverty simulation as a first year. I also choose this engagement because I have volunteered or participated in it every year except when I was abroad. This opportunity also allowed me to complete five of my required hours for my sorority and service fraternity. At the end, GIV day I an amazing way to get involved on campus, and be reminds about key issues that affect the community and world. First year students will come to the College Union Buildings Ballroom on the Friday of Orientation with little to no idea what they are going to experience for half of the day. They will be assigned a discussion table, a community group number, and a poverty simulation table number. The day is spit up in half, where for the first half of the students will go to the community site and the other will go through the poverty simulation. After both are done, the group will switch. The students in the poverty simulation are divided into tables, which becomes families, and their goal is to survive the four weeks. Surviving includes going to work, if they have a job, buying food, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Pressure And Stereotypes For Girls In The Fashion Industry The Fashion Industry Under society's norms for decades, girls have been put under the pressure and expectation to have perfect bodies. That is, thin and curved, beautified by applying pounds of makeup to their face but not appear ridiculously overdone. Where do these unreachable standards come from? When a young girl hears the model on the cover of Vogue being called flawless it's easy for her to then aspire to be a real–life replica of the photoshop. These companies spit out magazine covers plastered with girls' idols daily. As if maintaining the perfect body wasn't hard enough our culture also forces girls into the forever expanding world of makeup, however, body image is a pressing issue for girls. Ads and posters of skinny female models are everywhere. Young girls not only could be better but need to be better and feel forced to have the perfect physique. Girls are evaluated and oppressed by their physical appearances. With accessories and apparel designed to enhance a look; social media, magazines, and marketing campaigns and advertisements add to the burden of perfection. The fashion industry is a prime target of body image issues, as they believe clothes look better on tall and slim women. Based on a survey participated by 13 to 17–year–old in the U.S., 90% "felt pressured by fashion and media industries to be skinny", with more than 60% habitually compare themselves to models, while 46% will strive to achieve it. Furthermore, the severity of this matter continues to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Disney Princesses : An Overt Sense Of Self Esteem Fred Rogers and the Disney princesses have a unique similarity in that they both employ an overt sense of self–esteem in children, which negatively impacts that child's future. Mr. Rogers, through his television show, has made kids believe that they are special for just being who they are. A similar idea is also true regarding Disney princesses, in that the little girls who emulate them believe that life should be lived as a fairy tale. As children grow up, they are very easily influenced by what their surroundings, particularly by what they see and hear. With Mr. Rogers being the main character on an educational children's TV program and the "princess" message being promoted everywhere you look, it is very simple for children to latch onto these people/characters. All of these individuals seem to allow the child to believe that they are at the center of the world. This may be nothing to yearn over if it is seen in a young child, but as the child grows up there are various factors that may be worrisome. Self–esteem, empowerment, and entitlement are three ideals that could be influenced negatively as the child develops into a young adult. Once again, on the surface it may seem that Mr. Rogers and the Disney princesses are very positive role models for the youth of our country, but it is evident that there are aspects of their teaching/culture that are not all that good for an easily influenced, developing child. Mister Rogers' Neighborhood was an educational ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For example, he built the Milton Hershey school to benefit underprivileged youth. In fact, this school is still in operation today and was originally opened on November 15, 1909. Another way Hershey impacted the lives of many was through the building of Hersheypark. This amusement park was established in 1907 and, like the school, is still in operation today. On the other hand Hershey's Chocolate also left a huge impact on the entire nation and the world and continues to be successful today. Evidently, his chocolate was innovating at the time because it allowed more people to be able to afford chocolate, not just the wealthy. Furthermore Milton Hershey's legacy would later impact the lives of a great deal of individuals in a positive manner. If Milton Hershey had not lived, many youth and various families would not have the opportunities that for a better life and pleasure. In 1903, even before the chocolate factory was completed, Milton Hershey set aside a place for a park to be built for his employee's for picnics and family outings. That is because Hershey wanted to build a park as a pleasant environment for his workers and their families. Later, the space was used to build Hershey Park. Construction on the park began in 1905 when a dance hall was built, and then a theater in 1906. However, the park was not opened until April ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Political figures such as President Trump, have used social media to embarrass himself and the country, countless people lose jobs everyday due to posts on social media, and Kids are influenced into making bad decisions because of trends. One of the major key events in all of this is the development of "Facebook". Facebook was one of the very first platforms that allowed everyone to access it, ever since then, our modern lifestyle has been in a decline. Social media is a common tool in modern life, however, it has caused many problems, including a corruption in our political system, damaging careers, and having a negative impact on children. With social media having such a value to society today, it is crucial to correct these errors in social media. Politics is one area where social media can change the entire country. When social media was introduced in a political candidate, it turned the voting system into a game, as shown by the article Social Media and Politics "As easy as it is for politicians to reach out to voters on sites like Facebook, it is even easier for these online supporters to abandon politicians when the campaign ends"(Social Media and Politics). By this, the author is stating that people who are influenced to vote by social media are likely to stop their support of the candidate after they win. This means that voters no longer care about the long term effect of a vote, after they vote they lose interest. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

