Play Psychology
Introduction
To the general public, play is viewed as a nonchalant activity that children engage in to preoccupy their time. However, occupational therapists view
play as the fundamental occupation that introduces a child to the world around them. According to Fazio, 2008, "Play is important because it is an
effective way to develop other functions, such as sensory integrative, motor, social, cognitive, self–care, or work skills" (as cited in Parham, 1996). In
class, we watched a video and observed a thirteen–month–old boy, named Noah. He was examined by Jacqui in what seemed to be a playroom in his
home along with a few of his siblings present. Because play is Noah's primary occupation, the setting seemed to be a conducive environment for ...

His response, indicates that the reflex has not yet integrate, which explains his inability to independently walk. This is not abnormal for a child at his
age, because it is a fairly new skill that he is learning to master. In fact, Noah was able to walk while pushing the cart which shows that there is a
likelihood that Noah will eventually learn walk on his own. In addition, Noah is able to shift from a sit to crawl position, and even used the ottoman to
pull himself to stand. These specific behaviors contribute to Noah's ability to explore his surrounding environment. (In text citation), explained that
mobility contributes to exposing the child to new avenues of exploration and ignites the sense of autonomy within the child (site). Noah's modes of
transport feeds his natural desire to explore, build confidence in his abilities, and his exposure to different settings.
Fine Motor and Visual
When obtaining the goldfish from Jacqui, Noah initially used a palmar grasp to get the snack. Once he got used to the sequence of reaching and
grasping, Noah began to self–feed using a pincer grasp. In order to accurately locate the snack, Noah needed to use his visual skills as well.
Specifically, he used tracking in order to locate the snack and follow it wherever Jacqui moved it. It is with this specific visual skill that allowed
Noah to accurately plan the correct coordinated movement to obtain the goldfish. In addition, in order for Noah to be able to hold on to the shopping
cart was his use of the hook

Play in childhood
Play What is play? Play is defined as engaging in activates for enjoyment & recreation rather than a serious practical purpose. Playing is a disorganized
voluntary spontaneous activity, which may include objects, one's body, symbol usage, and relationships. Play is flexible, individualize, grouped,
motivating, self–directed, open–ended, or self–directed. (Smith, 2013) (Saskatchewan Ministry of Education, 2010) While playing, children are gaining
creative skills for creative development, which enhances the ability of creativity, learning techniques, and academic success. The most important
development is cognitive. This development is vital for school success. Cognitive development enables a child to solve problems,... Show more content

Sensorimotor play, also know as functional play, involves repetitive use of reflexes, such as, swinging, sliding, or playing on the merry–go–round This
type of play can be observed on playgrounds. Dramatic play is a type of symbolic play in which a child acts out an individual. When others engage in
the acting, it becomes sociodramatic play. Games with rules allow children to build social skills. (Playground Professionals LLC, 2013)
Importance of play Why is play important? Erik Erikson third stage of psychosocial development, "initiative versus guilt" emerges around 3–6 years of
age. During this aggressive stage, children start to take on life and exploring themselves. If a child has too much guilt in this stage, it can hinder the
child and slow down their social and creativity skills. Parents are to encourage the child, but give guilt as well to establish their self–control and
conscience. (McLeod, 2013) Play is essential in child development, because skills such as language, physical, emotional, social, literacy, creative, and
cognitive are developed. A variety of play, activities, and toys, require different words to describe the play that is occurring, enhancing language
development. Language development is important in communication, language forms & functions, intentional verbal interactions (asking and
answering questions), and playing with language (i.e., rhymes, jokes, & riddles).

Play Essay
The play space is not school, and whilst learning may be an important playwork priority, what is even more important is how the child learns and
whether s/he retains control over prioritising what is learnt. Play is a process of trial and error in which the error is as valuable to learning as is the
success. Within playwork we generally define play as behaviour which is 'freely chosen', 'personally directed' and 'intrinsically motivated' (Hughes,
1984). The definition is seen as having authenticity by playworkers because it recognises not only the child–centredness of play, but its experimental
nature (Eibl–Eibesfeldt, 1967, 1970). (Hughes, 2001, p. 97)

EVERY child in the UK has the right to relax and play, and to join in a wide range of activities, under article 31 of the United Nations Convention on
the Rights of the Child.
To support this right to play, jobs and career opportunities are flourishing in the playwork sector.
What is playwork?
Play is recognised as crucial to a child's happiness and healthy development.
Playwork is an emerging professional field with an an increasingly recognised and qualified workforce.
It is the work of creating and maintaining spaces for children to play.
Working in playwork means understanding and meeting the play needs of children and young people of different abilities, ethnic background and
circumstances, usually but not exclusively between four and 16 years of age.
Do I need to take a qualification?
There are training opportunities at all levels of playwork for peoplewhowant to develop their skills and help empower children to play freely and take
part in activities that are challenging, stimulating and also great fun!
Higher education institutions are also realising the need for quality degree courses to up–skill playwork

Play And Literacy
The thought of school and play don't generally belong in the same category. Although people don't find play important in a classroom, play is very
important especially in the early childhood setting. In early education classrooms students begin exploring, experimenting and mastering the beginnings
of numeracy, literacy and even science. While children are talking and playing with one and another they are learning those concepts. Oral language and
written are spread throughout classrooms. When talking is not an occurrence in the classroom students are listening to directions, identifying their
cubbies, cleaning up and responding to questions which is all considered play.
In order to meet the academic requirements play does not need to be nonexistent in the classroom. According to research play, high–quality play can

Play: The Impact Of Play On Human Development
The reflections about play helped me learn what a tremendous impact play has on human development throughout our entire lives. From the time we
are infants, play keeps us company and enables us to develop our social, physical and mental skills. The ability and desire to play is evident in most
children and seems to consume most of their waking hours. Imagination is also a huge part of play, and both help children explore as well as navigate
the world around them. As we get older and enter into adolescence, play seems less carefree and spontaneous. There becomes more concerned about
ourselves through the eyes of our peers rather than our own feelings. Adolescent play is more controlled and is often in the form of sports and games

I have learned through my life is that the most important or the meaning of life is the people in your life. There is no point of having a nice car or
a house if there is not anyone to share it with. Play has taught me this lesson time and time again. The values that I have tried to keep and are a part
of me are leadership, friends and family, grit, and God. Friends and family are the most important value in my opinion because no matter what
happens to you in your life regardless of it being good or bad, your friends and family will always be there for you. Grit is defined as courage and
unwavering determination. Grit helps determines what kind of life you want to lead. There is always pain and setbacks in life but this should
never stop you. Leadership is important it is up to a person to help lead and help people determine what is right and wrong regardless of the
consequences. God is very important in my life because I believe in a higher power and believe that he wants us to help other people achieve their
highest potential. Working for me has taught me leadership, teamwork, and how to be a good person. Leadership that I have learned has shown me
to always place the needs of your co workers and the customers ahead of yourself. This means your needs always come last and you need to complete
the task or project on time and done

