Good Morning Vietnam Analysis
In Good Morning Vietnam, the movie shows the story Adrian Cronauer and his experience as a radio
DJ in 1965 Vietnam. In the movie, Adrian is a witty and impulsive comic that likes to do his own
thing which does not go over well with the General Major who is in charge. However, Adrian's
comedy and wit help to make his radio shows entertaining for the troops and he becomes respected
among many of the men in the army. Although Adrian is censored, he still tried to inform the troops
and went against the normal protocol. Good Morning Vietnam gives a unique look into the war and
shows the frustration of both sides. The only villains that seem to arise are the ones who hold Adrian
back or the ones who are confused and angry at the misfortunate that had fallen upon their home in
Vietnam. Overall, this movie showed the good and bad sides of the war while also giving an inside
look into the experience of one man. The movie helped to showcase the main themes of conflict in
war, censorship of the news and events, and confusion among civilians and soldiers.
Although this movie does not showcase the time period using clothing or unique hairstyles, it
reflects the 60s through the different music that Adrian includes in his radio station. Adrian plays
songs from James Brown, the Beach Boys, and references icons of the time such as the Beatles and
the Rolling Stones. The rebellious nature of the music reflects not only Adrian's attitude, but also the
rebellion against the war that took off

Jackie Kennedy's Autobiography
In the 7th grade I had a crush on my history and geography teacher, Ms. Nail. She was in her early
to mid twenties, slim and attractive, I thought she could be Jackie Kennedy's sister. Wherever she
walked in the classroom I sat staring at her every move like a mannequin more infatuated than
interested in her assignments and she would not hesitate to call me out for not completing them.
While she was lecturing to our class about the Russian Revolution I was imagining the two of us
traveling to the Eiffel tower, she was my queen as I was laying my cape down for her – only to snap
back to reality as she exclaimed "David, are you with us or are you in some far away place again?"

An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge Analysis
I'm really enjoying our assigned readings so far in class. My favorite so far has been "An
Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge" by Bierce. I was not expecting the ending to this short story at all,
it caught me off–guard. I honestly did believe that Peyton Farquhar, the main character of the story,
managed to escaped his hanging by swimming away from the scene. What I did find sort of hard to
believe was how much Peyton was able to imagine right before his death. What I mean by this is
how he was able to imagine a whole escape plan that led him running all the way home to his wife,
all while he was in the process of getting hanged. The whole story was about five pages long but it
had a great amount of detail describing the events. I especially enjoyed this particular reading
because I was able to picture every single moment as I kept reading along. I like stories where I
know exactly what is going on and I'm able to picture everything in my head and just flow like a
movie would. This was one of those stories, especially after watching a Twilight Zone episode last
class about this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Again, I wasn't expecting that ending at all. I really sympathize with Mathilde and her husband
because they really didn't deserve to work that hard for just a necklace. Especially the husband, all
he really wanted to do was buy a gun so that he can go hunting in the summer. I wouldn't necessarily
say that Mathilde deserves those hard–working 10 years she lost to repay the lost necklace mainly
because it has always been in Mathilde's nature to want the best and dreams of other luxuries. I do,
however, blame her for the misfortune she brought upon her and her husband when she lost the
"fake" necklace. If she wasn't so demanding of things and would have settled with simply the dress
her husband bought for her in exchange of his gun dream, then for sure their lives would probably
have been a whole lot

Zombies Are Boring : The Zombie Plague
Zombies are boring. Despite the amount of creative freedom authors can exhibit in the fiction genre,
there is a singular, consistent, specific, and defining depiction of what is known as "the zombie."
The very uttering of this science fiction buzz–word conjures elaborate and imaginative images of
decomposing, slack–jawed, mindless creatures hungering for flesh. Their clothes are usually dirty
and ragged, their teeth stained yellow and red, the remnants of their last meal on their lips, and a
telltale missing limb or chunk of flesh from when they crossed from life into un–death. The manner
in which the zombie plague is passed will often differ: one of the earliest iterations of the zombie in
the 1932 movie The White Zombie were simply ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

(Whitehead 18–19). The amount of detail devoted to a single zombie is disproportionate compared
to most mainstream zombie depictions. To name a zombie, present that zombie with a backstory,
and to rationalize that zombie's presence is give the zombie human characteristics, and is to not
generically refer to the zombie as "it." The humanization of the zombies is fairly simple and
straightforward.
Zone One's dehumanization of the surviving remnants of society, however, is different. Most
apocalyptic narratives focus on how the apocalypse traumatizes the survivors into being less human.
Desperate times often call for depraved morals for the sake of survival: killing former humans,
killing and stealing from other humans, or even eating other humans. However, Zone One takes into
consideration not only the corruptions of humanity amidst the apocalypse, but also the underlying,
hidden vices that predated the emergence of the apocalypse. "Dehumanization" is defined as the
deprivation of human qualities, personality, or spirit, and this is applied by characterizing the pre–
apocalypse humans like zombies. "The skel [zombie] wore a morose and deeply stained pinstripe
suit, with a solid crimson tie and dark brown tasseled loafers... It was no

