Circuit City Corporation
Circuit City went bankrupt mainly due to its failed efforts to distinguish itself among its
competition. For example, Circuit City's prices on household appliances could not compare to those
of Sears, Wal–Mart, and Home Depot. Similarly, when McCollough decided to "stop selling major
appliances," and rebrand by selling "more cutting–edge, consumer electronics products" and
remodeling the stores, Circuit City turned into an inferior version of a Best Buy store. By pouring
money into the remodeling efforts and rebranding campaign, Circuit City not only lost capital, but
also its distinct image. In 2003, Circuit City's announcement that 3,900 commissioned sales staff
would be laid off was the tipping point in its demise. Having lost the main feature that differentiated
Circuit City from its competitors, especially Best Buy, there was no hope of recovery. As Best Buy's
sales increased and operating profits improved, Circuit City's "weakening financial results and low
stock price" indicated the end was near. In conclusion, Circuit City's attempts to rebrand and
remodel resulted in it becoming more like other better brands and put the company in a fiscal crisis.

With plans of closing about 800, or "20% of the 4,000 stores it operates," it's safe to say that the
business failed. The main reason for Payless's bankruptcy is the growing popularity of online
shopping, especially from Amazon. The company stated that the "latest round of stores had poor
sales, physical location or other 'specific circumstances.'" However, Payless was not alone in its
demise; hundreds of other retail stores and malls struggled this past year. The combination of
increases in online shopping and the shift to spending on traveling and dining out has created much
difficulty for retail stores like Payless. Thus, Payless's bankruptcy was largely due to the overall
downfall of the retail

Circuit City Failure
There are three major reasons why businesses fail: lack of money, lack of knowledge and lack of
support. It is not enough to have a great product. You also have to develop a unique value
proposition, without you will get lost among the competition. There is no mystery as to why Circuit
City filed bankruptcy on Nov. 10. Circuit City was very successful in the 1980s and 1990s, but they
never changed after that. Circuit City became complacent. Their locations were out of the way for
consumers and they never secured prime real estate for their stores. It didn't move as aggressively
into gaming as it should have. And it missed out on big in–store promotions with thriving companies
like Apple Computer. That created an opening for Best Buy, now the top electronics chain in the
U.S., to surge ahead. Finally, Circuit City neglected to improve its web presence, just as online
retailers like Amazon.com were hitting their stride. While all this was happening, their customer
service took a major ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"To make sure that we are all working in the same direction, each of us must live and breathe Circuit
City's values and use them as a guidepost for our actions and decisions." There's no plan in here for
success. This doesn't sound like a competitive plan, or even one that will meet with any success. It's
entirely elementary. Best Buy's mission statement reads as follows, "To offer customers a
perspective they can trust in the midst of techno stress and make technology live up to its promises
for people everywhere." The statement is customer–oriented, which means that it is focused on
satisfying customer needs and solving their problems. They claim to learn what customers want and
not giving them what they think they need. This is absolutely a great mission

Bankruptcy Case Study: Circuit City Stores Inc.
Circuit City stores Inc., the second largest chain of shops in the electronics of the United States,
requested on Monday the bankruptcy protection, victim of the credit conditions more harsh in their
suppliers and a loss of market share. The retailer and its 17 subsidiaries requested protection of
Chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Act from its creditors, before a court of bankruptcy of the state of
Virginia, where he has his home matrix. Circuit City filed the statement a week after it announced it
would close 155 stores, or more than a fifth of its network, and would eliminate 17% of its jobs in
the United States. He also said that it was exploring all their options for restructuring. The company

Circuit City Business Failure
Circuit City was first established in 1949 under the name of Wards Company in Richmond, Virginia
by Sam Wurtzel. What started out as a little storefront would later flourish into a national chain of
superstores retailing electronics and appliances. Interesting enough, this retail giant would
eventually close its doors and become known to many as one of American retailing's great failures
(Romero, 2013, p. 31). The thought that this small Richmond–based retailer would soon become a
great success only to later end up as one of America's great retail failure. Wurtzel was an
entrepreneur from New York. He was on his way to North Carolina on vacation, when he stopped in
Richmond, Virginia to get a haircut. During a conversation between Wurtzel and the barber, he was
told that the first television station had just opened less than a year ago in Richmond. Wurtzel, being
an entrepreneur that he was, saw this as a great opportunity. During this time, there ... Show more

Later, Wurtzel decided to expand the business into discount stores (Romero, 2013, p. 31). Business
was flourishing for Wards, that in 1961 the company decided to expand its business even further by
adding discount stores. But, in 1975, taking on expansion too quickly almost caused the company to
file bankruptcy. To prevent going bankrupt, the company decided to scale back on the number of
unprofitable outlets by closing or selling them. Then in the late 70's the business began to make a
comeback. It grew rapidly so much so that the company had fifty–three superstore by 1983 and
thirty–seven smaller electronic stores (Romero, 2013, p. 32). According to Hart, Matulich,
Rubinsak, Sheffer, Vann, and Vidalon (2012), "In 1984, Wards changed its corporate name to Circuit
City Stores, Inc. and became publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange" (p.

Abstract: Digital multipliers are along with the majority critical arithmetic functional units. The
general performance of the Digital multiplier systems depends on throughput of the multiplier. The
negative bias temperature instability effect occurs when a pMOS transistor is under negative bias
(Vgs = −Vdd), increasing the threshold voltage of a pMOS transistor and falling the multiplier
speed. In the same way, positive bias temperature instability occurs when an nMOS transistor is
under positive bias. Both effects degrade the speed of the transistor and in the long term, the system
may be fail due to timing violations. For that reason, it is required to design reliable high–
performance multipliers. In this paper, we implement an aging–aware multiplier design with a novel
adaptive hold logic (AHL) circuit. The multiplier is able to provide the higher throughput through
the variable latency and can adjust the adaptive hold logic

Information Flowing Through The Bla-To-Pl Projection May
Information flowing through the BLA–to–PL projection may be the dominant route for reward
behavior. PL is important for the enhancement in reward–seeking behavior when the deprived
animal is re–exposed to the previously rewarding context (reinstatement)(Gourley & Taylor, 2016).
PL is also important for discriminative reward seeking(Sangha et al., 2014). The BLA–PL projection
is important for reinstatement. BLA modulates the activity of PL responding to the CS (Gourley &
Taylor, 2016).
Both IL and PL of the mPFC has reciprocal projections with the BLA. It is unclear the functional
contribution of projections in the reciprocal direction such as PL–to–BLA projection in fear