However, even if it is clear that Shakespeare was not the patriarchal bard, 'The Taming of The Shrew' is quite unsatisfying compared to his other great
pieces of work. As I mentioned, the original version of the play does not include closing segment with Sly, and leaving a wonder about the play's
completeness. Still, 'The Taming of The Shrew' is an important piece of work which brings out the comedic side of Shakespeare where irony and puns
carry the play throughout. Also, as a comedy, this play truly brings us laughter receiving a great value as a comedy

Play Counselling
A Few Examples of using Play therapy
Play counselling helped an anxious, perfectionist student takes more risks in her schoolwork, improving her performance, which had suffered from her
excessive fear of making mistakes.
Play counselling helped a disruptive student cope more effectively with his angry reactions to his parents' divorce so that his outbursts, "talking–back,"
and general "acting out" on the playground, on the bus, and at lunch were virtually eliminated.
Play counselling has been extremely effective in the aftermath of several high profile and tragic school violence incidents. It has been used to help
students express their fears and other reactions to such events and to return as much "normalcy" to the school environment ... Show more content on

Use the following questions to design your play therapy and the room for a child client named Emma.
A 5 year old girl whom we shall call Emma was bitten by a dog in the front of her neighbor's house and her fears generalized to her going out of her
house. She refused to leave the house for anything, including pre–school. She threw tantrums whenever her parents suggested going out. Initially her
parents brought the car right up to her family home front door only then would she go out. Her parents realized that her fears were being reinforced
every time they gave in to her tantrums.
Answer the following set of questions to design a play therapy intervention for Emma and her family on her specific problem.
1.Determine the therapeutic goal(s) with the child/family. For instance, one of her goals would be to help her become comfortable going out.
2.What "traditional" methods of therapy would you use to this resolve the problem/goal? For instance: Firstly, it would be important for the parents to
determine if the neighbor's dog is healthy, is tied to a leash and not allowed to roam around freely. Secondly, we might use systematic desensitization to
help her overcome her "phobia" or fear. Any other

All the costumes were normal attire people wear everyday. Richard wore a maroon collared shirt, with black dress pants, and had a briefcase that
matched his collared shirt. When Richard first walked onto stage I thought he was a businessman because he was clean cut, dressed
professionally, and carried a briefcase. Richard's hair color was light grey which means he was an older gentleman like Anne said in the play. The
next costume I thought was interesting was the superintendent outfit because it looked like a janitor uniform. When the superintendent made her
first appearance she was eating a cookie and taking the garbage can out of the room. Therefore, I initially thought she was just a janitor. Later in
the performance the audience found out she was the superintendent in charge of the apartments in the building and also did a lot of repairs. The
third costume was Paul's plaid shirts that stood out to the audience. This costume tells the audience about the time the performance is taking place.
In today's world people tend not to wear buttoned up plaid shirts because they are out of style. However, back in the 70s plaid shirts were in style
and all the men wore them as causal attire. The last costume I thought was interesting was Larry's, the expectant father, he wore a sweater vest and
dress pants, his hair was comb to one side, and he wore glasses. This costume tells the audience that he comes from a wealthy yuppy family and is a
smart person because he wears nerdy glasses and wears a sweater

Social Play Analysis
A). Play as defined in our book is an "activity that is intrinsically motivated, focused on means rather than ends, different from purely exploratory
behavior, nonliteral, and free from externally applies rules" (Gross, 225). There are different types of play such as play with objects, social play, and
pretend symbolic play. Play with objects depends on age for example a child between the age of birth to 4 months uses exploratory type of play,
repetitive motor movements such kicking legs, reaching for or sucking their toes, and rolling over. Whereas a child who is between the age of 24
months and 36 months uses fine motor play which allows them to play with Play–doh and put together puzzles. Social play is playing with a
responsive human playmate. This could be the child's mother, father or caregiver. Pretend/symbolic play "usually emerges after the first birthday, when
children behave in a nonliteral way, acting as if they were performing familiar routines, such as eating, going to sleep, or washing their face" (Gross,
195). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This topic is interesting to me as it amazes me how as we grow playing takes different forms to us. It is also interesting because as we get older we
can give meaning to objects making playing more intentional. Playing also caught my attention as before reading about this topic in our book I
would have never correlated pointing and naming games as mothers using it as a way to teach their child, I use to believe they would do this just
to have fun with their child. I was interested in this topic as well because I never knew play was different in cultures I always believed it meant the
same thing. It also interested me as when I get older and have kids of my own I will use play to teach, a process known as

Imaginative Play
sychChildren's Imaginative Play: A Descriptive Psychology Approach
Charles Kantor, Ph.D. Abstract
The significance of children's imaginative play is presented from the perspective of Descriptive Psychology and in particular Ossorio's
Dramaturgical model of persons. The fluidity of imaginative play, the imitation of and creation of social practices and options within play as well as
the opportunity to switch roles and act according to reasons of another, contribute to the development of judgment. The observer–critic role emerges
during imaginative play as children produce, direct, and enact their dramas. Within these scenarios, children develop competence and eligibility to be
not only status assigners but also self status assigners. During ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The self and self concept The psychoanalytic theorists (Freud, Erikson) see children playing out negative emotions in a safe context. Children are
attempting to regain control in situations of conflict. Mead stresses the importance of role playing in children's play, which activity contributes to a
child's sense of self (Verenikina et al, 2003). Erikson (1963, p.240) in describing a young client struggling with the wartime death of his father, a
pilot, illustrates the healing value of play: "...he was observed swooping down a hill on a bicycle, endangering, scaring, yet deftly avoiding other
children.... In watching him, and hearing the strange noises he made, I could not help thinking that he again imagined himself to be an airplane on a
bombing mission. But at the same time he gained in playful mastery over his locomotion; he exercised circumspection in his attack, and he became an
admired virtuoso on a bicycle."

Advances in Descriptive Psychology–Vol. 9
This description of a young boy playing imaginatively illustrates elements that theorists over the years have attributed to the value of play. His role
play was distinctly social as others witnessed his attack, and his actions increased his stature, his prestige among his friends. His ability to handle the
bike, his cognitive strength, "circumspection in his attack", as he swoops down the hill, is noted as well. His self esteem increased to the extent that he

Quality Outdoor Play
In the article "Quality Outdoor Play Space for young children" mentioned the importance of providing an opportunity for a high quality outdoor play
space for children to move freely in their environment. It is critical to me to create an outdoor environment that children can have the liberty to move
around safely and freely. The article discussed several categories that an outdoor play space needs in order to have a high quality environment. I
believe it is important to create an outdoor atmosphere that encourages children to jump, run, climb, ride, kick, balance, explore, be loud, and take
risks. Our outdoor play area has zone sections: an area with a large sandbox, a large open grass area, a playground structure area, and bike area.