Redemption: Book And Movie Comparison
McKenzie Hoover Ms. Candelario 5 March, 2018 Class 3 Redemption People every day, all the
time, are put into situations that really test their character. It may be they're given two options and
they have to pick between one, or it may be how they act when something happens. Two huge
reactions people are faced with is redemption and revenge. Redemption is the action of coming back
from something and realizing what you can do on the spot, self–reflect. Revenge is the action of
retaliating and trying to make the person who hurt you feel as bad as they made you feel. Three
pieces of work I am going to use as evidence is: the story A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah, an
episode in The Twilight Zone, and the movie John Q. Redemption is a better and more effective
approach to handle things over revenge. One example of redemption being the better option than
revenge is in the book A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah when he wrote about his experience with
war in his own country. At a young age he was challenged with fighting and being brainwashed into
thinking he was doing the right thing by killing people who were fighting against the government of

Similarities Between The Matrix And Lego's Cave
The Lego Movie and Plato's Cave Plato's cave has been a subject of interest for some time now.
Many shows and movies portray the allegory in a form and way in modern society, whether it is
from "The Matrix", all the way to certain episodes from "The Twilight Zone". However, one would
not expect such an allegory about questioning life and existence itself would be present in a movie
about Lego's. In the first part of the paper, the allegory is explained. Furthermore, in the body, the
plot of the movie will be discussed and how it relates to the allegory. Plato's Cave goes like this;

Now, that might sound childish in the beginning, but it is one of those fantastic movies that really
stick with the viewer, both story and plot wise. The story is about this builder Lego, named Emmet,
who lives his every day, ordinary routine life of a Lego builder. Every day he wakes up, does the
same routine of going to work, getting coffee (dubbed overly priced coffee), drives in a line to work,
and works at a construction site. The entire city follows the same routine of working and drinking
coffee and driving in lines to work places, singing a song about how everything is awesome. Later
on, Emmet finds out he is "the special one" when a master builder named Wildstyle finds "the piece
of resistance" stuck on his back when he fell in a hole near the construction site. Wildstyle informs
Emmet about their president Lord Business who wishes to control the lives of the people, he
provides Taco Tuesdays to brainwash the workers and gives them specific instruction on how to live
their lives, everyone is assigned a routine. This review of the plot doesn't give the movie justice
about how deep it is. After countless adventures with Lego batman and other master Lego builders
such as superman, Emmet finally faces Lord business in his tower of infinite altitude (the tower
keeps going up) and finds out the secret plan was to use the "kragel" (super glue) to make everyone

Revenge Vs. Redemption In A Poison Tree By Langston Hughes
In almost every book, movie, or tall tale there is a protagonist who has to get back at the antagonist.
Now, to narrow it down there's two ways that they can handle their foe: either revenge or
redemption. Revenge is the obvious harsh way of going at things while redemption is the calmer
way but it is harder to do. So, when it comes between the two redemption is the better option
because not only could you change a person, you could also stop future problems. To start off, as
brought up in the last paragraph, redemption is harder to do but is still the better way to go about
things. The main reason being that it requires much more patience since people can be stubborn and
in denial. This doesn't mean give up, it means to wait until people realize they need to change. In the
poem "I, too" by Langston Hughes the reader is shown how the character in the poem gets left out of
a lot of things that everyone else can be a part of but this does not anger the character. They find it
humorous as they say "But I laugh" and show no rush ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now, say that the same situation is applied to a different poem, this time the character takes revenge
on the people because they are angry with how they are treated. What would happen then? Reading
some lines from the poem "A Poison Tree" by William Blake we can see that the end result is not
very joyful. Not to be taken literally the last two lines read, "In the morning glad I see, My foe
stretched beneath the tree", meaning the protagonist ruined part of the antagonist's life in some way.
This obviously only fixes things temporarily because hypothetically the enemy will go after the
main character again. Now, the only way revenge would be okay is if it got rid of the problem
completely. For example, if you take the lines literally then the character kills their foe, ending their
problem, and is now left with not much to worry about. At least in this

The Totalitarian Control of a Three-Year Old: a Contextual...
Jerome Bixby's 'It's a Good Life' is a short story following an unusually gifted, three–year–old boy
named Anthony Fremont. In spite of his age, Anthony has the capacity to transform other people or
objects into anything he wishes, think new things into being, teleport himself and others where he
wishes, read the minds of people and animals and even revive the dead. If either citizens or animals
of the area do not comply with Anthony's capricious whim, grim consequences occur, often Anthony
placing his victims into cornfields to their grave or 'vaporized' into largely soulless bodies, as the
case of Amy Fremont. Bixby's allows Anthony to gain a heightened power and authority over the
small Ohio town because the townspeople regard him in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This appeasement is central to the broader context of the short story and provides irony to it's title,
as the town 's population must not only act content with the situation when near him, but also think
they are happy at all times. Anthony's shows characteristics of ruthlessness and adulation with his
encounter of Hollis and the partygoers, the reader can compare that historical dictators such as Stalin
and Hitler had been similarly "quite ruthless...and the object of as much adulation" (Spender, 218).
The ruthlessness that harbors party attendees' appeasement also transcends to the fear that the
townspeople and partygoers have towards Anthony's total control. The reader can find the Bixby's
portrayal of fear of Anthony in the absence of the details and in Anthony's presentation. Indeed,
nothing Bixby could come up with is as chilling to the reader as the details and images that will
appear, summoned, from the depths of their imaginations. When Anthony "thought Dan Hollis into
something like nothing anyone would have believed possible...thought the thing into a grave, deep,
deep in the cornfield" (Bixby, 446) – the resemblance of a banishment to GULAG or Nazi
concentration camp should be remarked (Spender, 219), but the reader is not sure of the specific
implications, but one understands the terror by the partygoers' response and Anthony's purple gaze

