This short film is about a teenage girl from Manchester who is dealing with teenage pregnancy. Throughout the film, the girl talks constantly, indicating she is expressing feelings she has kept inside. She wears dull, baggy clothes that hide her changing body but cannot hide her emotional turmoil, despite her attempts to seem happy. The film provides insights into her difficult family life through scenes showing her unsupportive mother who ignores her daughter in favor of her younger sister. In the climax, the girl reveals that she was pregnant, killed the baby, and disposed of the body in a canal as her mother had advised would "make everything better."

1.
2. A short film is any film which is not long enough to be
considered a feature film. A short film is usually 40 mins or
less. Short films usually have no budget and are sponsored
by organisations and companies.
Some short films do qualify for Academy Awards if the film
is shot in Hollywood
3. Length- Less than 40 mins, this is because it gives the audience enough time to
connect with the actors.
Short films usually contain ‘twists’. This is to make the story line more interesting, as
the film is short so without the twist the short film would be very uninteresting.
Short films usually only have about 2 or 3 main characters. This is because the film is
short and there is no time to tell the history of characters, so the characters in short
films are kept to a minimum.
Short films usually have a low budget. They do this buy only shooting in one or two
locations and only using a couple of actors.
4. Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey
Toy Story of Terror
Ice Age: A Mammoth Christmas
5. It is written, edited and directed by Cameron Covell, and it starts
himself and Analisa Gutierrez. This short film released in 2012.
The sound in this short film uses a lot of upbeat and happy music
in
the background. For instance, when he sits down on the bench
and start
to become friends, the music is highlighting how they both feel.
The
short film does not really include and slow or emotional music.
6. This short film uses a wide range of Camera angles. For instance,
when
they sit on the bench, a medium shot and a long shot is used
quite
often. An example of a long shot in this short film is when he is
walking away from her. Moreover, the film includes a couple of
close
up's, to make it obvious to the reader how the characters are
feeling.
Additionally, the camera mainly focuses on the 2 main
characters of
the film, only at one point does it focus on an additional
character
(although for a very short time and blurred out).
7. This tells us that
the film is plain and simple and not complicated to
understand. At one
point in the film, while the camera is a close up of the
boy, it is a
long shot of the girl who is behind him. This aspect has
been used a
lot throughout the film.
8. This short film has been edited in a clever way.
Whenever the
characters are presented to be happy,
They are always outdoors when the weather is pleasant,
or indoors with
a lot of light, and whenever the characters are in a
negative mood,
they are always in a dull and/or lifeless place.
9. Finally, the credits for this film are right at the end. This is
because the director considered it to be an
unimportant aspect of the
film.
10. This short film is about a young teenage girl from Manchester. This short film tackles teenage
pregnancy in a very clever way. The girl is from a working class who live on the council
estate. The film starts of with the girl singing ‘Stronger’ by Britney Spears, which gives us a
slight insight as to what the girl is like, and what she may be going through (the lyrics relate to
her situation). Throughout the film, the girl is talking non stop, which indicates that she is
letting out her feelings that she has been keeping in. Moreover, the girls dull clothes tell us
how she is feeling on the inside, although she seems happy on the outside, we can tell it is an
act. We can tell that the girl is from a broken family. We see that her mum does not take
much interest in her and that she is mainly busy with her little sister. Her mum is seen to play
the lottery a lot, and then spend whatever she wins on cigarettes. This makes her feel under
appreciated, and although she does not show it we can tell.
11. The film starts of with a
sillohuete of the girl singing
‘Stronger’ by Britney Spears.
This tells us he has had a dark
past/secret which she is now
overcoming.
She is walking across the
canal talking non stop. She
is wearing an oversized
dull coat which tells us she
may be hiding something.
She is walking down the canal
on a council estate, telling the
audience about her hopes of
becoming a famous singer.
This tells us she is looking for a
better life and hoping things
get better.
Throughout the short
film she is seen holding
a plastic carrier bag.
The audience does not
know what s in this. At
this point in the short
film, she looks very
upset and seems to be
thinking about
something.
This is the end of the film. She tells us ‘I
have been real good at hiding things
since then’, then throws the
mysterious plastic bag into the canal.
Her secret is revealed. She was
pregnant, she killed the baby and
threw it into the canal, as her mum
told her it fixes everything. Earlier in
the film they're singing ‘oops I did it
again’ by Britney Spears, which fits in
with us knowing the girl has lost her
innocence, however she is still young
and naive and believes throwing the
baby in the well will fix everything.
