Reflection Paper Before I took this class, I felt that I was a good Christian. I followed the rules, prayed, did what was expected of me by my
parents, society, and God. My life seemed put together and organized. I had laid out what I believed at the time to be my goals and aspirations,

If He can die for me, I can't shrink from my own calling. So, with this example, I have the responsibility to seek God's will in my life. Disregarding this
would responsibility would be disobedience, sin. Jeremiah 29:11 assured me that God indeed has a specific purpose for my life, "For I know the plans
I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, but to give hope and a future." Jeremiah goes on to spell out how to

Significance After reviewing the context and the meaning of the passage in Colossians, the significance and contemporary application can be
discovered. The significance of a passage can help determine the relationship between the meaning and the reader. In essence, the last step in bridging
the gap that separates modern man from the ancient text is to determine the significance of a passage. The meaning of scripture is stable and does not
change, but significance, in how it relates to life, is usually never the same. There are many prayers in the word of God that should and can impact the

The Jesus Creed has really helped me to look at Scripture from what I believe is a more biblical and Jesus centered perspective. While I have read the
words Jesus used from Deuteronomy 6:4–9 and Leviticus 19:18 many times in Scripture, I never considered how all His teachings might have
stemmed from them. I did not know Jesus had amended the Shema of Judaism because I didn't know there was a Shema before reading this book, but

Just as the Kaddish speaks of God's name being magnified, sanctified and that His kingdom would be established soon; The Kaddish of Jesus (Lord's
Prayer) does likewise. The difference is that Jesus changes how we approach God (as Abba), that we shouldlove others as well and petition for others
too. So we see that the Lord's Prayer is really made up of Love–of–God petitions and Love–of–others petitions, which we see stems from Jesus' Shema.

Analytical Essay: The Legitimacy Of The Prayer In Luke
The prayer itself, according to professor Green, has affinities to Jewish tradition, especially to the Qaddish, and the Eighteen Benedictions as the
former begins in a manner analogous to Jesus' model prayer. The point here is not to argue the legitimacy of Jesus' prayer recorded in Luke or if it
happened for real. But rather to understand why Luke chose to only incorporate this version of the prayer in his text. Professor Green in his
commentary on this verse explain that the prayer in Luke "is much concern with the shaping of prayer in relation to an accurate recognition of the
one to whom prayer is offered" (Green 446). Jesus taught his disciple to refer to God as "Father" in this prayer and by doing this, "God is presented by
Luke as the father who cares for his children and acts redemptively on their behalf".

2 Kings 42-44 Essay
2 Kings 4:42–44 tells the story of a man who comes to Elisha with bread during a time of famine. Elisha asks the man to give his bread to the people
to eat but the man questions him, saying that his twenty loaves of bread will be insufficient in feeding all one hundred hungry people. Elisa restates
his request adding that it is the word of the LORD, and when the man complies all one hundred people are fed with leftover bread to spare. While
reading this passage one can find greater understanding by observing three subsections, or levels, of meaning. The structure of this passage aids in

Having been a Christian for many years I thought that I had a fair knowledge of what it meant to pray. I was amazed and humbled by the idea that
through Jesus' restorative act on the cross I am able to come into God's presence – and not only come but be welcomed and even longed for. I believed
that prayer is a powerful tool to petition God , a vehicle to praise Him , and an instrument to increase our intimacy with Him . I understood that
people pray in a variety of ways, based on the teaching they have received, their experience, and even their personality. Most commonly, I engaged in

Communication is always a two–way street. Just because our lips are moving doesn't necessarily mean we're communicating. If you've ever been
distracted by the television, your smart phone, or the newspaper while your spouse was trying to talk to you then you know exactly what I mean. For
genuine communication to occur you need at least one person speaking in a way the listener can understand, encouraging the listener to be engaged.
You also need a listener who's motivated to receive, analyze and respond to whatever they're hearing.
Communication with God is a two–way street as well. God speaks to us through His revealed word, while we speak to God through prayer. All classes
of people pray to God: Christians, religious non–Christians, those who consider themselves "spiritual", even agnostics and atheists pray to a higher
power occasionally. Since so many different kinds of people involve themselves in prayer we ask, "Does God hear/heed the prayers of sinners?"
A major problem of ours is when we try to take the meaning for the word "sin" or "sinner" in one verse, and assume it means the same thing in every
other passage. However, the concept of a "sinner" means different things in different contexts. Sometimes it refers to someone who has violated God's