Comparing Miriam And Nothing In The Dark
In the short story"Miriam" by Truman Capote and "The Twilight Zone" episode "nothing in the
dark" by Rod Serling, the characters must face their fear of death. In both stories an elderly woman
lives alone and encounters of a messenger of death. The characters of miriam and Harold are both
resistant; however, that's where the resemblance ends. On the other hand, Mrs. Miller and wanda are
very much the same, sharing loneliness and fear. H&M both ask for favors. M asks Mrs.M to buy
her a movie ticket, make her a sandwich, and to give her a cameo. However Harold asks for help
later asks for Wanda's trust. This is the only way characters trait they share M is selfish but Harold is
compassionate. For example M demands to be given the cameo

Science Fiction : The Twilight Zone
Science fiction has had many notable cult television shows. Two of the most influential and popular
shows were the timely Twilight Zone (1959–1964) and the cult favorite The X–Files (1994–2002).
Both have been staples in popular culture by reflecting on social structure and politics through the
use of science fiction. (Booker). By comparing the two shows, I will showcase how science fiction
became the most influential genre in television history. Science fiction was a genre not very
popularized until the emergence of The Twilight Zone. Creator Rod Serling created the science
fiction anthology series The Twilight Zone during the 2nd Paradigm Shift to express his political
views and criticize Americans. He addressed issues not commonly found on TV at the time such as
mass hysteria, McCarthyism, and nuclear war. (Hilmes). Some would say that Newton Minow's
speech "A Vast Wasteland" criticizing TV influenced the show greatly. At a time when sitcoms and
game shows dominated the screen, The Twilight Zone stood out because of its social themes. This
show was not successful at first because of the controversial topics it took on. However, throughout
the course of its airing it grew in the hearts of Americans because of its thought provoking themes.
(Stoler) It became so popular that it even inspired theme park attractions. This was a large feat for
any show let alone a science fiction anthology series. Although color was available, Serling wanted
to keep the show entirely black

ourselfs without us not even knowing what we become.Power and imagination can sometimes lead
to very bad endings. In the book Lord of the flies By William Golding this allegory talks about kids
on an island discovering the true beast. Also in the t.v series The Twilight Zone: "Monsters Due On
Maple Street." By Rod Serling, this sci–fi episode of many is about a whole street getting
crazy, pointing fingers at one another because they think that one of them is an alien, and are there to
take them away. To begin with, in the book The Lord of the Flies the two groups of boys are drawn
by their own imagination and create the beast within themselves. The boys imagine that the beast is
actually in one of the caves on the island. They are so scared of this beast that they start thinking
their own friends are the beast, and get to the point of killing many boys.By the time they realize
they are their own beast it is too late and many kids have been lost. The younger boys have no choice
but to go with who is superior and who they see as a leader although he might be cruel.

Gender Stereotypes In Rod Serling's The Twilight Zone
Most qualities revered in people are subjective, and leadership is one of these traits. However, does
not have to be a symptom of anything negative and in fact, allows for an every human being to
revere a unique person if they so wanted. A few specific people have garnered much attention in the
recent centuries for their works and endeavor, among them a man who is commonly said to be one
of the forefathers of science fiction television. Rod Serling, the creator of the Twilight Zone, was a
visionary man who turned hardships into stories that would influence those before and after death.

His liberal viewpoints were forged from hardships of the second World War, which would cause him

turned to the commonly overlooked genre of science fiction. Censorship continued to haunt him
though, with many works were turned into a feather duster of what they should have been originally,
much too his own dismay. Nevertheless, Serling stood by his works, having used them to inspire
others during his time to hopefully spread more broadminded beliefs. Far outshooting his original

Cold War Era Movie Assignment
Cold War Era Movie Assignment
The movie/TV clips that we watched in class were all made between the years 1954 and 1964.
World War II and The Cold War between The Soviet Union and the United States became the
subject of many TV shows and movies of the time period. The paranoia and fear of communism and
nuclear war was very real in the 1950's/1960's and it shaped the cultures of both the United States
and the Soviet Union.
You will be asked questions not only about the clips you will view but how they relate to World War
II and The Cold War. You must use the historical events and facts that we have covered in class in
your answers.
Guiding Question:
What do you think the attitude of Americans was towards Germans and Russians during this period
of time? How did movies and television affect their opinions?
"Gojira" (Godzilla) 1954 and "Them!" (1954)
1) What is the Japanese film "Gojira" trying to warn the world about? What happened in 1945 that
influenced this film?
The Japanese film "Gojira" was made in the early 1950's, shortly after WW2 and the 2 atomic
bombs dropped on Japan. The nuclear bombs American forces dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki
left a sore spot in Japanese society. It reminded and allowed Japanese citizens to relive the horrible
horrors that occurred after the blast.
2) What do you think the Japanese opinion of nuclear war was in the aftermath of World War II?
Why?

