2. What are ancillary products?
Ancillary products are different texts
and forms of the media which are
used as additional ways to promote
an artist, other than than the ‘main
one’. These go beside different
products, for example, a TV interview
of a singer is used to promote their
music
3. Digipak and Advertisement
We are going to produce two
different ancillary products, a digipak,
which is a production of the inner
and outer panels of a CD package and
an advertisement to promote the CD
album of our artist. These are going
to be promoting our new artist, of
which we have already made a music
video for as part of our project
4. What is the purpose of ancillary products?
To promote an artist, whether it’s a
new artist or a well known artist. The
production of our music video will
work alongside the production of the
ancillary products to represent the
brand and image of the artist
5. More ancillary products
In relation to the music industry, and the way artists
are promoted we, the audiences, can consume
artists’ products through different ways of
promotion; such as CDs, official music videos, live
shows, interviews, tours, official websites, social
networking websites, adverts etc…
Even though the consumption of some products is
declining, such as CDs. There are products in the
market, such as albums in electronic devices like
iTunes. This can be seen as a substitute for
consumers
6. Codes and Convention
The norms or rules of the expectation of audiences
shapes the codes and conventions of products, this
allows the media to construct texts and forms in a
way that the audience expects it
What the media form or text is and the genre of it
creates expectation of the products that the
audiences will pay for
7. Audiences
The audience plays a big role as
codes and conventions are based on
their expectations. They identify
themselves with different products.
They then enjoy the consumption of
a product by seeing how they support
or challenge their expectations