During learning, many physiological changes can be found to correlate with behaviors. However
neural correlates that are not part of the dominant circuit may play a modulatory role in affecting
learning rate, or it can have no effect on behavior as they may simply be passive relays from other
structures. Critical structures and their projections are major contributors as the absence of any one
of them will abolish behavior. Dysregulations that abolish behavioral performance must be either
part of or at least influencing critical structures on the circuit. Focusing on circuits that contain only
the necessary components is critical to narrow the search for malfunctioning elements that lead to
downstream changes and cause behavioral impairment. Results from these aims would refine the
current circuit underlying SFRLD. In turn, this information would be vital for electrophysiologically
monitor information flow from major contributors throughout the pathway and set the stage for
identifying cellular level abnormalities from critical structures. In order to restore the behavioral
impairment in safety acquisition and reward regulation, treatment for PTSD–AD will need to rescue
dysregulations in the critical structures or pathways.

Describe the impact the three proposed accounting methods (full revenue recognition, deferral of
revenue, and partial revenue recognition) would have on the company's financial statements: 1) at
the time of the sale, and 2) in future periods. * Full revenue recognition method would recognize
total revenue and total cost at the date of sale. Adjustments will be recognized when the warranty is
used in the contract period, giving by the FASB's Statement of Financial Accounting Concept No. 5,

* Partial Revenue Recognition method would recognize the sale and extended warranty at the time
of sale. And the rest of the contract revenue will be deferred and recognized when the contract
period is complete. This method is acceptable for financial reporting in few situations. The
calculation is based on the estimated cost of the product and extended warranty. This method allows
the company to recognize most of the revenue at the time of sale, and allows some future revenue
recognition. 2. In your opinion, which of the three approaches to accounting for extended warranty
and service contracts is most consistent with the actual substance of a sales transaction involving
equipment and an extended warranty contract? Explain your selection and your reasoning fully. * In
our opinion, Partial Revenue Recognition approach is most consistent with the actual substance of a
sales transaction involving an extended warranty contract. Using partial revenue recognition, the
company can recognize partial revenue at the time of sale. We can distinguish between what is
earned and what is yet to be earned. At the time of sale, the company recognized a portion of the
revenue that they earned on the total sales because the warranty contract is incomplete. It recognizes
the rest portion of the sale as deferred revenue and records "over the contract period" (Bruns 3). This
method let the sales revenue and liabilities account to

How Did Circuit City Managers Fail To Perform
1. Which management functions did Circuit City managers fail to perform? Cite examples to support
your answer.
Circuit City managers failed to properly make use of the management functions that are vital to the
upkeep of a company. The management functions Circuit City failed to perform was planning and
organizing. The act of planning is viewed as the first step of the management functions because it
"lays the groundwork for all other functions and is the first step taken when performing them"
(Plunkett, Attner, & Allen, 2008). Circuit City did not plan for their system to crash or had any
backup plans in case a crash was to happen. This gave their competitors, such as Best Buy, the
opportunity to surpass them. The second management function

In the next ten years this small company expanded itself by acquiring several television and
appliance stores throughout the U.S., which included Richmond, Alabama, Washington, New York,
and California. In 1960 Wards Co. also expanded its operations into licensed television departments
within large department stores, which led the company to offer stocks to the public for the first time.
By 1965, Wards had added various acquisitions to its existing portfolio, which included a discount
department store that sold automotive and household supplies, home appliances, and clothing as
well as a Delaware company that operated household and hardware sales in department stores
around the Southeast. Not only did Wards grow increasingly through acquisition, it also grew
because of its reputation and commitment to customer service by being one of the first companies to
offer a service plan for its TV sets. The company continued its rapid acquisition strategy through the
beginning of the1970's, but by 1974, Wards began to suffer adverse effects of this of rapid over

The Woes of Extended Warranties
An extended warranty may be purchased at the time you buy your electronic device or appliance; it
may also be possible to purchase one much further along in your ownership experience. If you're the
type who likes to be prepared for all eventualities, an extended warranty may be just what you're
looking for. Bearing in mind the ever–increasing cost of electronics repairs, these contracts can
make a lot of sense.
The purpose of this paper is to delve into consumers' viewpoints on extended warranties. The topic

Radio shack on the other hand was established in 1919 in Fort Worth, Texas. Two brothers,
Theodore and Milton Deutschmann, opened the first retail store in the heart of downtown Boston.
RadioShack has formed strategic alliances with some of the best known and most trusted brands in
the consumer electronics and computer industries – including Compaq, RCA, Sprint and Verizon
Wireless. They have positioned themselves for consistent and sustained growth. In just over five
years, RadioShack has essentially "reinvented" itself into an innovative company that is, with each
passing year, moving further from a traditional retailer to a leading–edge growth company.
Benefits of Purchasing Extended Warranties
1) Offer peace of mind
2) Allow repairs to be made when one needs them.
3) Most include a replacement good if there are no available parts for repair in shop.
4) Protect against the rising cost of repairs.
5) Added resale value– most is transferable.
1) Allows repairs to be made in accordance with level of coverage.
2) Ensures consumer goods are always in best possible mechanical condition.

It had been two years since I unlisted in the military; after seeing 9/11 as a little boy back in New

patriotic household; so that gave me a sense of encouragement to fight for the country I love. It had
been almost a complete year since I saw my family last; which was exchanging gifts at Christmas. I
just had to think to myself that I was here; fighting because of and for them and other Americans
like them.
"Hey, Smith; quite muttering to yourself and get some sleep while you can. We got drill first thing in

realized he was right and put my head down on the rock hard pillow on the cot. It was nowhere near
comfortable but it was better than nothing.

Extended Warranty Expirations
A manufacturer's warranty barely last a year on new vehicles. Extended warranties keep your car
covered for a few more years after the manufacturer's warranty expires. So much skepticism
surrounds extended warranties, and we don't know what to believe. Here are five types of
stereotypes we place on warranties and how untrue it is.
The product breaks down after the warranty expires: We believe extended warranties are a waste of
time because the product will function until the warranty expires, then it breaks down. Can you

CHAPTER FOUR: LOW–POWER DESIGN
4.1 Introduction:
In earlier stages of VLSI circuit design the emphasis is on Area and Speed optimization giving
concerns to Packaging and Efficient designing. As the technology scales down according to
predictions of Moor's Law, it is advent that the CMOS dimensions have been scaled down
drastically. But due to increase in use of Portable Devices Such as Cellphones, Laptops, Personal
Health Monitoring systems, there has been a demand of higher battery life for Portable devices.
Whereas big data centers which contains large set of circuits consumes tremendous power and
dissipates large amount of heat which incurs huge cost to maintain. The solution for these problems
is to design circuits which consume low power which give rise to the concept of Low–Power VLSI
designing.