The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street Analysis
The Monsters are Due on Maple Street is an episode which takes places in an American suburb
when suddenly a meteor object flies over head and afterwards all the electricity on the street goes
dead. As the residents become more and more paranoid, they start accusing one another of being
"aliens" and in cahoots with the UFO that was seen early. The paranoia heightens until one resident
shoots and kills another, at which point all out hysteria breaks out, as the actual aliens watch the
town from a hilltop destroy each other. This episode aired in 1960 – ten years after Joseph McCarthy
first gained traction for accusing the U.S. State Department of harboring communists – is widely
seen as a direct reference to McCarthyism and the Red Scare. Continuing the ... Show more content

I see the underlying message of this episode to be that while the external threat of the Soviet Union
was legitimate during the time of the Cold War, the largest threat would be destroying each other
from the inside out with prejudices and paranoia, the same way the residents on Maple Street did as
the Aliens looked on. The final example I wish to draw on serves as an example for South African
Apartheid. The Science Fiction movie District 9 starts thirty years after aliens arrive on Earth, not to
wage war or to acquire resources, but to find refuge from their planet that is dying. Most humans are
not concerned with the welfare of these extraterrestrials, but to figure out how to master their

through many changes during their adolescent developmental years, including cognitive, emotional,
and social development. Isabella Swan, the main character of the movie Twilight, shows the
audience a great visual representation of how she goes through emerging adulthood. Isabella, or
Bella for short, is a teen girl in high school who just moved to a new city, Forks, Washington, with
her father whom she had not seen since she was a child. After her mom made the decision to move
from their home in Arizona and travel the country with her husband who played baseball, Bella was

She does, however, have a desire to learn new things and achieve great accomplishments. On the
other hand, Bella lacks the desire to be an active member of a social group, usually distancing
herself from many of her friends. Another thing to note in this category is that all of Bella's new
friends in her high school were the ones to pursue the friendship while she simply accepted the offer.
This proves that Bella is extremely self–dependent. Continuing in Vygotsky's cognitive development
theories, Bella successfully shows the audience a multitude of examples of his theories. The second
theory, private speech, which Vygotsky believed was the most powerful tool when it comes to
human learning. Bella does not use private speech in the typical way it is meant to be used, rather
she uses it to help herself through difficult and challenging situations she was faced with. An
example of this is when Bella spoke quietly to herself while researching vampires after her intuition
that Edward Cullen, an isolated and mysterious peer turned boyfriend, was one. Lastly, the
scaffolding theory, which is also presented in an unusual way in the movie. Rather than Bella
experiencing scaffolding through an apprenticeship and higher education, she uses Edward as a
mentor–like figure into the vampire world. For example, after Edward shows Bella his super speed
and ability to jump long distances, she is breath taken. She says "things aren't like this

Darren Aronofsky is a film maker who has made a variety of films throughout his career. He has
worked as the director, producer, and writer on different films and he has experience in several

1227). Serling also wrote for and produced multiple other television shows throughout his career.
Aronofsky has cited Serling as one of his influences for his own film work, specifically stating that
two of his favorite episodes of The Twilight Zone were "Eye of the Beholder" and "Back There"
(Carli, 1998). "Eye of the Beholder" is "a shocking morality lesson about the perception of beauty"
(Presnell & McGee, 1998, p. 19). In this paper I will discuss what parts of Aronofsky's films appear
to be taking influence from Serling and why they take influence from The Twilight Zone. Serling
and Aronofsky have left their mark on the industry and part of the reason they have both done so is
because of The Twilight Zone.
Darren Aronofsky's Pi
Aronofsky's first feature film was the work Pi. The film follows Max Cohen, who is a genius
mathematician. Pi is based around Max's search for a secret 216–digit number that is sought after by
several different groups. One of the two main groups that are after Max's work is a group of agents
from Wall Street who want the number in order to help them solve the stock market so that they can
be rich. The other group is a group of Jews who want the number because they believe it is their
path to god. The movie shows Max's struggles with his own genius and with the groups that are after
his genius ability.

The Theme Of Conformity In Fahrenheit 451
How can a society tell if a state or higher power is reasonable in their laws? This is an idea that the
main characters in a dystopian society often struggle with. The novel "Fahrenheit 451," by Ray
Bradbury, tells of a government which controls the intake of knowledge of the people. When one
fireman, Montag, opposes his own occupation by reading illegal literature, his life drastically
changes. Similarly, The LEGO Movie revolves around Emmett, an ordinary construction worker
who strays from his city life, heavily controlled by President Business, after accidentally involving
himself with master builders, a group of people focused on rebelling the state's law. The state in the
television special "The Twilight Zone: Eye of the Beholder" terrorizes ... Show more content on