The LBC Play
The LBC event I attended this weekend was, the play "The Boy Who Loved Monsters and The Girl Who Loved Peas". I attended the showing on
Saturday at 7pm to 8pm. The play took place at the Sponberg Theatre. My reflective essay is about my experience with this play and comparing it with
things I have experienced in life so far. Throughout the many different aspects of life, such as, school, family, friends and etc. Although it was for the
younger audience there were some points throughout, that made a lot of sense to the more adult crowd.
When I first heard the play I figured it was obviously centered around the title, but I was hoping for a little more to it. Once I read the description

Heuristic Play
The term heuristic comes from the Greek word 'eurisko' which means to discover and to learn by doing. Furthermore the term heuristic play has been
described by Elinor Goldschmied as an early stage of exploratory play where children enjoy filling and emptying, putting things in and taking them out
and using different types of containers. As children grow their curiosity about the world develops and as babies begin to grow out of treasure baskets
and are no longer content with simply holding and feeling, heuristic play is the natural progression to allow children to begin to understand what items
do. Toddlers begin to have a natural curiosity to understand the different ways objects work and how they interact with each other. For example a toddler

Why Play Is Play Essay
When was the last time you played a game? Not for exercise or as part of an office team–building day, it is just for fun. Play is nature training for our
life. Everyone is among the sea of eager faces to play. When we talk about play, the first thing we will think that the right of play is only a child does.
Play may allow the children to use their creativity while developing their imagination, physical and emotional strength. Play is easy to recognise in
children and animals such as chase. But what does it looks like in adults? How we play is "as unique to an individual as a fingerprint". Play could be
simply goofing off with friends, sharing jokes with a co–worker, building a snowman in the yard, playing fetch with pets, a game of charades at a party,
or going for a bike ride with your friend with no destination in mind. You can play on your own or with a pet, but for greater benefits, play should
involve at least one other person and away from the sensory–overload of electronic gadgets.

inevitable part of life. That is why play also important for adult too. They need to relieve their stress through play game. Play such as simply goofing

There is often debate as to whether it's more important to provide children with free time for creative play, or to ensure that they participate in more
organized activity. In the first article the author refers to creative play as a way to help children learn how to express themselves and promote
independent thinking. Whereas in the second article it states that organized activities are more important in the sense that they teach children things
like commitment, teamwork, and devoloping healthy attitudes towards themselves. I believe that each of these methods have their own merit, and that
a combination of both is best for a childs development. For example, I don't think it's healthy to fill all of a child's day with organized activities

Introduction:
When we teach children the language to use in order to either invite other children into their play or to enter into other children's play, we often make
the assumption that by knowing the right words to say, children should be able to initiate play. But to successfully get others to play requires the
abilities to share ideas, negotiate, compromise, and to move on when told, "I don't want to play with you right now." Some children need direct
teaching of these skills, while others may need reminder activities. For those children who appear to be competent in initiating play, these activities will

Then tell them, "Today we're going to practice what we've learned about asking friends to play. First we will take turns asking a friend if we can

lesson tell the children, "I see you have learned how to ask your friends to play. Now it's time to record in our 'asking friends to play' journals what
we've learned." You may decide to allow the children to continue to record in their "asking friends to play" journals on other occasions or you may tell
them that they can take home their "listening" journals to share with their family.
Social Skills Group Activity: Initiating Play
Appendix A– Journal Writing
Many early childhood classrooms include "journal writing" as part of their curriculum. This can be done in a variety of ways. You can use pre–made
booklets or you can easily put together the booklets yourself. If you make the booklets you can include as many pages needed for the particular
activity. For instance, for the "asking others to play" journal you can make the booklet six pages, one for each lesson. (If the child wants to do more than
one page for a particular lesson, pages can be easily added.)
To make the booklets: It is best to use unlined paper, as the children will be using pictures and other symbols to represent the ideas they are "writing"
about. A piece of colored 8ВЅx11 construction paper can

The Play Antonia
Antonia
Monday, April 10, 2017 at the Oscar F. Brockett Theater, the Cohen New Works Festival presented the play Antonia. The Chicana adaptation of
Antigone. Si Mon' Emmett; project leader, Conner Palmore; director, and D'Lonte Lawson; choreographer aimed to honor generations of marginalized
communities in the United States. With the help of the theatre space, costumes, and powerful acting this vibrant play reaches its full effect as it brings
the audience to its plot.
Theatre Space: Antonia was presented in a thrust stage. This type of stage allowed for the audience to be more intimate with the actors and form part

Antonia, the main character wore jeans, black Converse, a spaghetti strap shirt that showed her belly area, a high pony tail, hoop earrings, and spandex
underneath her jeans. On the other hand, her brothers, wore Nike sneakers, a hoodie, sweatpants, hats, and a bandana. This choice of costumes really
helped refocus the idea that Antonia is the Chicana adaptation of Antigone
Acting:
Antonia is a woman who will do anything for her loved ones even if that means puttieng her life is on the line. Throughout the play, Si Mon' Emmett
demonstrates Antonia's strong character. The best example of this is seen after intermission, when Antonia must faces her "Nino" after breaking the
rules for Terra, her deceased brother. In this scene, Si Mon' Emmet keeps herself grounded and defiant despite the proximity she has with the audience.
With the use of her voice, energy, and timing, Emmet acts with strength and presents her character well.
Conclusion:
Overall this new work, is fun and captivating. The ability to bring the audience into the Chicano world and understand the struggle of its characters
should be recognized. The choice of theatre space, costumes, and actors are three of the many elements that help it stand out.

The play Heartbreaker is a fictitious story done by Michael Golamco. It features two main characters, Vithy, who is a sixteen year old teenager and
her elder sister Ra who is aged twenty two years. The play takes place in a solemn setting down in a small apartment bedroom. The room does not
contain a lot of things; it is empty except for some few basic properties that make a bedroom. They events of the play take place at Long Beach in the
California region. Michael Golamco has used the story in bringing out loneliness as a theme in the play and its consecutive results in the people

He objects to this suggestion as he keeps persisting to his sister for her to allow him to go with her. Her sister is still defensive, rigid and seems like she
is not feeling the plea her brother was making as she indirect objects his plea by citing a reason that she has a small place in back in Berkeley. It is one
room with just a hot plate. Also, the fact that "... Glen had parked his stuffs in the station", was another of the reasons his sister was giving in order to
convince him to stay with their aunt. This did not sound as a good idea for Vuthy, to him; there was no reason that substantiated his staying around with
their aunt. He saw all attempts as avenues of leaving him lonely again, which on realizing this, he fought as much as he could in order to avoid this.
The theme of loneliness is also featured when their mother left them. She died some time back when Vuthy was still young. In her words, Ra

Therefore, she became sick because of that. Here, Vuthy is portrayed to be a Loney fellow, according to his sister, she is weird in her lonely nature. A

Props In The Play
At the beginning of the play, Brenda and April were playing separately. Brenda begins playing with the fruits and vegetables, telling Ms. Brittany
she's a farmer. Codi is nearby, trying on hats, and tells Ms. Brittany he's an astronaut. Both Codi and Brenda, utilized the props to enhance their play.
April Strolls her baby around the room, then decides she wants to take her shopping. In this play, April was a master player because she was able to
initiate the play, and express her ideas. She was able to interact with each player and organize the play. She used the props to help make a
representation come to life, which was buying the cheeseburger and flowers. Codi was also a master player and was also able to lead the play and
execute the ideas initiated for play.