When designing FPAA designer must consider different approaches available and select the one
most suitable for the application. There are numerous issues to be looked in to before choosing the

voltage fluctuation, interference and secondary effects etc. This section describes few important
design issues that a designer comes across while attempting to design FPAA.

The reduction in number of switches reduces the flexibility so a trade–off between flexibility and

Voltage mode or Current mode
Another important question is whether to use voltage mode or current mode approach. A circuit is
completely characterised by its node voltages and branch currents []. If nodal voltages are
considered it leads to voltage mode and if branch currents are the main focus it leads to current
mode circuits.
The voltage mode technique is well developed numerous programmable analog circuits can be
found both in conceptual and commercial platform. The most widely used analog building block is
op–amp which is an integral part of almost every analog circuit. The major advantages of voltage
mode include []:
a. High fan–out
b. Ease of implementation
c. Well researched topic
d.
Apart from these advantages voltage mode circuits are not suitable for high frequency applications
and they are no longer able to comply with the with the scaling of technology and low supply
voltage requirements. The main voltage mode building block op–amp suffers from a constant gain
bandwidth product the puts a major restriction on its frequency response as shown in fig [].
The current mode circuits have gained importance in recent years mainly because of these
advantages []:

b. Constant bandwidth almost

for the community. When it comes to the vast area of technology, that is mainly what Circuit City is
about. The company is a frontrunner for bringing that technology to the community and that is a
reason why customers come to Circuit City. They come to experience the new and upcoming
products that arrive on the market and our store is that doorway for them to experience it. From the
small gadgets and accessories to the larger merchandise such as computers, TVs, audio/video
equipment, it is all available for easy access for the customer. The entire store has to be prepared
with presenting the upcoming products to the community by displaying it or even setting the product
up for demonstration use. So that when ready, the customer can try the product in ease and
experience its uses. The organization has to also be able to staff and supply its stores with the proper
technology so that employees can also use it if they have to.
An example of that would be in the department that I work in, PC Repair. My department is
responsible for also performing analog to digital video conversions, such as; VHS to DVD or even
older cassette tapes to CD.

Part–1 1. What are common carriers, local exchange carriers, and interexchange carriers? A common
carrier is a private company that sells or leases communication services and facilities to the public.
Common carriers are profit–oriented, and their primary products are services for voice and data
transmissions, both over traditional wired circuits as well as cellular services. Common carriers
often supply a broad range of computer–based services, such as the manufacturing and marketing of
specialized communication hardware and software. A common carrier that provides local telephone
services (e.g., BellSouth) is commonly called a local exchange carrier (LEC), while one that
provides long distance services (e.g., MCI) is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, dedicated circuits require more care in network design than switched circuits both in
terms of locations and the amount of capacity you purchase. With packet switched services, the user
again buys a connection into the common carrier cloud. The user pays a fixed fee for the connection
into the network depending upon the type and capacity of the service and is charged for the number
of packets transmitted. 13. Distinguish among T1, T2, T3, and T4 circuits. T1 circuit is sometimes
called a DS–1 circuit. It provides a data rate of 1.544 Mbps. T1 circuits can be used to transmit data,
but often are used to transmit both data and voice. In this case, a time division multiplexer (TDM)
provides 24 64–Kbps circuits. Digitized voice using pulse code modulation (PCM) requires a 64
Kbps circuit so T1 circuit enables 24 simultaneous voice channels. T2 circuit transmits data at a rate
of 6.312 Mbps. Basically; it is a multiplexed bundle of four T1 circuits. T3 circuits allow
transmission at a rate of 44.376 Mbps, although most articles refer to this rate as 45 megabits per
second. This is equal to the capacity of 28 T1 circuits. T3 circuits are becoming popular as the
transmission medium for corporate MANs and WANs because of their higher data rates. At low
speed, these T3 circuits can be used as 672 different 64 Kbps channels or voice channels. A T4
circuit transmits at

Nt1210 Lab Report
1.0 Introduction: Telephone signals are controlled through the process of digital switches. Every
wire a telephone has two connections, which is known as input and outputs signals with a binary
combination. In this lab, the overall purpose of the circuit was to build a telephone switch that
would function which connects to one subscriber to another. What the circuit does is that it gives an
input signal using four subscribers which is connected with an output signal using 8 subscribers. As
the input signal known as MUX and output signal known as DeMUX, the wiring of the signals are
displayed of page 11 known as the Tekron Logic Lab sheet. After completing the circuit, to
determine if each input signal is connected to an output signal, the lamp input, S1 and S0, with the

To determine a 4–input MUX as ask in perlab question 1.13, we used two of 2–input MUXs is used
to build a 4 input MUX as shown in gates in figure 3. The 4–input MUX circuit in the perlab uses
the design of three dual 2–input AND–NOR gates and five NOT gates. The figure 3 shows how a 4–
input MUX could be constructed through the use of three two–input MUX's. For a four–input MUX,
a combination of two binary values such as 00, 01, 10, and 11 were the addresses. A schematic of
the dialer is given. The dialer was used to send signals through the MUX and DeMUX. On the
Tektron logic board, 52, 53 and 54 contain very useful gate considering I used them instead of 2

Circuit City Failure Essay
There are two main causes of the failure of Circuit City: First, the company was too goal–oriented
and aggressive on winning the sales. According to the approach that the company used, Circuit City
opened a number of large stores at once in the same region, which definitely creates cannibalization.
It pushed so hard on the sale ignored the internal competition between each store. Also, consumers
were tired about the heavy advertising and found Best Buy more comfortable and friendly to shop
with. As a result, Circuit City's 600 stores posted an annual loss of $89.3 million by the end of 2003.
Second, the company did not stop and think about how to regain its market, but quickly fell into the
flat–screen price war without clear positioning. It did not realize that nearly 44 percent of its
revenues came from TV sales, and if they did not pay enough attention and carefully make decisions
on this product, the company would be so to eroding margins! Circuit City focused too much on the
sales and paid no attention on analyzing, predicting, and reacting to the market change. Therefore,
when the sale dropped, it had to lowered the price as other competitors did, and resulted by a huge
loss on profit.