Specifically, ignorance becomes an effect of the conformity, and conformists learn to blindly accept
information without questioning the truth behind the statement. In F451, the state issues a ban of
books, and therefore knowledge, not approved by the government. The citizens obey, though they
have no evidence to support the government's decision. As a result, they burn artifacts of literature
and history simply because they are told to do so. The state assures the people that through a lack of
change, the people will become content with their lifestyles, and the people are so focused on this
false information that they deny their unhappiness even to themselves. This is shown when Mildred
denies her own suicide attempt just to keep up the impression that she is happy. The LEGO Movie is
quite similar in regards to conformity. Conformity is an extreme part of the society of the movie; the
state even establishes a manual to tell people the steps they should take to live a satisfied lifestyle.
The belief that a lack of change will equal happiness is pertinent here as well. The state bans
building, just as the state in F451 does for books, to prevent free thought and rebellion. Just as the
other group of citizens did, these citizens obey without proper justification. This ignorance gets to a
point where the main character, Emmett, is completely lost without his instructions; he is unsure of
the correct response to an undiscovered area. The instruction manual instills a fear of change in the
citizens as a result. Additionally, since people conform to the point where they dress like the rest of
the population and listen to the same music, there is no room for individuality, and certain
characters, such as Emmett, lose themselves in the process. Although a change of the mind occurs in
the previous works, the television special is, quite

Jerry Goldsmith Accomplishments
Jerry Goldsmith is a well–known name when it comes to the musical world. As an American
composer and conductor he has composed many pieces of music and films. His music is one of a
kind it always gets your attention. I chose Jerry Goldsmith because I enjoyed some of the films he

Rappaport and Morris Goldsmith. By the age of six his parents had him studying the piano and gave

He died from cancer on July 21, 2004, in Beverly Hills, California. Jerry completed his last score in
2003 for "Looney Tunes: Back in Action." Throughout his entire career he was nominated for the
Academy Award eighteen times, the Grammy Award six times, and the Golden Globe Award four
times. Goldsmith also won an Oscar for his revolutionary score for "The Omen" and he received
five Emmy Awards. The few music films I enjoy by Goldsmith is Planet of the Apes, the Star Trek
series and Looney Tunes: Back in Action. In Planet of the Apes he did an amazing job with the
piano giving it much sound effects. This movie is one of the most memorable movie moments in the
history of cinema because of Jerry Goldsmith's ground breaking musical contribution. Goldsmith's
musical piece focuses on the drama that the apes experienced in modern day America, with both Zia
and Cornelius getting a delicate melody all to themselves. Planet of the Apes later became a sequel.
Jerry Goldsmith made many pieces of music for the Star Trek series. He composed Star Trek: The

A Comparison Of Gothicism InThe Fall Of The House Of Usher...
Question 1
When I hear the word Gothicism I quickly think of vampires and the paranormal. Gothicism makes
us feel uncomfortable and turns that sense of weird to outright strange. There are two literatures that
really show this weird to strange comparison which is "The Fall of the House of Usher" and
"Ligeia" both of which were written by Edgar Allan Poe. Both works have this preternatural vibe
which reminds me of the vampire diaries due to the line or link between the natural and the super
natural. I find that in Poe's stories we as readers could read it in many different ways. Hints like the
noises in the house from the Fall of the House of Usher makes us think its Rodericks dead sister, in
fact it was actually the house falling apart. Though how can one know a house is falling apart if one
is addicted to opium and bed ridden. And if the opium was not enough to kill someone what about
the fungi which produces carbon dioxide. I believe if we put opium and carbon dioxide together
there is defiantly weird turning into outright strange. Ligeia on the other hand reminds me of
something out of a Stephen King book, the popular book/movie IT immediately came to mind due
the background of IT. In short IT was actually from another dimension/planet and the name Ligeia
sounds like something from another dimension/planet as well. The thing that makes Ligeia so
noticable is her eyes, Poe said it best by describing her eyes as mysterious "For eyes we have no

Ambrose Biierce Writing Style
The writing style of Ambrose Bierce can essentially be depicted as bitter. His stories include the
1891 story "Chickamauga", the 1891 story "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge" and the adapted
"An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge" Twilight Zone film in 1964. Both stories had some kind of
incongruity or plot twist that made his stories fascinating. Occasions throughout his life molded his
view on the world. This perspective reaches out into his written work when he takes a gander at the
sharp side of the world in a large portion of his stories and into the aspects of death. The story
"Chickamauga" tells of a small boy who with a toy sword who wanders off into the woods to fight
invisible foes. The boy strays too far and evidently becomes lost and lies down to rest and sleeps for
several hours. Soon after he awakes he is joined by hundreds of dead or wounded soldiers and rather

The movie I am Legend is a great movie. I really enjoy I am Legend because it is a story about

becoming human again, but the other infected started beating on the glass trying to break their way
into the room. So Robert takes a blood sample, which has the cure in it, of the captured infected

the cure to other scientists and fix it all. He then shuts the door and pulls a grenade out of a desk
drawer. Looking at all the infected in the room he pulls the pin and opens the door ending his life
and killing all the infected in the area. Anna and Ethan then find their way to other people and
scientists and were able to save the world because of the work of Robert Neville. In my opinion, the
movie I am Legend is a fantastic movie for many reasons being from plot, to characters, and to the
producer. The plot was based on a 1954 horror book I am Legend by Richard Matheson. This story
is what he is most well–known for and made him popular. Richard had many great works and those
got him the chance to write sixteen episodes for the popular television show The Twilight Zone.
This television show aired from 1959 to 1964 with five seasons and 156 episodes. Making the book
into a movie shows that it was a good enough story to get to