Example: A child raised in a poor home was always told no when she asks for anything. She 'd ask for new shoes or to go on a trip, but they were

The sermon of the mount is covered in the book of Matthew, which in retrospect was a teaching on the side of a mountain amongst Jesus' disciples. All
of the disciples climbed along side of Jesus upon the mountain side, just to accumulate the knowledge in which Jesus lectured about. Some of the things
that Jesus address in his teachings where such things as, the fundamentals of becoming a Christian, in addition to the rules of living the Christian life,

My Prayer Time With God
My whole life I was raised in a Catholic family only believing in Mary, Jesus mother. Until, my parents sent me to a Christian school which wasn't
something I agree with. I would always ask myself why did my parents send me to a Christian school instead of a Catholic school. But over the years I
was interested in knowing more about the bible and God. I finally decided to be saved back in 2009 when I finally understood the meaning of living
for eternity in heaven. Although, I've always had problems with praying because I was afraid of not saying the right words or starting with "Father,
thank you for this day." Every time, I was chosen to pray over everyone on the inside I didn't want to forget anything I should pray about. Throughout
the years, I learned that our words are powerful not only to others but to God. I decided to work on my prayer time with God since I tend to forget to
pray for all the blessings he provides for me every day. Each day I've spend at least fifteen minutes praying to God over all the people I care about
trying to not forget or leave out anyone. It has helped me realize the power of prayer which I was afraid about in the past about making a mistake.
Now, I can say with confidence that prayer is always the answer when we feel sad, anger or hurt. I didn't understand why it took me a long time to truly

Is this simply a prayer recited by many, under varying circumstances or might there be more to these words then fits our eye? We find this prayer in
Matthew 6 and again in Luke 11. The disciples were being instructed by Jesus. We have in these two books and chapters a record of Jesus ' lessons and
more. There is so much in this discussion with Jesus ' disciples many simply overlook or don 't take for the same value as the Lord 's Prayer which
itself is within the same chapters.
The lessons and advice is very pointed but we seldom get beyond the Lord 's Prayer. Why? It is too obvious. We want what fits our lives but not
what goes against our preferred lifestyle, attitudes and way of worship; or secular lives. We repeat the prayer out of habit or in our form of worship
but seldom listen to what is being recited. The circumstances (Luke 11:1): Jesus had just finished praying and "one of his disciples said to him. 'Lord,
teach us to pray". This is a chapter break in Luke, but in Matthew the same request does not come until after a brief explanation of when,

Discussions in what makes effective leaders are ones as long as history itself. It is a topic of constant study and debate where everyone seems to
have a view and where definitions of leadership are as varied as their explanations. More recent day definitions and studies have focused on leadership
and change, vision building and empowering others. Thus, leaders are people who are able to think and act creatively in non–routine situations – and
who set out to influence the actions, beliefs and feelings of others. In this sense being a leader is personal. It flows from an individual's qualities and

Deuteronomy 8:3 states: "Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord." We as sheep need nourishment
to be strong and vibrant Christians. This nourishment comes from one place and one place only–The Holy Bible. The Bible, not the psychology of the
world's wisdom, is the only nourishment that can sustain a healthy Christian lifestyle. Serving as our Good Shepherd, Christ will lead us to the most lush
pastures and abundant streams.
Many Christians throughout history have faced persecution, have had to deal with temptation and have been wounded by spirits that mean to deter
us from maximizing our spiritual potential. A shepherd, knowing one of his sheep is ailing, shows compassion and love towards his sheep. The
Lord has promised us that he will "bind up the injured and strengthen the weak". (Ezekiel 34:16) As Christians today, we suffer many injuries to our
spirits and need compassionate leaders who understand our pain and are willing to listen to our concerns. "Becoming a servant leader requires a great
deal of motivation, feedback, and extended practice, as does any worthwhile discipline." We are in need of leaders who will help bear our burden, and
sympathize with our unique circumstances.