Brenda and April found dolls and kitchen items to play with. While Codi found different hats to try on. All of their play changed because they
interacted with different materials. Ms. Brittany provided more than enough props for them from the mirrors, dolls, stroller, cash register, flowers, and
so much more. Because of this large variety, the children were able to keep playing and their play was not interrupted. The children did not fight over
any of the materials, which made this a fun learning environment Instead, they were able to utilize all items. "Without enough to do, children hurt
themselves and each other, practice rule– breaking, and fuss or become lethargic" (Johnson & Reynolds, 2011, p.28) Instead, all children were
engaged for the duration of the play. In past observations, I have seen Codi become lethargic when things are not his way, or he doesn't get the toy he
wants right away. In this case, he was only upset when Daniel attempted to join his play, but was able to work it out. There were more than enough
hats for him to try on, and enough items for him to engage with when at the cash

Analysis Of The Play ' The Play Of Sweet Town '
Production Report
The Play of Sweet town is set in a small country town in the mid–1960s, Sweetown explores Australia's uneasy relationship with the darker aspects of
our national history. It deals with themes of, Australian history, memories, change, denial, reconciliation, identity, guilt. The writer Melissa Reeve's
purpose for its creation was to bring to attention and satirise the history that happened and was forgotten many years ago. The set is minimalistic,
sparse and Non–realistic, with open space in the middle to reflect the outback and the use of some 1960s set pieces such as chairs to indicate the era.
The style of the play is a satire, which is a form of comedy that can also be found at the heart of more serious drama. Its ... Show more content on

The purpose of Ralph in the play is one that unintentionally takes the good guy down, he is the betrayal of the story, and he deals with themes of
change and guilt. Ralphs key objective in the play is to help but the motivation behind that is to be important that is his main driving force. My
rehearsal technique of getting into character was quite extensive, along with regular rehearsal, I and the others on stage would do improvisation in
our characters and build a back story with each other to better cement our chemistry. I wrote a back story for the character and tried to work out what
he would do on a daily basis, that along with watching a number of different videos from the time period and listening to music form the 1960s time
period really helped me find my character.
The means through which I showed my character was through the tone of voice and the body language directed towards the other person. One the
first night of performance my acting was much more skewered to the side of realism, with a stern and authority voice directed towards the characters
at the apex club, with body language which was at times antagonising with arms directed to the person or person's I was speaking to. While I was
talking to characters such as Veronica or Jack, a stern yet

Child Development : Play And Play
Child Development
Children come into the classroom with different experiences and personalities so they exhibit a variety of ways to engage in play. Some children
engage in observational play and learning while others engage in social play. Children engage in different types of play that are inter–connected. I was
aware of child–initiated play, parallel play and cooperative play but I did not consider observing as part of play. As a teacher, it is important for me to
conduct observations to help me understand what stage a child is in during play, so I can help them bridge the child's play to the next stage, if necessary.
According to my Observations
Taylor is in the observational play stage which can lead to other play styles such as solitary, onlooker, parallel, associative play and cooperative play
according to Parten's Stages of Play
Robinson, Anderson, Porter, Hart, & Wouden–Miller, 2003.pp. 3–21.). These play styles also help a child's social development. I will need to continue
to complete observations on Taylor to determine what stage of play is engages in and how that stage is affecting her social development. Through
observations I came to the conclusion that Taylor is slow to warm up to new people and unfamiliar environments. She is an observer during play and
also watches people to get to know them before forming attachments. I was aware of the importance of trust to form attachments leading to social
development but did not understand how observational learning

Annie Play : Character Analysis Of Annie's Play
Annie is a play set in the great depression about a orphan who manages to spend Christmas with a billionaire while trying to find her biological
parents. Many people attempt to fake being Annie's parents, to get a reward but none of them succeed, and Annie finds her real family in the
Warbucks, the billionaire that cares for her, and gets adopted by him and lives happily ever after.
The play was very well done and was not dull even though it was catered to a large audience. The musical numbers are very entertaining, and the
spectacle, both visual and emotional, is well accomplished. I would recommend this to most children and adults, due to the Christmas themes and
general lightheartedness of the play.
Two specific characters caught my eye as I watched Annie, one of them being Annie herself. The way she held herself like a child and radiatedoptimism
assisted me in believing her character. Her gesticulations were good, but since I was in the back row, some of them were hard to see and interpret.
She held herself like she was Annie very well, but she also spoke like a child, and intensified her character by sounding how a uneducated child would
sound. Her undeniable optimism let her foil very well with other characters, making the play better. In the scene where she was talking to the hobos,
she revealed the hobos pessimism, while reinforcing her own optimism without having it shoved down our throats by her simply saying she was
optimistic outright. The way she built her

Speech At The 2016 Play Conference Hosted By The Us Play
Fran, thank you for allowing me to attend the 2016 Play Conference hosted by the US Play Coalition. I attended three sessions on Monday, April 4th,
and the experience was highly beneficial for my future career and built on many topics I have learned this semester so far. The exposure to Parks,
Recreation, and Tourism Management professionals allowed me to see possible futures for myself. The first session I attended was on the education
track; it was given by Debbie Stevens– Smith and was entitled "The Kinesthetic Classroom: Why, How, and When." Ms. Smith, an earlychildhood
professor at Clemson University, spoke about why it is vital for teachers to create classrooms incorporating play and movement, gave some advice on
how to achieve this, and told us when we could incorporate movement during the day. The most interesting new thing I learned during this session was
about the Brain Derived Neurotrophic Factor; she compared this to "miracle grow for the brain." Basically, exercise encourages the growth of new
neurons and synapses, thus increasing brain mass and mood regulation. She also spoke about Finland, a nation with the highest test scores in the world;
their teachers give students a 15–minute break for physical activity for every 45 minutes of instruction. This shows that, despite what many educators
and policymakers think, more recess time improves school performance. Another interesting fact I learned was that 85 percent of children are
kinesthetic learners, so by