Conformity And Ignorance In Fahrenheit 451
Conformity and ignorance go hand in hand. Fahrenheit 451, The Lego Movie, and The Twilight
Zone's 'Obsolete Man' are all prime examples of this statement. It is glaringly obvious in Fahrenheit
451, specifically when Clarisse is talking to Montag about how her uncle was arrested for driving
slow. He was complying with all the rules and regulations of his society, yet he was still arrested.
This is because he wouldn't conform to what everyone else was doing. Mildred mentions in the book
that when she needs to let out her anger she drives around fast and kills animals in the road. This is a
stark contrast to Clarisse's uncle, who wanted to drive slow in order to appreciate the beauty of life,
not destroy it. This labels Clarisse's uncle as a non–conformist, something so dangerous that you can
be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Those who don't fit into society's ideals are cut out and excluded from everyone else. The main
character, Emmett, is so desperate to be a part of the team that he tries excruciatingly hard to fit in
with everyone else. Everyone in society is so mind–numbingly ignorant that even when President
Business suggests that on 'Taco Tuesday' everyone is going to get killed, on live TV, the only person
who catches the freudian slip is Emmett. This shows how society conforms so heavily that they've
become ignorant and it's dangerous to be a conformist because they are willingly leading themselves
into getting killed. (mention history books to connect to obsolete man). Similarly, in a Twilight Zone
episode titled 'Obsolete Man', everyone conforms to everyone else in society. The government puts
out the history books in order to keep people feeling ignorant and uneducated. They can also
influence the way that people view the government and history by saying different things in the
history books. When the state (The Chancellor) declares that God isn't real and Romney suggests
otherwise, he is punished. Romney also confesses that he is a librarian and he is

Personal Narrative: The Bearded Man
I was trapped on the floor of a mystical ocean. Those whom I respected, rather than rescuing me,
raised the sea–level higher and higher. I was told to believe in a potbellied, rosy–cheeked, bearded
man from the north who was watching, recording, judging my every move, deciding my fate on that
one special day. I wished to impress this man, yet feared his objection. The hope of a reward from
this man, encouraged me to live a friendly life. The media perpetuated my fascination with this
bearded man, with movie after movie reinforcing his mystical existence. This exposure swelled into
a riptide, yanking me further into the ocean floor. As time progressed, I began to question lower–
level entities. By doing so, I was finally able to propel my body ... Show more content on

With this philosophical approach, my questions became assertions. The loop of rope slipped off my
ankle and I soared to the surface. Gasping for air, I was awestruck by the sunrise's immense beauty. I
no longer had stress over his judgement, nor lived in mysticism. I do not regret the loss of this
burden, but do empathize for those who are still drowning. I regularly attempt to dive down and
untie his servants, but their stubbornness makes the knots tighter, the anchors heavier. For a short
period, I even loosely reattached my anchor, wanting to follow the majority, only to relapse about
the reality above