That's wonderful. Now, let me show you how to focus upon God. What I am preparing to say might sound like an undergraduate or graduate student
that you know: When the sun rises and the college student stumbles out of their dorm beds, the first thing they do is pick up their cell phone. They

New Testament Exegesis – Gospel of Matthew: Concerning Prayer (6:5–14)
Introduction
Matthew 6:9–13 records the Lord's Prayer in the account of Jesus Christ. Jesus gave this model prayer to his disciples in the Sermon on the Mount
(Greenman, 2012: 4). The Lord's Prayer has been central to Christian liturgy and tradition ever since.
This essay will first summarise the literary structure and historical context, including authorship and date and location of writing and audience of the
gospel of Matthew. Followed by an overview and detailed account of the passage Matthew 6:9–13 before summarising the theological message and
application for today's Christians.
Literary structure
Matthew narrates the story of Jesus. The implied author of the Gospel of Matthew uses all the elements of the narrative to guide the implied reader's
response. The entire text is rhetorical (Anderson, 1994: 46).
It is clear to scholars such as Gardner that Matthew 'organizes material systematically at the level of literary units and the sections to which they
belong' (Gardner, 2013: Kindle Locations 239–242). The basic structure of the text is as follows: the Practice of Prayer (6: 5–15 6: 5–6), the Manner of
Prayer (6: 7–13), the Language of Prayer (6: 14–15) and finally Forgiveness and Prayer (Gardner, 2013: Kindle Locations 1843–1844).
Of note, Matthew particularly rearranges Mark's material in the earlier chapters of the Gospel, especially through the insertion of the Sermon on the
Mount (chaps.

The Prayer Of The Sacred
For most religions, the sacred feels as though it is out of reach or untouchable. One typically cannot have a direct conversation with whom they
consider sacred, so they pray to their god(s), hoping that their prayers will be heard and answered. Another aspect of following a religion is having a
deep feeling of either love, respect or fear for the sacred. No matter the feeling, it is critical for one who follows it to reach out with prayer and tell their
sacred how they feel,profess their faith and ask for guidance. Inside sacred texts, there may be scriptures which are "considered privileged and

In Christianity, Heaven is the holy place where one who deserves it, goes after death. It is considered among Christians a place where there is no
pain, no sadness, only happiness and light. Next, it says , "hallowed be thy name" (Lord's Prayer. Traditional).. Essentially the speaker is again,
acknowledging not only the importance of the name of the sacred, but again reiterating that the sacred is so far above the speaker, that they must
address that even as they are speaking to him. The next line goes, "Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on Earth as it is Heaven" (Lord's Prayer.
Traditional).. The speaker is saying that they bode to the will of their Lord, though he is in Heaven and they are on Earth. No matter the distance
between the sacred and the speaker, they will do the Lords bidding as he says. Next it goes, "Give us this day, our daily bread" (Lord's Prayer.
Traditional).. The meaning behind this line is that the speaker is asking the sacred to give them the day and the time and the means to do get through it.
Religion is a very powerful entity and when people are going through struggles, often they will turn to the sacred for guidance and help. The speaker
is asking the Lord to help them get through what they are going through by giving them what they need to do it, (i.e. the daily bread). Next, the

This is a version of the five–step Daily Examen that St. Ignatius practiced and encouraged the brothers to practice daily.

3. Pay attention to your emotions.
4. Choose one feature of the day and pray from it.
5. Look toward tomorrow.

The sermon at the mount is a collection of teachings and sayings that Jesus preaches to people at Galilee. It takes place after Jesus had been baptized
by John the Baptist. This is the longest teaching by Jesus in a single preaching. It is found in the New Testament in the book of Matthew. It transverses
chapter five to seven of the Gospel of Matthew. The main theme of sermon of the mountain is how people should relate with other people and God.
The sermon is preached at a mountain when Jesus saw the crowd and his disciples' were following him, he sat at a level ground on the mountain and

Here Jesus tells people who are meek that they will inherit the Promised Land. People who are meek are those who submit to God's authority.
The fourth beatitude is found in the book of Matthew chapter five verse six and it states; blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for

states blessed are the pure in heart for there will see God. A pure heart is a heart that has only one objective and that is pleasing God. Here Jesus tells
the multitudes that those who please God will go to heaven.
The seventh beatitude is found in the book of Matthew chapter five verses nine, it's a beatitude of how man should relate with other humans. It has a