Industry Rivals – Industry Rivals such as Circuit City and Radio Shack have been hurt in some
markets due to the expansion of Best Buy, but by having a better customer service rating, some
customers are coming back.
New Entrants – The threat of new entrants is moderate. Moderate because of the high cost of entry,
but the relatively successful business model Best Buy has outlined.
Substitutes – The threat of substitutes is low. Yes you can shop at Wal–Mart for digital cameras, but
you do not have the selection or quality available to you.
Strengths –
Best Buy provides good quality products at a great price. They also understand that customers want
hassle free shopping, which draws consumers into their store to window shop. For many industries
this may not be strength, but for Best Buy it is.
By having the best price, Best Buy can afford to have window shoppers. They will be able to see all
of the new merchandise and if they do comparison shop, the will return to Best Buy.
Best Buy has been successful with their web presence; they have found another outlet for customers
to purchase products from Best Buy.
Weaknesses –
One of Best Buy's weaknesses is Customer Service. This is show from the high percentage of
customer service complaints written to Best Buy. According to PlanetFeedback Radio Shack and

History Of Circuit City Company 's Vision And Background...
In this research paper I will describe the history of Circuit City business, who are their competitors,
and when the company started and failed. In addition, research will state the company's vision and
background information. Circuit City started in 1949 selling television out of a small town in
Richmond, Indiana. It was started by Samuel S. Wurtzel who opened the first Wards Company retail
store that quickly turned into a national store chain. The Wurtzel first experiment was in the early
1940s, after World War II, in which he introduced a new entertainment device. By introducing the
this new entertainment device in 1949 had tripled in the number of TV stations in the United States.
Wurtzel had a friend who knew someone at Olympic Television that was a small manufacturer in
Long Island City, NY. The connections that Wurtzel used his new connections with bankers and
business people in Richmond. Wurtzel decided to move his family from New York to Virginia. He
started selling televisions out of the front half of the store on Broad Street, a few blocks west of
downtown Richmond (Romero, 2014). The first name of the business was called Wards which were
the names of the family; W for Wurtzel, A is for his son Alan, R for his wife named Ruth, and S is
for Sam. Wurtzel approached the business in a different way instead of competing directly with the
big department stores, his approach to cater for low–income consumers by offering them installment

Nelson & Winter 's Concept Of `` Inherited Strategy ``

Hypothesis
The downfall of many successful firms can be attributed to Nelson & Winter's concept of "inherited
strategy".
Objective
This paper will explore and discuss a former leading company, Borders, and support this case study
with Circuit City, and Blockbuster, to surmise if the failure of large, leading firms in the competitive
marketplace is in fact due to their inability to change their "inherited strategy".

1. BORDERS (Initial Case Study)
As business flourished, Borders grew ready to expand. Borders unleashed its first large "superstore"
model bookstore in 1985 and subsequently opened five more throughout the Midwest. The
superstores were unlike any other bookstores of the time – they featured coffee bars and lounge
areas to provide customers with unique in–store experiences that set Borders apart from its
competitors. Needing to manage their large inventory of books, they had an early technical
advantage: a superior inventory system that could monitor sales trends, replenish specific titles as
they were sold, optimize, and even predict, what consumers across the nation would buy. At first,
the inventory management system was based on a card stock system, but the company eventually
turned the system into a sophisticated computer software program (WSJ, 2011). This inventory
management system was ahead of its time and contributed greatly to Border 's success since it
streamlined shelving costs and allowed Borders Group to offer a wider variety of titles at much
lower costs than its rivals. This was a supporting technology that would improve the features of
existing products or services, and conventional customers and the market would appreciate and
adopt these technologies fast. There are also disruptive technologies, which unlike this, challenge
the current way of doing things. Products based on

After years of dominating the market, however, Circuit City began to lose focus in its core business
and directed its attention towards other businesses. One costly venture was through the investment
of DIVX, the technology that would rival DVD. The failure of this technology cost Circuit City
nearly $250 million or equivalent to two year's profits. By losing focus of its core business,
consumer electronics, Circuit City allowed other retailers like Best Buy to expand and capture
market share. A layout of Circuit City's merchandise sales by category can be seen in Figure 1.
In 2001, Circuit City re–branded itself with a new logo and renewed commitment to customers,
stating, "We're With You" and continued to differentiate itself through customer service and an all–
knowing commission–based sales force. This differentiation has become the company's distinctive
competence, yet this also brought about its current battle to be number one. While some customers
thoroughly enjoy the top–notch service provided by Circuit City's sales staff, others simply view it
as "sales pressure" and usually leave Circuit City stores with an uncomfortable experience and
memory later causing them to patronize competing stores. Another drawback is that Circuit City's
commission–based sales representatives often times overlook or do not provide as good of service to
customers seeking smaller, less profitable items which usually

How Knowledge and Technology Relate to the Organizing...
The organizing function of management deals with activities that result in the formal assignment of
tasks and authority and a coordination of effort. Management staffs the work unit, trains employees,

managerial function of arranging people and resources to work toward a goal. The purposes of
organizing include but are not limited to determining the tasks to be performed in order to achieve
objectives, dividing tasks into specific jobs, grouping jobs into departments, specifying reporting

When there is a new technology available, Circuit City already has that information ready in the e–
Learning system so that the specific employees can read and learn all about its aspects so that
knowledge can then be passed onto the community if a customer wants to learn more about it. I
believe that if that system was not available to the employees of the company then that would
translate to no if not proper explanation of the products to the community. That would cause
customer not to shop from us because we could not explain the merchandise or the technology to
them.
One example of that knowledge is when the capability of DVD recording arrived on the market. The
organization made it a priority for all sales employees to learn about the technology on the e–
Learning system. The company wanted us to know exactly what it was, what devices; such as
camcorders and standalone recorders are able to use the technology. We had to know the differences
between DVD–R, DVD+R and DVD RAM technology and what all was applicable uses of the
technology. Sure, it 's possible if that e–Learning system was not available to us, employees could