Rough Play As A Rough Play
Rough Play is known as One of The Most Difficult Behaviors
Many people feel that rough play is one of the most difficult behaviors within small children. However, young children love this type of physical
play. This type of play is usually strong, fierce, and rugged. This play may be known as the "big bodyplay" rugged and tumbled play, violent manner,
or play fighting. These forms of play can be seen with other children, they are called by different names such as King of Mountain, Red Rover, Freeze
Tag, Steal the Bacon, Duck–Duck–Goose and many more names. Infant children use their bodies to learn. Some of the things infant children do is roll
back and forth, kick their legs, and wave their arms, sometimes when they are alone or sometimes when they are beside another baby. Another thing
that infants do is crawling on top of each other. When infants get bigger, they use their bodies to stand up, push off, and move themselves forward and
backward. The toddlers yank each other firmly, and shove each other down. When children reach the preschooler ages, the demonstrate physical ways
of connecting and learning to go after a foreseeable influence of characteristics such as running, casing, fleeing, and dropping to the ground on top of
each other. The young children body play is sometimes lonely. However, the preschooler finds enjoyment by running around, dancing, and spinning,
rolling over the floor and on the ground, and or hopping and skipping by themselves. There are some

Therapeutic Play Therapy
Play is a very important aspect in the development of human health and happiness (Schaefer, 1993). The following are some of the ways in which
play can be beneficial, as described by play theorists. Play alleviates feelings of stress and helps us positively connect to others (Landreth, 2002). Play
also stimulates the exploration of creative thinking and boosts our ego while working to regulate our emotions (Landreth, 2002). Furthermore, play
gives us the opportunity to practice the skills and roles needed for survival. "Learning and development are best fostered through play" (Russ, 2004).
Play therapy initially began around the turn of the 20th century. Play therapy has now evolved into a wide number of therapeutic approaches that apply

Children at Play
Children At Play: Actual vs. Dramatic One of the signs of early childhood development is the ability to engage in play. Young children (ages 4
–6)
prefer non structured environments that gives them the "freedom" to un–limit their play in different settings. Working with preschoolers for over five
years, I am fascinated to learn all the different ways children play to learn. I understand every child has their unique talents and skills that makes them
individuals. It is important to sketch out different play strategies for children and their desired interests. The goal is to answer the question: what way
do children learn the best; actual or dramatic. As a teacher and a "researcher" I define play as actual play and dramatic play.... Show more content on

This play is about three billy goats who travel past a bridge. Under that bridge lives two monsters who want to eat the goats. The point of the play
is to get the five participants in character. For example participant A who played the part of one of the monsters had to shout and yell to act as a
monster, participant B who played the part of one of the goats had to shout and yell to defend her self from the monster. I realized this type of
activity is a great tool for children to let aggression and tension exit their mind and bodies. As Shallat puts it, "The moral or message that the author
hopes to be derived from this dramatic piece is that the suppression of discomforting feelings leads to additional, undesirable feelings and/or
consequences." (Shallat, 2003) It is important for children that are at a high risk for disturbed behavior to engage in dramatic play to let out negative
energy. Suppressing one's feelings from an early age is a sign of heightened mental burden for later years. Shallat also analyzes that, "[...] actors and
clinicians/play–directors are encouraged to create their own masks and costumes, providing additional room for creative expression" (Shallat, 2003)
As a teacher I find this to be quite intriguing. I realize it is important for children to engage in dramatic play especially if it highlights creativity

abundance of similarities between the play and the script. In the beginning of the play each and everybody got a couch, in both play and script they

through theatre, children, sports, rituals and theories. McCaslin discusses is, "All of us recognize pay in the young, but a precise definition of it eludes
us, perhaps because play takes many forms and can move in opposing directions" (McCaslin 39). One subject that McCaslin touched on was Childs
Play. She states that for children play is important, beneficial, crucial and helps them express themselves. What McCaslin states exactly is, "It is also,
he said, enables the child to create order and give meaning to the chaotic mass of random sense impressions with which he or she is bombarded daily"

The Importance of Children's Play
The importance of play in young children cannot be stressed enough. It has be shown numerous times through research the benefits that play can
have. When you think of children playing it brings a smile to your face. The importance of play definitely plays a big role in a child's life especially
between the ages of 5 to 7. What does "play" mean? There are many different types of definitions because everyone "plays" differently.Play "engage in
activity for enjoyment and recreation rather than a serious or practical purpose" (Oxford Dictionary). The focus on what types of specific toys and
games that will help not only with socialization, but with cognitive and social learning skills. These types of skills are what children need to excel and
improve in multiple areas of life. What will be defined is what types of play children between the ages 5 to 7 should participate in.
Let's start at the beginning when a baby is born, the brain is like a sculpture waiting to be molded. It has been known that a child's brain develops
very quickly in the early years of its life. There are all different types of play whether it is set up or free play it definitely ensures that one's child will
get a wide variety of experiences. Children can almost play with anything o0r anywhere, its almost as "play is a child's work, play is important"
(McNamee–Anderson, 2010).
Some types of play that children should be participating in during the ages of 5 to 7 are onlooker play, parallel play,

Play Critique
The Doctor in Spite of Himself:
The Doctor in Spite of Himself is a play that I had previously studied in France like many of MoliГЁre's plays. I thought that it was ironic for me to
go see the play for the first time in theatre in the United States. I was really looking forward to hear how the actors would pronounce the characters'
French names, which are rather exotic even for me. I think that because I had previously studied MoliГЁre's work in class, I was expecting this play to
be performed in a much more traditional style. I was a little disconcerted at first when seeing the actors performing a more modern version than what I
had in mind. I ended up liking what Arne Zaslove has done with the play. In my opinion, modernizing it a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I was not expecting the costumes to be as eccentric. Even though they were matching the characters' role and personality, I felt like they were too
wacky and did not go well with the play.
Throughout the play, I enjoyed the role of music used to set a comic atmosphere and replace the dialogs during comic scenes (e.g. when they chase
each other around). I also thought that they made a good use of light to indicate the moment of the day the scene was happening or to set the
atmosphere of the scene (e.g. pink colour during the romantic moments). Lastly, I liked the way the play ended. Even though it was a little messy with
everyone running after each other off and on stage, and this policeman coming out of nowhere, which really surprised me; I couldn't think of a better
way to end the play.
Overall I think the actors and everyone involved in the making of this play did a very good job, even though I liked the performance of some actors
better than others. The fact that this translation of the play was a more modern version original play made it more fun to watch according to me.
Unfortunately, the fact that I was not able to fully understand the actors' dialog throughout the play made it less entertaining and agreeable for me to

Active Play
While researching this website I found out a lot of useful and interesting information about play. The first thing I found on this website that was
interesting was the active play section. Active play is a huge part of physical development for children. It will help with gross–motor skills,
coordination, and sometimes fine–motor skills depending on the activity the child is doing. This also increases the child's health because of having an
active lifestyle. This is really important today because most children are spending way too much time in front of electronic devices and don't get many
opportunities to play outside. I also love that the active section gives you different ideas to develop physical skills. My favorite activity was Jumping
Jack Syllables, which is kids doing jumping jacks whenever they hear a syllable. This activity is for children between the ages of 4–5. You could also
adapt this activity with math by counting numbers and jumping at the same time. I really enjoyed this portion of the website because of all of the
ideas it has as a preschool teacher and or parent. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This section talked about children expressing and regulating their feelings through play. They can sometimes express these feelings during

for your friends, family, or even pets. I would adapt this in my classroom by having them make a card for people in the classroom during the