The Greek Alexander Romance describes the life of Alexander the Great, focusing primarily on his great military feats as a leader of Greece and
highlighting why he is remembered as a great Greco–Roman leader. Similarly, the Gospel of Matthew explains the life of Jesus Christ through his
teachings and miracles, which underline why he is known as the greatest figure from Judeo–Christian culture. Alexander and Jesus easily compare
because they died in their early thirties, were known as kings, and are remembered for impressive triumphs while on earth. Alexander sought to build

afterlife. Judeo–Christian and Greco–Roman perspectives on elements of a meaningful life contrast in the sense that Judeo–Christian actions to pursue
these elements are motivated by the desire for everlasting life in heaven, while Greco–Roman actions are motivated by the desire for perpetual fame on
earth after one dies.
Both Alexander the Great and Jesus Christ establish relationships with their communities in order to obtain their respective highest good in life. In an
effort to bring salvation for all, Jesus tried to lead everyone on earth on the path towards the kingdom of heaven. In the beginning of the Gospel of
Matthew, God says that Jesus will, "save his people from their sins" (Matthew 1:21). The idea of salvation is repeated later when Jesus himself
announces, "He who endures to the end will be saved" suggesting that whoever follows his guidance on redemption will be able to go to heaven
(Matthew 10:22). On the other hand in The Greek Alexander Romance, Alexander seeks to obtain the highest good of power by uniting surrounding
empires under his rule and becoming the "ruler of the world" (66). In an effort to build unity and trust in him, he fought alongside his men on the front
line in battle.

Not too long ago, a Catholic lay minister, "John," approached me to discuss a concern he has with his parish's lay evangelization ministry. In addition to
their parish's weekly prayer service of fifty participants, this ministry organizes and facilitates a quarterly Catholic Evangelization Congress for their
deanery that gathers between three to five hundred people. Consequently, some lay ministers have given greater importance to the major quarterly
religious services they organize for their deanery than to their parish's weekly prayer service, going to tremendous lengths to bring renowned speakers
that would draw the greatest number of participants. This is frustrating to John because these lay ministers have expressed minimal interest in
discovering how to engage many of these participants more effectively. Unfortunately, many of them do not attend the prayer services–and seldom
attend the Sunday Mass as well–unless a popular Catholic (ordained) minister is participating. John wonders if the ministry is providing a disservice by
ignoring this issue.

When the younger waiter had left and the bartender came into play, it reminded me of the same scenario that had just played out between the younger
waiter and the old man.
This time it was the bartender somewhat being the young waiter and the older waiter being the old man. When he said the Lords Prayer replacing

In the Comunidad Cristiana Nueva Esperanza (New Hope Christian Community) every Tuesday at 7: 00 PM we met to pray, although sometimes
only has been my family and I, (we are the pastoral family). However we have insisted inviting people of the church to come. Initially, perhaps being
that, the beginning was further assistance, but the temptation to which we are subjected when we decided to unite to talk to God is much stronger
than "normal" (?) and some succumb, the soup opera, tiredness, football game, the child or any other excuse is quite powerful to put forward as a
reason for not going. There are still those who used lies to justify his absence when give more weight to fatigue and other things than to talk to God in
communion with others. YetJesus took their group to retire to pray, Peter, Jacob and John.
Is there some value in the pray meeting? People suggest this idea because of their absence of many these meetings. Hey! Many people sing "I like to
be in your home celebrating with thy people..." and even jumping and dance in the "spirit" singing this contemporary, anthem. This is why I say that

Prayer is often a thing that is neglected because of various reasons. We are told in Romans 12:12 to "Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in

When we look back on Jesus' life, we can see how his life affected ours. Jesus was the Messiah. He was sent by God to do great things. Not only did he

Here he was showing that in one's lowest level of despair, man's one and only desire is to find a safe haven, and to acquire a sense of security.
Finding a sense of security and meaning to life was very important to Hemingway who was known to feel that the individual quest for meaningful
values was a universal one, probably because Hemingway himself struggled to find the true meaning of his life, or the true sense of his purpose.
The despair that Hemingway himself felt is best shown in "A Clean, Well–Lighted Place" when the older waiter was intertwined in a conversation with
himself. He said that: "It was all a nothing and a man was nothing too. It was only that and light was all it needed and a certain cleanness and order.
Some lived in it and never felt it but he knew it was nada y pues nada y nada y pues nada" (383).
Nothing and then nothing. When one is in a state of despair, the only thing that one is looking for is a way out of one's situation, or a road that will
lead to a peaceful end to one's feelings of hopelessness.
Hemingway, however, presented a remarkable example of man's search for an end to his state of hopelessness. When one waiter commented on the
deaf man's attempt at taking his own life, he said "Last week he tried to commit suicide." The other waiter replied "Why?" Then he said, "He was in