Abstract: Nowadays for each and every designing in VLSI era the power consumption plays a vital
role. Low power has emerged as a principal theme in today's electronics industry. The low power
VLSI design has important role in designing of many electronic design systems. On designing any
combinational or sequential circuits, the power consumption, implementation area, voltage leakage,
and efficiency of the circuit are the important parameters to be considered initially. This paper
proposes a low–power and area–efficient shift register using pulsed latches. The area and power
consumption are reduced by replacing flip–flops with pulsed latches. This method solves the timing
problem between pulsed latches through the use of multiple non–overlap delayed pulsed clock
signals instead of the conventional single pulsed clock signal. The shift register uses a small number
of the pulsed clock signals by grouping the latches to several sub

strategic decision making by upper management and senior officials was Igor Ansoff in the 1960's.
Although Ansoff did not invent the idea of strategy, he did bring the idea of using strategic decision

Ansoff was nicknamed the father of strategic management. Although Ansoff had a complex thought
process on the concept of strategic management, his ideas all stemmed from similar thoughts. He
summarized his thoughts on strategy by saying, "The key to strategy is recognizing that if a

Life Is Adversity
Life is Adversity Everyone faces adversity in some point of their life.Adversity will always make us
stronger. Some ways people overcome adversity are by, Identifying the problem, Facing it and
considering all options. One way people overcome adversity is by identifying the problem. An
example of this is from the (article & video) of Captain Sullenberger landing the plane in the
Hudson River. The text states that Cpt. Sullenberger said that he had a couple minutes to think after
the geese had hit the plane's engine he had to think what he was going to do and he thought where
he was going to land in about 1 minutes and 30 seconds. This clearly supports the point because Cpt.
Sullenberger looks at his surroundings and revised all of his surroundings before landing the plane
or turning the plane around and risking all of those people's lives. An example of how people
overcome adversity is by facing it because Cpt. Sullenberger had to face that he had to land in the
Hudson River to get all of the passengers on that flight.Evidence of this is that in the story in this
piece Cpt. Sullenberger overcomes adversity by helping everyone that was in the plane get out safe

Theory 3
"There are some routes and paths that must not be taken. There are some armies and troops that
must not be assaulted." Although some of the routes and paths may looks advantageous to us, it
should not be taken lightly. This is because there might be some ambushes that cannot be found or
detected easily. If the decision is not made cautiously, troubles or loss may be incurred instead of
gaining the desired advantages. In other words, do not judge a book by its cover. Besides that,
something that seems like a benefit may be also a trap set by the enemy or competitor. If someone
walks into the trap looking for benefit, then his or her benefit could be taken away instead. This
theory was applied by Blockbuster, which was once a very popular video rental company. The Chief

Application Of Science And Technology
With the constant development of technology over the last few decades, there has been a constant
increase in the demand of services by the human population. This has resulted in increased devotion
of resources in the application of science and technology and hence overall increase in the need of
better gadgets and technology. Over the ages, the increase in demand for the large scale production
has resulted in forcing the manufacturing companies to outsource its intellectual property (IP) to
foreign bodies. The increasing requirement is met, but it is paralleled with the increase in insertions
of Hardware Trojans. These circuits affect the fundamental behavior of the end product in manners
which can degrade their efficiency and also may be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To avoid such attacks the system should be resilient to external Trojan attacks. This paper briefly
discusses the concept and evolutions of Hardware Trojans, followed by their classification and
finally deals with the techniques which are available to detect and counter the actions of Hardware
Trojans. Literature Review The present decade has experienced a rapid growth in the production of
electronic devices. These devices have surely increased the accessibility and comfort but they are
also subject to security issues. The increase in security of such electronic facility has been a
necessity with the introduction of hardware circuits which tamper their behavior. "A Hardware
Trojan is a malicious, undesired, intentional modification of an electronic circuit or design, resulting
in the undesired behaviour of an electronic device when in operation. It is like a back–door that can
be inserted into hardware – a foothold that an adversary can leverage to attack a system" [1]. A
hardware Trojan is considered to be an intentional modification in the physical structure of the IC
which can render the IC to be either functionless or malfunction. Such conditions can result in
disastrous outcomes when it comes to applications of high level security and military usage. A
hardware Trojan can either use the existing signals in an IC and corrupt or alter them, hence
damaging the data and commands and in turn resulting in improper execution of the hardware. It can