Play Psychology

  • 1. Play Psychology Introduction To the general public, play is viewed as a nonchalant activity that children engage in to preoccupy their time. However, occupational therapists view play as the fundamental occupation that introduces a child to the world around them. According to Fazio, 2008, "Play is important because it is an effective way to develop other functions, such as sensory integrative, motor, social, cognitive, self–care, or work skills" (as cited in Parham, 1996). In class, we watched a video and observed a thirteen–month–old boy, named Noah. He was examined by Jacqui in what seemed to be a playroom in his home along with a few of his siblings present. Because play is Noah's primary occupation, the setting seemed to be a conducive environment for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His response, indicates that the reflex has not yet integrate, which explains his inability to independently walk. This is not abnormal for a child at his age, because it is a fairly new skill that he is learning to master. In fact, Noah was able to walk while pushing the cart which shows that there is a likelihood that Noah will eventually learn walk on his own. In addition, Noah is able to shift from a sit to crawl position, and even used the ottoman to pull himself to stand. These specific behaviors contribute to Noah's ability to explore his surrounding environment. (In text citation), explained that mobility contributes to exposing the child to new avenues of exploration and ignites the sense of autonomy within the child (site). Noah's modes of transport feeds his natural desire to explore, build confidence in his abilities, and his exposure to different settings. Fine Motor and Visual When obtaining the goldfish from Jacqui, Noah initially used a palmar grasp to get the snack. Once he got used to the sequence of reaching and grasping, Noah began to self–feed using a pincer grasp. In order to accurately locate the snack, Noah needed to use his visual skills as well. Specifically, he used tracking in order to locate the snack and follow it wherever Jacqui moved it. It is with this specific visual skill that allowed Noah to accurately plan the correct coordinated movement to obtain the goldfish. In addition, in order for Noah to be able to hold on to the shopping cart was his use of the hook ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Play in childhood Play What is play? Play is defined as engaging in activates for enjoyment & recreation rather than a serious practical purpose. Playing is a disorganized voluntary spontaneous activity, which may include objects, one's body, symbol usage, and relationships. Play is flexible, individualize, grouped, motivating, self–directed, open–ended, or self–directed. (Smith, 2013) (Saskatchewan Ministry of Education, 2010) While playing, children are gaining creative skills for creative development, which enhances the ability of creativity, learning techniques, and academic success. The most important development is cognitive. This development is vital for school success. Cognitive development enables a child to solve problems,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sensorimotor play, also know as functional play, involves repetitive use of reflexes, such as, swinging, sliding, or playing on the merry–go–round This type of play can be observed on playgrounds. Dramatic play is a type of symbolic play in which a child acts out an individual. When others engage in the acting, it becomes sociodramatic play. Games with rules allow children to build social skills. (Playground Professionals LLC, 2013) Importance of play Why is play important? Erik Erikson third stage of psychosocial development, "initiative versus guilt" emerges around 3–6 years of age. During this aggressive stage, children start to take on life and exploring themselves. If a child has too much guilt in this stage, it can hinder the child and slow down their social and creativity skills. Parents are to encourage the child, but give guilt as well to establish their self–control and conscience. (McLeod, 2013) Play is essential in child development, because skills such as language, physical, emotional, social, literacy, creative, and cognitive are developed. A variety of play, activities, and toys, require different words to describe the play that is occurring, enhancing language development. Language development is important in communication, language forms & functions, intentional verbal interactions (asking and answering questions), and playing with language (i.e., rhymes, jokes, & riddles). ... • 3. Play Essay The play space is not school, and whilst learning may be an important playwork priority, what is even more important is how the child learns and whether s/he retains control over prioritising what is learnt. Play is a process of trial and error in which the error is as valuable to learning as is the success. Within playwork we generally define play as behaviour which is 'freely chosen', 'personally directed' and 'intrinsically motivated' (Hughes, 1984). The definition is seen as having authenticity by playworkers because it recognises not only the child–centredness of play, but its experimental nature (Eibl–Eibesfeldt, 1967, 1970). (Hughes, 2001, p. 97) Playwork, as defined in Bonel and Lindon (1996) as 'managing the play environment and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although people don't find play important in a classroom, play is very important especially in the early childhood setting. In early education classrooms students begin exploring, experimenting and mastering the beginnings of numeracy, literacy and even science. While children are talking and playing with one and another they are learning those concepts. Oral language and written are spread throughout classrooms. • 6. Play: The Impact Of Play On Human Development The reflections about play helped me learn what a tremendous impact play has on human development throughout our entire lives. From the time we are infants, play keeps us company and enables us to develop our social, physical and mental skills. The ability and desire to play is evident in most children and seems to consume most of their waking hours. Imagination is also a huge part of play, and both help children explore as well as navigate the world around them. As we get older and enter into adolescence, play seems less carefree and spontaneous. There becomes more concerned about ourselves through the eyes of our peers rather than our own feelings. Adolescent play is more controlled and is often in the form of sports and games of which peer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I have learned through my life is that the most important or the meaning of life is the people in your life. There is no point of having a nice car or a house if there is not anyone to share it with. Play has taught me this lesson time and time again. The values that I have tried to keep and are a part of me are leadership, friends and family, grit, and God. Friends and family are the most important value in my opinion because no matter what happens to you in your life regardless of it being good or bad, your friends and family will always be there for you. Grit is defined as courage and unwavering determination. Grit helps determines what kind of life you want to lead. There is always pain and setbacks in life but this should never stop you. Leadership is important it is up to a person to help lead and help people determine what is right and wrong regardless of the consequences. God is very important in my life because I believe in a higher power and believe that he wants us to help other people achieve their highest potential. Working for me has taught me leadership, teamwork, and how to be a good person. • 7. Taming Of The Shrew Play Vs Play However, even if it is clear that Shakespeare was not the patriarchal bard, 'The Taming of The Shrew' is quite unsatisfying compared to his other great pieces of work. As I mentioned, the original version of the play does not include closing segment with Sly, and leaving a wonder about the play's completeness. Still, 'The Taming of The Shrew' is an important piece of work which brings out the comedic side of Shakespeare where irony and puns carry the play throughout. Also, as a comedy, this play truly brings us laughter receiving a great value as a comedy The Roaring Girl' written by Thomas Dekker and Thomas Middleton is another Renaissance comedy about women and marriage. • 8. Play Counselling A Few Examples of using Play therapy Play counselling helped an anxious, perfectionist student takes more risks in her schoolwork, improving her performance, which had suffered from her excessive fear of making mistakes. Play counselling helped a disruptive student cope more effectively with his angry reactions to his parents' divorce so that his outbursts, "talking–back," and general "acting out" on the playground, on the bus, and at lunch were virtually eliminated. Play counselling has been extremely effective in the aftermath of several high profile and tragic school violence incidents. It has been used to help students express their fears and other reactions to such events and to return as much "normalcy" to the school environment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A 5 year old girl whom we shall call Emma was bitten by a dog in the front of her neighbor's house and her fears generalized to her going out of her house. She refused to leave the house for anything, including pre–school. She threw tantrums whenever her parents suggested going out. Initially her parents brought the car right up to her family home front door only then would she go out. Her parents realized that her fears were being reinforced every time they gave in to her tantrums. For instance: Firstly, it would be important for the parents to determine if the neighbor's dog is healthy, is tied to a leash and not allowed to roam around freely. Secondly, we might use systematic desensitization to help her overcome her "phobia" or fear. Any other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