Good Morning Vietnam Analysis

  • 1. Good Morning Vietnam Analysis In Good Morning Vietnam, the movie shows the story Adrian Cronauer and his experience as a radio DJ in 1965 Vietnam. In the movie, Adrian is a witty and impulsive comic that likes to do his own thing which does not go over well with the General Major who is in charge. However, Adrian's comedy and wit help to make his radio shows entertaining for the troops and he becomes respected among many of the men in the army. Although Adrian is censored, he still tried to inform the troops and went against the normal protocol. Good Morning Vietnam gives a unique look into the war and shows the frustration of both sides. The only villains that seem to arise are the ones who hold Adrian back or the ones who are confused and angry at the misfortunate that had fallen upon their home in Vietnam. Overall, this movie showed the good and bad sides of the war while also giving an inside look into the experience of one man. The movie helped to showcase the main themes of conflict in war, censorship of the news and events, and confusion among civilians and soldiers. Although this movie does not showcase the time period using clothing or unique hairstyles, it reflects the 60s through the different music that Adrian includes in his radio station. Adrian plays songs from James Brown, the Beach Boys, and references icons of the time such as the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. The rebellious nature of the music reflects not only Adrian's attitude, but also the rebellion against the war that took off ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge Analysis I'm really enjoying our assigned readings so far in class. My favorite so far has been "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge" by Bierce. I was not expecting the ending to this short story at all, it caught me off–guard. I honestly did believe that Peyton Farquhar, the main character of the story, managed to escaped his hanging by swimming away from the scene. What I did find sort of hard to believe was how much Peyton was able to imagine right before his death. What I mean by this is how he was able to imagine a whole escape plan that led him running all the way home to his wife, all while he was in the process of getting hanged. The whole story was about five pages long but it had a great amount of detail describing the events. I especially enjoyed this particular reading because I was able to picture every single moment as I kept reading along. I like stories where I know exactly what is going on and I'm able to picture everything in my head and just flow like a movie would. This was one of those stories, especially after watching a Twilight Zone episode last class about this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Again, I wasn't expecting that ending at all. I really sympathize with Mathilde and her husband because they really didn't deserve to work that hard for just a necklace. Especially the husband, all he really wanted to do was buy a gun so that he can go hunting in the summer. I wouldn't necessarily say that Mathilde deserves those hard–working 10 years she lost to repay the lost necklace mainly because it has always been in Mathilde's nature to want the best and dreams of other luxuries. I do, however, blame her for the misfortune she brought upon her and her husband when she lost the "fake" necklace. If she wasn't so demanding of things and would have settled with simply the dress her husband bought for her in exchange of his gun dream, then for sure their lives would probably have been a whole lot ... • 7. Zombies Are Boring : The Zombie Plague Zombies are boring. Despite the amount of creative freedom authors can exhibit in the fiction genre, there is a singular, consistent, specific, and defining depiction of what is known as "the zombie." The very uttering of this science fiction buzz–word conjures elaborate and imaginative images of decomposing, slack–jawed, mindless creatures hungering for flesh. Their clothes are usually dirty and ragged, their teeth stained yellow and red, the remnants of their last meal on their lips, and a telltale missing limb or chunk of flesh from when they crossed from life into un–death. The manner in which the zombie plague is passed will often differ: one of the earliest iterations of the zombie in the 1932 movie The White Zombie were simply ... The amount of detail devoted to a single zombie is disproportionate compared to most mainstream zombie depictions. To name a zombie, present that zombie with a backstory, and to rationalize that zombie's presence is give the zombie human characteristics, and is to not generically refer to the zombie as "it." The humanization of the zombies is fairly simple and straightforward. Zone One's dehumanization of the surviving remnants of society, however, is different. Most apocalyptic narratives focus on how the apocalypse traumatizes the survivors into being less human. Desperate times often call for depraved morals for the sake of survival: killing former humans, killing and stealing from other humans, or even eating other humans. However, Zone One takes into consideration not only the corruptions of humanity amidst the apocalypse, but also the underlying, hidden vices that predated the emergence of the apocalypse. "Dehumanization" is defined as the deprivation of human qualities, personality, or spirit, and this is applied by characterizing the pre– apocalypse humans like zombies. It may be they're given two options and they have to pick between one, or it may be how they act when something happens. Two huge reactions people are faced with is redemption and revenge. Redemption is the action of coming back from something and realizing what you can do on the spot, self–reflect. Revenge is the action of retaliating and trying to make the person who hurt you feel as bad as they made you feel. Three pieces of work I am going to use as evidence is: the story A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah, an episode in The Twilight Zone, and the movie John Q. • 16. Revenge Vs. Redemption In A Poison Tree By Langston Hughes In almost every book, movie, or tall tale there is a protagonist who has to get back at the antagonist. Now, to narrow it down there's two ways that they can handle their foe: either revenge or redemption. Revenge is the obvious harsh way of going at things while redemption is the calmer way but it is harder to do. So, when it comes between the two redemption is the better option because not only could you change a person, you could also stop future problems. To start off, as brought up in the last paragraph, redemption is harder to do but is still the better way to go about things. The main reason being that it requires much more patience since people can be stubborn and in denial. This doesn't mean give up, it means to wait until people realize they need to change. In the poem "I, too" by Langston Hughes the reader is shown how the character in the poem gets left out of a lot of things that everyone else can be a part of but this does not anger the character. Not to be taken literally the last two lines read, "In the morning glad I see, My foe stretched beneath the tree", meaning the protagonist ruined part of the antagonist's life in some way. This obviously only fixes things temporarily because hypothetically the enemy will go after the main character again. Now, the only way revenge would be okay is if it got rid of the problem completely. • 20. Science Fiction : The Twilight Zone Science fiction has had many notable cult television shows. Two of the most influential and popular shows were the timely Twilight Zone (1959–1964) and the cult favorite The X–Files (1994–2002). Both have been staples in popular culture by reflecting on social structure and politics through the use of science fiction. (Booker). By comparing the two shows, I will showcase how science fiction became the most influential genre in television history. Science fiction was a genre not very popularized until the emergence of The Twilight Zone. Creator Rod Serling created the science fiction anthology series The Twilight Zone during the 2nd Paradigm Shift to express his political views and criticize Americans. He addressed issues not commonly found on TV at the time such as mass hysteria, McCarthyism, and nuclear