Circuit City Corporation

  • 1. Circuit City Corporation Circuit City went bankrupt mainly due to its failed efforts to distinguish itself among its competition. For example, Circuit City's prices on household appliances could not compare to those of Sears, Wal–Mart, and Home Depot. Similarly, when McCollough decided to "stop selling major appliances," and rebrand by selling "more cutting–edge, consumer electronics products" and remodeling the stores, Circuit City turned into an inferior version of a Best Buy store. By pouring money into the remodeling efforts and rebranding campaign, Circuit City not only lost capital, but also its distinct image. In 2003, Circuit City's announcement that 3,900 commissioned sales staff would be laid off was the tipping point in its demise. Having lost the main feature that differentiated Circuit City from its competitors, especially Best Buy, there was no hope of recovery. As Best Buy's sales increased and operating profits improved, Circuit City's "weakening financial results and low stock price" indicated the end was near. In conclusion, Circuit City's attempts to rebrand and remodel resulted in it becoming more like other better brands and put the company in a fiscal crisis. 2. With plans of closing about 800, or "20% of the 4,000 stores it operates," it's safe to say that the business failed. The main reason for Payless's bankruptcy is the growing popularity of online shopping, especially from Amazon. The company stated that the "latest round of stores had poor sales, physical location or other 'specific circumstances.'" However, Payless was not alone in its demise; hundreds of other retail stores and malls struggled this past year. The combination of increases in online shopping and the shift to spending on traveling and dining out has created much difficulty for retail stores like Payless. • 5. Circuit City Failure There are three major reasons why businesses fail: lack of money, lack of knowledge and lack of support. It is not enough to have a great product. You also have to develop a unique value proposition, without you will get lost among the competition. There is no mystery as to why Circuit City filed bankruptcy on Nov. 10. Circuit City was very successful in the 1980s and 1990s, but they never changed after that. Circuit City became complacent. Their locations were out of the way for consumers and they never secured prime real estate for their stores. It didn't move as aggressively into gaming as it should have. And it missed out on big in–store promotions with thriving companies like Apple Computer. That created an opening for Best Buy, now the top electronics chain in the U.S., to surge ahead. Finally, Circuit City neglected to improve its web presence, just as online retailers like Amazon.com were hitting their stride. While all this was happening, their customer service took a major ... "To make sure that we are all working in the same direction, each of us must live and breathe Circuit City's values and use them as a guidepost for our actions and decisions." There's no plan in here for success. This doesn't sound like a competitive plan, or even one that will meet with any success. It's entirely elementary. Best Buy's mission statement reads as follows, "To offer customers a perspective they can trust in the midst of techno stress and make technology live up to its promises for people everywhere." The statement is customer–oriented, which means that it is focused on satisfying customer needs and solving their problems. They claim to learn what customers want and not giving them what they think they need. This is absolutely a great mission ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Circuit City Business Failure Circuit City was first established in 1949 under the name of Wards Company in Richmond, Virginia by Sam Wurtzel. What started out as a little storefront would later flourish into a national chain of superstores retailing electronics and appliances. Interesting enough, this retail giant would eventually close its doors and become known to many as one of American retailing's great failures (Romero, 2013, p. 31). The thought that this small Richmond–based retailer would soon become a great success only to later end up as one of America's great retail failure. Wurtzel was an entrepreneur from New York. He was on his way to North Carolina on vacation, when he stopped in Richmond, Virginia to get a haircut. During a conversation between Wurtzel and the barber, he was told that the first television station had just opened less than a year ago in Richmond. Later, Wurtzel decided to expand the business into discount stores (Romero, 2013, p. 31). Business was flourishing for Wards, that in 1961 the company decided to expand its business even further by adding discount stores. But, in 1975, taking on expansion too quickly almost caused the company to file bankruptcy. To prevent going bankrupt, the company decided to scale back on the number of unprofitable outlets by closing or selling them. Then in the late 70's the business began to make a comeback. It grew rapidly so much so that the company had fifty–three superstore by 1983 and thirty–seven smaller electronic stores (Romero, 2013, p. 32). According to Hart, Matulich, Rubinsak, Sheffer, Vann, and Vidalon (2012), "In 1984, Wards changed its corporate name to Circuit City Stores, Inc. and became publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange" (p. ... The general performance of the Digital multiplier systems depends on throughput of the multiplier. The negative bias temperature instability effect occurs when a pMOS transistor is under negative bias (Vgs = −Vdd), increasing the threshold voltage of a pMOS transistor and falling the multiplier speed. In the same way, positive bias temperature instability occurs when an nMOS transistor is under positive bias. Both effects degrade the speed of the transistor and in the long term, the system may be fail due to timing violations. For that reason, it is required to design reliable high– performance multipliers. In this paper, we implement an aging–aware multiplier design with a novel adaptive hold logic (AHL) circuit. The multiplier is able to provide the higher throughput through the variable latency and can adjust the adaptive hold logic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