All the costumes were normal attire people wear everyday. Richard wore a maroon collared shirt, with black dress pants, and had a briefcase that matched his collared shirt. When Richard first walked onto stage I thought he was a businessman because he was clean cut, dressed professionally, and carried a briefcase. Richard's hair color was light grey which means he was an older gentleman like Anne said in the play. The next costume I thought was interesting was the superintendent outfit because it looked like a janitor uniform. When the superintendent made her first appearance she was eating a cookie and taking the garbage can out of the room. Therefore, I initially thought she was just a janitor. Later in the performance the audience found out she was the superintendent in charge of the apartments in the building and also did a lot of repairs. The third costume was Paul's plaid shirts that stood out to the audience. This costume tells the audience about the time the performance is taking place. In today's world people tend not to wear buttoned up plaid shirts because they are out of style. However, back in the 70s plaid shirts were in style and all the men wore them as causal attire. The last costume I thought was interesting was Larry's, the expectant father, he wore a sweater vest and dress pants, his hair was comb to one side, and he wore glasses. • 10. Social Play Analysis A). Play as defined in our book is an "activity that is intrinsically motivated, focused on means rather than ends, different from purely exploratory behavior, nonliteral, and free from externally applies rules" (Gross, 225). There are different types of play such as play with objects, social play, and pretend symbolic play. Play with objects depends on age for example a child between the age of birth to 4 months uses exploratory type of play, repetitive motor movements such kicking legs, reaching for or sucking their toes, and rolling over. Whereas a child who is between the age of 24 months and 36 months uses fine motor play which allows them to play with Play–doh and put together puzzles. Social play is playing with a responsive human playmate. This could be the child's mother, father or caregiver. Pretend/symbolic play "usually emerges after the first birthday, when children behave in a nonliteral way, acting as if they were performing familiar routines, such as eating, going to sleep, or washing their face" (Gross, 195). ... Imaginative Play sychChildren's Imaginative Play: A Descriptive Psychology Approach Charles Kantor, Ph.D. Abstract The signiп¬Ѓcance of children's imaginative play is presented from the perspective of Descriptive Psychology and in particular Ossorio's Dramaturgical model of persons. The fluidity of imaginative play, the imitation of and creation of social practices and options within play as well as the opportunity to switch roles and act according to reasons of another, contribute to the development of judgment. The observer–critic role emerges during imaginative play as children produce, direct, and enact their dramas. Within these scenarios, children develop competence and eligibility to be not only status assigners but also self status assigners. During ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The self and self concept The psychoanalytic theorists (Freud, Erikson) see children playing out negative emotions in a safe context. Children are attempting to regain control in situations of conflict. Mead stresses the importance of role playing in children's play, which activity contributes to a child's sense of self (Verenikina et al, 2003). Erikson (1963, p.240) in describing a young client struggling with the wartime death of his father, a pilot, illustrates the healing value of play: "...he was observed swooping down a hill on a bicycle, endangering, scaring, yet deftly avoiding other children.... In watching him, and hearing the strange noises he made, I could not help thinking that he again imagined himself to be an airplane on a bombing mission. But at the same time he gained in playful mastery over his locomotion; he exercised circumspection in his attack, and he became an admired virtuoso on a bicycle." 259 Advances in Descriptive Psychology–Vol. 9 This description of a young boy playing imaginatively illustrates elements that theorists over the years have attributed to the value of play. His role play was distinctly social as others witnessed his attack, and his actions increased his stature, his prestige among his friends. His ability to handle the bike, his cognitive strength, "circumspection in his attack", as he swoops down the hill, is noted as well. His self esteem increased to the extent that he ... Quality Outdoor Play In the article "Quality Outdoor Play Space for young children" mentioned the importance of providing an opportunity for a high quality outdoor play space for children to move freely in their environment. It is critical to me to create an outdoor environment that children can have the liberty to move around safely and freely. The article discussed several categories that an outdoor play space needs in order to have a high quality environment. I believe it is important to create an outdoor atmosphere that encourages children to jump, run, climb, ride, kick, balance, explore, be loud, and take risks. Our outdoor play area has zone sections: an area with a large sandbox, a large open grass area, a playground structure area, and bike area. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. The LBC Play The LBC event I attended this weekend was, the play "The Boy Who Loved Monsters and The Girl Who Loved Peas". I attended the showing on Saturday at 7pm to 8pm. The play took place at the Sponberg Theatre. My reflective essay is about my experience with this play and comparing it with things I have experienced in life so far. Throughout the many different aspects of life, such as, school, family, friends and etc. Although it was for the younger audience there were some points throughout, that made a lot of sense to the more adult crowd. When I first heard the play I figured it was obviously centered around the title, but I was hoping for a little more to it. Once I read the description and it stated a family friendly play for children 4+, I knew I had to be in for some kind of treat. I figured I was going to be the only college student attending this play, then I walked in and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore the term heuristic play has been described by Elinor Goldschmied as an early stage of exploratory play where children enjoy filling and emptying, putting things in and taking them out and using different types of containers. As children grow their curiosity about the world develops and as babies begin to grow out of treasure baskets and are no longer content with simply holding and feeling, heuristic play is the natural progression to allow children to begin to understand what items do. Everyone is among the sea of eager faces to play. When we talk about play, the first thing we will think that the right of play is only a child does. You can play on your own or with a pet, but for greater benefits, play should involve at least one other person and away from the sensory–overload of electronic gadgets. In the first article the author refers to creative play as a way to help children learn how to express themselves and promote independent thinking. Whereas in the second article it states that organized activities are more important in the sense that they teach children things like commitment, teamwork, and devoloping healthy attitudes towards themselves. Initiating Play Activity Initiating Play Activities Social Skills Group Activity: Initiating Play Developed by Deborah Abelman, Ph.D., PTAN Project Staff Introduction: When we teach children the language to use in order to either invite other children into their play or to enter into other children's play, we often make the assumption that by knowing the right words to say, children should be able to initiate play. But to successfully get others to play requires the abilities to share ideas, negotiate, compromise, and to move on when told, "I don't want to play with you right now." Some children need direct teaching of these skills, while others may need reminder activities. For those children who appear to be competent in initiating play, these activities will ... At the end of this lesson tell the children, "I see you have learned how to ask your friends to play. Now it's time to record in our 'asking friends to play' journals what we've learned." You may decide to allow the children to continue to record in their "asking friends to play" journals on other occasions or you may tell them that they can take home their "listening" journals to share with their family. Social Skills Group Activity: Initiating Play Appendix A– Journal Writing Many early childhood classrooms include "journal writing" as part of their curriculum. This can be done in a variety of ways. You can use pre–made booklets or you can easily put together the booklets yourself. If you make the booklets you can include as many pages needed for the particular activity. For instance, for the "asking others to play" journal you can make the booklet six pages, one for each lesson. (If the child wants to do more than one page for a particular lesson, pages can be easily added.) To make the booklets: It is best to use unlined paper, as the children will be using pictures and other symbols to represent the ideas they are "writing" about. It is one room with just a hot plate. Also, the fact that "... Glen had parked his stuffs in the station", was another of the reasons his sister was giving in order to convince him to stay with their aunt. This did not sound as a good idea for Vuthy, to him; there was no reason that substantiated his staying around with their aunt. He saw all attempts as avenues of leaving him lonely again, which on realizing this, he fought as much as he could in order to avoid this. The theme of loneliness is also featured when their mother left them. She died some time back when Vuthy was still young. In her words, Ra expresses the reason why she died. She claims that Vuthy made their mother sick through "... being weird for not having friends" (Burroway, 2011). Therefore, she became sick because of that. Here, Vuthy is portrayed to be a Loney fellow, according to his sister, she is weird in her lonely nature. A nature that does not allow him to have friends. Some children engage in observational play and learning while others engage in social play. Children engage in different types of play that are inter–connected. I was aware of child–initiated play, parallel play and cooperative play but I did not consider observing as part of play. As a teacher, it is important for me to conduct observations to help me understand what stage a child is in during play, so I can help them bridge the child's play to the next stage, if necessary. According to my Observations Taylor is in the observational play stage which can lead to other play styles such as solitary, onlooker, parallel, associative play and cooperative play according to Parten's Stages of Play Robinson, Anderson, Porter, Hart, & Wouden–Miller, 2003.pp. 3–21.). Many people attempt to fake being Annie's parents, to get a reward but none of them succeed, and Annie finds her real family in the Warbucks, the billionaire that cares for her, and gets adopted by him and lives happily ever after. The play was very well done and was not dull even though it was catered to a large audience. The musical numbers are very entertaining, and the spectacle, both visual and emotional, is well accomplished. I would recommend this to most children and adults, due to the Christmas themes and general lightheartedness of the play. Two specific characters caught my eye as I watched Annie, one of them being Annie herself. The way she held herself like a child and radiatedoptimism assisted me in believing her character. Her gesticulations were good, but since I was in the back row, some of them were hard to see and interpret. Ms. Smith, an earlychildhood professor at Clemson University, spoke about why it is vital for teachers to create classrooms incorporating play and movement, gave some advice on how to achieve this, and told us when we could incorporate movement during the day. The most interesting new thing I learned during this session was about the Brain Derived Neurotrophic Factor; she compared this to "miracle grow for the brain." Basically, exercise encourages the growth of new neurons and synapses, thus increasing brain mass and mood regulation. She also spoke about Finland, a nation with the highest test scores in the world; their teachers give students a 15–minute break for physical activity for every 45 minutes of instruction. This shows that, despite what many educators and policymakers think, more recess time improves school performance. • 40. Play Critique The Doctor in Spite of Himself: The Doctor in Spite of Himself is a play that I had previously studied in France like many of MoliГЁre's plays. I thought that it was ironic for me to go see the play for the first time in theatre in the United States. I was really looking forward to hear how the actors would pronounce the characters' French names, which are rather exotic even for me. I think that because I had previously studied MoliГЁre's work in class, I was expecting this play to be performed in a much more traditional style. I was a little disconcerted at first when seeing the actors performing a more modern version than what I had in mind. I ended up liking what Arne Zaslove has done with the play. In my opinion, modernizing it a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I was not expecting the costumes to be as eccentric. Even though they were matching the characters' role and personality, I felt like they were too wacky and did not go well with the play. Throughout the play, I enjoyed the role of music used to set a comic atmosphere and replace the dialogs during comic scenes (e.g. when they chase each other around). I also thought that they made a good use of light to indicate the moment of the day the scene was happening or to set the atmosphere of the scene (e.g. pink colour during the romantic moments). Lastly, I liked the way the play ended. Even though it was a little messy with everyone running after each other off and on stage, and this policeman coming out of nowhere, which really surprised me; I couldn't think of a better way to end the play. Overall I think the actors and everyone involved in the making of this play did a very good job, even though I liked the performance of some actors better than others. The fact that this translation of the play was a more modern version original play made it more fun to watch according to me. Unfortunately, the fact that I was not able to fully understand the actors' dialog throughout the play made it less entertaining and agreeable for me to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. The Dispute Play An event that I went to this past week was the second theater show of TAMUC called, "The Dispute".The play was based on french literature playwright from Pierre de Carlet de Chamblain Marivaux. The play started showing on Tuesday of last week and ended on Sunday. I attended the show on Friday, and it was really interesting to the aspects of man and women that the play showed. The play did not really have a purpose to it. It was just an event that people came for the enjoyment of theater. Students, Staff and also people from the community attended this event seeing the stereotypes that the play showed for men and women. The stage showed a quite countryside park that was based on the year 2035 but was not futuristic at all, it was just a countryside ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Active Play While researching this website I found out a lot of useful and interesting information about play. The first thing I found on this website that was interesting was the active play section. Active play is a huge part of physical development for children. It will help with gross–motor skills, coordination, and sometimes fine–motor skills depending on the activity the child is doing. This also increases the child's health because of having an active lifestyle. This is really important today because most children are spending way too much time in front of electronic devices and don't get many opportunities to play outside. I also love that the active section gives you different ideas to develop physical skills. My favorite activity was Jumping Jack Syllables, which is kids doing jumping jacks whenever they hear a syllable. This activity is for children between the ages of 4–5. You could also adapt this activity with math by counting numbers and jumping at the same time. I really enjoyed this portion of the website because of all of the ideas it has as a preschool teacher and or parent. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This section talked about children expressing and regulating their feelings through play. They can sometimes express these feelings during imaginary play. Having children play together helps them develop control of their feelings while you guide them sometimes at a young age. It will help them develop empathy and understanding for others feelings. My favorite part of this section was Crafty Cards. Crafty Cards is making cards for your friends, family, or even pets. I would adapt this in my classroom by having them make a card for people in the classroom during the friendship week of school. This is a great activity for children between the ages of 3–5. This activity is helping the child move out of the egocentric stage of their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