war. (Hilmes). Some would say that Newton Minow's speech "A Vast Wasteland" criticizing TV influenced the show greatly. At a time when sitcoms and game shows dominated the screen, The Twilight Zone stood out because of its social themes. This show was not successful at first because of the controversial topics it took on. However, throughout the course of its airing it grew in the hearts of Americans because of its thought provoking themes. (Stoler) It became so popular that it even inspired theme park attractions. This was a large feat for any show let alone a science fiction anthology series. Although color was available, Serling wanted to keep the show entirely black ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The nuclear bombs American forces dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki left a sore spot in Japanese society. • 25. The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street Analysis The Monsters are Due on Maple Street is an episode which takes places in an American suburb when suddenly a meteor object flies over head and afterwards all the electricity on the street goes dead. As the residents become more and more paranoid, they start accusing one another of being "aliens" and in cahoots with the UFO that was seen early. The paranoia heightens until one resident shoots and kills another, at which point all out hysteria breaks out, as the actual aliens watch the town from a hilltop destroy each other. The final example I wish to draw on serves as an example for South African Apartheid. The Science Fiction movie District 9 starts thirty years after aliens arrive on Earth, not to wage war or to acquire resources, but to find refuge from their planet that is dying. Isabella Swan, the main character of the movie Twilight, shows the audience a great visual representation of how she goes through emerging adulthood. Isabella, or Bella for short, is a teen girl in high school who just moved to a new city, Forks, Washington, with her father whom she had not seen since she was a child. After her mom made the decision to move from their home in Arizona and travel the country with her husband who played baseball, Bella was shipped off to her dad's to finish out high school like a "normal kid." ... On the other hand, Bella lacks the desire to be an active member of a social group, usually distancing herself from many of her friends. Another thing to note in this category is that all of Bella's new friends in her high school were the ones to pursue the friendship while she simply accepted the offer. This proves that Bella is extremely self–dependent. Continuing in Vygotsky's cognitive development theories, Bella successfully shows the audience a multitude of examples of his theories. The second theory, private speech, which Vygotsky believed was the most powerful tool when it comes to human learning. Bella does not use private speech in the typical way it is meant to be used, rather she uses it to help herself through difficult and challenging situations she was faced with. An example of this is when Bella spoke quietly to herself while researching vampires after her intuition that Edward Cullen, an isolated and mysterious peer turned boyfriend, was one. Lastly, the scaffolding theory, which is also presented in an unusual way in the movie. Rather than Bella experiencing scaffolding through an apprenticeship and higher education, she uses Edward as a mentor–like figure into the vampire world. For example, after Edward shows Bella his super speed and ability to jump long distances, she is breath taken. She says "things aren't like this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Aronofsky has cited Serling as one of his influences for his own film work, specifically stating that two of his favorite episodes of The Twilight Zone were "Eye of the Beholder" and "Back There" (Carli, 1998). "Eye of the Beholder" is "a shocking morality lesson about the perception of beauty" (Presnell & McGee, 1998, p. 19). In this paper I will discuss what parts of Aronofsky's films appear to be taking influence from Serling and why they take influence from The Twilight Zone. • 29. The Theme Of Conformity In Fahrenheit 451 How can a society tell if a state or higher power is reasonable in their laws? This is an idea that the main characters in a dystopian society often struggle with. The novel "Fahrenheit 451," by Ray Bradbury, tells of a government which controls the intake of knowledge of the people. When one fireman, Montag, opposes his own occupation by reading illegal literature, his life drastically changes. Similarly, The LEGO Movie revolves around Emmett, an ordinary construction worker who strays from his city life, heavily controlled by President Business, after accidentally involving himself with master builders, a group of people focused on rebelling the state's law. Specifically, ignorance becomes an effect of the conformity, and conformists learn to blindly accept information without questioning the truth behind the statement. In F451, the state issues a ban of books, and therefore knowledge, not approved by the government. The citizens obey, though they have no evidence to support the government's decision. As a result, they burn artifacts of literature and history simply because they are told to do so. The state assures the people that through a lack of change, the people will become content with their lifestyles, and the people are so focused on this false information that they deny their unhappiness even to themselves. This is shown when Mildred denies her own suicide attempt just to keep up the impression that she is happy. The LEGO Movie is quite similar in regards to conformity. Conformity is an extreme part of the society of the movie; the state even establishes a manual to tell people the steps they should take to live a satisfied lifestyle. The belief that a lack of change will equal happiness is pertinent here as well. The state bans building, just as the state in F451 does for books, to prevent free thought and rebellion. Just as the other group of citizens did, these citizens obey without proper justification. This ignorance gets to a point where the main character, Emmett, is completely lost without his instructions; he is unsure of the correct response to an undiscovered area. The instruction manual instills a fear of change in the citizens as a result. Additionally, since people conform to the point where they dress like the rest of the population and listen to the same music, there is no room for individuality, and certain characters, such as Emmett, lose themselves in the process. • 32. A Comparison Of Gothicism InThe Fall Of The House Of Usher... Question 1 When I hear the word Gothicism I quickly think of vampires and the paranormal. Gothicism makes us feel uncomfortable and turns that sense of weird to outright strange. There are two literatures that really show this weird to strange comparison which is "The Fall of the House of Usher" and "Ligeia" both of which were written by Edgar Allan Poe. Both works have this preternatural vibe which reminds me of the vampire diaries due to the line or link between the natural and the super natural. I find that in Poe's stories we as readers could read it in many different ways. Hints like the noises in the house from the Fall of the House of Usher makes us think its Rodericks dead sister, in fact it was actually the house falling apart. Though how can one know a house is falling apart if one is addicted to opium and bed ridden. And if the opium was not enough to kill someone what about the fungi which produces carbon dioxide. I believe if we put opium and carbon dioxide together there is defiantly weird turning into outright strange. Ligeia on the other hand reminds me of something out of a Stephen King book, the popular book/movie IT immediately came to mind due the background of IT. In short IT was actually from another dimension/planet and the name Ligeia sounds like something from another dimension/planet as well. The thing that makes Ligeia so noticable is her eyes, Poe said it best by describing her eyes as mysterious "For eyes we have no models in the remotely ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Both stories had some kind of incongruity or plot twist that made his stories fascinating. Occasions throughout his life molded his view on the world.