You have to do everything on your own, without any help from parents or guardians. So, when you choose a college, it should be the perfect fit for you. I'm planning on researching two different colleges– Duquesne University and Temple University. When choosing my future college, I will think about the majors they offer, the location that they are in, and the extracurricular options that the university provides. Colleges can have an abundance of majors, but they may not acquire the major or field that you are interested in entering. Both of the colleges that I am investigating have similar majors that I am interested in. Temple University has a major for Entertainment Law (Temple University Degree Programs). "Entertainment law or media law is a term for a mix of more traditional categories of law with a focus on providing legal services to the entertainment industry" (Entertainment Law). However, Duquesne University offers a JD (Juris Doctor)/ Master of Arts in Philosophy (Duquesne University). "The Juris Doctor degree is the first, professional law degree offered by law schools in the United States. Successful completion of the J.D. degree allows a graduate to sit for a state's bar exam, leading to a license to practice law" (University of the PACIFIC). Canals have been around since the Ancient Roman Civilizations and still exist today. Canals have been so important because they allow people to travel from one place to another and back by way of water. They require very little energy and maintenance but help trade flow more efficiently. This can be proved by observing the United States economy in the early 19th century. It also talks about how our major mode of transportation went from turnpikes to canals, and later, canals to steamboats and railroads. One thing that this source talks about that very few do is the other canals that were built after the Erie Canal as a result of its success. These canals include the Champlain canal, the Union Canal, the Ohio Canal, the Pennsylvania Canal, and many more. I feel that my topic was fine as far as restrictions go. I do think though that it should have been limited to the Erie Canal only because that was by far the most important canal of the era. All of the sources I found have contained the Erie Canal. One thing wrong with my topic is that it is limited to canals before 1840. It should have been canal building before 1860 since that is about when the Canal Era ended. But while the thought of going west was in a lot of people's minds, so were thoughts of the restrictions making the move almost impossible. The trip to the west was filled with mountains, forests, rivers and even a few waterfalls. How was this transportation of people and goods to take place? Before the Transcontinental Railway, interstate highways and airplanes changed the shape of our country, there was the New York State Erie Canal system. Whether the Canal was being used for business people, immigrants, settlers of the region, or tourists, the border–towns all had some appeal to these persons. After some time the state was continually asked to expand the Canal from the original route to include connecting canal routes. However, the same towns along the route from Buffalo to Albany had already been established along the lines of the original canal. These towns would need to be relocated in order to obey these new requests. This presented a major problem because the people in these towns had formed a life around the Canal and many of them made their income based of the Canal. The inhabitants of the towns changed their mentality from not wanting the Canal to invade on their lives, to it being an essential part of their lives they depended upon. The Erie Canal provided an extremely fast source of transportation compared to other ones of that time. A lot of the land that the Canal went through was uninhabited and therefore people weren't able to move through these areas. Once the Canal was built it served as that pathway through these areas. • 38. The Importance Of Social Media And Social Relationships Recent times have shown an exponential growth in terms of innovation and technology. Because of this it is vital that we examine the importance of social media in the way we maintain and create relationships, and how that has affected how happy we are. In this paper I will be arguing that the use of technology is necessary in order to sufficiently maintain and create better relationships which increase our overall level of happiness. Relationships are the key to our happiness. According to psychologist Alt Markman, our relationships help create a sense of belonging which increases our overall happiness (Markman). Factors such as longing working hours, and global migration have led to increased social isolation. Social media allows us have to constant connection with others, helping us build upon and strengthen the relationships we have started, thus solving the problem of social isolation. The first reason social media is necessary for us to create sustainable new relationships is the lack of time people have in today's society. Zeynep Tufekci, a sociology professor at UNC writes that social isolation has risen not because of social media, but because of "obstacles" such as "... long working– hours ..." (Tufekci). Moreover, "A Harvard Business School survey of 1,000 professionals found that 94% worked at least 50 hours a week, and almost half worked more than 65 hours" which is significantly more than it had been before (The Economist). The first piece of evidence that shows any sign of women getting their rights is when the Underground Railroad stations ran right along the pathway of the Erie Canal and triggered women forcing themselves into communities and realizing how disrespected they were being treated. However, since women did not have very many right they could not make a difference about it. According to Catherine A. Brekus' article "Female Preaching in Early Nineteenth– Century America" women began working against the grain and started to rebel against them not being able to do any of the things men can and started with preaching in churches secretly. Eventually, women did not need to keep it a secret because some churches actually began allowing women to preach instead of men. In the article, from the National Park Service, it is stated that along the stations of the Underground Railroad a conference was made to discuss Women's Rights. During this convention, of sorts, 300 people responded to discuss Women's Rights. This convention will lead to the Women's Rights movement after the Civil War, and World War II.