PL is important for the enhancement in reward–seeking behavior when the deprived animal is re–exposed to the previously rewarding context (reinstatement)(Gourley & Taylor, 2016). PL is also important for discriminative reward seeking(Sangha et al., 2014). The BLA–PL projection is important for reinstatement. BLA modulates the activity of PL responding to the CS (Gourley & Taylor, 2016). Both IL and PL of the mPFC has reciprocal projections with the BLA. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During learning, many physiological changes can be found to correlate with behaviors. However neural correlates that are not part of the dominant circuit may play a modulatory role in affecting learning rate, or it can have no effect on behavior as they may simply be passive relays from other structures. Critical structures and their projections are major contributors as the absence of any one of them will abolish behavior. Dysregulations that abolish behavioral performance must be either part of or at least influencing critical structures on the circuit. Focusing on circuits that contain only the necessary components is critical to narrow the search for malfunctioning elements that lead to downstream changes and cause behavioral impairment. Results from these aims would refine the current circuit underlying SFRLD. In turn, this information would be vital for electrophysiologically monitor information flow from major contributors throughout the pathway and set the stage for identifying cellular level abnormalities from critical structures. In order to restore the behavioral impairment in safety acquisition and reward regulation, treatment for PTSD–AD will need to rescue dysregulations in the critical structures or pathways. Describe the impact the three proposed accounting methods (full revenue recognition, deferral of revenue, and partial revenue recognition) would have on the company's financial statements: 1) at the time of the sale, and 2) in future periods. * Full revenue recognition method would recognize total revenue and total cost at the date of sale. And the rest of the contract revenue will be deferred and recognized when the contract period is complete. This method is acceptable for financial reporting in few situations. The calculation is based on the estimated cost of the product and extended warranty. This method allows the company to recognize most of the revenue at the time of sale, and allows some future revenue recognition. 2. In your opinion, which of the three approaches to accounting for extended warranty and service contracts is most consistent with the actual substance of a sales transaction involving equipment and an extended warranty contract? Explain your selection and your reasoning fully. * In our opinion, Partial Revenue Recognition approach is most consistent with the actual substance of a sales transaction involving an extended warranty contract. Using partial revenue recognition, the company can recognize partial revenue at the time of sale. We can distinguish between what is earned and what is yet to be earned. At the time of sale, the company recognized a portion of the revenue that they earned on the total sales because the warranty contract is incomplete. It recognizes the rest portion of the sale as deferred revenue and records "over the contract period" (Bruns 3). This method let the sales revenue and liabilities account to ... Circuit City managers failed to properly make use of the management functions that are vital to the upkeep of a company. The management functions Circuit City failed to perform was planning and organizing. The act of planning is viewed as the first step of the management functions because it "lays the groundwork for all other functions and is the first step taken when performing them" (Plunkett, Attner, & Allen, 2008). Circuit City did not plan for their system to crash or had any backup plans in case a crash was to happen. This gave their competitors, such as Best Buy, the opportunity to surpass them. Wurtzel was getting a haircut when he learned that the first commercial television station would be going on air in Richmond, which inspired him to open a store to sell television sets because he knew consumer interest in the new local broadcasts would only increase. In the next ten years this small company expanded itself by acquiring several television and appliance stores throughout the U.S., which included Richmond, Alabama, Washington, New York, and California. In 1960 Wards Co. also expanded its operations into licensed television departments within large department stores, which led the company to offer stocks to the public for the first time. By 1965, Wards had added various acquisitions to its existing portfolio, which included a discount department store that sold automotive and household supplies, home appliances, and clothing as well as a Delaware company that operated household and hardware sales in department stores around the Southeast. Not only did Wards grow increasingly through acquisition, it also grew because of its reputation and commitment to customer service by being one of the first companies to offer a service plan for its TV sets. The company continued its rapid acquisition strategy through the beginning of the1970's, but by 1974, Wards began to suffer adverse effects of this of rapid over diversification into such non–core business ... Summary : ' The Camp ' Essay Prologue Jake Smith– 1100 Hours, August 7th, 2025 / Unknown U.S Military Hideout, Kabul– Afghanistan It had been two years since I unlisted in the military; after seeing 9/11 as a little boy back in New York, I felt obligated that I had to put these terrorist scums to rest. I was born and raised in a patriotic household; so that gave me a sense of encouragement to fight for the country I love. It had been almost a complete year since I saw my family last; which was exchanging gifts at Christmas. I just had to think to myself that I was here; fighting because of and for them and other Americans like them. "Hey, Smith; quite muttering to yourself and get some sleep while you can. We got drill first thing in the morning before being the lookouts for the group for a few hours." Sgt.Wolaski whispered. I realized he was right and put my head down on the rock hard pillow on the cot. It was nowhere near comfortable but it was better than nothing. Jake Smith– 0500 Hours, August 8th, 2025 / Unknown U.S Military Hideout, Kabul– Afghanistan "Marines! Up and at 'em" yelled Col. Matthews. Followed by a loud blow of a whistle. This startled most of us but we were getting used to it. After all most of us had been here for at least a couple of months. I put on my uniform, pants and my sand–colored camo cap. We stepped outside of our tents; the air still dry and crisp. We all formed a line as the Colonel inspected us; making sure none of us were unprepared for the early morning drill and ... A common carrier is a private company that sells or leases communication services and facilities to the public. Common carriers are profit–oriented, and their primary products are services for voice and data transmissions, both over traditional wired circuits as well as cellular services. Common carriers often supply a broad range of computer–based services, such as the manufacturing and marketing of specialized communication hardware and software. A common carrier that provides local telephone services (e.g., BellSouth) is commonly called a local exchange carrier (LEC), while one that provides long distance services (e.g., MCI) is ... Distinguish among T1, T2, T3, and T4 circuits. T1 circuit is sometimes called a DS–1 circuit. It provides a data rate of 1.544 Mbps. T1 circuits can be used to transmit data, but often are used to transmit both data and voice. In this case, a time division multiplexer (TDM) provides 24 64–Kbps circuits. Digitized voice using pulse code modulation (PCM) requires a 64 Kbps circuit so T1 circuit enables 24 simultaneous voice channels. T2 circuit transmits data at a rate of 6.312 Mbps. Basically; it is a multiplexed bundle of four T1 circuits. T3 circuits allow transmission at a rate of 44.376 Mbps, although most articles refer to this rate as 45 megabits per second. This is equal to the capacity of 28 T1 circuits. T3 circuits are becoming popular as the transmission medium for corporate MANs and WANs because of their higher data rates. According to the approach that the company used, Circuit City opened a number of large stores at once in the same region, which definitely creates cannibalization. It pushed so hard on the sale ignored the internal competition between each store. Also, consumers were tired about the heavy advertising and found Best Buy more comfortable and friendly to shop with. As a result, Circuit City's 600 stores posted an annual loss of $89.3 million by the end of 2003. Second, the company did not stop and think about how to regain its market, but quickly fell into the flat–screen price war without clear positioning. It did not realize that nearly 44 percent of its revenues came from TV sales, and if they did not pay enough attention and carefully make decisions on this product, the company would be so to eroding margins! In this research paper I will describe the history of Circuit City business, who are their competitors, and when the company started and failed. In addition, research will state the company's vision and background information. Circuit City started in 1949 selling television out of a small town in Richmond, Indiana. It was started by Samuel S. Wurtzel who opened the first Wards Company retail store that quickly turned into a national store chain. The Wurtzel first experiment was in the early 1940s, after World War II, in which he introduced a new entertainment device. By introducing the this new entertainment device in 1949 had tripled in the number of TV stations in the United States. Wurtzel had a friend who knew someone at Olympic Television that was a small manufacturer in Long Island City, NY. The connections that Wurtzel used his new connections with bankers and business people in Richmond. Wurtzel decided to move his family from New York to Virginia. He started selling televisions out of the front half of the store on Broad Street, a few blocks west of downtown Richmond (Romero, 2014). The first name of the business was called Wards which were the names of the family; W for Wurtzel, A is for his son Alan, R for his wife named Ruth, and S is for Sam. Borders unleashed its first large "superstore" model bookstore in 1985 and subsequently opened five more throughout the Midwest. The superstores were unlike any other bookstores of the time – they featured coffee bars and lounge areas to provide customers with unique in–store experiences that set Borders apart from its competitors. Needing to manage their large inventory of books, they had an early technical advantage: a superior inventory system that could