Hi! My name is Noi. I’m 17 years old.
I live in Bua Yai and I’m studying in Grade 11
at Bua Yai School. Bua Yai (Thai: บัวใหญ่)
is a district (amphoe) in the northern part of
Nakhon Ratchasima Province, northern central
Thailand.
History
Bua Yai dates back to the frontier town
called Dan Nok. The center of the town was
Ban Nong Lang Yai. In 1868, it was upgraded
to be Amphoe Dan Nok and the town center was
moved to Ban Nong Lang Noi. The district
office was moved again to Ban Bua Yai in 1905,
and the district was renamed accordingly.
The office was 3 km from the Bua Yai railway
junction. The presence of the railway spurred
development of the village Ban Fat Fueay
which became the new location of the district
office in 1951.
Neighboring districts are (from the north clockwise)
Waeng Noi of Khon Kaen Province,
Bua Lai, Sida, Non Daeng, Khong, Ban Lueam and
Kaeng Sanam Nang of Nakhon Ratchasima Province.
Administration
The district is subdivided into 10 subdistricts (tambon). The town
(thesaban mueang) of Bua Yai covers part of the tambon Bua Yai.

labotary, and the subject of the lesson this week is “How explosion Happen.”
2-4 p.m. SPORTS
2 p.m. Theory: Students learn about the tactics involved in a curtain sport match lasting 45 minutes.
This week, the actions from past games
3 p.m. Practice : After we have picked games, students will play a short match lasting 45 minutes. This week
the sports are rugby (for boy) and hockey (for girl).
HOMEWORK IT-The teacher will give students websites to look up at home (about 30 minutes) Drama-Students have
to part for the next lesson. (30-60 minutes) Biology/Chemistry-students have to write a short report of
the lesson (about 20 minutes)

Activity F: Reading Comprehension
Teacher’s Day in Thailand.
Teacher’s day is celebrated every year on January 16th in Thailand, it is also a school holiday. It is the
day that teachers gather together to remember their first teachers.
Thai people believe that any field of work will have a teacher such as actors, dramatists, magicians, astrologists
and even boxers. Therefore, we need to have a Wai Kru ceremony to worship or respect the teachers.
The highlights of the day include religious activities, a ceremony of paying respect to teachers and
activities to strengthen unity among teachers. Every year on this day, the Prime Minister or an important poet
will establish the motto for teachers. Here is what was chosen for this year by Prime Minister Prayut
Chan-o-cha: Teacher’s Day 2016 Motto: “The future can be bright by good and quality teachers”
There is also Wan Wai Kru/or Teachers’ Appreciation Day which is a Thai ritual in which students
pay respects to their teachers in order to express their gratitude and formalize the student–teacher relationship.
It is regularly held near the beginning of the school year in most schools in Thailand. Wai khru has long been
an important rite in the traditional martial and performing arts, as well as in astrology , Thai Massage and other
traditional arts; students and performers of Muay Thai and Krabi Krabong, as well as Thai dance and classical
music, will usually perform a wai khru ritual at their initiation as well as before performances to pay respect
and homage to both their teachers and the deities who patronize their arts.
The traditional offerings for Wai Kru represent a symbolism of student qualities, namely:
Ixora (khem, เข็ม) flowers, which while closed form pointed buds, symbolizing sharp wit,
Cynodon dactylon (ya phraek, หญ้าแพรก or Bermuda grass), the rapid growth and resilience of which
symbolize perseverance and the ability to learn, Popped rice (khao tok, ข้าวตอก), which symbolizes discipline,
and Eggplant flowers, which bow low when nearing fruiting, symbolizing respect and humility.
The ceremony is usually held shortly after the beginning of the first term, on a Thursday, as Thursday is
traditionally the day of Brihaspati, Vedic god of wisdom and teachers.