monitor sales trends, replenish specific titles as they were sold, optimize, and even predict, what consumers across the nation would buy. At first, the inventory management system was based on a card stock system, but the company eventually turned the system into a sophisticated computer software program (WSJ, 2011). This inventory management system was ahead of its time and contributed greatly to Border 's success since it streamlined shelving costs and allowed Borders Group to offer a wider variety of titles at much lower costs than its rivals. Executive Summary Circuit City History The year is 1966 and Wards, a television and appliance company established in 1949, is hot. As the one and only giant of television, the company enjoys a growth rate of 2200% since 1958 and its sales continue to skyrocket. The company continues to expand itself by offering innovative products like audio equipment and diversifies by entering markets including automotive supplies, gasoline, clothing, and even children's toys. In 1968 the company goes public while continuing to expand and focus on innovation and differentiation, grasping each opportunity gain a hold of untapped markets. After years of dominating the market, however, Circuit City began to lose focus in its core business and directed its attention towards other businesses. One costly venture was through the investment of DIVX, the technology that would rival DVD. The failure of this technology cost Circuit City nearly $250 million or equivalent to two year's profits. By losing focus of its core business, consumer electronics, Circuit City allowed other retailers like Best Buy to expand and capture market share. A layout of Circuit City's merchandise sales by category can be seen in Figure 1. In 2001, Circuit City re–branded itself with a new logo and renewed commitment to customers, stating, "We're With You" and continued to differentiate itself through customer service and an all– knowing commission–based sales force. This differentiation has become the company's distinctive competence, yet this also brought about its current battle to be number one. While some customers thoroughly enjoy the top–notch service provided by Circuit City's sales staff, others simply view it as "sales pressure" and usually leave Circuit City stores with an uncomfortable experience and memory later causing them to patronize competing stores. Another drawback is that Circuit City's commission–based sales representatives often times overlook or do not provide as good of service to customers seeking smaller, less profitable items which usually ... The organizing function of management deals with activities that result in the formal assignment of tasks and authority and a coordination of effort. Management staffs the work unit, trains employees, secures resources, and empowers the work group into a productive team. Organizing is the managerial function of arranging people and resources to work toward a goal. The purposes of organizing include but are not limited to determining the tasks to be performed in order to achieve objectives, dividing tasks into specific jobs, grouping jobs into departments, specifying reporting and authority relationships, delegating the authority necessary for task accomplishment, and allocating and deploying resources in a coordinated fashion. When there is a new technology available, Circuit City already has that information ready in the e– Learning system so that the specific employees can read and learn all about its aspects so that knowledge can then be passed onto the community if a customer wants to learn more about it. I believe that if that system was not available to the employees of the company then that would translate to no if not proper explanation of the products to the community. That would cause customer not to shop from us because we could not explain the merchandise or the technology to them. One example of that knowledge is when the capability of DVD recording arrived on the market. The organization made it a priority for all sales employees to learn about the technology on the e– Learning system. The company wanted us to know exactly what it was, what devices; such as camcorders and standalone recorders are able to use the technology. We had to know the differences between DVD–R, DVD+R and DVD RAM technology and what all was applicable uses of the technology. Sure, it 's possible if that e–Learning system was not available to us, employees could have looked it up on the internet and found out but the resource in the store is specifically geared towards ... Low power has emerged as a principal theme in today's electronics industry. The low power VLSI design has important role in designing of many electronic design systems. On designing any combinational or sequential circuits, the power consumption, implementation area, voltage leakage, and efficiency of the circuit are the important parameters to be considered initially. This paper proposes a low–power and area–efficient shift register using pulsed latches. The area and power consumption are reduced by replacing flip–flops with pulsed latches. This method solves the timing problem between pulsed latches through the use of multiple non–overlap delayed pulsed clock signals instead of the conventional single pulsed clock signal. The shift register uses a small number of the pulsed clock signals by grouping the latches to several sub ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hussey believes that without a proper market analysis, analysis of the external environment, and a strategic plan to improve, the organization will fail. The first individual to conceptualize the idea of strategic decision making by upper management and senior officials was Igor Ansoff in the 1960's. Although Ansoff did not invent the idea of strategy, he did bring the idea of using strategic decision making for large corporations to succeed. In his book, Corporate Strategy, Ansoff identified 4 major decision types every organization must make. Decisions on strategy, policy, standard operating procedures, and programs were the 4 decisions Ansoff believed every organization needed to make (Strategic management, 2005). Ansoff was nicknamed the father of strategic management. Although Ansoff had a complex thought process on the concept of strategic management, his ideas all stemmed from similar thoughts. He summarized his thoughts on strategy by saying, "The key to strategy is recognizing that if a company is functioning, it is part of the environment. When a manager understands the environment and is recognizing that the environment is constantly changing, then the manager can make the correct decisions in leading the organizations into the future (Ansoff, Igor, 2003)." Life Is Adversity Life is Adversity Everyone faces adversity in some point of their life.Adversity will always make us stronger. Some ways people overcome adversity are by, Identifying the problem, Facing it and considering all options. One way people overcome adversity is by identifying the problem. An example of this is from the (article & video) of Captain Sullenberger landing the plane in the Hudson River. The text states that Cpt. Sullenberger said that he had a couple minutes to think after the geese had hit the plane's engine he had to think what he was going to do and he thought where he was going to land in about 1 minutes and 30 seconds. This clearly supports the point because Cpt. Sullenberger looks at his surroundings and revised all of his surroundings before landing the plane or turning the plane around and risking all of those people's lives. An example of how people overcome adversity is by facing it because Cpt. Sullenberger had to face that he had to land in the Hudson River to get all of the passengers on that flight.Evidence of this is that in the story in this piece Cpt. Sullenberger overcomes adversity by helping everyone that was in the plane get out safe and sound. This shows how they overcome adversity because Cpt Sullenberger had to make an ruff and quick decision on where to land. One Illustration that demonstrates how people face adversity is by considering all options. This proves how people face adversity because Cpt. • 145. Examples Of Blockbuster Theory 3 "There are some routes and paths that must not be taken. There are some armies and troops that must not be assaulted." Although some of the routes and paths may looks advantageous to us, it should not be taken lightly. This is because there might be some ambushes that cannot be found or detected easily. If the decision is not made cautiously, troubles or loss may be incurred instead of gaining the desired advantages. In other words, do not judge a book by its cover. Besides that, something that seems like a benefit may be also a trap set by the enemy or competitor. If someone walks into the trap looking for benefit, then his or her benefit could be taken away instead. This theory was applied by Blockbuster, which was once a very popular video rental company. The Chief Executive Officer of Blockbuster, Jim Keyes, was interested in enhancing their retail business by purchasing Circuit City, an electronic retailer company (Eaton, 2008). Even in this situation, Blockbuster still did a good job by analysing the market carefully and making their decision wisely. At the time when the offer is announced to the public, many opinions from analysts flooded in, with majority agreeing that the offer is bad (Jacobs and Paul, 2008). To avoid such attacks the system should be resilient to external Trojan attacks. This paper briefly discusses the concept and evolutions of Hardware Trojans, followed by their classification and finally deals with the techniques which are available to detect and counter the actions of Hardware Trojans. Literature Review The present decade has experienced a rapid growth in the production of electronic devices. These devices have surely increased the accessibility and comfort but they are also subject to security issues. The increase in security of such electronic facility has been a necessity with the introduction of hardware circuits which tamper their behavior. "A Hardware Trojan is a malicious, undesired, intentional modification of an electronic circuit or design, resulting in the undesired behaviour of an electronic device when in operation. It is like a back–door that can be inserted into hardware – a foothold that an adversary can leverage to attack a system" [1]. A hardware Trojan is considered to be an intentional modification in the physical structure of the IC which can render the IC to be either functionless or malfunction. Such conditions can result in disastrous outcomes when it comes to applications of high level security and military usage. A hardware Trojan can either use the existing signals in an IC and corrupt or alter them, hence damaging the data and commands and in turn resulting in improper execution of the hardware.
